I usually only go up to 3. I know that, you know, it doesn't go up to 11 or anything.
I am not playing many songs where I need this, at all.
And this is...
Electro Voice in D96.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
What's going on? My name is Matt. I am lead singer for Somersault.
Currently we are on the Reside Tour throughout the U.S.
New record, Reside. And yeah, we're having a lot of fun.
So this is my first electric guitar that I ever got.
And it's stuck with me throughout all my other electric guitars.
So this is a Fender Telecaster, right here.
Originally it was white on white.
And this was the first thing I bought.
I thought it looked like a fried egg.
It's got the pick marks.
I haven't changed any pickups or anything.
It's really just how it came.
Other than little accessories.
I changed the black knobs.
Because I thought it looked cooler with the bridge pickup.
So I changed that stuff.
But all the hardware inside is all the same.
The strings are standard tuning.
They are D'Addario strings.
NYXL.
11 gauge.
And it's like the purple and black pack.
I like to use those.
If I can't use those, I'll use the regular D'Addario strings.
That are 11.
And that's the strings.
As far as the knobs.
I have it all the way turned up most of the time.
And if I'm playing leads where I want to, I'll do that.
Or with the tone.
If I'm playing something that I want to be when I record.
I'll turn the tone down.
But for live shows, I always leave the tone knob up.
And I always leave it in the neck pickup.
Except for when we play our rock songs.
I'll switch it to bridge pickup.
And I don't really ever use that.
It's either or.
Those two.
I like the Tele.
Because the less things I have to think about, the better.
This is a backup guitar.
This was custom.
Custom made.
Same exact thing.
I don't really...
It was so long ago.
So I forget who made this.
Because it was through a friend.
But it was a custom made guitar.
And it's essentially just like a Telecaster.
Single coil.
Got the neck and bridge pickup.
It's missing a little bit of things here.
But I do the same.
It's pretty much the exact same thing with my Tele.
I'll play it the exact same way.
The only other thing is I found this Thunderbird.
And it didn't have a logo.
So I made my own logo.
Sometimes I change things.
But for this tour, I have my Polytune.
Because I just like to strum all my strings.
And see all the strings and what needs tuning right away.
And then I can dial it in each string if I need to.
This is called the Quintessence.
And I just started using this.
It's a harmonizing pedal.
And so you can change the key.
And the scale that you want to harmonize.
If you want to do a third or fifth harmony.
Or some weird stuff.
It can do a lot of things.
So I use this in some solos.
It's really good for songwriting.
This is my distortion overdrive.
When I'm doing leads.
I will just always hit that.
It just gives a little bit of boost.
I don't really use it for anything.
To do any distortion or anything like that.
More just overdrive.
This is called a Choka.
And it's a tremolo.
I am not playing many songs where I need this.
At all.
But I do have a lot in other tours.
Where I've used this for tremolo leads.
I use this as the same TC Electronic.
But this one is the Vibrato.
This is called Tailspin.
I use this a good amount.
Maybe on three or four songs.
Where I want a warble effect.
But it's very slight.
I don't do anything crazy.
With the rate or the depth.
It's all just really really slight.
So just to kind of give a little warble feeling.
This is the Carbon Copy MXR Analog Delay.
I do this in most of my leads.
Just to give a slap back delay.
I never do full on delay parts.
Only for title waves.
But we're not playing that song.
I usually just like slap back delay.
So that's what I use for that.
And the last one.
Is if I do any surf leads.
That I want that kind of wet.
Spring reverb sound.
I use this Topanga Reverb pedal.
And that's pretty much it.
For my pedalboard.
So for my amp.
I use a Deluxe Reverb amp.
I think I've always used that.
And that's mostly.
Except for Sequoia Moon.
This would be.
The amp that we record with.
When I'm playing live shows.
I usually only go up to three.
I know that you know.
It doesn't go up to eleven or anything.
But yeah.
I usually just go right up to three.
And I don't like a lot of treble in my guitar.
And this only has treble bass.
So I have the bass kind of high.
Treble a little low.
Very slight reverb.
Always.
And I don't really use the vibrato.
Since I have more control up front.
And that's that.
And the other thing custom wise is.
For every tour.
I always change.
We all always change.
The color of the grate in the front.
For this tour it's green to match the back.
I usually never go above.
Point seven.
Millimeter.
That's kind of what I like.
And I really like the Dunlop.
The ones that have the grip on it.
Or the Gator Picks.
The ones that have.
They kind of look like they have.
A little bit of like a.
A grain to them or something.
I don't like nylon.
Like the nylon picks or anything slippery.
I like things that feel like they have grip.
So that's what I'll use.
I don't like anything.
Lower than a.
Point five.
Unless I'm doing some like acoustic strumming.
Oh yeah.
For this tour I'm doing a harmonica.
I was given this holder.
When I was eighteen.
Nineteen from a friend that I was.
I went to college with.
And this harmonica is only.
I'm using this in this tour.
Specifically on Can't Give It Up.
Honestly.
I'm so.
I'm so not.
Savvy in the tech world.
With mics.
I know the mics I use at home.
But this is Robbie our engineer.
And he uses these mics.
On our caps.
Alright so this mic is a.
Sennheiser 906.
And then.
This one right here is my vocal mic.
For live shows and this is.
Electro voice in D96.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Yeah so once again.
My name is Matt.
