Emirates has suspended all flights to and from Dubai International with immediate effect today
on the 16th of March 2026 amid escalating tensions. The temporary flight suspension
comes just a matter of days after a recent scheduled filing provided greater insight
into the limited operations that we should be able to expect across the 15th to the 28th of March
however as I continue to say this was always going to be subject to change.
Given that the Middle East continues to face heightened tensions in an evolving situation
there will always be the risk of temporary suspensions even if it is only for a matter of
hours. Emirates in a written statement thanked travellers for their patience and understanding
during this not the first disruption in March and reaffirmed its stance that the safety of
passengers and crews remain its absolute top priority and it will not under any circumstances
be compromised. The Dubai based carrier advises passengers to continue monitoring feeds closely
for more information about when the suspension will lift there's a chance when you're watching
this that suspension has already lifted. They strongly suggest however that passengers do
not head to the airport to avoid further straining what is already hurting of resources. Emirates is
consistent on and off suspension of service to and from Dubai International all really commenced
on the 28th of February this year when tensions rapidly escalated in the Middle East following
US and Israeli led strikes on Iran conflict occurring and strikes coming back. It made
headlines retaliatory strikes put neighboring regions on high alert and UAE authorities among
others imposed temporary or partial airspace restrictions to preserve the safety of those
flying and on the ground. With the temporary airspace closures airlines such as Emirates
were unable to operate their networks as intended immediately causing delays diversions go-arounds
and ultimately the full halt of Dubai International one of the most important hubs in the world for
long-haul international travel. The initial suspension lasted many days as tensions did not
ease but still slowly but surely the airline in accordance with authorities began ever so specific
repatriation flights to aid passengers on flights that were cancelled initially after the first
strikes hit. However even with the small number of operations that were green-lit cancellations
continued and they would outpace the flights that were operating. Remember that Dubai is a major
international airport not just for short-haul regional connectivity but flights right around
the world to every corner of it thanks to the expansive Emirates network and the many airlines
that also serve Dubai that are feeling the effects of this. You can expect Emirates quarterly results
and therefore annual results to be heavily affected by this and those quarterly results
are probably going to be some of the closest ones to follow in what is a pretty complicated start to
the year. Keen to hear your take on this down below in the comments take care be safe and I'll see you
back here as soon as needed.
