Guys, welcome to the Future Elk Shape HQ.
This is where we're going to have our filming studio,
and we're going to bring you guys along
as we build this process.
My dad's retired, he's over here swinging a hammer.
He's a retired carpenter,
project manager for several years.
So what we're looking at is,
this is where Jeff and I are going to live.
And by live, I mean,
we're going to have a podcast studio right here.
You can see, we'll be able to really control the sound,
and we'll have the lighting,
and it'll all be really nice.
Over here, we'll be more like,
what we'd probably call like,
in our world, there's like product display,
overview reviews, top-down cameras,
lighting, a white table with just the gear,
breaking down how to use gear and whatnot.
And then over here will be like our little mini archery shop
where we can do bow builds, archery builds,
arrow builds, tune, tinker, just all the cool stuff.
Over here is we're going to have probably like
a refrigerator, little kitchenette,
so Jeff and I can keep our food heated up,
make coffee, smoothies.
And then we were debating on,
see, I'm going to keep most of my hunting gear in here,
and we're going to have security cameras everywhere,
by the way,
but we're thinking about just having a place
to store all our camera gear,
all our elk hunting gear,
all our bear hunting gear,
whitetail gear in here.
We gave away the two front doors.
We put it on Facebook Marketplace.
It's like a hundred bucks.
Come take the garage door openers.
We'll include the garage door opener.
That took 15 minutes.
So they're gone.
We're going to frame that in,
and we're going to build a gable entrance
that'll look really cool.
What?
Today's the day.
Today's the day that we do what?
We show the people the new studio.
Okay, fine.
This is what I do all day.
I sit here.
I watch Jeff edit,
and I think of all the big ideas,
and that's kind of how it goes.
Not really the truth.
This is kind of our viewing area,
and it was where we sit and watch the final edits,
the final product.
This is a two-car garage
that we completely gutted,
pulled out all the old insulation,
pulled out,
did some demo.
There was some stuff going on here,
walls and stuff,
an old cellar route,
a little bit of rat poop,
knocked it all out,
reframed it,
rewired it,
sheetrocked it,
textured, paint,
and kind of built it along the way.
We have all the footage.
We'll show you some of that along the way,
and we want to give you guys first looks
of what it's like to work here at Elk Shape HQ.
We did move.
We sold our house.
At the time of this video,
I don't have everything moved out of the old house,
and the people that bought the house
are probably getting pretty impatient with us
because we had a six-week closing,
told them we needed an extra two weeks to move
because we've got a lot of stuff.
We've been living there for a while,
and we had to build out the studio
and build out the gym to put stuff
so we could work.
This is my editing bay.
This is where I edit.
This is where Jeff edits.
We have never really been set up
to edit shoulder-to-shoulder.
It's been awesome.
It's like, hey, man,
what do you think of this?
How can I make it better?
We are obsessed with making the best content
and having a strong cadence
to where we don't let you down.
Believe that.
So thank you from Jeff and Dan.
Thank you for the support.
Here's where I keep-
We appreciate you.
Keep kind of some day packs
if we're gonna go out for a quick studio,
leave the studio, go do a shoot.
We can load camera gear in there
or trail cameras or what have you.
I have all my bow cases and ground blinds and travel.
Have bow, will travel.
These totes have been a lifesaver
because I have quite a bit of hunting gear.
So we got Puffy and Gators.
This tote's dedicated to just antelope,
just spring bear, elk hunting,
extra hunting clothing,
born-printed outdoor tops.
This says trail cams, maps, and socks.
Over here is a lot of my archery tinkering gear
for juicing up veins and point weights
and scales and all the nerdy archery stuff.
I have a few archery releases.
This is a ballistic gel mold.
I have a slight crispy boot addiction.
A lot of my glass.
Hashtag must be nice.
Remember kids, I'm older than I look
is what they tell me,
but I know, seriously, I've been doing this a long time.
So I don't sell stuff.
Some kind of a gear hoarder, if you will.
And if I don't have it, I usually give it away.
Some cams, the old lab radar,
some of my favorite little delicious species,
my long-range rifle stuff that's gonna be set up soon,
some burrs, a kitty cat, a mountain goat,
my paper tuner.
This is now on the website now, guys.
Gotta get one of these.
It hangs, doesn't take up a lot of real estate.
We can paper tune some bulls.
Couldn't keep all the bulls in the gym,
so we put some in here as well, some bears.
This is where you'll see most of our archery-related content
or maybe even some unboxing,
which obviously I need to do some content review.
Some receipts, some glasses, some coffee,
my bow, my bows.
This is where I work on my bows.
MFJJ's coming over today to get me,
I think, his new little doodad that hooks up here
so that I can check time
and also do that third-axis leveling
and get me some new of these guys for the Matthews.
Should be cool.
Where we cut arrows, we got the ram tester.
This is all the archery stuff that we do.
This is the hoodlum pack.
That'll probably get used this fall.
Fall's in the air.
You guys excited?
Honey season's almost here.
I can't believe it.
Lighting is super important.
This would be like a key light coming at you
at a 45 with the egg carton mesh.
We got some backlit.
We can light up those LEDs.
I'll show you that.
Because this is not a polished video, guys.
This is truly behind the scenes of how we do stuff.
Here, this is my backup 29 and a half,
all doped in, ready to go.
Hopefully we don't have to use it,
but you gotta have that backup bow, friends.
And in here is kind of more of a product type.
Tyler uses this one for the Elk Shaped Gear channel.
Check out that channel.
Tyler's not sponsored, and he does a really good job.
So we'll do, like, I'll do one right now.
This is a ground blind chair
that I ordered from BlackOvis.com.
I buy a lot of stuff from BlackOvis
because my discount works there.
It's Elk Shaped, it takes 10% off.
It's lighter.
This is from Muddy.
Again, I got it at BlackOvis.
Yeah, dude, that's gonna be sweet.
When you're shooting from a ground blind,
pro tip, because I've done this,
you're gonna shoot low if you hunch.
So I always try to set the ground blind up
to where I have to have really good posture.
Right there, nice and tall, make that T.
You'll hit right where you're aiming.
Yeah, but this is, we got the mute boards up top.
We have a top-down tripod for that top-down view.
Here's some of my favorite sheds that I refuse to sell.
They're all from Idaho.
A couple of Mule Deer, three Mule Deer.
Oh, a Blacktail, a couple Spikes, Spike Elks.
Here's your key light, your soft light in the background.
It's good.
Again, you won't ever probably see the wide view.
We'll always have it nice and polished, ready to go.
This is the podcast studio now.
It's actually really nice to have these sound blankets,
the sound boards.
You should never have to see any of that.
My chair is here.
And then we'll have a main camera filming both people
across from each other.
And then we have room for a third guest.
These are Shure mics.
So with a Shure mic, the audio is so much better.
We're just trying to elevate our game.
And I'm here for more in-person podcasts.
For the last seven years,
I've been doing largely like Zoom-type podcasts
where it's just not as personal.
I'll still do some,
but my preference is to podcast with normal people
who are cool in person.
If that's you, hit us up.
All right, moving on.
This is Luna's dog bed.
It's where she sleeps.
And then I have more storage.
We got sleeping bags.
This thing is so heavy.
This has been my ground blind chair forever.
And it's literally five times as heavy as that.
And it's awkward.
And it's starting to squeak.
And you guys know,
like if you ground blind hunt whitetail or antelope,
you can't make a sound.
Turkey dekes, turkey calls, little tripods, vinyl harnesses.
Over here's our break room.
This is our bathroom.
There's not a shower,
but Jeff and I can take care of business.
Y'all have seen a bathroom.
We got a sink installed.
That was a pain in the ass to get water and plumbing.
This was just a garage.
Post-workout stuff,
stuff for making pour over coffee or just brewed coffee.
And it wouldn't be,
this is going to be sad.
We just moved in.
We got Jeff's,
is that from last week?
Yep.
What is this?
Eggs?
Still going to eat it?
Probably not.
Okay.
Maybe take that home today.
Maybe not.
I don't know.
We got the Costco.
No, this ain't Costco.
This is Walmart RTDs.
We got Costco Premier Protein RTDs.
We got the Black Rifle Express.
Guys, we need to work on this.
I will have it ready if you come by.
And then, yeah.
So this is it, man.
This is where we basically hang out.
I will say it's been a long time coming
and it's nice to have editing, podcasting,
filming all under the same roof.
And Jeff's been editing at home.
So it's been a lot of WeTransfer,
if you know what that is,
Dropboxing, Google Drives,
driving over to each other's house,
exchanging media cards and SSDs.
And if you guys want to do what we do for a living,
it is a grind.
It is, the grind never stops.
As soon as you click publish,
you're back to zero.
You got to be coming up with fresh ideas.
Our goal is to just keep it real,
bring you guys along for the ride,
but giving you the first looks of this awesome studio.
Appreciate you coming along.
Dad, how many years have you been doing this content game?
Since, so 2006 is when I first started.
So went full, yeah, I went full time in 2019.
Kind of like committed,
just jumped off the cliff, sink or swim.
Right now, barely keeping our head above water,
but we couldn't be any happier
because we do what we love and we love what we do.
Separations in the preparation.
We'll catch on the next one.
