So Kimi, could you just give me a little bit of insight into how crazy your life has been
in these last two weeks since your maiden Grand Prix win?
Yeah, it's been crazy, but I've been enjoying the moment, it's been good fun and at the
same time just moved the focus very quickly onto this weekend because obviously China
was incredible, winning Shanghai was probably the best day of my life so far, but we still
got 20 races left, so just want to keep the momentum going and hopefully we can achieve
something great this weekend as well.
Thank you.
Good luck.
Hi Kimi, congratulations for China.
Can you just talk me through some of the feelings and reactions that you got from friends and
family and yourself as well, reflecting on that amazing moment when you stood on the
podium at the top step?
Yeah, definitely I had a lot of nice messages, a lot of support and definitely coming back
home, seeing my whole family was a great moment, seeing my mum, my sister, obviously my dad
was there with me, but seeing the rest of the family was great and my friends made me
a surprise as well, they actually were at my house when I landed, so it was super nice.
Yeah, and also I took a little bit of time for myself to analyse and realise what happened,
but yeah, it was great, it was a great week, managed to recharge, give it the batteries
and do the preparation ahead of this weekend.
When did you make the switch last week from celebrating and everything that you just told
us about to, okay, we have another weekend in Japan, it will be a very good opportunity
to win again?
Well, definitely I had a couple of days where I enjoyed the moment, but then very soon I
flew to the UK, did a couple of days there, did a simulator and started working already
on Japan, so that was the moment where I said, okay, now it's time to think about
Suzuka because obviously it's really good momentum, the car is super quick, so I just
want to maximise every opportunity.
Qualifying, is that now the focus?
You know, I mean it was kind of made on Saturday, just like George's win in Australia was kind
of made on Saturday?
Yeah, I mean, we know how important qualifying is, even though with these regs it seems like
with the overtake mode you can still have a decent chance, but of course, you know,
you start on pole and a lot of things are easier, so you have free air and everything,
so definitely qualifying is very important and it's going to be a point where it still
needs the most work, but I think China was a good step forward in terms of how I executed
the qualifying despite some issues, so it was good, I was happy with it, but of course
there's still a lot of work to do.
There was a lot of talk about fighting for a first championship after the first win,
so I need you to help me, after how many race wins do you think it's logical to ask you
about fighting for a championship this year?
I think, yeah, I still need to like this season get two, three more, but you know, in a short
term, but of course, you know, I really want to be in this fight, because we have a great
car and great opportunity, of course, still definitely there's one thing that I'm lacking
is experience still, because it's only my second year and experience is something that
you cannot buy, but I'm going to try to be ready for anything and, you know, for every
kind of situation, just to be able to put myself in the best position as possible in
case the opportunity presents, so I know we have a really good car and I'm going to
try to maximise every result and hopefully this weekend is going to be a good one.
