And if you're new here hello and welcome
My name is Steffi I'm a native German speaker originally from Berlin
And I'll help you learn German
German has never been this easy
You're exactly in the right place if you already understand a bit of German
but you can't speak it quite as well yet
And we're jumping straight into idiom number 1
To be at a loss
Being on the wrong track means not understanding something For example if
someone tries to explain the rules of a new but very complicated game to me
Then I say wait a minute I'm completely lost right
now I don't get it Can you explain it to me again
Number 2 Having a pig means having luck
Imagine we're both running toward the train right now but the door is slowly closing
But we'll jump in quickly
Then I'll turn to you and say we really got lucky here
Before moving on to number 3 don't forget to drink water
Number 3 To beat around the bush
The definition is to not say directly what is meant
He keeps talking and talking and talking and talking
Just say what you want to say Don't beat around the bush
Number 4 Tomatoes on the eyes
Not seeing something right in front of you
If I ask you where is my glass
Then you can reply the glass is on the table
Do you have tomatoes on your eyes

Tired of it
Fed up
Annoyed
That's enough I'm fed up For example
I was fed up with this long winter
At first it was still beautiful but after
several weeks of snow
I'd had enough Spring where are you Sending someone good vibes
That's an extremely popular expression
It means wishing someone good luck
For example if a friend or partner has an exam or a job interview
Then you can say I'm rooting for you
I wish you luck
You've got this
To have a long line
It's something I'm only just
beginning to understand Sorry I've had
a long call today I don't get it
Could you please explain it again
That's not my problem
That's not my concern
For example maybe you're familiar with it
When two people argue
in a relationship it's none of my business
That's not my problem Your relationship issues aren't my concern
Let the cat out of the bag Exactly it simply means understanding
a secret For example when something
no longer needs to remain a secret
Then I say come on I'll let
the cat out of the bag I
got the job There's another very similar expression
but it carries a completely different meaning
To buy a cat in a sack
This means to purchase something without properly checking it first
I won't sign a contract without
reading it properly I don't
want to buy a cat in a bag I'll face the sour apple head-on
Accepting something unpleasant When I have to do something
I absolutely don't feel like doing
Then I'll bite the bullet and do it anyway
Another useful idiom
making you sound much more natural in German the phrase is "die
Fliege machen " "Die Fliege machen"
means to leave quickly or disappear
For example if I feel tired at a party and want to go home
Then I say like I'm making the fly
Speaking of flies

That means achieving two goals with a single action
Not bad
I used to always ride my bike to university
Why Because I come to campus and work out
I'm killing two birds with one stone Keeping an eye on something
That simply means thinking about
something paying attention to it
Also don't forget Thanks for
the reminder I had completely
lost track of that I'd
forgotten all
about it Number 15
To be thick-headed
To fail to understand something obvious or very simple
The solution was quite straightforward
I just had a complete mental block In situations
like that I'd rather bury my head in the sand
Also just ignore something or a problem altogether
But please listen to me
This is important
You can't solve your
problems if you keep your head in the
sand Believe me I've tried It doesn't work
