Halloween morning. First sit in the morning in the timber and uh pretty good conditions today.
It's cold, it's like 40 degrees. Supposed to stay pretty cold all day but windy. I haven't seen any
deer yet but I'm down in the bottom where I hung this new set two days ago. We might try to sit
all day. We're at least gonna sit till 11-ish and uh might get down, might come back, might go to
another stand. I don't know. Just depends on what we see today but really good conditions today.
Really good conditions tomorrow. So hoping we get a buck cruising around down on this bottom.
Got a really good active vine scrape at 28 yards. Tons of rubs down here. Trails, pinch. There's a
good size creek too. It just, they all pinch down right here. Didn't realize my camera's falling.
So we shall see. Oh it's November 1st and a banger of a first morning for November.
36 degrees. Switched up to pretty much a dead west wind today so I was able to
come sit on the east side of the property. I haven't sit here for a while since I passed
that 12 pointer. I can hear deer walking around me for like 10 minutes now and I can't see them
or it's a giant squirrel one or the other. But right when I got up in the stand I saw like a
three-year-old 10 point through the pinos out in this field and I saw a doe so they're moving this
morning. We're doing an all-day sit for sure staying in this tree the entire day because they bed
all around here. So November 1, kicking it off strong. I have high hopes for today. I saw that guy up
on the ridge. He was just cruising looking for does. I hit him with two soft grunts just to see
if he'd come in. He came in, stood out here, looked around, didn't see anything and just didn't like it.
It's 11 o'clock so they're still, they're still running around a little bit. That buck just came
by, it grunted probably 20 times in 50 yards right there. Just brark, brark, brark. Just a two-year-old
but that's awesome. They're cruising up in the tree this morning. It's 25 degrees. It is cold.
Everything's frosted over. I hear something in the corn. It's so calm I can hear everything.
I can hear deer running or rustling through the corn.
So this is the type of morning where you just hit the horns together and something comes in.
Gonna wait about 15 more minutes let it get more light but I'm really pumped about today. Deer should
be moving pretty good. That awesome 10 point, the horns, made a bunch of scrapes. Made probably like
four scrapes rubbed on a little tree right there. Just a stud of a three-year-old. We got that guy
on camera a lot. Awesome buck, awesome encounter. They're fired up this morning.
Well we're back up in the tree. It's like three o'clock right now. I had to get down at about
10 30. I had a couple calls I had to make and then Caitlin got stuck so I had to go pull her out.
So we're back. I wanted to do an all-day sit that just did not happen though. So talking to him for
the afternoon. Hopefully we got some live action and hopefully I didn't miss anything while I was
gone. We'll see. It's still pretty cold. Conditions are right. November 2nd. Nothing like the rut in Iowa.
Up in the tree this morning. It's November 3rd. Back down in the timber and it was a long walk
back here and I don't know what I was thinking but I wore all of my clothes in here and I'm
I was sweating and now I'm getting really cold. So shouldn't have done that. I just didn't want to
carry them but it's so cold. My pants are all frozen and crisp from all the dew. We're gonna sit
back. Might sit all day. Might move stands. We're just gonna see what the wind does because down in
this bottom it gets real swirly. Just a really good pinch down here. Fields on both sides.
Lots of rubs. But we're gonna sit tight and see what happens. Probably rattle here in a minute.
It's midday now. I just spent like the last hour. Checked that trail camera. That big knot I passed
was on it I think yesterday. Twice. With a couple little barks and whatnot. Good action.
Not tried. I moved my platform up about another four feet. I'm way up here but I was just so
nervous because I'm down in the bottom. I'm nervous about swirling winds. I'm nervous about
the deer on the hill seeing me. So I'm way up here. Like I can see really good. The only problem is
it's one of these main trails is literally like 10 yards away. So potentially one of my shots is
going to be like right on top of it. But I have awesome cover. Like I got this big tree. This big
tree right here. Tons of brush around me. So I'm not really worried about that. While I was sitting
here I just heard a gnarly grunt. Twice. Probably 60 to 100 yards over there. Probably five minutes ago.
So I'm gonna grunt and then rattle and see if whatever that was comes over. It was pretty gnarly though.
