How to compare or switch between two Fat Channel settings when using the Link button with two channels.
Welcome to my series on the Presonus StudioLive 1602 Digital Mixer.
What we're going to talk about here is how to take advantage of the copy channel
using your fat channel. So if you're doing a show
and you have channel one selected here and you set up your fat channel
the way you like it, then you go to channel two
and you set up the fat channel for channel two.
Now you may know ahead of time that you're going to use these
one and two in stereo and link them. But you can play with two different
settings with your fat channel and compare them with each other or even
completely different situations that you can switch to later.
So if I go to set those two channels up just slightly different, I can
AB them against each other when I link them. So I can be on channel one,
select, hit link, and what happens inside the
machine is channel one is copied. All of the fat
channel settings are copied to channel two
so that they're identical because they're linked.
And you can listen to that for a while and see what you think about it.
Then undo the link and select channel two and then
relink them. Now because you had channel two selected
all of the fat channel for channel two is going to be copied to channel one.
So you can just push a couple buttons and check a completely different setup
between the two channels. And if you are slick
you could even make minor adjustments doing this
switching mode between the two EQs. I don't think anybody's ever done live
sound has realized that it's going to sound
different later in the show because of humidities and all kinds of people
showing up and all these things that affect sound.
So you might have a little bit higher EQ
settings for later in the show and you could just flip them by going
to channel two and hit link and now you got a whole different setup going on for
this channel. Or they might have more than one
instrument that they're playing like two different
acoustic guitars and one could be EQed for
a Gibson and another one could be EQed for a Martin or a Taylor.
There are lots of things that can come into play with this with experience.
That's how you can use the select and stereo mode link button
and bounce back and forth between two completely different setups.
