Wait 'til she gains 500 pounds — and meets another horse who wants to kiss and snuggle her all day ❤️🩹
Ron and Melissa told about Lady's astonishing healing journey, and introducing her to another rescued horse, Royal, who felt a strong bond towards her instantly!
Lady’s thriving and it’s all thanks to Twilight Springs Horse Sanctuary 💕 Follow her and Royal’s beautiful friendship on Instagram: https://thedo.do/twilightspringshorse...
She was barely walking off the trailer.
She was four to five hundred pounds underweight.
She hadn't eaten in days.
She was dehydrated.
She was covered in flies, sores all over her body.
The person that was responsible for doing this to her was arrested.
There was over 120 animals on property that they were confiscating.
We picked up our bags, we said we'll be right there.
To see an animal suffering like that, it was devastating.
She was lethargic and depressed.
The vet told us that she was hours, possibly days, away from passing.
We were going to do everything in our power.
It was really sensitive those first few days, trying to get her to eat.
This skin treatment, it was like treating a burn victim.
Every little positive step, getting her to pick her head up,
getting her to move, getting her to eat, made us feel better.
Lady always gravitated towards Ron.
Ron was like her safe place.
He would talk with her, brush her.
Once we knew she wasn't contagious, we let Royal come visit her.
All of the other horses stayed away from her, but Royal.
His mother, she had a similar skin disease.
She was blind and she was really underweight.
We found out that she had a son that survived, and that's Royal.
It took us 18 months to find him.
And we reunited them.
Lady's smell reminded him of her, so he wasn't afraid of her.
He's a protector.
He looks after everyone.
Royal kissed her and was licking her wounds, smelling her and snuggling with her.
He was just trying to comfort her and make her feel safe.
Now she's almost totally healed.
We were able to put on about 500 pounds of weight on her, and that was remarkable.
She went from being the most shy, scared, timid of our horses.
Now she bosses everyone around.
She's spoiled, completely spoiled.
And all of the horses love her.
She gets along with everybody.
The pure joy it brings to give her her scratches.
What we do is a lot of work.
But this journey with Lady has made it all worth it.
