New Zealand has some of the best gold I've seen,
so this year, we are back to find more.
Hi, we are back in New Zealand
at my favorite place to look for gold,
and that's because over the years,
we have found a lot of gold here.
I won't say how much, but enough to keep coming back.
Oh, and I brought my twin sister, Lana, here
because she is good luck, and of course, Reese,
because we don't have a ride.
All right, Lana's certain she's gonna find some gold today.
So I found a ton of gold,
sniping and detecting this whole creek here,
and every year when I come here,
we always seem to do well.
Knock on wood.
I'm not gonna waste too much time talking.
I'm just gonna turn on the detector,
go for a walk, see what I can hear,
and then probably get in my wetsuit and go for a snipe.
So we have our first target.
We know it's gold.
I haven't seen it yet, but yeah.
So 100%, this will be gold.
There is no reason for, that target was trash.
All right, got a nice signal on this little ledge here.
All right, all right, all right, all right, all right.
Have my flash on.
Hopefully, it's a huge nugget.
It's probably gonna be really small
because my detector is super sensitive.
There it is.
Right there, a little piece of gold.
Not super big, but still pretty good.
This way, it's tiny.
So we're not skunked today.
Let's see if there's anything else in there.
There's still something else in there.
Probably really small.
Oh, and over here.
All right, two more.
I see it, but I just don't wanna move the camera.
Right there.
Sweet.
Another one.
That was easy.
Three pieces off the bat.
Four.
Really small guy right there.
So the gold I'm finding here has been small and thin,
so I have to keep busting the fractured bedrock open
to try to pull everything out.
Number five, right there.
All right, one, two, three, four, five,
and there's still a target in here somewhere,
so I'm gonna dig all this out and hopefully find more.
So I was just about to use this big bar here to flip that,
and you guys see that little piece of gold right there.
I'll have to suck it up, though.
We just got here, so far, six pieces of gold.
Isn't it shiny?
All right.
We found five pieces of gold, I guess.
The same process continues.
Even if you don't hear something with the metal detector,
if I notice fractures in the bedrock,
I break it open because a piece of gold
could easily just be out of range
for the detector to pick up.
Put your back into it.
So we do have another piece of gold right here,
but it's been taking me way too long to find it,
so I decided to leave it and come back later.
You find that?
You find anything?
Well, when I empty my snuffer,
we'll see if it's an orange rock or gold.
Yeah.
She found a piece of gold and she yelled at me
and she sucked it up,
but it actually might not be gold, who knows yet.
So I brought my entire wetsuit down,
but I just don't see a need to use it.
So all I'm using is this pick tool,
my mask so I can see under the water,
flashlight, and then my snuffer bottle.
All right, it's been another 25 minutes.
I walked up this creek, didn't see anything.
I did fall pretty hard, which hurt my elbow, which sucked,
but we're still alive.
So Lana is working this little crevice area here.
We're just having a little listen, don't hear anything.
I went up here.
We have a deep signal in there, so yeah.
Do you want to like pull some of that gravel down?
There's usually never trash here,
so hopefully this will be gold.
Trash.
It could have been a big nugget, but it's not.
So after walking around sort of aimlessly,
I finally found another signal.
I got a really nice, loud signal.
I'm really hoping it's gold
because it could be pretty good,
but now that we know that there is trash here,
it could also be trash.
Have a listen.
Could be good.
Now I'm really hoping I don't have to dig
all this stuff out of the way
because that'll take up more time.
There's like one rock at a time here.
There's a bit of a crack here too,
so it could be right in there.
And if it's not gold, I may not even see it
because I'll be looking for yellow.
Where are you, target?
All right, that last target was a nail.
But now we have another target that I'm 99% sure is gold.
Now the problem is the gold I'm finding today
is just so small.
I love having a sensitive metal detector
so I can find gold,
but any more sensitive,
I honestly just don't see the point.
If it takes you more than two minutes
to find a piece this size,
you're wasting your time.
All right, I moved it from here to here.
So hopefully it's gonna be easier to see whatever it is.
It's gotta be gold, though.
I don't see why it won't be gold.
Well, now it's blanking out,
so it's louder than it was.
It's gotta be right in that little edge.
If this doesn't find it,
I'm calling the big guns, Lana.
I finally found it.
It's huge!
Right there.
Oh my God.
That's the size for how loud it was.
What a big waste of time.
So I just switched to GoPro to save battery on my phone,
and I got in my wetsuit because the sand flies are awful
and this just protects me more.
So what I'm trying to do
is move all this stuff out of the way,
then follow this main little channel of water
and see if there's anything underneath it.
Most of the time, there won't be anything,
but there is a good chance there could be stuff here, so.
I don't know where Lana is,
but she's somewhere down there.
So for me to do the thing with this stuff,
I have to move all the overburden out of the way.
I thought I'd metal detect first
before bringing more material down,
just in case there's a piece of gold and I bury it.
I might just ruin it for myself
because I'm not sure if I can move.
I'm slowly making progress.
Just found this guy on bedrock.
Tiny, but it's gold, baby.
I haven't been finding anything except for gold.
We've got another one right here.
Yeah, really, really small.
Annoying piece of gold, though.
I decided to jump in and get some sniping done.
I found a little bit of gold,
but nothing really worth turning the camera on for.
But whether we find gold or not,
we're having fun and meeting some cool people along the way.
So it's been another hour.
Ended up finding one more little piece of gold
way upstream, but I think we're gonna call it a day.
So I'm gonna swap cameras here,
show you a little bit closer,
then when we get back to the house, we'll weigh it.
All right, dumped out the old snuffer.
This is what we got.
Lots of little pickers for the day, so I can't complain.
I think all this together is probably gonna be
about 10 ounces, so not bad.
Now I'm gonna go back to the house.
We're gonna weigh our gold
and hopefully I found more than Lana.
She actually found a decent piece, though.
She might've beat me.
Okay, the final reveal.
Did I find gold?
Did I find a orange colored rock?
Did I find a yellow?
I did find gold.
Look at that.
Sorry, my camera work is not as good as Paul's.
Look at that.
So we went to the house and forgot to weigh the gold,
but the following day we went to a new creek
to try to find some more gold, but I didn't film anything.
It was Lana who recorded this day,
so these are her stories.
So I found this little slab of bedrock,
so I started kind of chiseling away at it there.
And, okay, can't even see it on camera.
Right there is a piece of gold, right there.
Okay, okay, I was paying attention to this little spot
where I saw a sparkle,
but then I looked at this piece of rock
and I don't know if you can, you probably can't see,
it is literally just covered in sparkly gold bits,
like this whole section.
So I'm literally gonna scoop all of this and pan it out.
Well, Paul burst my bubble
and it's just a bunch of pyrite, so.
Yay me!
So Paul, against my advice, didn't want to film today,
so I thought I'd do it for him.
It's fun to watch him work.
I mean, that's why I came on this trip.
He just zones out at the rocks
and somehow pulls out pieces of gold.
That's cool.
Small.
And of course, when I try to find gold, he disappears.
Next, we met another miner
who was metal detecting in the mud
and every time he would get a signal,
Paul and I would find it with the gold pan.
There was a lot of gold here.
You didn't really need to metal detect at all.
Was this just a random scoop or a target?
A target.
Two.
Ooh.
Okay, hold on, let me see.
Four, yeah.
Oh, there's a couple more here, hey.
Oh, there's a better one here.
Nice hit.
Now you don't.
So what we're doing today,
we're moving rock and panning the water
to find some gold, mate.
Sounded like a decent signal, so we'll see.
Hurry up.
Hmm?
Hurry up.
Oh, right there.
In the corner.
Good sign, there could be gold around.
Oh, let's do the foil reveal.
Oh yeah?
Wow.
Nice pan of gold.
That's a good scoop.
Yeah.
After a few more hours of this,
this new friend of ours let us keep the gold
and we headed out.
And by we, I mean me.
Shiny.
So here's the gold that we found panning
and detecting today and Paul is getting none of it.
He has enough already.
All right, we're back.
In Canada.
Before I weigh the gold,
I just gotta say that I had to leave New Zealand
to handle some family business,
which really does suck.
But I do plan on going back there
and finishing the adventure.
I just don't know when.
Yeah, so we'll see.
But for now, let's just weigh the gold
and hope that they grow overnight.
So here's the gold that I found this trip.
That does not compare to what I have found in the past.
Now they do say that comparison is a thief of joy
and in this case, it is correct.
There's some chunky bits in here,
but nothing I would call a nugget.
And as for the other gold that we found
when Lana was filming,
she's keeping the gold and won't give it to me.
So I can't weigh the gold.
So maybe it would have been 13 ounces.
Who knows?
All in all, I think this justifies another trip out.
I just don't know when.
So let's weigh all this shiny gold.
I'm gonna definitely get some on the table.
As expected.
All right, what are your guesses?
2.32 grams.
Almost 13 ounces, but not quite.
Now, what would you do with this gold?
Sell it or keep it?
