Do you ever dream of a home that looks high-end, cozy, and perfectly spring ready? Well right now
this space is looking pretty boring and we definitely need to decorate it for spring.
So watch as I completely transform this room into my favorite space in the house.
My fireplace mantle is one of my favorite places to decorate for the changing holidays and seasons.
During the Christmas time, we go all out. We have an ornate garland with ornaments and
greenery and ribbons. It is absolutely extravagant. But during the spring season,
we need to tone it down just a little bit. So we're going to be doing a very streamlined version,
but it's going to be equally as beautiful. And I guarantee you, you haven't seen this design.
My inspiration for my entire spring decorating stemmed from these beautiful ginger jars that
I found a month or two ago at HomeGoods. I actually debuted these ginger jars during the
live that Natalie and I did. Someone asked me what my plans for spring was as far as decorating
color scheme went, and I showed you these stunning ginger jars. So let's take a closer
look at them. They have flowers and branches and leaves and birds in a variety of colors that are
perfect for spring. We've got light pinks and dark pinks. It's also got a beautiful gold outlining
around the leaves and the birds. They are a great size. They were definitely the jumping off point
for my color palette when it came to my spring decorating. They were a $39.99 a piece,
which isn't bad considering I've never seen anything like this. And ginger jars can get
pretty pricey, so I definitely picked up both of these. I'm happy they had two. And what we're
going to do with these ginger jars are place them on my fireplace mantle. I'm adding one to each end
of the mantle. They add a beautiful touch of color and weight to this mantlescape. If you do not have
a ginger jar like this, there are definitely plenty of other alternatives that you can use.
Just make sure that they are heavy because we're actually going to be putting things behind it.
So you can use a vase or a candlestick or whatever you have around the house that you like to display
on your mantle. The next thing that we need is something right in the center. And I love switching
out my art prints for the changing holidays and seasons. I have this stunning art print. It's from
my website. I actually used this last year, but we're going to use it again. It's going to go
beautifully with the greenery and the flowers that we're going to be adding to the mantlescape.
I'm going to place it inside of an ornate champagne gold frame, and then I'm going to take my print
and place it in front of the mirror. I'm leaning it up against it. The beautiful color from the print
coordinates so nicely with the ginger jars. Now it is time for the greenery. I need a whole bunch
of greenery. So we're going to head on over to Hobby Lobby. The flowers and greenery are 40%
off, and we love a discount. So I'm going to get some stems of leaves first. I picked up two hanging
stems of leaves. These are such a beautiful shade of green. They're a little bit darker, which ties
in with the darker color palette on the ginger jar. Since these leaves are darker, we want to
brighten it up with a few stems of lighter leaves. These are in a color palette of a light sage,
and because we are decorating for spring, we want it to be light and bright. So these sage leaves
will work beautifully. Now we're going to start to add them to our fireplace mantle, and instead
of cutting them, what I'm going to do is take my bunch of flowers and greenery. You'll see that we
do this with all kinds of items. We're going to take them, and we are just going to divide them
in half, just like this. We're going to go half one way and half the other. So I'm doing this with
my greenery, and then I'm going to take the stem, this stem right here, and I'm going to fold it one
way or the other. So we just have something that looks just like this. Now I'm going to take it and
slide it to behind the ginger jar. I want this greenery to drape across the fireplace mantle
and downwards. I love how these leaves cascade. I want both sides of the fireplace mantle skate
to be similar, so I drape the greenery on the opposite side in an identical way. Next, I took my
lighter stems of greenery. Once again, I'm going to split them right in the middle. I'm going to have
one half of the stem going one way and the other half the opposite way. I slid these branches behind
the ginger jar and intermix those with the darker shades of leaves. I love this contrast of color.
So now that our greenery is in place, we are going to move on to the flowers, which of course is my
favorite part. The first stem of flowers that we are going to use are some white wisteria. I think
wisteria is perfect for spring and summer. These are stunning. Once again, they are from Hobby Lobby
and of course they were 40% off just like the rest of the flowers and greenery. So I'm going to take
my stem of wisteria. I'm once again going to split it in half. I'm going to tuck the center
portion behind the ginger jar and I arrange them mostly on top of the greenery. We want the greenery
to be a subtle backdrop and have our flowers being the main focal point. I repeated this process on
both sides of the fireplace mantle, tucking the center of the flowers behind the ginger jar. The
in front of the greenery and down in front of the fireplace mantle. It looks very whimsical.
Now we do want a pop of color on our mantlescape and of course we're going with pink this year.
So I've got some bunches of pink peonies that we're going to use. These are in a light shade
of pink, which I think are going to go perfect with this design. So once again, I'm just going
to split them in half. Each bunch has five flowers, so I took three flowers that are going
one way and two the opposite way. I'm going to tuck the center of the bunch of flowers behind
the ginger jar and then arrange them so each flower head can be seen individually. I repeated
this process on the opposite side and tried my very best to mimic the placement of these flowers
so that they were identical on both sides. This pop of color is just what we need to brighten up
our mantlescape. The final stem of greenery that we're going to add to our mantlescape are these
little dangly botanicals. I don't know what they're called, but I think they look fantastic.
So I'm going to add a one stem to one side and it's going to hang down in front of the mantlescape
and then I added the second one to the opposite side. I love this lighter shade of green. These
stems add variety and uniqueness to our design. And that's it. We are completely finished. You guys,
doesn't this look stunning? I am simply in love with the way that this cascades down. It looks
so spring-like and it was so easy to do. We did not need any floral foam. We did not need to cut
one single stem of flowers. We didn't need floral wire. All we needed was something heavy to make
sure that the flowers behind stayed in place. So if you are going to mimic this, make sure that you
use a heavy item so that your flowers and everything else just don't come toppling over.
We do not want that to happen. And I love these ginger jars. They definitely are such a beautiful
jumping off point. The color scheme was derived from these jars and they match so beautifully
with our gorgeous spring print that is right in the center. We've got the gold from the frame that
coordinates with the gold that's on our ginger jars. And of course we've got pink flowers and
white flowers and all this greenery that coordinates not only with our ginger jar
but with our print as well. And another thing, don't feel like you can't do this if you don't
have a fireplace mantle. You can definitely recreate this look on a dresser. You could
recreate this on a foyer table or on a buffet. There are plenty of areas in your house where
you could give this design a try. And another way to cut down on some costs is just use the flowers
that you already have at home. I'm sure that you've caught a stash. We all have a stash, right?
So you don't need to go out and buy anything else. You could do a grander version of this or a more
streamlined version. But I just think that this is such a beautiful design. It is definitely
something that I have never done in my house before and I'm so glad that I decided to do this
for spring. For all my glasses lovers out there, this is for you. Check this out. I've got a base

and start decorating the kitchen. Now I typically like to start off by decorating the kitchen
island. I make a centerpiece but we're actually going to start off by decorating our kitchen
cabinets first. To go along with those beautiful ginger jars, when I was at HomeGoods, I found
these stunning plates. They are in the same color palette. They have similar flowers and they have
birds. You've got birds on the ginger jars, birds on the plates, and I love decorating with birds.
So picking up these plates was a no-brainer. They were $6.99 a piece which is a little pricey
for a plate but I thought I would splurge because I knew that these were going to be a beautiful
focal point. Now these are a little small to be putting in the kitchen cabinet. I actually have
a fairly large space between the bottom and the next shelf so this would look very small in there
by itself. So what I need to do is create something to go behind it to make it look more
substantial. Now in the past I have taken those chargers that I purchased at Hobby Lobby for $1.99
and beautified them so I thought let's do the same thing. So I picked up two clear chargers
with a beautiful gold rim from Hobby Lobby and yes they were still $1.99 which is fantastic.
So now that we have our chargers what we need is some fabric and I actually have some remnant
fabric from a project that I did last spring and I used this white and pink gingham fabric.
I had plenty left over and I knew that that color scheme and that design would be perfect in the
kitchen. So what I'm going to do is just lay out my fabric then I'm going to take my clear charger
flip it upside down and place it on the fabric and then I'm going to take a pencil and trace
around it. This will give me the perfect shape that will fit seamlessly over the back side of
my charger. I'm creating two decorative chargers so I can put one on this side and one on the other
side. Instead of tracing out another circle what I'm going to do is just fold that fabric right in
half and then I'm going to get my fabric scissors and cut it out. This will give me two circles that
are the exact same size and that will fit right over my chargers. Now you can see that this fabric
is wrinkled and if you want to iron it go ahead knock yourself out. I am not going to do that
because when we place the Mod Podge over the fabric it's going to be wet and we can smooth it
out. So the Mod Podge that we are going to be using is my favorite dishwasher safe Mod Podge.
I'm going to get my Mod Podge and a sponge brush. I'm going to paint on a decent amount of this Mod
Podge over the back of the charger. I'm going to make sure that it is completely covered in the
Mod Podge and then I'm going to get my fabric circle and I'm going to place it over the Mod
Podge. I'm pressing the fabric firmly to the charger. I want to make sure that all the air
bubbles are pressed out. I'm getting out my kitchen scraper tool to help me with this process.
You don't want anything to be wrinkled so smooth it out nicely. Once this process had been completed
on my first charger I moved on and did the exact same thing on my second charger. I'm painting on
a layer of the Mod Podge on the back of the charger placing my circular round piece of
fabric over the top and then pressing it firmly to the plate so that there are no lumps or bumps.
Because we are using fabric and it is so thick we can move directly on to the next step which is
painting on a top layer of Mod Podge over the surface of the fabric. So I just took my sponge
brush and the Mod Podge and I painted it directly over the fabric. I made sure that every inch of
fabric had been covered in the Mod Podge. The Mod Podge will stiffen up the fabric and since
we're using dishwasher safe Mod Podge it will make it water resistant. Once both of my chargers
have been covered in the top layer of Mod Podge I let it dry for three hours. So we're using
chargers on these two cabinets but I have a cabinet above the fridge that actually has a
smaller clearance so I can use a smaller plate and this is also a great alternative for you guys
if you can't find a clear charger. I just picked up a clear glass plate from the Dollar Tree. I
have more remnant fabric so we're going to use this pink and white gingham fabric again. I traced
around the glass plate, cut out my circle, Mod Podged the back of the plate, placed the fabric
over the top of the Mod Podge, pressed the fabric firmly to the plate, used my scraper tool to get
out any air bubbles and then moved directly on to painting on a top layer of Mod Podge over the
fabric and then once again let it dry for three hours. The reason why I'm putting the fabric on
the back of the charger is because I can still use the front of the charger for food. If I were to put
the fabric on the front and then Mod Podge it, I wouldn't be able to put the food directly on the
fabric because I don't think that this is food safe. For instance, last week when I gave the shovel
a makeover, I Mod Podged a napkin to the surface of the shovel. Instead of adding food directly to
that shovel, what I did was I put some plates down first and then added food to the plate.
So by placing the fabric on the back, I still have the opportunity to put food directly on this and
then I can wash it and because this is dishwasher safe Mod Podge, I'm able to wash it with hot soapy
water and get it nice and clean. If you don't have a clear charger or a clear plate, either you can't
find one or you just want to use up plates that you already have at your house, you can definitely
add the fabric to the front. Just repeat this process with the fabric on the front. It will
work out just as well. Now one problem that we do have is that the fabric that I cut to go on the
back isn't quite an exact match. There is a little bit of fabric hanging out around the edges and
it's not a problem right now because the Mod Podge actually stiffens up the fabric. So now I can take
my fabric scissors and trim around the edges. We want to remove that excess fabric so that it is a
perfect fit and because the Mod Podge has firmed up the fabric and made it stiff, it will not fray.
I trimmed up both of my chargers and moved on to my glass plate and trimmed around the perimeter
of it so that the sides were sharp and crisp. If you like designs like these, then make sure that
you are subscribed. I post new weekly videos on all things related to home decor and design
and I would love to share those with you. One thing that our chargers have that our plates do not
is this beautiful gold rim. So what we're going to do is try and get a little bit of a gold rim
around this plate. It has a little teeny bit of an edge, so we're going to take advantage of it
and I'm going to use a Dollar Tree gold paint pen and I'm just going to trace around the perimeter
of this plate. This was such an easy thing to do, but little details like this make a huge difference.
Now when you're looking at the plate from the sides, you can see a beautiful touch of gold
that coordinates with the chargers. So now we're done creating our chargers and plates to go right
inside of our cabinets. And like I said, we're going to layer these. Look at how pretty that
looks. The flowers look gorgeous. The shades of pink coordinate so nicely together, but honestly
the main reason why we did this was to take up the space. It makes our plate look so much more
substantial and I really love that we stuck with a gingham print because this plate has so much
color and design on it. We didn't want a fabric that was going to fight design-wise with our
plate. We wanted it to just be a neutral backdrop. So I've got a frame holder. I'm going to place my
charger on the frame holder and then I'm going to take my beautiful, vibrant floral and bird plate
and just place it right in front. You guys, this looks so pretty. It just is so spring-like
and it was super easy to do. Anybody could do it and you could use any fabric that you wanted.
Of course, you could use wrapping paper or napkins or scrapbook paper as a substitute for fabric.
So we've got these larger chargers on these two cabinets and now I'm going to take my plate
and add it to the cabinet above the fridge. It fits in there beautifully and instead of using
a bird plate or something vibrant, what I'm going to do is take a white plate that has a stunning
gold edge. I actually purchased a pair of these plates at the thrift store. They were 99 cents a
piece and they are so pretty. So I'm going to take one of these white plates and place it in front of
the pink and white gingham plate. I love layering plates like this. I think it gives our design a
more interest and color and you'll be seeing the companion to this white plate in just a second
when we create our centerpiece. Well, I think that's it for our cabinets. I love the way that
these chargers and plates turned out and they really make my cabinet stand out and shine.
So now that we're done, we're going to move down to the countertop and on top of the countertop,
I have, of course, my rectangular marble slab that I keep out all the time. I've got my battery
operated lamp and I also am using these acanthus leaf statues. I think that they are so pretty
and we want something that's just a little bit smaller, a little lower, because we want
different varieties of heights on our display. Now the next thing that we are going to get and display
is a pink ginger jar. Isn't that the cutest thing ever? I purchased these ginger jars at Burlington
and they were only $14.99. Now I love the color of these, but because it is a solid color,
we have a whole lot of pink and I want to break it up just a little bit. So what I'm going to do
is get some ribbon. I purchased this ribbon on Amazon. It's gold and cream and it has the most
beautiful leaf design on it and it's got a little bit of shimmer and shine. So what I'm going to do
is take a segment of this ribbon. I'm going to wrap it around the neck of a ginger jar and then tie
it into a bow. Now you could leave it just like this, just tie it into a bow and call it a day,
but I have been using so many pearls this spring in my designs that I thought it would be fun
to add a little touch of pearl and we're going to do that with some shoe clips. Once again, these
are from Amazon and these are to put on your high heels or flats to spruce them up. They have a
little clip on them, so you just clip them onto your shoes, but we're not going to clip it onto
our shoes. What we're going to do is clip it onto the center of our bow. So I just opened the clip
and tucked the back portion behind the center of the bow and closed the clip and look how pretty
it looks now. The ribbon and the clip just really elevate this ginger jar. I like to add extra
embellishments to my ginger jars. You don't have to if you don't want to. You could leave it plain,
but I think the extra touches just make your piece unique and one-of-a-kind. So I'm going to
take my pink ginger jar and I'm going to place it on top of a gold round. I love using these gold
rounds. I purchased them at Hobby Lobby and then I just spray paint them gold. So I'm going to put
that down right on top of the marble rectangle. Then I'm going to take my jar and place it right
on top of the round. I mimicked this design on the opposite side of the cooktop, so I have
two identical mini displays that look so pretty on the back of my kitchen countertop.
Alrighty, so now that we're done with our mini displays, let's move on and create
a stunning centerpiece for our island. This is my favorite place to decorate in the kitchen because
we can go big and bold and really make a statement. Now we're going to start off by just leaving my
gold vinyl runner. These are great for a kitchen because you can spill on them and easily wipe it
up. And then of course I've got my large round marble lazy susan. So these two pieces are staples
and I keep them here almost all of the time. Now we need to create a stunning flower arrangement
and like I said we're going to go big and bold. So I found these gorgeous pink magnolia stems at
Michaels. I picked up a whole bunch of these stems. I love the shade of pink on these magnolia flowers.
The other flowers that we're going to use are these little pink bud flowers and these are from
Hobby Lobby. The vase that we're going to be using is a white vase and it's actually a thrifted vase.
I gave it a makeover. I spray painted it white and I really love all the detailing on it and it
has a very small opening at the top which is going to be perfect for our stems because it will hold
them tight together and we don't have to have a ton of flowers. So this vessel is fantastic. So what
I'm going to do is take my flowers and I'm just going to start to add them to my vase. I have
several of these stems. I'm just going to poke them into the container and because the opening is so
small my flowers are going to stay in place. My flowers are also so tall that I kept hitting my
light fixture but that's okay. I just moved it back so yes this is definitely going to make a
statement with how tall these flowers are. So once my magnolia flowers have been placed into the vase
I moved on to the pink bud flowers and I added those as well. I placed those in different areas
throughout the arrangement to make it feel full and lush and then I decided that I needed a few
stems of leaves and I had some of those light green leaves left over. The same ones that we
used on our fireplace mantle. So I'm going to take a couple of these leaves and add them sporadically
to the arrangement that will fill up any vacant spaces but it also adds a beautiful touch of
greenery. And here we go. Look at how huge this arrangement is. It is absolutely stunning and
it's definitely going to be the focal point on this kitchen display. So I'm just going to take
it and place it right onto my marble lazy susan and I'm just moving it off to one side because
we have more decorative pieces that we are going to be adding. The first is this acanthus leaf
statue. This coordinates so nicely with the smaller acanthus leaf statues that we have on
our mini displays. I purchased this at Ross and I gave it a little bit of a makeover. I painted the
base white and I'm looking at the price tag and it was only $8.49. So check out Ross.
They have some good items there. So I'm going to place this right here right off center in front
of the vase and then down in the front I'm going to get my deviled egg plate that I bought at the
thrift store and gave a makeover to. This is going down first and then do you guys remember this white
plate so that we have right up there in our cabinet? Well this is going to be layered right in
the center of our deviled egg plate. So that's going to go right on top and I love the way that
these two pieces coordinate together. They look like pretty little petals which I think is great
for spring and another thing that's great for spring is a spring scented candle. I purchased
this volupsa candle at Anthropologie and it is rose auto. Now typically I think the rose scented
things smell really artificial and not good at all but this candle you guys it smells just like
a rose just like you're sitting in a rose bush. It is absolutely magical. So I'm going to take the
lid off of this candle and the lid is actually going to act as a little bit of a riser. So I'm
going to place that in the center of the plate and then I'm going to take my gorgeous pink rose candle
and place that right on top of the lid and that's it. We're done creating our centerpiece for the
kitchen island. I think it is stunning mainly because of this gorgeous flower arrangement. I mean
what a showstopper. Not only is it large in size but it looks very classy and it is not something
that is going to overtake the kitchen because it has a very light color palette and because we use
these pretty pinks and light colors they coordinate with the flowers that we have on the mantlescape.
It coordinates with the pink and white gingham that we have on our plates and chargers.
It coordinates with our pretty pink candle. We've got a lot of color in this space but it doesn't
necessarily feel like we do because the pink is in a more muted shade. This kitchen was decorated
simplistically but very intentionally and I love the way it looks for this bright time of year.
I have a few other decorative items that I have in this space. The first is a centerpiece for the
breakfast table. I have a beautiful floral arrangement that has flowers in those same
shades of pink and then I have two white ginger jars that are flanking our floral arrangement
and I definitely love how this floral arrangement coordinates with the floral arrangement on the
fireplace mantle and the kitchen. One last teeny tiny little touch that I'm going to add to this
space is a tassel. I found this tassel at Tuesday morning a couple of years ago. The Tuesday morning
that's by my house closed a while ago but before it did I purchased this cute little tassel. It was
only $1.99 and it's got tassels of white and pink and brown and what I'm going to do with this
tassel is just hang it from the knob on my decorative box. This is an easy way to bring in a
color scheme in a very subtle way. So this cute little tassel just adds another touch of pink and
white into this space. It's a fun addition that you can add to a cabinet handle knob in your room.
Well that's it you guys. We are completely finished decorating the kitchen and family room area
for spring. What do you think? I think it looks so fresh and bright. Definitely starting off with
the fireplace mantlescape. Oh it is a showstopper. I walk into this room and my eyes are immediately
drawn over there. It's a design I haven't seen before and it is just fresh and bright with those
white and pink flowers and of course our jumping off point which was those ginger jars. All of the
colors from this entire room stemmed from those jars and then in the kitchen we've got our plates,
we've got our ginger jars, we have our arrangement that coordinates with everything else that we have
in this room. We were able to decorate this space fairly affordably. We were able to take some
Dollar Tree plates and $1.99 chargers and spruce those up so you can do these decorations on a
budget which proves that you can live beautifully and you can do it throughout the changing holidays
and seasons. I hope you enjoyed decorating with me today. I had so much fun transforming these spaces
and we still have a lot of spring decorating coming up so make sure that you are subscribed
so you can get your weekly dose of decorating inspiration. Well, I hope you felt inspired today
to decorate your home affordably for spring. I appreciate you stopping by. Thank you so much for
watching.
