Hi, my name's Bob Lindy.
I'm an acupuncture physician and registered herbalist
in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Today I'm gonna talk to you about using acupuncture
for headaches, but whilst pregnant.
And so it's very important that you see
a well-qualified acupuncture physician
who's worked with folks who are pregnant before,
because there's a number of different points
that we can't utilize whilst a person is pregnant,
that even though normally it would be very effective
for headaches, there is a risk that we have problems
with the pregnancy.
So in this case, we're going to deal with a frontal headache
and use a point that's generally considered very, very safe.
And it is very effective to use acupuncture
and acupressure for dealing with headaches whilst pregnant.
So this particular point we're going to use
is called Yin Tong.
It's one of my personal favorites,
because it helps with both sinus pain and pressure,
as well as very relaxing.
So once we've swabbed the point,
we can use one of our single-use needles
and go ahead and place it in very gently.
Whenever we're dealing with someone who is pregnant,
we don't want to overstimulate the points
any more than necessary.
So once we've left that point in for about 20 minutes,
the patient will be very relaxed and very comfortable,
and we might choose some other points
based on a diagnosis that we've gone through
on their entire medical history,
and we've ascertained the real reasons for their headaches.
Once we've left it in for a while,
and we'll sometimes get a little spot of blood
just because there's a lot of blood vessels in the face,
we can go ahead and swab that point.
So if you are dealing with any kind of complications
during your pregnancy, anything from nausea and vomiting
to headaches and a variety of other problems
that can happen during your pregnancy,
make sure you contact an acupuncture physician in your area
who specializes in working with pregnant women.
So you can oftentimes find that person
by checking acufinder.com,
or checking with NCCIOM
for a licensed acupuncturist in the United States.
This is Bob Lindy in St. Petersburg, Florida,
talking to you about using acupuncture
for headaches whilst pregnant.
