#yulong#chinatravel#Yunnan In this vlog, we’re exploring Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Snow Mountain) National Park just outside Lijiang, Yunnan 🌄 From the unreal turquoise waters of Blue Moon Valley to riding cable cars up to Yak Meadow and the higher reaches of Yulong Snow Mountain, this park seriously surprised us.
We also quickly learned that the altitude here is no joke, so oxygen tanks were a must before heading up 😅 If you’re planning a trip to Lijiang or wondering what Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is actually like, this vlog shows the full experience — cable cars, views, and all.

If I told you that this was Switzerland, you'd probably believe me, right?
Or that this beautiful turquoise lake is in Canada, you'd probably believe that too.
Well, this is neither of those places.
This is China.
We were not expecting this.
How is this even real?
Hey guys, welcome back to our channel.
If you're new here, we're Sansan Eri and we have been living and working in China
for the past year and a half.
Over the next eight days, we're going to be exploring the Yunnan province,
part of China that many of you guys have recommended to us.
And today, we're starting with one of Yunnan's most famous places,
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain National Park.
It's about a 45-minute drive from Lijiang Old Town and 100 RMB per person to enter the park.
The first thing our DD driver asked us is, are we going up the cable car?
And we said, yes.
So she was like, well, do you have an oxygen tank?
And we're like, no.
She's like, you need an oxygen tank or you won't survive on the mountain.
And we were like, what?
So we rushed to chat GPT and chat GPT is like, nah, you'll be fine.
But she insisted we do.
So is it a tourist trap?
Is it the truth?
We don't know, but we got the oxygen.
We don't know how to use it, but we've got it.
So this is something I think you spray or you snap and then this goes along with it.
Yeah, we're curious whether or not you need it.
We will confirm with you.
Yeah, if this vlog is made, you don't need it.
Tourist trap or life survival skills?
Well, we've made it to the tourist center and there's an oxygen store right here.
As we were walking in, we saw a group of like 20 people getting their oxygen tanks ready.
And about, I think 80% of people we've walked past have been holding their oxygen tanks.
So maybe it's not a scam after all, but I guess we'll see.
We're from South Africa.
I feel like we can handle our altitude, but I don't want to jinx it.
So after doing some research, we found out that this is the oxygen
and this is actually a little energy booster supplement thing,
which you're supposed to take before going up the mountain.
And as soon as we arrived, our DD driver told us to have it now
and to not drink any water afterwards for 10 minutes.
It looks like medicine.
Okay, hopefully it doesn't taste like medicine.
It does smell like it a bit.
Oh, yeah, that's not nice.
You guys look how beautiful the views are of the mountain from the tourist center.
Like, oh my gosh, it's stunning.
Anyways, it's around midday now and we're going to make our way to the Blue Moon Valley
because apparently the best time to go is between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
to see the beautiful blue waters.
If you go any later than that, you might miss out on the beautiful turquoise color.
So we're going to head there and then we'll come back to the tourist center later
to make our way up the cable car to see the beautiful snowy mountain.
So apparently it's a quick 15-minute shuttle bus to get to Blue Moon Valley.
So let's go.
So there are many different experiences to have at this national park
but something important to know is that you're gonna have to catch a shuttle bus
between all the places.
Some of them require an hour drive, some are just 15 minutes.
So just take that into account when planning your day.
And also there are queues for the shuttle buses.
So we've just arrived at Blue Moon Valley
and we're going to take a walk along the walkway
to explore all the different parts of the lake because there's different levels.
So let's go.
Blue Moon Valley is one of the most famous spots in Lijiang
because of its stunning turquoise waters
which actually come from glacier melt and minerals from the mountain.
So this lake is actually freaking huge.
There are so many different layers to it.
So there's like one part's a lake over here
and then it goes goes goes and then it turns into a waterfall
and then you continue walking along the bridge
and then there's more lake and then at the end there's another little waterfall.
So it's super beautiful.
This must go over quite a few hundred meters.
It's actually really incredible.
It's definitely very busy though.
Look at all these people.
Wow.
And after spending a few hours at Blue Moon Valley
it's time to head back to the tourist center so we can head to our next activity.
Okay you guys.
So there are multiple different cable car options.
The most impressive one that we are looking for is the Glacier Park Cable Car.
That one is apparently the highest and has the most beautiful views
but there are two other options but we're gonna try find the biggest one.
So let's go.
It's a bit complicated to find but just follow the signs
and if you get lost just ask for help.
They're really friendly here.
And as we are walking to find the cable car
we are realizing the tickets that we got is just for entrance into here
and to obviously go see the Blue Moon Valley
but it doesn't include the cable car so we have to still buy those tickets
and honestly we don't know where to buy them.
So that's where we are trying to go now.
Okay we found the ticket office.
This is the waiting line.
I think we might have to wait quite a while in that line.
It's obviously the most popular cable car
but at least we found where to get our tickets.
Yay.
You guys we are so upset.
All the cable car tickets are sold out for the big impressive Snow Glacier Mountain Cable Car.
It's sold out for the whole of today and the whole of tomorrow and even the next day.
We were so silly.
We really should have booked in advance.
So if you do come here make sure you book in advance
but we're not gonna let it ruin our day.
We've signed up for the backup reservation
and in the meantime we are gonna go on another cable car to the Yap Meadow Mountain.
It's supposed to be super beautiful, less crowded.
We will hopefully still see the snow on the mountains.
So yeah we're not gonna let it ruin our day.
Let's go check it out.
So once we got our tickets we had to go to the Yap Meadow waiting hall
and then catch another bus to get to the cable car.
Okay so it's a 15-minute bus ride to get to the cable car.
On the bus.
Let's hope everything goes uphill from here.
Okay we made it.
It was actually like a 30-minute drive to get here but we're here.
So let's go get the cable car.
Okay let's go.
There we go.
Let's go.
Gotta wait here.
I have to wait on the footprint.
It was very cold.
Okay we had to run on here while it was moving.
It was actually a little bit scary but we're on.
Wow it's very slow.
It's cold.
There's no window.
I must say the views are not much to look at here.
It's a bunch of dead trees.
There's no snowy mountains yet.
Yeah hopefully when we get there it'll be spectacular.
We can see the mountain in the back.
It is coming.
Okay we can start to see the snowy mountains.
It's actually getting really chilly up here now.
So we finally got off the cable car.
We had to literally jump off but we finally made it to the meadow.
It's not too busy which is nice.
There's the snowy mountains.
Great.
There's snow here.
Oh wow.
Okay cool.
So we flew our drone just for like maybe two minutes.
We're a bit too scared because it's really windy here.
We lost signal quite a lot so unfortunately we couldn't fly it for too long.
But we're just enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful snowy mountains.
It's so nice that it's not so busy as well.
You can also buy some tea over here on the mountain if you get cold and thirsty.
Okay so we've made a friend along the way.
What's your name?
Torres.
Nice to meet you and I'm Sonia.
And what do you want to tell our friends?
Enjoy the Yulong Xueshan.
Welcome to Yulong Xueshan guys.
Yay thank you.
Nice to meet you.
You guys.
Okay we're on the bus again.
While we were up at the Yak Header,
we got a notification to say that we got last minute tickets for the Glacier Cable Car.
Yay!
So we didn't even have time to see a yak but we had to rush down immediately
because this is what we came here for.
So we had to cut our time short and we're on the bus on the way to the cable car.
Yay!
We are in line for the Glacier Roadway.
Yeah and everyone is busy inhaling their oxygen.
Every single person here has a tank of oxygen.
We may have thrown ours away earlier in the day when we thought we weren't going up the cable car.
So we don't have any oxygen with us.
So this will be interesting.
Hopefully we're gonna be okay.
Yeah we might have to ask someone around us for a pump.
We're gonna be fine.
Manifesting we don't need the oxygen.
And the lines are very long.
Wow.
Very very busy.
Okay we bought some oxygen.
Luckily they sold along the way.
So we should be safe.
Maybe we'll take a few pumps now.
We should be safe.
We made it past I guess security.
We scanned up to it.
Now we have to catch a bus to get to the cable car.
We're on the bus!
More queues.
Wow.
We made it on the cable car.
It's so beautiful.
And we made it!
Wow.
Look at that.
We are five and a half thousand feet up.
Whoa.
Okay so currently we're 4,506 feet above ground.
I think you have to hike up those stairs to get to the 5,596 mark.
Wow look at these views.
It's stunning you guys.
Wow.
My lips are going blue.
It is Erin.
It's cold.
It's freezing.
Yeah it's very cold.
Someone also told us that if we only have this one can of oxygen we shouldn't go higher.
Because apparently it gets a lot more hectic the higher you go.
And one can of oxygen isn't enough for two people.
So we might not go too high.
So far we're okay.
Not too bad.
I'm getting some photos with the locals.
Beautiful.
Bye bye.
Wow just look at that.
Look at all that snow.
I want to go play in it.
I really just want to go play in the snow.
But I don't think we're allowed to go over this gate.
So we're walking some more.
Yeah.
Can't feel my fingers.
It's so cold.
So we met some friends along the way and we're going to write in their journal for them.
I must say this is the most beautiful mountain view we've ever seen.
And it's so worth it.
It feels like we're in Switzerland.
Really it makes you question are we in China?
Yeah.
Wow it's giving European winter vibes.
And I'm absolutely here for it.
I love it.
And absolutely do bring your oxygen tanks.
Yes.
Can confirm it's not a scam.
Not a tourist trap.
It is in fact a requirement.
Bring your oxygen.
I mean you might be okay without it.
But um.
No you probably won't be.
You probably will need it.
And your lips will still go blue regardless.
So just know that.
That's good stuff.
And lucky us we got to see the sunset on the cable car ride down.
Well that brings us to the end of our day at the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain National Park.
