It's gonna be really hot today. We got like a three-stage wallow right here. A seat coming down.
There's game trails beat to death coming through here. We got the downdraft in our favor
and we're set up here. I cut a couple lanes. I got a couple spots where I got good footing
right here and we're just gonna play the waiting game. It's early September. The bulls are barely
starting to bugle so we're gonna be where the bulls are coming to do that pre-rut. This is
just like whitetail season hunting those scrapes in late October. We're hunting these wallows,
these mud holes, these seeps with the heat of the day. Patience. It's gonna pay off. Always does.
Patience paid off. Came in quiet as a mouse. I was so lucky that I saw that little flash.
Literally saw a flash of yellow and I was like I know that's an elk but I couldn't see it ever
again and all of a sudden it's like right there 20 minutes later. 24 yards. All right here's the play
that happened crazy fast. So we're in here it's 12 30. I've been dead quiet dead quiet making a
couple calls every now and then and then all of a sudden we thought we heard a bugle. I pointed
that way. Clay said that way which is typical with my ears and so all of a sudden I'm like which way
and he said that way. I played gave him a little bit of something and all of a sudden I saw the
biggest five by five rack coming over that hill fast but here's here's what was up. I was literally
sitting right here had my bow ready sitting right here and I literally was right I was right here
getting ready to freaking put some coffee into this bottle and all of a sudden we heard just a
little whistle and I thought it was that way he thought it was that way but either way coffee
break didn't happen but let me show you the situation. The bull had it was he right in here
okay so the bull was right here so let's see my shot was 13 yards. The bull was coming in
right here coming this way Clay here's a wallow we found found this wallow right here and it's 93
degrees today so I'm like we're not going in for lunch screw that but we're sitting out all day
and I mean dude I was there he was somewhere well there's blood there's blood right there
there's blood right here so blood here I don't remember where he went went through this log
came here holy look at this there's a t2 look at that t2 through both ribs
and full pass through stuck in a log and he came this way where'd he go do you go right
oh well this is easy I don't know where I couldn't see this but I can definitely see that
just puddles puddles and then here see that here here here here there there what the heck
there's a whole lung not a whole lung but that's definitely a piece of a lung
and that's the biggest 5x5 I've ever shot in my life and probably the biggest I've ever seen in
my life oh my goodness wow two inches both sides brand new rx9 and look at the size of this beast
holy smokes look at the size of that tail good gosh it's been so awesome this is the first week
of September and to be honest with you it's been really hot and it's been a little bit of a
struggle I've only heard a few bugles period so I've been haven't been bugling much myself just
been doing some soft cow calls uh but back with Hoyt baby this has been an amazing year
and I was so excited to get to give a little bit of feedback on the brand new rx9 and this thing
is a tack driver for one any of you followed me and saw some of the practicing I've been doing I
think I put in about 8,000 arrows between July 6th and opening day in Alberta and this is why
right here so when things happen that fast don't think for a second I had time to think about every
single aspect of my shot process all I had time to do in that situation and that's what happens
in the rut no matter if it's if it's elk if it's whitetails when it's the rut things happen fast
and you have to go into autopilot and that was about as fast as it happened I tried to stop him
once in a clearing then I didn't want to stop him when he was behind that scrub so I had to wait
for him to hit that next clearing I gave him one other little mu and he stopped and then zippity
that freaking t2 right there is an absolute destroyer this is so simple
the blades are ridiculously sharp I mean on this big elk we got full pass through
full slice on both sides and he went down bleeding like I've maybe never seen in my life
but my goodness and also to run by and never see us sitting here brand new origin
12 yards with a bull like this are you kidding me look at these thirds dude look at the fronts
a little bitty swoop did he do die on the back right this sucker is freaking sweet
I am so pumped I am so pumped and not to mention god bless America it's 9-11 and
truth be told I shot a 5x5 on 9-11 within minutes of the first plane I was in New Mexico
DIY hunt and I'll never forget it and I'll never forget a DIY hunt I did with John Barclow and
Andy Stumpf and a giant bull came in on 9-11 it was my turn I was at full draw and when that bull
came in I looked at Andy and I said do you know it's 9-11 and he said F yeah I know it's 9-11
and I said dude this bull's yours three bulls on 9-11 and I am so thankful proud to be an American
proud to have rights to hunt proud to know where my food comes from and proud to be back with Hoyt
and Team Origin baby knock on
