What's up dawg?
What's up bro, it's been years.
Chillin' bro, how you been?
Who's been cutting you up?
EJ.
Oh no ----?
Can't afford you no more dawg.
What do you want to get bro?
You want me to do like a mid fade?
What were you doing to the top?
Just do like scissors on top man.
Just trim it a little bit?
You kind of leave it curly forward?
Yeah kind of just like a little messy look.
Yeah mid fade, drop fade?
Yeah and then I really don't do like edges but I kind of just do like the sides.
The sides?
Yeah just like barely touch them up.
What's going on Fader Culture?
My name is Sergio Barron and we are back with another haircut tutorial.
Today I got my boy Luis here on the chair and I'm gonna show y'all step by step how
to do a mid drop fade and I'm gonna trim the top a little bit.
I hope y'all enjoy this tutorial and let's get right into it.
First I'm gonna go ahead and wet the hair a little bit up top.
Really just to section out the top from the side so I can start my fade work first
before I come and do the top of the sears.
Cheers, sears, sears.
I don't know why I didn't want to roll off my tongue right.
I always do a horseshoe section and I always start right here from where the crown is.
All you're looking for start from the crown area right there to the front part.
Front corner part of his forehead.
All you're looking for is that the hair doesn't bounce back.
So you see right here how it kind of wants to coil back that way.
That means the hair wants to lay that way.
So I'm gonna just keep sectioning the hair until I find a pattern where the hair naturally
wants to lay.
And now once you got that sectioned out you're gonna want to go ahead and open the lever
all the way and lay down your first guideline about right here where the temple peak area
is and then just make sure that line slants as you reach the back to achieve that drop
fade effect.
Then just make sure that line is consistent and it's as even as possible from the front
and back side before moving on.
Just take a quick look at that from the front and back angles before moving on to the next
guideline.
Here you got your one guard lever fully open and this is what we're gonna use to lay down
our next guideline.
For this one just come up about a half inch from that previous guideline and then just
ensure that it's running parallel to that previous line.
Take your time.
You don't want to press the clipper really hard on the head or nothing like that.
Just think of it as if you're massaging the scalp with the clipper in a soft, not too
soft, not too hard.
After that we're gonna go ahead and throw on the one and a half guard.
Still leave that lever fully open and here we're not so much focused on setting the guideline
but you see that line right here?
We're gonna try to connect that to the top length of the hair already.
So you want to stay under this vote that he had right here.
So you're only moving up and down about a quarter inch to a half inch and you're just
trying to soften up that top line that was there.
All you're doing is trying to connect the side length to the top.
So just move up and down a little bit at a time.
Every guard is usually about a quarter to a half inch in space that you're moving up
and down.
And next I would normally use a number two with the lever open.
Here his hair was already fairly short so it's not gonna do much but I'm still doing
to show you what I would do next.
I would just move up like I said about a half inch in space still trying to stay under that
bulk up there.
Then just do that all the way around.
And now we're gonna throw on the half guard with the lever positioned at three fourths.
That lever is positioned in between halfway and fully open.
That's your three fourth spot and we're gonna start blending out that guideline that we
said.
Again guys we're only moving up and down barely crossing that guideline.
As you see here I'm just starting right before it and finishing right after it.
Moving up about a quarter inch in space trying to blend out that line as smooth as possible.
Now it is gonna take two guards to take out.
But right now like I said just start blending it out as much as possible and whatever it
leaves behind or right above we're gonna come in with the higher guard to finish blending
it out.
So all those dark areas that are left behind that you see here I'm gonna go ahead and throw
on the number one guard still leaving that lever on that three fourth spot and those
areas we're gonna attack them a little bit at a time until we smooth them out as much
as possible.
Again guys just use soft strokes to get that line blended out.
You gotta use your intuition and just think in your head how you want that blend to look
and just try to achieve it as much as possible.
Now from here you see this bottom bulk right here that's around the where it starts that's
around the area that you're gonna use your trimmers to lay down your next guideline.
I'm cutting in right under the top of that bulk if that makes sense.
You see how it's a little dark it's kind of like a dark line that's kind of the area
where I'm setting in this guideline.
All right guys this is a special broadcast interruption just to let y'all know that this
video is sponsored by Faded Culture.
Make sure y'all check out our website at fadedculture.com because we did just drop this
brand new shirt.
Faded Culture right here on the left side of the shirt in the front print in the back
with the trademark number.
And also guys if y'all like to join our inner circle make sure y'all text to this number
that way I can be a part of the inner circle and y'all can get access to a bunch of pre-releases
and a bunch of cool stuff that we're gonna that we plan on dropping via SMS messaging.
So with that being said let's just get back into the tutorial.
All right guys now this line right here that we just laid down we typically always take
it out with either three or four lever positions.
I kind of gauge it as I go through the process and I always break it down into small sections
as well just because it does take three or four lever positions.
So first I'm gonna just focus from right here from the ear to the temple area.
I'm gonna start with the clipper lever fully closed and then like I said I'll gauge my
way as I move up on that blend.
So then after that I'm gonna go ahead open the lever to the halfway spot and then just
continue blending a tad bit higher than where we were previously.
And then I'll open the lever fully open to finish blending it out.
By this point you should see that it's barely anything that you're gonna be doing.
So so yeah guys three lever positions to blend out this last line.
First starting with it closed then halfway and then fully open.
And like I said I'm only working at small sections at a time about like two to three
inches in in width of a space that I'm working.
And then just repeating that those same steps until I go all around the head and that first
initial guideline is blended out all the way throughout the whole fade.
And now here you see any little touch-up areas we can just assess those come back.
For him I used the half clip lever at three fourths and then I just took a step back and
kind of looked for those dark areas that I noticed and then just detail them out using
the corner of the clipper to smooth out the blend as much as possible.
But once you're done there we could proceed with blending out or taking out the rest of
the bottom of the hair.
So you see here before you get to the top of the bottom of the hair I like to flare
out with the trimmer just to leave another guideline for us so we know how high to come
up with the electric shaver.
I always like to work with guidelines guys just because it's just mapped out better for
you and you're not lost when you're doing these fades.
So now here with the electric shaver as soon as I reach that little faint line that we
left behind I just make sure that I release pressure on the trimmer I mean on the shaver
so that I don't create any hard lines into the fade.
You're trying to blend out or take out the bottom of the hair as bald as possible without
creating hard lines again.
But if you do happen to create a little dark line just go ahead and with your trimmer blend
it right back out.
All right guys so now that we're done with the fade on the side I'm gonna go ahead and
start trimming the beard and then fading it down as well.
For the beard he wanted a number four so I'm gonna go ahead throw on the four guard make
sure the lever is closed all the way on the clipper and then run that through the beard
until we get a nice and even cut.
And when you're fading down the beard guys you're doing the exact same steps that we
used on the fade except you're going down.
So again just start with the half that's the clipper with the lever open and then the one
guard lever fully open the one and a half guard fully open and then just come back and
detail those two guidelines that were left behind.
Remember that bulk that we had left right here I'm gonna go ahead and quickly blend
that into the fade before moving on and cutting the rest of the top.
All right guys and we did just restock on our shears you can go ahead and find these
at fadedculture.com along with the rest of our stuff we do have the clay our shade gel
and all that stuff but the shear does come with this leather pouch it comes with the
thinning shear and the six inch cutting shear and it also comes with the faded culture card
and the tension tool fadedculture.com guys.
But yeah and the tension tool the general rule of thumb is you hold one side of your
shear when you let it go it shouldn't do that so you're gonna tighten it and basically when
you let it go it should stop like about right here that's when you know you have pretty
good tension.
I'll grab my tension screw and I'm gonna screw off to the right right there that's
pretty good tension.
And here guys just grabbing a small section at a time but make sure that you don't incline
your fingers into the head you want to make sure you bring your fingers out as you see
here as if his head was a square shape that way you're not cutting off too much length
from the top of his hair.
And then once all you're doing is moving up about a finger width of a section at a
time angle out your fingers and proceed with cutting.
And also guys all the steps to our fading techniques will be listed down in the description
so y'all can see them in written format so y'all can follow along that way.
Also we have links to all the tools and products that we use.
Now here I'm gonna go ahead and section out my profile section down the middle just
to determine how much I will be trimming off the top.
He only wanted a small trim so here I'm just following the shape of his head
pulling out that first section and then just going ahead and giving it a small little trim
and then every time you drop that section and pick up the next section just make sure
you pick up a little bit of that previous section so you have a guide of how much to
cut and then just follow that along all throughout the middle towards the back.
And now you have that now that you have your profile section cut out now all you gotta
do is match up the rest of the length to that section.
So here I start from the back grab a small section about a finger in width
at a time and then when I pull it up here you see in the middle that small section
that was cut that's all we're doing guys is matching up the left and right panels
to that middle section.
So first I like to come down the middle make sure that I'm cutting everything
even to that profile section and then once I reach the front I'm gonna go ahead and start
again from the back but this time on the right side of the hair.
And again guys we're just following the shape of his head that's the angle that we're
pulling out to.
And also guys when you're cutting the top try not to be sticking your thumb in all the
way like you as you see here because that's gonna cause stress on your hand just make
this is all you gotta be doing and that's why these scissors have that little bevel
so that you don't have to stick your thumb all the way into the shear.
You're just using the tip of the shear and then just opening and closing using the tip
of your finger.
You're always gonna want to find ways to make your job easier and ways to work more
efficient just to relieve stress on the body and save time.
But now from here guys like he said in the beginning of the tutorial he didn't want
a full edge up so I just quickly came in with my trimmer and started detailing just the
sides of the edge up and then I went ahead and started detailing any facial hair areas
that I will be shaving.
So really just anything that hanged over his upper lip and then I started detailing his
bottom facial hair.
The bottom facial hair is always gonna be preference as to how high to come up on that
neckline but typically when it's a long beard the lower you go and when it's short
beard the higher you go.
But like I said it's always gonna be preference so just get with your client to make sure
y'all achieve the look he's going for.
And here before doing any shaving I'm gonna use some of our Faded Culture shaving gel
guys y'all can find this at fadedculture.com as well as with our Turkish razor and razor
blades.
Here I'm inserting the razor blade at the exposure that I want to before starting my
shave.
And then I always tug with the opposite hand on the skin to create that tension and better
help that razor slide with ease.
And always make sure that you're aware of the growth pattern of the hair so that you
can shave with the hair growth and not against it.
That's always gonna help with preventing any kind of razor bumps or irritation.
And here on top of the cheek guys I always shave down on the line where I want the line
to be and then I'll give it a second pass just to get that line as sharp as possible.
And then from there I'll go ahead and come back and underhand shave the rest of the cheek
hair just to get a much closer shave to the skin so that it lasts a little longer.
And by the way guys for those that have been watching thus far I'm gonna go ahead and
gift somebody or a random winner a shaving set.
I'm gonna give y'all a shaving gel, a pack of our razors, and a Turkish razor or a swing
lock razor of your choice.
So all you gotta do is comment on this video.
I guess you could just comment the razor that you want.
Just comment Turkish or comment swing lock and I'll go ahead and pick a random winner
and send y'all a set.
And then once you're done with the lineup this part is optional.
If you want to add enhancements just mix equal parts of hair dye with water in an air compressor
and then just lightly apply them onto the edges.
And then before applying my product I wet the hair and then just grab a small amount
onto your fingertips and really work it into the root and throughout the whole hair really
well before applying or doing your blow drying process.
I always start the blow dryer at medium heat, medium airflow.
Here I threw in the diffuser just so that I don't straighten out the hair and help bring
those curls back in.
And then once you're about 100% or close to like really being dry just switch it to that
cool shot setting just to really lock in the hairstyle.
And here I'm doing some finishing touches but here's the before and here's the after
guys.
Alright guys so that's pretty much it for this haircut tutorial on a mid-skin fade.
If y'all made it this far I'm gonna go ahead and do another giveaway.
First person that screenshots this video and shares it on Instagrams and tags me I'm gonna
go ahead and send y'all a free Faded Culture cap.
So make sure y'all are following me on Instagram and the Faded Culture page and I'm gonna go
ahead and DM you and go ahead and ask for your details so we can send you that cap.
Again guys thank y'all so much for watching.
My name is Sergio Barron, this is Faded Culture and I'm gonna catch y'all in the next video.
Peace.
