Hello there!
Welcome back to my channel.
I'm Silcuriace and this is Story by Silcuriace.
Today I'm gonna talk about Meghan Markle and her speech on the Invictus Games 2023.
It just happened and I noticed a couple of things that I'd like to mention to you.

We know that Meghan Markle is not loved by everyone and I'm not here to talk about how
likable she is, because mainly I hate that concept of being likable, or how good she
is, or how right she did in her speech.
I think she could have done better, yes, but that's not the point.
The point is to just bring to you a couple of things that she did with her body language
that pass on a message to the audience.
Everything that you do with your body when you're on stage is part of the way you communicate
with people.
So it's not enough to have a good talk, to have a very entertaining and interesting content,
and to speak well.
You also need to pay attention to your posture, to the way you move your body, to how you
look at people.
You can see some of my videos here with some tips on that, but sometimes it's just easier
for us to make comments on what some celebrities are doing on stage.
So take a good look at this picture.
It's not high quality, this is a screenshot from a cell phone video, probably from the
Mirror tabloid in the UK, but what matters is that you can see Meghan Markle crossing
her legs while touching Harry.
What happened in that scene is that she was just called on stage.
As she walks in, she says hello everyone, she greets the audience, and she immediately
comes closer to Harry, as if she was not feeling very safe.
It was almost like for protection.
Why did I assume it was for protection?
Because she's already a famous woman.
She was a celebrity before Harry, and she continues to be a celebrity, liked or not.
So she wouldn't need to touch her husband or to be closer to a higher figure if she
didn't want to.
It felt to me that she kind of needed that comfort.
Plus, the other main sign that she was feeling uncomfortable comes from her legs.
Look at her legs again.
They are crossed.
When you're crossing your legs on stage, you cannot move, right?
You're gonna be stuck.
Not only gonna be stuck in that very spot, you will also look smaller.
Your legs are occupying less space than if they were set in parallel.
So you're kind of crunching, touching your husband and crossing your legs.
I bet most of you are not bringing your husbands and wives and spouses to the stage with you,
but if that happened, try to keep them there while you're here doing your job.
That's the first tip.
The second tip, which is something that you can do for yourself, is do not cross your
legs while you're speaking.
It's one thing to kind of cross your legs to feel more comfortable while you're waiting
to speak.
Maybe someone else is speaking.
Maybe your partner is speaking, and then you're waiting and you want to feel more comfortable.
You're in high heels or whatever.
You can do that.
Not ideal, but you can.
While you're talking, you shouldn't.
Then she kind of releases her husband, but she keeps her legs crossed.
She was still feeling uncomfortable.
A few seconds later, or maybe a minute or so, she releases her legs, and we see her
with the posture that she should have had from the beginning.
She's standing strong, parallel legs, arms relaxed, holding the mic.
That's how we want to see a woman on stage.
A man, too.
But I love to say that's how we want to see women on stage because sometimes we feel more
uncomfortable for several reasons that we can address in other videos.
So the funny thing about these two postures is that they happened while she was talking
about something very specific.
The wrong posture with the crossed legs happened when she was talking about herself.
She was kind of apologizing for being late and talking about her personal life.
The second time when her posture was perfect, she was talking about what matters, about
the audience, about the vets, about the event itself.
That proves something I talk about a lot.
Women feel uncomfortable when they're talking about themselves.
It was very clear to see her body closing up and shutting down when she was talking
about herself.
And she's a celebrity.
She should be used to that.
That validates a lot of us who feel uncomfortable to this day, even after media training, even
after speaking on several stages and leading meetings, whatever.
So it is normal, but we need to take care of this.
That's not how we want to be portrayed.
That's why training is so important.
That's why getting a presentation coach is so important.
So again, never do this.
Do not cross your legs.
Stand up strong, arms relaxed, and you're going to give a great impression to the audience.
