On today's episode of WatchJargo, we are back in the shop with my new-to-me 2017 Bentley
Bentayga W12 First Edition.
And many of you have probably been wondering why we haven't been working on it, right?
I bought this and a lot of things were broken.
We were going to fix them all.
Well, things have gotten significantly worse.
What is going on guys?
I am WatchJargo and today, like I said, we are back in the shop with my Bentley Bentayga
that I just picked up for the incredibly cheap.
It was the cheapest one I could find on Mannheim, $60,000 and change, Bentayga.
I bought this because it is untouchable value for your money.
There is probably no other car in the world that comes close.
But things went wrong on the drive home.
I bought it because it was flawless and, you know, I went to pick it up and I checked engine
lights on.
And then by the time I was halfway across the country in Atlanta, the air suspension
freaked out.
We had the yellow suspension light, then we had the red stop driving the car suspension
light.
And what else?
I mean, there was like a whole list of things that went wrong just on the way home.
And then things got even worse.
So I took the beautiful Bentayga over to the barber shop and we detailed it.
It's been driven a bit since then.
But we had this thing looking very, very, very clean.
The one thing we haven't done yet is remove the PPF.
And I honestly think we're going to have to because it just looks so bad, right?
You can see the black paint is beautiful, but the PPF, not so beautiful, quite a bit
less beautiful there.
And mostly only on the hood where the sun beaded up.
But other than that, we got to get the PPF off.
It was super, super clean there for a bit.
And the day or the day after we detailed the Bentayga, I was backing out of a parking spot
and a car swooped in behind me and this thing was beeping, but it's literally always beeping.
It never shuts up with its parking sensors.
It's super annoying, right?
Because it has a million of them.
It has the side ones.
If somebody walks by, they start going off.
I didn't see it and I got into my first accident.
That's right.
I pulled a Hoovy Gullwing and I wrecked the Bentayga.
Now it's pretty obvious that I wrecked the Bentayga.
That is not the crazy part of this accident, right?
Really accident, no big deal.
It's a bunch of broken plastic, this bumper.
It's not even like a poly.
This is just straight up the most fragile plastic you've ever seen in your life.
Listen to that.
First of all, I don't know why it's not a plastic that bends a little bit like all the
other car bumpers are, the ones that you can just pull out of a box and unfold.
But yeah, it's a straight up molded plastic and sure some things broke, but nothing important
is broken here.
The exhaust didn't even flinch, right?
All the sensors, all the lights, everything's perfect.
We didn't hit any parking sensors.
We didn't mess up the reverse light.
We didn't really mess up anything insane, at least not that we know of, but look, the
gaps are still looking good over here and yes, it did ruin the hatch and the hatch is
going to have to be repainted.
These are nasty deep, like all the way through the paint right there.
It's not just a buff.
The hatch is going to have to be at least blended, but probably fully painted and these
body lines here aren't bad.
So I had a few people look at this, just friends that are in the body shop game and they all
kind of looked at this.
I was like, guess, guess, guess what the quote is to fix this?
And they're like, uh, seven, eight grand, right?
Bumper, paint, patch, all that fun stuff and nothing serious looks broken, seven, eight
grand.
Well, that is not the reality of fixing your Bentley.
This one simple accident, the first one I've had in 20 years personally, $40,000 basically.
This thing's total, it's fully beyond totaled.
Is that not insane guys?
This little hole in the bumper right here, I'll tell you, this is what totals your Bentley.
I went back and picked up the plastic.
That's $40,000.
Okay.
Now that total does include like some supplemental work that's not on there yet.
They haven't decided if that's all going to be billed out, but we didn't even break the
taillights like it's in such good shape.
That's what's crazy.
Everything works.
Look, not even a flinch, nothing's messed up.
It's literally a broken bumper.
Okay.
Let's go ahead and close the hatch here.
That's going to have to come off here shortly, but basically this bumper is nearly impossible
to get.
It has to come from, I think they quoted it from Bentley of Denver.
It's going to cost like nearly 10 or 15,000.
These are two separate pieces here.
This is a lower and then this is an upper bumper and they're both going to be replaced
because they are both cracked.
So that was like an outrageous amount, more than anybody would ever expect.
And apparently Bentley parts availability in general is very, very bad.
And that seems true because I think it might need brakes and you cannot buy these brakes.
Literally nobody has them.
I think this is the rear radar right here.
There's no damage there, but what they do think could be damaged is there is a metal
bracket that goes between these two, not the aluminum.
You can see the aluminum one right there.
It's perfect.
Absolutely perfect.
And that's one of the bumper supports, but I guess there's a sheet metal frame in there
that's $1,500.
So your Bentley repair costs apparently add up to insane astronomical numbers in just
moments.
And it's all parts availability and the fact that they're Bentley parts.
It's not like an outrageous repair or something, you know, any shade tree body shop couldn't
get fixed.
It's just expensive parts.
That's what it all comes down to.
And the car is very broken and I can't wait to work on it with you guys.
It's saying oil change due, which we knew that was going to happen.
So I'd love to be doing the service right now.
I'd love to be pulling the PPF off.
The air suspension is very broken and we do have a plan for that.
But all of this is just kind of waiting for the back bumper to get fixed.
And I think now we're waiting on the body shop schedule.
I do know they have the parts and this should be fixed within like the next week or something
like that.
And we can get back to work on this monster of an SUV because it's so enjoyable to drive.
I just don't want to drive it around with a giant hole in the back of it.
I know my fault.
I feel bad for the other people too.
Insurance is making them whole.
Of course, we did claim it because even if I could repair this, I have to make sure that
the people that I backed into get taken care of too.
So that's how my Bentley ownership experience is going here.
And the brakes are squealing when we come to a stop here.
So we're trying to figure out what the game plan is there.
There's quite the lip on these brakes here.
So I think it's maybe rotor time and it's at least pad time.
But the wear sensors haven't hit yet.
So they're not actually gone.
It's just an annoying screech.
You can see how dusty these things are too.
It can't have more than 100 miles on it since we detailed it.
And like look at the brake dust.
It's insane.
Next time I'll use a rag before I get covered in brake dust.
But yeah, this is absolutely crazy how much brake dust those things throw off of there.
And they make an outrageous amount of noise when you're coming to a stop.
They always have.
If you get into the brakes hard, it'll shut up and then you can back off.
But you can't just ease onto the brakes unless you want everybody to be like, look at that
broken car.
That is part of the ownership experience of owning a Hooptie Bentayga.
So we'll get that one sorted out.
It may just be pulling the pads and spraying them down with disc brake quiet and then putting
them back in, which very possible.
I do need to get some light in there and actually check on the pad thickness.
I just know that it hasn't hit the wear sensors and this thing does have wear sensors on each
side of the front and one in the back.
So there are a lot of them.
If the brake pads were done, the light would be going off inside and it's not.
This PPF down here is peeling and I, of course, I didn't notice that when I was picking this
thing up, but now it's like, like I was saying, it is time to take the PPF off.
I'm thinking I shouldn't have done that.
It looks, I can't tell if that's clear or if it's paint coming off.
I might've been being stupid, but you guys, I just wanted to do this with you.
I wanted you to experience the lower front bumper PPF removal here.
If I get some heat on here, we can probably do this without peeling up any of the paint,
which would be a disaster.
But hey, the car is going in for paint, so it's not the worst time for it to happen.
I could probably have them add a little lower bumper repaint on, but honestly, everything,
everything here is PPF and it all has to come off.
But this definitely has to come off because it's actively peeling.
It looks really bad.
Let's just jump in here and do a little peeling.
I also have to unwrap the gold wing.
That's on the list for this week.
I was going to bring over the big infrared heat lamps and get busy on that.
This is such nice PPF.
I think it was all expel on this car, which would make sense, right?
You know, the owner, the clientele, they would have been expel people.
They always are when they have money to spend on their cars.
I know some people have different opinions, but I'm a big expel fan personally, so I think
if you can do it, it is the move.
And what would be really cool is if we rewrap this and expel stealth.
So we had a full matte Bentayga.
That would be very sweet.
Ooh, look at that.
It's all perfect underneath.
It did its job.
The paint looks incredible, incredible.
Rock chips are peeling off right now and underneath we just have glossy black paint.
I feel bad.
I bet this thing has to go sit outside once it gets to the body shop, but you know, it
needed to be done.
Ooh, scariest thing that could ever happen to you.
When you hear that noise, sometimes it's the actual paint coming off.
All right, that's the line they stopped at right there.
It doesn't wrap any further under.
It's unfortunate.
This is ceramic coated, sealed.
It's in such good shape and maybe the real answer here was just to trim this with a razor
blade and then stick it back down because it doesn't all need to come off.
That's for sure.
The hood is the thing that needs to come off.
That's the most important, but these nasty areas do have to get off of there.
But the nasty areas did need peeled up too.
Let's try it y'all.
This is the PPF repair studio right here.
So we're going to go ahead and peel that until we have a nice little angle and we'll take
our razor blade, see if we can get a little puncture.
There we go.
All right.
If you do that with a really sharp razor blade, it'll make sure you don't have any issues
down the road.
Okay.
It looks like a weird, dirty line on the car.
It does not look like a strange PPF installation.
See what I'm saying?
This is the edge.
It just looks like dirt or water pouring down it.
Honestly, I should probably just peel all the PPF.
You can always tell there's like a hue difference between PPF protected, especially black and
standard black paint.
So once I have the infrared over here or we get another really hot day, I'll probably
go ahead and peel the hood for sure.
The hood looks terrible and everybody is worried that it baked the paint underneath and the
paint might come off.
So it would be good to get all this done before it gets over to the body shop.
So I got a couple of days to wrap that up, but I really made this video to show you guys
the wreck and the astronomical cost of repairing this thing if something goes wrong, literally
like it's nearly the price of the car.
So super totaled, fully totaled.
So there you go.
That's what a $40,000 accident looks like on your Bentayga.
It's absolutely mind blowing.
I also thought it would just be a handful, a couple thousand dollars, but you know, as
soon as you hit two panels, that is a lot of painting.
So there is a little paint action that needs to happen and then I don't know how far they're
going to go.
Maybe it's just a simple blend all the way up through here.
But while we were detailing it, we found out there were rock chips, right?
It's more focused, but there's a touch of paint right there and right there and right
there and that's about it.
But you know, if the whole panel got painted, that wouldn't be bad.
It wouldn't be the worst thing that ever happened to the Bentayga.
It's not a lot of square footage here.
It's just from here to here instead of from here to whatever a blend line would be on
that.
Crazy.
So we've got this problem added to the list service due as soon as it gets back, I'm going
to get it on the lift.
We'll change the oil, change the oil filter.
And of course this air shock is also on the list, but I found out on the air shock, it's
going to have to sit for about a week completely apart, which takes out my room to work in
here for the most part.
Because you have to drop the air shock, cheap to rebuild, super economical, but you have
to ship it out and wait for them to fix it and then put it back on.
So if we let the car sit here for like 30 more minutes, you'll start seeing immediately
that it doesn't sit level anymore.
It might be, it looks pretty level right now, but it'll just start to do this just a bit.
And then after two or three days, the whole front end will just sit down.
On the flip side though, I got some very, very good news under the hood.
First of all, the word on the street is the W12 is actually reliable, apparently way better
than the V8.
So you would think the V8 would be the reliable one, but I guess Audi's V8 is a bit of a problem
child here.
It's twin turbo, hot V8, Mercedes knows how to make one that's bulletproof and everyone
else seems to make one that's pretty solid.
But apparently the V8 in these is not that reliable.
And the W12 apparently is supposed to be very reliable.
And you guys know, I was very worried about this engine because valve cover leaks.
And then I heard back from Scudi Aeroparts and they were like, there is no valve cover
gasket available.
We're pretty sure it's RTV'd on.
And then all of this was confirmed by my good friends over at Oaks Performance Solutions.
I'll throw a link to their YouTube channel down below.
They're building race cars out of these, doing like 700 plus horsepower, custom exhausts
that are absolutely wild.
So I'd love to do a lot of that to this Bentayga once we get everything else sorted out here,
which shouldn't be too much longer.
But they also told me that the oil leak that's all over the driver valve cover is actually
something, it's like a 15 cent part, maybe even less money.
So right here is where you fill the oil on your Bentayga and everybody wants to know
is this metal?
And I don't think it is.
It's very, very heavy, but I don't think it's metal.
What can we bang it on?
Okay, that's metal.
This is just, it's not metal.
I don't think it is.
It weighs a lot.
But the oil fill here is remote because the engine is like all the way over here.
So if you look, there's a radiator hose basically coming off the back of that.
That radiator hose goes down about six inches and then goes into the top of the valve cover.
Apparently the O-ring where it goes into the top of the valve cover is a TSB, super common
failure on these engines.
And once you get on the throttle, oil will splash back out through the failed O-ring
and get all over the driver valve cover.
So that was my problem.
Literally just a failed O-ring.
Now you can try to approximate the O-ring that's in there, slap that on there and maybe
fix the problem.
But the word on the street is it's not actually going to fix it for you.
You do need to replace the remote oil fill and it's $170, which is like cheaper than
valve cover gaskets for a W12.
So I'm mind blown.
That is an awesome fix.
That is coming up.
We're going to do a video on that when we do a lot of the other service on this car.
So very soon we'll be replacing old remote oil fill right here and no more oil smell
after making a pull or anything like that.
So that was on the list and I'm very excited about it.
It sure is a lot better than having to RTV on those giant valve covers.
So there you go.
That's the update on my newly wrecked Bentley Bentayga.
I know it's painful, but these things happen in life.
Every once in a while you screw up.
I took it over to Hubie's and everybody laughed and were like, Hey, you pulled a goal wing.
Yeah.
I mean, we all have to do it some point or another.
So this was unfortunate.
I thought about not even making the video, but now like, whatever, it's just a giant
piece of plastic and apparently new plastic just bolts on a little bit of paint back on
the road.
So for those of you that were waiting on an update on this, how's it going?
Have I gone bankrupt yet?
I haven't quite gone bankrupt yet.
There's still a great possibility that I will after owning this for a little while, but
at the same time is a pretty rewarding car to own.
And it's got an incredible system, great seats, and it looks great.
I love the way these look.
I don't know anybody that doesn't think they look super, super classy.
It is.
It's the super SUV.
Anyway, that's my Bentayga plus an extra hole.
And very soon after two weeks, three weeks, we'll have this thing back in the shop and
we'll get busy on the suspension, which seems like a fun job.
And while it's on the lift for the suspension, we'll do all of the other stuff to get it
sorted out oil and service wise.
So that is it for today, guys.
Thank you so much for watching.
If you're planning on buying one of these, maybe don't, you know, I've been saying all
along that you probably shouldn't buy one of these, but maybe you should.
They're crazy cheap.
It's unbelievable that they were $305,000 and you can get them in the 60s.
So that is it for today, guys.
Thank you so much for watching.
Don't forget to head on over to shopwatchjr.com for cool shirts just like this.
And please like, share, subscribe, do whatever you want to do.
And I will talk to you next time.
Still, every time you fire this thing up, it is absolutely incredible.
And it makes a lot of noise.
Also, the TPMS light just won't shut off even after airing all the tires up.
I aired them up to the crazy pressures this thing wants, which is way higher than what
it says on the door.
You know, it's looking for the pressures that you have it set to for the speed.
And apparently, if it's like one PSI off, this thing throws a fit.
It's kind of ridiculous.
Listen to how bad this is.
This is like generally anytime you're maneuvering in this car, you're just getting bombarded
by the parking sensors.
The entire way in and out of my garage, different parking sensors too.
It's insane.
Cameras matter.
Parking sensors do not.
And unfortunately, this thing actually has bad cameras.
