In today’s video, we’re working on the main level of my new retail store. For years, I’ve run an online shop centered around a curated collection of vintage goods, so bringing that vision to life in a physical space feels incredibly exciting. We’re focusing on the cash wrap area, where customers will check out, along with the rest of the lower level as the store continues to take shape.
T H A N K Y O U Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed. Leave any future video ideas you would like to see in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe!
Previously on my channel, I announced that I'm opening a Lone Fox retail store in Los Angeles,
and I gave you the full tour of our brand new retail and warehouse space, which is two stories,
and it's going to house all of my favorite home goods from vintage to contemporary finds. And I
also started mapping out and laying out the kind of direction I was going in, and I'll link part
one in a tag above, but definitely check that out because it shared the four months of construction
work that we went to to get the store in the current space that it's in. And believe it or
not, we are opening on April 2nd, in under two weeks, and we have to get this entire store ready.
So today we're going to be working on the lower main floor of retail. We have so much to do from
painting to stocking to putting out all of our vintage furniture, hanging artwork, adding lighting,
adding all of our small goods, and I am just so, so excited for this space to come together. And
we are doing genuinely so much in today's video, so definitely stay tuned. So let me give you a
look into my mind and sort of the mood board behind this store here. So I am going for a general
store vibe, kind of like an old-timey general store. I really wanted to find fixtures and pieces
from old general stores that I can kind of piece together to create this store, and I've pulled a
lot of images that I really love. There will definitely be sections with more of an abundance
of products, sort of shelves of rows of products like this, sort of like traditional retail, but
in other areas of the store, I really want there to be a little bit more airiness and sort of like
more of a showroom layout where it might be a little bit more livable feeling and inspiring
to the eye. So a space even you can come in even if you're not shopping just to get inspired, you
know. So I really want to be able to display my furniture pieces and finds in that way, and I also
would love to have a really lovely checkout area, sort of reminiscent of almost a hotel lobby. These
are the two wallpaper samples that I have, and I was kind of leaning towards this one here, but I
actually decided for the darker one. This one's called Wood Smoke, and it's a stunning stripe. So
we are going to be doing this kind of striped wallpaper, and this is only my second time doing
real wallpaper. So let's get to wallpapering our cash wrap and turn this into an area customers
can check out. I do want to do the most design work in this space. It's going to be one area
that's not going to change as often as the other areas because I do plan on everything else kind
of changing and hopefully selling, so we can replenish with pieces from the warehouse when
those items do sell. But in this cash register area, this is a station that I don't plan on
changing as often or really changing, hopefully ever, because I'm hoping that I'm going to get
the design right the first time, and I thought wallpaper would be ideal for this space because
I like the idea of the reception area kind of feeling, again, like a boutique hotel lobby,
and that's not something that is kind of like easily or effortlessly designed. You know, those
seem to have more of a hardcore, intentionally done design, and that's what I wanted to do for
our checkout area, and I just love this striped wallpaper. I'm going to link below the proper
brand for you guys. I think it's from a brand called Mulberry Home, but I did sample it in a
few different colorways like you saw earlier and ended up settling on the wood smoke colorway.
Something else I learned along the process of wallpapering this niche here was that wallpapering
the walls and the ceiling separately are way easier than wallpapering the wall up into the
ceiling. I thought that you might be able to see the cut line or something in the corner up there
if I didn't have the panel flow from the ceiling to the wall, but that is not the case at all. I
just did all the walls first and then went back in and did the ceiling afterward. After paying for
all of the major construction that I really could not do myself, I knew I wanted to go in and save
money and do the most design work that I could myself, so that's why I'm installing the wallpaper
here. You guys know I love doing DIY, and anything I can do myself to save money, I am going to do it.
We are bringing a couple key pieces that I've been sourcing for the downstairs of the store in
at the moment. This really cool column we are going to put. I think that'll go somewhere over
here. The shop counter's been moved from upstairs to downstairs. This is so sick. I've been waiting for this moment.
Look at this freaking look. Are you kidding me right now? Why does it look like it's giving hotel reception?
It's giving a hotel reception desk. In the best way though, like in the best way.
Oh, you guys got tapes to hedge. Yeah, definitely like right there, something like that.
I sourced this really stunning 19th century tapestry that I was actually going to sell in the
store, and then when I saw it mixed with the wallpaper and wood tones of the counter, and like
even do you see like the purple painted baseboard on the counter? Just like the little tones in the
space make me so happy. I knew this had to live here. I want to give a huge shout out to Two Pages
for all of the curtains in the store. They were so kind and actually sent these over when they
heard that I was opening a retail store. They're the sweetest, and I actually have only Two Pages
curtains in my entire home. They are fully cut and sewn to size, and they get to you so quick.
These are the Liz curtains, and they are truly unbelievable. You guys, like if you're in the
market for curtain panels, I always always suggest Two Pages. Oh my gosh, this pink kind of smells good.
Popping directly to the left of our checkout station, this is the other sort of niche, and this
is what I'm calling our seasonal niche, and I love this because it's one that we could repaint each
season, or when we want to maybe have a collection come out, or we can repaint this and give the store
a full fresh new look without having to repaint the entire store. So this color here that I'm
actually using is Oval Room Blue by Farrow & Ball, and this has been a color I've been wanting to use
for so long. I just love how it's a blue that's not too in-your-face, but it still screams blue
at the same time. You know, it's not too light, it's not too dark, it's just the perfect shade of
a kind of medium-toned sky blue. And on the rest of the walls in the downstairs, it is actually
Slipper Satin by Farrow & Ball, which is kind of like a creamy off-white, and it's the perfect base
for our furniture and kind of all the other things that I wanted to add. As you can see, this niche
here, kind of the darkness and depth of it, really stands out with the lightness that we have for the
Slipper Satin that surrounds the rest of the space. So I ended up hanging up a light fixture in here,
and it just feels so much like a little boutique hotel lobby, and then I popped on the countertop
actually this fireplace screen. If you've been watching my channel for a while, you might have
seen this in my living room makeover. This is a fireplace screen, and I'm going to use it to cover
our POS system, and I think it's just such a cool idea. I think we're going to have a bronze logo
made for the front of the fireplace screen, and then try to get that burn mark off at the bottom.
But then over on the right side, I popped on top our little paper roll holder, which is actually
from the late 1800s, believe it or not, and it holds some craft paper that we can package up some
breakables in. You didn't have any, you didn't have any baskets? Ann, no, and ask if I could,
if they could hold it for me. Oh, let me hold these behind the counter for you. I don't know.
Oh, it's working. Let's see. Hey, why are you on the counter? Get off the counter, you're a customer.
No, I was looking, I was looking to make sure you weren't over-targeted. That's very discreet, yeah.
Oh, that rang up too expensive. That one's supposed to be $47. No, it's $52. Okay.
I love those pictures. Isn't it so chic? It's giving anthropology. Oh, I forgot something.
We have a thief! Get out of here! I thought you were stealing.
If you recall in episode one, I shared with you guys some of the store fixtures that I ended up
buying, this one being a 1800s general store cabinet with these glass doors on the front,
and this is going to be one of our primary display pieces. There are only like four items
in the entire shop, which are kind of larger furniture pieces that are actually not for sale,
that we are going to be keeping as display pieces, this being one of them, and I adore this
piece. It's a dark, dark wood piece, and the trim work on it is just stunning. It has storage in the
bottom, but this is going to be our glassware cabinet, because we do have a bunch of different
household goods that you can purchase for dining, entertaining, kitchen, your home,
decoration, whatever it might be. We have things truly for every facet of life, and I love unique
glassware, so I wanted to be able to offer a vast array of just different styles of glassware. A lot
of this is actually hand-blown in France by a company called La Soufflerie. It is beautiful,
and we also have some of our pewter pieces over here, and the lights at the top really inspired
me to add lights throughout, which we're going to do later. Alrighty guys, it is furniture move-in
time. I just booked some movers to come and help us move some of our furniture from the warehouse
down to the retail space, which I have been waiting to do. This is so exciting. Like, we've
already put out a bunch of pieces. Things are in wrappers, as you can see, and it's honestly time
to start having fun in here, playing around with layout, orientation, putting down some rugs, some
furniture. I have some incredible sofas and pieces I've been saving to style this store, because
we're going to be shooting photos of the store shortly, um, in about a week and a half, which is
crazy to say, because I feel like it is nowhere near being done, but that's the nature of how I
do things. So we're going to bring the furniture down. Once that is in place, I really think though
it's going to shape everything and kind of give a little bit more of a direction for what needs
to be finished, what I need to work on. Here's some chairs, a little side table, some little
chair moments over here happening. They just kind of dropped these off, um, and a couch right over
here, and this is like the base of a really cool cabinet. Yeah, that's great. Thank you.
That one's just going here. You want it all the way? Just like, just like right there.
Oh, this is really chic. You guys, this is good. Look how cute, look how great this looks on top
of the rug. The rug like makes it pop into the pool, and with these like cute little chairs,
they even have like a blue tint to them. This is actually so cool to see how much progress we've
made, but if you recall back to the first day I got the keys to my store, I actually did a little
walkthrough, and in my first episode I shared with you guys kind of a map out of where I was
thinking we can have our display cabinet, our shelves under the window, maybe a seating area,
maybe a checkout counter, and over the last six months we have done so much to transform this
space from this to this, which is so exciting to see while moving in furniture. Like that little
transition when I was editing was so satisfying to create. I had no idea I was even filming in
kind of like the same direction, but this here is going to be our first vignette, and I basically
want to create these different vignettes so that we're able to showcase our chairs, and our coffee
tables, and our sofas, which are all vintage and one-of-a-kind, and also reimagine. Like a lot of
these pieces I actually have reupholstered and redone in fabrics that I love, but that's only
when their original fabric isn't perfect. Like these Dutch ochre chairs here, these are from the
1940s, and original mohair with channeled sides. They are so, so gorgeous. These are ones that I
would never reupholster. You can even see on the bottom side like the construction of those. I
actually had these ones in the back though redone in a cream chenille with like a black piping, and
these ones here are some 1940s Swedish chairs. I had them redone in a zebra just for like a fun
pop of pattern, and I adore these ones. The silhouette with the wood bottom is just to die
for. But as I've been kind of sharing this series over on my Instagram and TikTok, a lot of people
have been wondering, what am I actually selling in this store? And the funny thing is that every
single thing that you see is for sale. All the furniture's for sale, all of the accessories, the
decor, the glassware. The only things kind of not for sale are like the checkout counter and our
display pieces. That's really all. But I wanted to create these vignettes that way in case a set of
chairs sold, or a sofa sold, or an armoire sold, we can just swap them back into the spot that there
was one before without having to really rearrange the entire store. So I thought starting with this
sort of vignette style would be nice as a starting point. I've never owned or operated a retail store
before, so this is all brand new. And by the way guys, if you are in the market in Los Angeles and
you are looking for a part-time or full-time job, I'm going to link below our job posting because I
just actually added it on LinkedIn. If you're curious, we are hiring for part-time and full-time
sales associates in Lone Fox Los Angeles since we are opening very, very soon. And on the opposite
side of our first floor of retail, I wanted to create another seating area. I really wanted there
to be a lot of furniture showcased when you first walk in because in our green room up the little
stairs, that's going to be a lot of smaller goods and smaller items. And then upstairs, we're also
going to have a lot of furniture as well. So I actually am using rugs to sort of create different
zones. So you can see here, this rug, it just sort of tightens up the sitting area and creates a zone
or a vignette that we can then add to or take away from as things potentially sell or they don't.
These sofas here are beyond stunning. They are mohair and I just love them. Even this table, it's
so, so cool. It's like a oversized Dutch dining table. And so I added a rug under that. This is in our
blue niche or our seasonal niche that we could change up every now and then.
I do have a few showstoppers in the store, I gotta say. This Pavotainel chandelier is
absolutely incredible. It's from the 1940s from New York and it's solid brass with these glass
shades. It's just unbelievable. I have no words for it. And since we have a lot of artwork, I actually
had picture rails installed around the entire upper edge of both floors of retail. That way,
we could hang our artwork from picture hanging hooks. But in this little blue niche, since it is
a space that I'm planning on repainting every now and then, I figured we can also just use
nails and screws in this wall because we're going to have to do some patchwork when we go to paint
anyways. So I'm creating a little gallery wall of some of our vintage artwork and all of the artwork
that we have in store is also online. So if you are curious, art is like one of our best categories.
I have to say, we have such a vast array of really unique vintage oil paintings and one-of-a-kind
artwork pieces. So if you're in the market for that, definitely check out the website. And as
I'm hanging up more of these, I can tell that some of these have already sold. So our artwork tends
to go rather quickly on the site. So definitely check it out. If you see anything of interest here,
pop over and take a look. And then over to the right side, I hung a mirror. I wanted to have a
few kind of like more sturdy areas to hang mirrors or heavier objects. And I thought this wall here
was such a focal area to hang a mirror like this. I was wanting to potentially replace a bathroom
door with a vintage or antique door from a architectural salvage spot, but I just haven't
gotten around to looking for one yet. So for the time being, I'm actually going to be painting it
a color called French Gray by Farrow & Ball. It was one of the colors that I was opting for
for our little niche, but then I did it the over and blue. And on our front door, I'm using
Etruscan Red. I believe that's how you say it, Etruscan or Etruscan Red by Farrow & Ball. And it
is kind of like a burnt orange red. It has like a bit of a faded look to it, like a terracotta feel,
but it is a beautiful red tone overall. That large shelving unit in the back, I actually found on
Facebook Marketplace and I figured it'd be perfect for our pillows because I actually am doing a full
range of custom pillows that I had our seamstress sew for us. And I am so excited for you guys to
see these because they have custom edges on them. We're going to have little lone fox tags on them.
They are so cute. These are not them. These are actually some shearling pillows that we're going
to be offering in the store. And those throw blankets that I hung up on the wall are actually
made from recycled water bottles. They're so soft. We have them on the site right now currently.
And I also popped on a few decorative options, but these are some of our pillows. As you can see,
I'm adding them in. This one is kind of a green mohair, and then we have a pink mohair with a
braided edge on it. And I just adore the different pillow options that I was able to create. And
these are not online yet. I'm hoping to have them online in the future, but for the time being,
these are going to be an in-store exclusive sort of option. So the custom pillows, I'm super excited
about those. And I did, I think like 10 different styles. There's chocolate brown on the bottom left,
and then this one on the right is probably one of my favorites. It's like a ditzy little floral
with embroidery on it. It's going to be so much fun experimenting with new patterns, new styles,
maybe even doing the front side of the pillow, one fabric in the backside, a different fabric.
So I think we're going to have a lot of fun playing around with different versions of pillows for the
shop. I didn't really have a rhyme or reason when it came to styling this blue niche that we painted.
I just wanted to really use up a lot of the wall space in there. So I hung this large piece of
artwork over the top of this sideboard here. And I also added on top of it, a piece of furniture,
a lamp, some books, and just a few styling accessories that we are going to be selling
in the store. I love how our under the window shelves turned out. These are so nice because
they're large. So we can have a bunch of products under here, pillows, stools, blankets. I even have
rugs under the bottom right one, like some folded up vintage rugs. So it's just ideal to style and
use products. And here's like the great clip where you can actually see a little bit more of the store.
I was realizing I was focusing so much in on different vignettes. You couldn't really see the
full picture. I find little details like these baskets here, the cutest touch to retail. Like
there's things that add so much just joy and just like that fun experience. And these are custom
baskets that we had done for the shop. I couldn't find anything that would work that would actually
look kind of like a basket that you could stack that had handles that was durable, but still like
not overwhelming, not super heavy. And I found the perfect basket. So this is it. When you walk
in the store, you can literally, the doors right here, right to your left, there's going to be some
baskets if you wanted to grab one. But then also in our little green room area up here in the den,
we're going to have baskets there too, because there's lots of smaller goods there. And I feel
like you might start grabbing things and then you want a basket to put everything in. But currently
where I'm standing is on the opposite side of the store where the cash register is and the china
cabinet with all the glassware. So this is the complete other side of the lower level. And I
wanted to give a big shout out to Houseplant because they supplied us with some incredible,
incredible plants in here. And the really cool thing about Houseplant is they're only like a
mile away from me in terms of location. And I just asked them if they had any plants that maybe we
can put in the shop that then they can come and pick up if they needed to, or you guys could even
purchase if you're interested in. So we have some plants that they placed around the store, which
adds so much life to the space. Never heard of Houseplant. I'll leave their information up here.
They do a bunch of custom installs. They have incredible plants and pots and all the different
things. Like this is their pot here as well. I love the little bit of color that it adds to the
space. And I also popped in this big secretary hutch here. Definitely want to keep a few walls
in the store, kind of like available for larger pieces of furniture. So I wanted to map this area
out for one. Over there by the bathroom, we have the kind of pine one with the cross top, which is
gorgeous. And everything in this video, if you saw anything that you guys liked, check out the website.
Every single thing in the store is for sale, if you're curious. And one of the last sections I
wanted to share with you guys was one of our window displays. And it was so sunny today, but
you can sort of see the reflection of one of our awnings. I had custom awnings added to the outside,
and I just kind of styled the window with some of our vintage pieces, a chandelier, and also a piece
of art, which were able to hang from the inside. And I love how this looks. And that, my friends, is
everything I'm going to share with you in today's video. I don't want to give a reveal quite yet,
because we are still working on our green den space and the entire upstairs. So make sure to
subscribe so you can see those spaces. And then I'm going to give you a full entire walkthrough
tour of the store before it opens on April 2nd. So make sure to mark your calendars. More information
will be coming very, very soon. And I am so excited for the opening of Lone Fox Los Angeles.
