So there's a way of jumping on the car to which Jack will explain to you,
because some of the panels are quite delicate.
Yeah everything's pretty soft, I mean most drivers when they get in sit their right foot there
and then you can either get your left foot up on here and sort of like balance on there
or just jump straight in.
So I mean that's solid.
Can you just wide leg it?
No I'm just...
No? Really?
No?
So pop in?
Is it ok if I get on the other side?
I'm superstitious that way.
I really am.
This looks mean doesn't it?
So mean.
I really can't do that.
He said no no no.
So I'm stepping here?
Stepping on the back?
Yes.
A little more shoulder, a little more leg room, I'm good.
Yeah it actually feels really good.
What do the pedals feel like at the moment?
A little shallow.
So too far away from you?
No, if I could get a little more distance.
You want to get them a bit further away from you?
I get a few perks with my job,
but this is the high.
This is the all time Everest.
Just tight in here.
Is that just because of the excess on the foot?
Just squeezing it.
In the shoulder.
What's your thoughts Brad?
Don't cock it up.
I'm afraid to touch it.
That's alright.
I'm not doing anything that's going to upset the apple cart.
Still his seat?
Eventually.
Just come off?
Yeah.
Today is exactly as it would be for Lando and Oscar.
So we're running the same car model,
all the motion is exactly as they would have.
So he wants to give you the full experience.
We've got the radio,
so you can talk to us.
That's the green up and down button.
There's a blue light that shows up when you're on,
and it disappears when you're off.
There's the N for the neutral button.
So from first gear,
if you want to go into neutral when you stop,
you press that button.
And then we've got the C button.
This is a button you use a lot at the track.
It's called recharge, so charging.
And to do that charging, we need to do a slow lap.
And that's something you'll have to do in Austin,
and we're going to practice today in the simulator.
Clutch in, first gear, a bit of throttle,
and then slowly release the clutch.
And I'm good to go?
Oh, man.
Wow. Oh, it feels so strange.
Yeah, bear with me.
It's going to take me a minute.
Very first lap, I'm going to need to do some radio checks.
Always toggle on, toggle off.
Exactly, yeah. If you leave it on...
You're yelling.
I'm asking politely.
You hear me going...
Fast, safe, careful, don't crash.
Did you get some sleep?
I got six, which I was pretty happy with.
But then after that, it was just every 15 minutes,
it's the time, it's the time.
It's the time, it's the time.
For the next two hours.
Full respect for having gone through with it and getting in it.
Yeah, got to.
For some reason,
Zach Brown and everyone at McLaren
has decided to
let me get in the
23 F1 car of Lando's.
And so, here we are.
How am I feeling right now?
Off my head,
giddy.
A little bit intimidated.
Trying to put that in its proper place.
And I'd like
to get in and get going.
That'll sit there when I'm driving.
Yeah, that's perfect.
Yeah, so it just sits literally on the corner of your mouth.
Okay, Brad.
And we can go recharge off to open the lap.
Recharge off.
Recharge off. Yep, that's good.
And you're good to open the lap.
All looking good out there, Brad.
BP pit lane.
Okay, Brad, how was that?
Final thoughts?
What a rush, what a rush.
Unforgettable.
397.
Oh!
Three miles short.
I mean, unforgettable.
A high of a lifetime.
Big thanks to Zach Brown,
everyone at McLaren, the team,
everyone back at headquarters,
everyone here who got me in the seat.
And, uh, wow.
Wow. What an experience, really.
One other thing to Zach.
Work on your acting, bud. We'll talk.
