So much.
I have a little bit of energy right now,
because today, a tiny bit too much coffee.
Just a little bit.
And I like it.
Usually, you know, there's a thing before the coffee.
How many coffee drinkers in the audience here?
People do not drink coffee.
Do you hear the difference in energy?
Do you hear it?
Coffee drinkers know that before the coffee,
there's a certain kind of energy.
And then coffee, good energy.
A little more coffee, really perfect.
And then you overdo it, and you're like, oh, too much.
Too much.
Coffee, I love coffee myself.
And do you know how coffee was discovered?
Anyone?
Neither do I.
No, I do know.
I looked into this, because I don't
like to bring up a question and not have an answer for it.
It was discovered in the ninth century.
It was a goat shepherd.
And he was out in the fields.
True story, don't laugh yet.
True story, a goat shepherd.
And the goats were eating these berries.
And they were dancing around and a lot of energy and everything.
And he thought, well, that's something
I should make a juice out of.
So he took the berries, made the juice, and it was very bitter.
And so he poured the juice into a fire,
and the beans started making smelly noises.
That doesn't sound right.
And he liked the aroma of it.
And then that's where coffee came from.
The man's name was Folger Crystals.
Mr. Folger Crystals.
No, but that's how it was discovered.
And I don't know how from my, I have to follow up the story.
I didn't have that kind of time today to study everything.
But it was in the fire, and he liked the smell of it.
But I enjoy coffee so, so much.
I'm a little concerned, because it's now,
the gas prices are going down.
Coffee prices going up.
Starbucks announced that they're raising the price of coffee
a nickel per cup.
And it doesn't seem like that much.
I know everybody's like, oh, what's the big deal?
But that's how they get you.
They start off like that.
You're like, what's a nickel?
Until you go, you know, a nickel, for instance,
let me just put it this way.
You're getting out of your car.
You're at a parking meter.
And a nickel is very, very necessary.
If you just need to run in to pick up something
from the dry cleaners, you don't want to put a quarter in.
That's a waste, right?
You're just running.
Like, if I want to just go in and pick up
my slips from the dry cleaners, quarter.
But anyway, and you can't really buy anything for nickel anymore.
They used to be called five and dime stores.
And now all we have, the smallest amount,
is the $0.99 stores.
Because at some point, they just added $0.94.
And we were like, didn't notice.
And it's all of a sudden the $0.99.
So before, coffee turns into $20 a cup.
And somebody said, how come somebody didn't stop it?
And I'm trying to help you today.
Let's start noticing that.
It's a nickel today, but who knows?
Because right now, the coffee is necessary for a lot of us.
And I just don't roll that way.
I say, I'm not going to just let something like this go.
So today, I'm going to pass this around.
It's called a trust basket.
It has a nickel in it.
I want you to take a nickel, pass it around.
There's enough for one nickel for each person
in the audience.
Take it, pass it, take it, pass it.
And everyone here gets a nickel.
You're welcome.
Keep the trust basket going around.
Somebody doesn't have a nickel, someone took two nickels.
Because I counted it.
And look how joyous everyone was taking that nickel.
All right, and then we did a poll before everyone sat down
today, and we found out the person who drinks the most
coffee here in the audience, Jelena Mitzer.
Where's Jelena?
Jelena Mitzer, come on down.
What did I say?
Was it Jelena?
Jelena.
All right, Jelena, where do you live?
Escondido.
Do you need a mic?
All right, Escondido.
Escondido.
What do you do in Escondido?
We own a construction company.
OK, oh, I need to talk to you.
Construction.
All right, so now, how much coffee do you drink?
On average, maybe four cups a day.
Four cups a day, you start in the morning.
Start in the morning, my husband makes me a delicious cup
of Venezuelan coffee.
So that's strong?
Yeah.
Yeah, I like strong coffee.
I'm from New Orleans, so I like the really strong.
I love New Orleans coffee.
Yeah, I still buy New Orleans coffee.
So all right, and you drink until how late at night?
Well, 11.
Do you know how much a gallon of coffee would be?
How much a gallon?
Cost-wise?
Uh-huh.
Oh.
Gosh, a gallon?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
How much?
Like $8.
$13.
OK, well, I was close.
Yeah, you were close.
$13 and gas is $3 a gallon.
Something's wrong.
Yeah.
All right, let me give you another.
I'm going to give you a chance on a little game that we have.
We have a new game called Guest to Guest,
because we have a guest on Friday.
Yeah.
All right, so he's a guest on Friday's show.
And if you guess correctly who the guest is,
you get to come back Friday and meet the guest.
Ooh!
Look at that.
OK.
All right, here's your first clue.
OK.
He's good looking.
Ooh.
OK, Patrick Dempsey.
No.
Oh.
All right, but he is good looking.
Yeah.
All right, we're going to do a visual clue.
OK.
Where is it?
All right, right here.
That 70s.
That 70s show.
Yes!
Ashton Kutcher!
Yes!
All righty, but today, Robert Downey Jr. and Sting
are going to be here.
Sitting right there.
Anatomy.
Kate Walsh is going to be out here.
Sitting right there.
Kate Walsh.
Wisconsin grocery bagging champion Lori Ingle
is going to be here.
Also, because it's Wednesday, it's
Wendy's wonderful world of web videos.
And we are starting you out with a wonderful, wonderful
video.
This is adorable.
This is Johnny's nephew.
How old is he?
In the video, he's like nine months old.
How old is he now?
18 months old.
Oh my god, this little, this is adorable.
He's dancing to Michael Jackson, nine months old.
Look at this.
His name is Tiny Man.
His name is not Tiny Man.
What's his name?
No, his name is Christian.
Christian, but you call him Tiny Man?
Yeah, everybody calls him Tiny Man.
That's cute.
Hi, Tiny Man.
Hello, Tiny Man.
Holla!
He looks like he drinks coffee.
A lot, a lot, yeah.
All right, so I gave you the book yesterday,
California Driver's Handbook.
That's right.
That should give you plenty of time.
Last night, you probably stayed home.
You studied it?
I did, yes, all night.
All right.
I'm going to give you a quiz, and it's just a sample.
This is the kind of thing that you're going to need to know.
OK.
All right, a pedestrian is crossing your lane,
but there's no crosswalk.
You should A, make sure the pedestrian sees you
and continue driving.
B, carefully drive around the pedestrian.
C, stop and let the pedestrian cross the street.
I'm going to have to go with C.
That's right.
You'd be correct.
Signal is not working.
You must A, stop, then proceed when safe.
B, stop before entering the intersection
and let all other traffic go first.
C, slow down or stop only if necessary.
A.
Well, that's just because they laugh.
You actually considered the C.
No, I didn't consider the C.
No, you thought about it, and then someone laughed,
and you went, A.
No.
It is A. Yes, stop if there's a signal that's not working.
That makes sense.
All right.
All right, so hey, tonight, it's tonight.
The Biggest Loser is on.
Does anybody watch The Biggest Loser?
Last week was the premiere, and I'd never seen it before.
It's, I guess, the third season?
Is it the third?
I don't know what it is, but I've never watched it before.
If you like reality shows, I mean, some people don't,
but I really, it's really good.
It's very compelling, and these four people,
they're so dedicated, and they want so badly
to change their lives, and it's, you know,
it makes you want to work out, too.
When you watch the show, you're like,
you just want to take care of yourself and feel good.
Anyway, that's on tonight, Biggest Loser,
which I like a lot, and I'm all for anything that
encourages us to be healthier.
Andy, we checked on your cholesterol,
because your cholesterol before was, what was it, 266?
Yeah.
Yeah, and we said you've got to take care of yourself.
You've got twin baby boys on the way in about a month now,
right?
They're due.
Four weeks.
That's very exciting.
And so you've got to take care of yourself.
So we tested you again today.
That is correct.
All right, and what is Andy's?
You don't know what it is.
I don't know.
It was 266.
You know what it is now?
213.
What have you done differently that you're?
I've just been eating healthier.
I cut out all red meat and cheeses and anything
that really makes me happy, I've cut out.
Everything that makes you happy.
All right, but you're still, it's
going to ultimately make you happier.
But I have a prize for you, I said, right?
Yeah, I'm excited.
Look at the Brussels sprouts.
This is my stand up before, but during the commercial break,
Johnny was playing Diana Ross's Upside Down.
And there's a line in that song that I just cannot believe
that we all just sing along to.
It's respectfully, I say to thee,
I'm aware that you're cheating, but no one
makes me feel like you do.
I just can't believe that someone wrote that
Respectfully, I say to thee, I'm aware that you're cheating.
She's respectful of that.
It's Wednesday, and you know what that means?
It's time for Wednesday's Wonderful World of Web Videos.
All right, so last Wednesday, we showed you this video,
and now we receive word that it's possibly a fake.
There's a rumor that this is not real at all.
It was doctored up to look like this.
So I'll show you the video of these kayakers.
Take a look.
They say it's not real.
So they're saying, I guess, that they took the whale
from someplace else and made it.
So I have no idea, but we don't want to show false videos.
It was pretty incredible if that whale fell on those people
and they came back popping up.
So now I question this, because they showed me
this this morning.
This was on the web, and this is too hilarious to be true.
Johnny, your nephew's adorable, but look at this little baby,
and he's break dancing.
I don't know how old he is, but if you are real,
it's unbelievable.
Take a look.
Call me if that's your kid, or he can dial himself, probably.
He's pretty amazing.
All right, there's nothing funnier to me
than when people try to show off, and then they fall down.
Take a look.
And still falls down.
All right, this is pretty quick, but this, I guess,
is just a woman who's a pole dancer and trying to be sexy.
It's not really for amateurs.
You really have to know what you're doing.
She's dancing.
She thinks she's doing well.
Oopsie, uh-oh.
This, to me, is not the woman.
OK, it's an anchor woman, and she's clearly,
it's live on the news in Serbia.
The woman faints, but what's hilarious to me
is the guy doesn't know what to do to help her or not.
This woman, completely, clearly, they're in a feud,
because she does not even flinch when
the other woman faints.
Take a look.
All concerned with that woman's health, and he's just, OK,
I'll just go on with the news.
All right, and this, you know, oh, God,
there's so many wonderful things about babies,
but this has to be the most hilarious thing I've ever
seen, this little baby.
I'm sure most of you experience this with your babies,
but this just makes me happy.
Baby, a happy baby.
It just waits, and then looks at the cup again, and then, ah!
All right, so I saved my favorite one for last.
We're going to show you at the end of the show.
And this is, oh, it's great.
So this is, I'll show you later.
When we come back, Sting and Robert Downey Jr.
will be out here.
Don't go away.
Our first two guests are two of my favorites.
One is a legendary Grammy award-winning musician.
The other is one of our most gifted actors.
Together, they have a new film entitled,
A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints.
Please welcome back Sting and Robert Downey Jr.
I like you together.
I like it.
This is good.
It's cool, isn't it?
It's very fun that you're doing something together.
How long have y'all known each other?
You're my waiter.
Yeah.
Really?
I used to have coffee every morning
below my apartment in West Broadway in Soho, New York.
Called Central Falls, had coffee every morning,
and this boy was my waiter.
Do you remember him?
No.
Oh.
I was before the charisma.
I see.
Did I tip?
Somebody did something.
You just asked me for peppermint tea,
and I almost passed out.
And you looked at me like, anyway,
and you got back to your conversation.
So that must have been, I'd be nervous waiting on Sting.
That must have been exciting.
It still unnerves me, because he can be very exacting
with the breakfast orders.
Oh, really?
And Sting, his music helped you.
You said you listened to it when you were in jail.
Is that right?
The show five times, I think four of them been after jail.
It's always got to come up.
God, it was a blast.
Yeah.
Your album, Brand New Day, came out,
and it was just so strange, because it was never really
a brand new day.
It was the same day all over again.
But that helped me so much, because it
was such a beautiful and hopeful album.
I love that album.
If I Ever Lose My Faith in You, the song that we were taking,
well, we weren't taking bets, but that
was the song that was playing when we walked up.
Yeah, I love that whole album.
I think I told you when you were on, just every song on there,
I love that.
And well, we said you were in jail,
but how long now have you been sober?
Well over two years.
That's fantastic.
And congratulations, is it your one year anniversary
that you're married now?
Yeah, we made it.
You made it.
That's great.
Y'all are a cute couple.
And it's 24 years with Trudy.
Now, how long?
I'd also say one day at a time.
Really?
Yeah.
But do you, I mean, I hear you.
You know what I mean.
But so really, you just think this is uncommitted for today?
Don't take anything for granted.
Yes, I agree with that.
I think a lot of people take each other for granted,
and it evaporates.
Don't do that.
But you travel, and yet you have a two week rule
where you're not apart for more than two weeks.
Yeah.
And you and Trudy?
Well, if you add all the time we've been together,
real time, it's probably only two weeks,
because I'm always on tour.
And that's how you make it 24 years.
That really keeps it very, very fresh, you know.
But so that doesn't bother you to be away?
You think that keeps it fresh to be away from each other?
Yeah, a little bit.
Yeah?
A little bit, yeah.
See, I'm not the, I can't, I like
to be in a relationship and not be apart that much.
And you're the same way.
Yeah.
I'm like you.
I'm glad that you are.
So we have this life list going on
that we're talking about on the show all the time.
And I would think, because the whole reason I'm doing this
is because I really, truly believe that what you visualize,
what you think about, and if you write it down,
you can accomplish.
I think that that's how most people achieve things,
by actually putting energy into it
and not just forgetting about it.
Is there anything left that you want
to do that you haven't done yet?
I think my dreams are the same as I had
when I was a little boy.
I wanted to be a better musician.
I still want that.
It's still my journey.
And what does that mean to be a better,
like in what way would you be better?
In every respect, a better singer, a better songwriter,
a better arranger, band leader, better person.
And do you feel like you're accomplishing it?
One day at a time, yeah.
Because I would say you're pretty prolific.
I mean, I think every album is just as good.
It's like it's really hard to keep up.
It has to be better.
That's the problem.
Well, what I mean is better.
Let me finish what I'm saying.
And what's on your life list?
Well, I mean, so much of it has already happened.
I have, I think, just to continue,
it's more like principle to just be really grateful
and drive a little more patience and stuff.
I mean, again, too, I mean, from way back
and when we'd first met to imagine that we would actually
wind up partnering up on something.
And we've had a lot of creative interaction together.
And I just, you know, to be able to work and play and hang
with the people I admire most on Earth,
I mean, it really doesn't get any better than this right here.
Yeah, it's pretty cool.
I mean, really, that is amazing.
You were serving him coffee and now you're
doing a film together and hanging out.
Very cool.
All right, so we'll talk about that film.
We have to take a break.
We'll be right back.
I love watching that.
We're back with Sting and Robert Downey Jr.
And that's a piece of the movie, A Guide
to Recognizing Your Saints.
And it's a movie that you star in.
Sting, you executive produce.
And Trudy also produces, right?
Yeah.
And you produce.
Everybody's producing.
Well, we found this piece of material.
He's a friend of mine.
And in fact, I'd known him from New York.
And he wrote this great book.
And then we developed it into a script.
Really, Trudy did just a tremendous amount
of developing the script and kind of helped
in getting the whole film together.
And then, like any independent film, I mean, you sneeze
and the dough goes away.
And that happened a couple times.
And then we thought, what person who's
a proponent of this project might we
be able to find some of the financing for?
No, I read the script.
I thought it was such an authentic, very moving film.
And I thought, we can't let this go.
So I put my money on the line.
And perhaps I'll make my money back.
I think you're going to make it back.
It's already winning awards.
It's won a couple of awards already, right?
Yeah, it was a Best Director at Sundance and Ensemble,
Critics' Choice in Venice.
That's great.
That's fantastic.
And it's got a great cast.
Chaz Palminteri.
And there's Shia LaBeouf and also Stockard.
Diane Rees.
And Channing Tatum, who's doing great lately.
Diane Rees.
And Diane Rees.
It's really, really a good movie.
Rosario Dawson, who's-
Yeah, and Rosario Dawson.
Obviously, I thought that might have been self-evident.
Rosario!
Well, it's great.
And congratulations.
And here's what I want to do before y'all go.
There's always the pound of flesh on that one.
Really?
No.
All right, so these are a couple of facts
that I've never seen before, but I was given.
And I'm going to try to guess which one it's about.
All right?
It says, the first time I met Tom Cruise,
I played him in ping pong, and he whipped my butt 21 to 4.
I'm going to say that's about you, Robert.
Correct.
All right.
My only recourse was to jump the net, which I did,
not only landing on the other side,
but smashing the ping pong table to pieces.
So do you and Tom hang out more?
I showed him.
Yeah, you showed him.
Once, I got fired from a shoe store
on the second day of employment for stealing.
I took a pair of pleather moccasins
that weren't even my size.
I can't imagine that you would do that,
but I'm going to guess sting.
No way.
No, I just thought we were going to switch it up.
But you stole pleather moccasins?
In my sordid past, I stole a pair of shoes as well.
My dad was a milkman who taught me
the importance of punctuality, although I was
late for the birth of my son.
That is you, Sting, right?
Yes, guilty.
Now, why were you late for the birth of your son?
I was too young and too irresponsible,
and I fell asleep.
It's true.
That's a horrible part.
I was 12.
I had my wife's wedding ring inscribed
with the Latin saying, until the wheels fall off.
That could be both of you.
But it'd be weird if you both had it done.
I'm going to say Robert.
Thank you.
Yes, all right.
I worked on a cruise ship when I was 17,
and a crew member told me to stop
singing because my voice was upsetting
some of the passengers.
Sing?
No, it's true.
It is true.
I like this game.
All right, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints
opens in New York and LA on Friday,
and more cities throughout the fall.
We'll be right back.
Don't go away.
Thanks a whole lot.
Recently being named Wisconsin's grocery bag champion,
here to answer the age-old question, paper or plastic,
please welcome Lori Ingle.
Bag, see?
It's a little play on what you do.
All right, so what is the answer, paper or plastic?
For me, definitely paper.
Paper is much easier to work with,
and you can fit a lot more in a bag.
And what's the hardest part?
For me, it would be the speed, because I'm a perfectionist,
and I like everything in its place.
Me too.
But in a competition, you have to sacrifice a little bit
of that to get your speed up.
OK.
And then, are there any tips that you can tell me?
I've never, I haven't even rehearsed this.
All right.
What are the tips?
Well, you don't want to break the eggs.
OK.
Do you get points taken away if you break eggs?
Yeah.
OK.
You don't want to crush the bread.
OK.
And the most important thing, when you're done,
you get everything in your bag, you
want to clap your hands over your head.
OK.
And remember, when you do it, the heavy stuff
goes on the bottom, the lighter stuff on top.
Sure, well that seems natural.
All right, so we have light bulbs,
and we have bread, and we have chips, and things like that.
Right.
That are, all right, and what's your fastest time so far?
I think about 45 seconds.
And OK, 45 seconds, so we're competing against each other,
and we're just doing one bag?
Two bags.
Two.
You get two bags.
Don't tell me what to do, Andy.
All right, put your bag down.
You want to fit everything in two bags, OK?
You have to fit all of this in two bags,
and then we clap our hands above our head.
That's right.
OK.
Ready?
Wait, can I touch mine too?
Sure.
OK.
Ready?
Ready.
Go.
You're going to be off to Vegas, so I guess you won't.
But I have a trophy for you anyway.
Here, from our show, it's just between the two of us.
Thank you so much for being here.
Congratulations, good luck, and Vegas, come back and see us.
OK, thank you.
People tuned in to last week's season premiere
of Grey's Anatomy.
Our next guest plays Dr. Addison Shepard on the show.
Take a look.
That's hilarious.
It's a sad thing to say.
It is sad when you have to say that to yourself.
Yeah, yeah.
All right, so now, do you have a husband?
What's happening?
I have four, and no, I have none.
No, that's because I say I am desirable on every date.
No, it's hard.
It's dating.
It's like I'm on a desert island here.
It's a little tough.
No, but in the show.
We wanted one.
Oh, in the show.
Yes.
Oh, oh.
Much.
Yeah.
Yeah, the husband, yeah, he's there.
It's a little, you know, nebulous.
It's a little gray.
Yeah.
I don't know.
We're going to find out, yeah.
Yeah, he lied.
His robot program chip was off, so yeah.
When do we find out?
When is it?
And if he does choose someone else,
then are you going to stay, or are you going to?
Unless somebody, like, pushes me down an elevator shaft,
I think I'm going to stay for a while.
Yeah, good, good.
So you were starting to say that you're single.
I know, why would I just, like, talk about that?
Why would anybody want to be, like, yeah.
Clearly, you're desperate, and you're trying to, uh.
I'm very desperate.
And you're lonely, and it's hard in this town
to meet somebody.
I'm lonely, and I'm angry about it.
Yeah.
Yeah, it is.
No, it's strange to date, though.
I mean, on this show, we work a lot of hours.
So then you get to dating, you're sort of like,
is this going to work?
Yeah.
Because I got to get back to work in like four hours.
Well, that is.
I don't know how you do.
Yeah.
Are we going to go anywhere?
Do you want to have a baby?
Yeah, it's a little.
No, you could probably be chasing people away,
if those are the questions on the first date.
And then I close with, I'm desirable.
I'm desirable.
Well, here's what we did.
We found three eligible men.
They're backstage right now.
And wouldn't that be great?
No, but Lauren Graham was on the show yesterday,
and she's saying the same thing.
When you're on a show like that, you have long, long hours,
and it's hard to meet anybody.
Yeah, yeah.
That's why people date people in the industry.
And you date people.
If it's not working out after the appetizer,
you're just like, I got to, because.
You don't have that kind of time to invest.
Now, what are you looking for?
Just we'll put it out there, because that's what.
My whole thing is about life lists.
And I think that if you actually write down
things of what you want in life, as big or small as you want,
and visualize it, things will come to you.
So what are you looking for?
Well, first of all, on the life, I'm
looking for a great Spanish class.
And I understand that you took one recently.
Si, si.
So yeah, that seems a little more finite
than this is what I'm looking for in a partner.
But I do want to learn.
I mean, it's embarrassing.
I only know a smattering of Spanish and Italian.
It's a little hard.
Maybe you find a Latino man who can teach you.
You get both at once.
You learn Spanish, and you meet a man.
Maybe a little dancing.
There's nothing wrong with that.
Yeah.
Put that out there.
I'll put it out there.
Yeah, so Spanish is on your, you want to learn Spanish.
Yeah, yeah.
That's mine, too.
And be more patient.
Yeah.
I want to be more, yeah, patient and combination
patient and kind.
I think it's easy to be nice, as I was saying.
I think it's very easy to be nice.
But to be kind and understanding.
What's the difference for you between nice and kind?
Compassion.
Have compassion, you know, for others.
And patience, patience.
Patience is a big one.
Yeah, I'm having a hard time with patience.
Compassion I have, and kindness, but just hurry up about it.
You know what I'm saying?
Chop, chop.
Yeah, yeah.
I get it.
Poor you.
Now, what else?
I really don't know what else.
All right, so hey, Matt Perry's, Matthew Perry.
What about him for a date?
You know what?
I'm trying to set Matthew up.
Are you?
Yeah.
Yeah, we know each other, Matthew.
Oh, do you?
Did you all date?
Have you kissed?
No, we haven't.
No, no, no.
We haven't.
Yeah, Lauren Graham kissed him, she said.
Oh, really?
Yeah, so, but you haven't kissed him.
How was it?
No.
She said it was fantastic.
Wow.
Yeah.
She said, I highly recommend it to anyone else.
Maybe you and Matthew Perry.
Maybe.
All right.
We can work it out.
So then, or what?
All right, think about it.
He has long hours, too, so that you won't get tired.
We have that in common.
Yeah, you won't see each other much.
We both have dark hair, so.
Exactly.
All right, it sounds good.
Sounds like a winning match.
It's a winner.
All right, Grey's Anatomy airs on ABC Thursday night
at 9 o'clock.
We'll be right back with my favorite web video.
You should see this web video.
It's adorable.
Stay here, actually.
I'm going to stay.
All right, we'll be right back.
All right.
I don't care if you don't like cats.
You're like, I don't like cats.
This kitten is determined.
You know, certain cats, like my cat,
runs around the house with a little toy in its mouth
and is the cutest thing in the world
and carries it to me and talks.
This one has a dust bust, like a duster,
as a thing it likes to carry around.
A large duster with plastic still on it.
And it has a special place it likes to go to.
And still, this cat is determined to get it there.
Take a look.
Free angle tomorrow.
Howie Mandel will be here.
See you then.
