VGC Academy Tip - High Soft Chip Shot

Interesting shot here. I don't have a ton of stuff in front of me. I've got a little bit
of undulation that I need to be aware of. I'm chipping onto a fairly, I'll call it,
fairly flat surface, but I do need the golf ball to come out high enough to get the distance
that I need to fly the slope. The other option you have, you could putt it from here, that's fine.
I'm going to show you more of the chipping technique that I would use.
And the way that I would actually play this shot, I would use my highest lofted golf club,
which is my 58 degree. I would put the ball position forward in my stance so I can increase
my club head speed through impact, meaning I can actually hit it a little bit faster,
which generates more spin, but I'm actually going to drive the golf ball kind of down and forward.
Okay, so my ball position is just inside my left heel, my weight's on my right side,
club face is open, and I'm just going to chip it forward and drive it down. So that shot there,
you're going to see comes out kind of nice and quietly, pops up in the air,
but still checks when it hits the ground. Okay, so all I did there was, rather than playing a
basic chip shot where it's back in my stance or middle of my stance, ball position was forward,
weight is on my left side, and then I'm a little bit faster through impact just to generate.
So the reason I've actually played that more forward in my stance and open the face up and
try to get it to spin a little bit more is, if I play the same shot here with the ball position
in the middle of my stance, and I hit this golf ball as low as I just hit the last one,
you're actually going to see how this golf ball just runs past the hole,
and I can't get it to stop quick enough. Okay, so what I'm actually trying to do here is,
as I play this shot, me opening the club face and moving the ball position forward
allows me to be a little bit more aggressive with club head speed and still strike it the
way I want to, and that golf ball is now going to check up and finish much closer to the hole.
