That bolts off the axles. I don't know what that's about.
Yeah, it don't have a blower does it? A turbo? Are you kidding me? I'll fall down buddy.
Hey everybody, welcome to Hamiltonville Farm. Dad and Wiley have done some crazy things in
their videos. In today's episode, they work on a piece of equipment that is probably my favorite.
Stick around and let's see what they get into. How about you? I'm Hank. Welcome to Hamiltonville
Farm. We're going to run meet Wiley this morning. He's got a truck that he's found on Marketplace.
So we're going to go check it out, see if the description is accurate. We're going to go see
if it runs. We're going to see, you know, sometimes you look at descriptions and you look at things on
Marketplace and you think to yourself, well, is it as accurate as the seller is describing? Well,
we're going to check that today in this video. So y'all come go with us.
Oh, it's a little chilly this morning. 47 degrees. Yeah, my northern, our Yankee friends are like,
really? 40 degrees, 47 degrees Fahrenheit. What's that Celsius? Yeah, but we were at 88 yesterday.
And so when you wake up at 40, it's... Listen, it goes from 88 to 40 like it's all state trooper.
You know what I mean? True that. All right, let's go find it. We're about 20 minutes away. You want
to get started? Yeah. All right, finally made it over here to Wiley's. What's up, buddy? Hey,
good morning. Doing all right? Yeah, especially after that hearty breakfast you fed me. Yeah,
sometimes this can't be the good biscuit. I don't think we're going to get lunch today, are we?
Man, we always find time for lunch, you know. You forget your wallet, something's happening.
Something's going to happen. No breakfast and lunch same day, that's impossible.
We, I was talking to Wiley earlier, it's like, you know, our friends up north, we eat like oatmeal
and sausage and eggs and stuff, but like our northern friends, Yankees up north, you guys do
cream of wheat type stuff and some other things. What about the guys across the pond? What do you
guys like to do for breakfast? I know a lot of you guys eat like scones and things like that.
It's funny how different areas have different things to eat, but that's not why we're here.
We're here to talk about this truck. So why are we here? A buddy of mine's trying to sell his
dump truck on Marketplace, and I told him we'd come out here and get it started. Naturally,
it don't have batteries, so that's what we fit in, I guess. Yeah, yeah. I believe it's L8000,
he probably just had a hood damaged and put a 9000 hood on it. Right. Because the axles aren't big
enough to be a 9000, so I believe it's 8000. Probably got a Caddy in it. Okay. Pretty sure
it does, might not. Maybe a Cummins. It does have a Cummins. Yeah, it may have a Cummins in it. That
might be a 9000. Yeah, so we'll take a look, we'll raise the heat. We'll shoot. So the whole, the
reason what we're doing is, we're actually going to, he's got it on Facebook Marketplace,
and the link to the Facebook Marketplace ad is in the video description. So a lot of times,
people will be like, hey, how do you find these? What do you do with them afterwards?
Well, in this particular case, it's on Facebook Marketplace. The link is in the description,
so if you're watching your phone sideways, turn it vertical, and you're going to see a description
underneath the video. We'll take that description, open it up, and it'll have a link to
this Facebook Marketplace advertisement, and it'll tell you the guy's phone number, the asking price,
everything is included in that description. So, you know, so don't make a comment, or you can if
you want to, but a lot of people will make comments saying how much he want for it, or how, you know,
where, what, you know. Probably not a phone number, probably Messenger, probably contacting
through Messenger. Yeah, through Facebook Messenger, whatever's on the ad, whatever's on
Facebook Marketplace ad, hit them up there, and then go from there. We're just, we're not even
middlemen in this one, are we? Yeah, we're just showing you what he's got. So let's take a look
at it. Let's see how accurate the description is. Let's get it cranked up for you. Let's get the bed
dumped for you, and heck, who knows? It's located in Andalusia, Alabama. That's where we're at this
morning. We're a long way from home, but, you know, it's like I said, it's a buddy of yours,
so. Could be River Falls address. It could be. Suburb of Andalusia. Suburbs. Andalusia have suburbs.
Okay, so let's get this thing, let's see exactly what's, what's going on with the old L8
slash 9000. Yeah, we just got that L8500. That's good. All right, Wiley, the, it's got the nice
Halloween paint job on it. Yeah. The old candy corn stuff there. Can't beat that. You can't beat
that. Got a rattle can, uh, the old Craigslist makeover there. He was getting started, and he
put some expensive, uh, tape on it. That stuff ain't cheap, is it? Left us a hammer to beat the
hammer, uh, to beat the battery terminals with. Yeah. So that's always a good thing. Kill the
snakes. Left the window down. That's why. Missing a, missing a grab handle. Now you know why the
window's down. Oh, yeah. Well, this is chained up here. Don't fall down, buddy.
Seriously, I literally just said don't fall down. You finally, uh, uh, uh, uh, my leg ain't up.
And then I shut the door again. Oh, Lord have mercy. Wiley, you all right, dude? Yeah. All right.
If you show out, I'm on. No, we're showing it.
Is it a Christology? Oh, man. No, it's China. Look at there, Wiley. That's Christology? Nice
drop forward steel. You, you fell, and it ain't even a Christology you fell for, you know? You
all right? Yeah. Quit touching me. I don't have worker's comp, Wiley. Well, you about to.
So you, so you won't see Wiley in videos for the next month or so because he's
recuperating. Being full body cast.
Uh, so it's a 1984, uh, September of nine, uh, 84, 44,800 pounds on the front axles,
10.8, um, rims are 27.5, so 85. Um, there you go. 17,000 pounds on the back. The VIN number
one, Foxtrot Delta Yankee uniform nine zero whiskey two Foxtrot Victor alpha zero six three
one one. So there's your, your VIN number. I'll try to focus that and that way you can
look up the VIN number. Let's take a look at the frame. It does have air brakes. Here's the
leaf pack. Let's see what the hinges look like. Trying to give you guys the best, best look here.
I think it said in the description that it had an air assist back door. So which is what these
would be. Not too bad on the back door there. Let me show you the backside, the underside here.
All right. That's okay. Looking good underneath Wiley. Yeah. Yeah. All right.
Let's take a look at this side and then I'll climb up there.
I'll climb up there and see what the inside of the bed looks like, you know?
Yes, ma'am. Do y'all have no workplace injuries?
Wiley's on the phone with the insurance company. Yeah. Could you connect him to me, please?
Thank you. I got it on video. Yes. You can see him definitely go up there and trip me and make
me fall. Golly. Oh, man. Let's see here. What's that? There was two brand new bucket trucks
while they headed to Power South. Did you see the Hummer stretch limos that passed us
on the way here? I didn't notice it. Yeah. There was two limos that were stretch Hummers.
Pretty funny. All right. Let me crawl up here, Wiley, and see what that... Yeah. Check the bed
out. Yeah. Let me check the bed out here. Oh, it's got a... Is that a rubber liner?
It might have a mat on it, Hank. Yeah. It's got a mat on it for sure.
I mean, for sure it does. I didn't know if it was rubber or what, but...
That's what the bed... Is it like one big one in there?
Yeah. I don't know. I'm not much about what that is. I'm just...
I don't know what it looks like under the mat. He probably got some holes in it and
keep the mat from the sand to go out. Yeah. I don't know what... Oh, yeah. He's got some
rust spots in it. Yeah. All right. Well, let's get the... Here's what the top of the roof looks like.
That's like putting makeup on, ain't it? Right.
Let's see what the power plant looks like, Wiley. All right.
Yeah, for sure it is. Indeed, it is. Yeah, this is L9000. I think an L8000 would have had a 3208
in it. No, he just put a starter on it. I mean, the starter looks new.
And it is an 84. The engine's an 84. And the engine looks clean.
Yeah. 240 horsepower. So what is that? Not a big one. A small cam? Yes.
Is that a small cam? Probably a small cam like a 2... I don't know.
I mean, 240 horsepower. Well, a 290 would be... Yeah, it don't have a blower, does it? A turbo.
Not on this side. I can't see if it's on the other side or not.
Yes, it does. What in the world? Does it? I can't see it on this side. Yeah, it's a big one.
Okay. I know everybody said, oh, my gosh. Wasn't this plowing? It was the fall.
It's got the PT fuel injection pump, you know? Yeah.
This thing will fire right up. Of course, this is not a Will It Start video, but yeah,
it's got a new starter on it here. So that's a good sign. All right.
You want to check the oil and all that good stuff in it? Yeah, let's do. All right.
One of these kind of oil sticks. Oh, yeah. Our favorite kind. Oh, yeah. Look at that.
This thing's making oil. Good. All the air cleaners in the passenger seat up there.
Let me see if it's got fuel.
Hey. Sir? I wonder if we got anybody out there that can tell us what the purpose of those
corkscrew dipsticks are. My assumption is to just help it get down into the tube.
Huh? Just to help it go down into the tube easier.
You're talking about it just follows the tube down rather than. Yeah, that'd be my assumption,
but you know, I've never been wrong, but one time I didn't. I wonder if they just had
two longer sticks and they just. That's what they come up with. That's what they come up with. Hey,
we need to shorten this. Yeah, it is when you do like chains, like when you do trailer chains and
when you hook your trailer up to your truck, you corkscrew them to make them shorter.
That would be a corkscrew, wouldn't it? Yeah. Yeah, that's right. All right. So we got oil,
we got fuel, got tons of fuel there. But as far as the frame and stuff, I'm not seeing any issues
with the frame, you know? Because a lot of times, you know, these things will have,
like the hinges will be bad on the bed of the truck and stuff like that.
I wonder if it's always, has it always been a dump truck or was it a
truck? It's got bolts off the axles. I don't know what that's about.
Oh yeah. There's got to be something about it. The driveline's in it, but the bolts are,
nuts are missing on the studs. Yeah, so when you contact the guy, you'll have to see.
Ask him what that's about. Yep. But the tires,
I wouldn't classify them as dry rotted at all, actually. I mean, they're not new, but...
11-20-2-5. I think that's a 11-20-2-5, that's a 10-20, and the difference between them,
a 10-20, a 11-20-2-5 is? 125.
True that. One's tubeless and one's not. Oh, I learned something today.
Well, that's the tube type. These have all the axle bolts. Yeah. On this side. So you can see
here, all these, and same thing with the front axle. They're all good there. It's got a little
leakage problem there. I need a new tire there. It's got a hole in the side wall.
All right. Let's put a battery on it, what do you think? Okay. Okay. I got a doctor's excuse now.
They're faxing it to you. Yep. All right, that should be good.
Then we just back that truck right up there. Shoot, man. What you talking about, driver?
I'm going to back right up to that battery tray. What do you think? Well, come on.
We're talking about it. See, here's what the viewers don't understand, right? Here's what
the viewers don't understand, Wild. I understand you're hurt, and I understand you're sore,
so I'm trying to stall so that your body has time to recover. Yeah.
I'm like a hurt animal, ain't I? Yeah. I'm an animal. Mainly my pride. Yeah, I know it.
And you got it on video. It's going on video, too. You can believe that.
Wiley, we're going to title this video, The Day My Friend Almost Died.
Remember the video where- You should title it, The Day I Almost Died Laughing When Wiley-
The Day I Almost Died Laughing So Hard That Wiley Fell. Yeah. I think that's what we'll title the
video. Oh, actually, you know how people got all cray-cray about when I let my editor go?
They thought I was firing you. They says, clickbait. Well, I actually thought I was fired,
too, or died. I didn't know which one it was. Well, what if I- All the black and whites in there.
What if I did a clickbait title that says, Wiley Almost Dies. Wiley almost has to go to the
hospital. Wiley Lawyered Up. That's what you should air. Well, it looks like you had three
batteries. We got some more- So let's do that. We got some more- I got- Do you want to hook
them up? Huh? I didn't know if it was going to hook them up to the-
Just leave them on the tailgate.
Let's play with the positive and negative first and see which one is which.
I'm guessing that's the- You got to find that? Nope. You had a 50-50 chance. So you're saying
there's a chance. Well, it's going to be my day, I think. Whatever you're doing is making noise
over here. Seriously. Making noise where? Up in the cab? Oh, that's just probably the ceiling
noise peeking in and out. Yeah, that's what it is. We'll make sure we show the dash real good,
before we leave.
9-16th, bud? 9-16th.
Hey, Wiley. Hey. This little thing right here- Huh? This little thing right here, man,
Diesel Creek would love to have some of this. It's got like a lawnmower engine on it. A little
compactor? Yeah. I guess that's the water tank in the back where you put the weight on it. Probably.
It's got a big roller, but that motor on there is literally like a lawnmower engine.
Oh yeah, like an old one where you take a rope and you turn it. Yeah. Ain't that crazy?
That's crazy what people can come up with. No, we're not coming back with this.
Check if it's locked up. Nope. Sure ain't. I bet we could crank it.
It's not locked up at all. Interesting. It's gas though, ain't it? I know it.
There's a little carb, no fuel line to it. All right, back to squirrel.
Oh, look, a piece of equipment. Well. Deep subject. Let me pull up some.
You want to fire this thing up or what? I'll let you do the honors.
Tenfold. Before we fire it up, here's what the gauges look like.
There. It's got 264,056 miles on it. 264056. Lockout diff, parking brake.
I don't know what that's for. All right, ready?
Are you kidding me? I fell out of a truck for this.
We're not doing something right. I mean, but how hard is it to crank a truck?
Know what I mean? Pull back over here. Let's hook some more batteries to it. Okay.
Yeah, this thing's cool, Wiley. Yeah. I think there's a company called Rosco.
Rosco Vibrastat. I think I've seen it on like Big Iron Auctions or Purple Wave or whatever that
website is. That engine there is not locked up, but I think they're usually like a 20.
You literally went and stepped right in front of the camera.
I did the viewers a favor.
Yeah, I think a lot of them had like 20 horsepower Honda engines on them and stuff like that.
So just a little small gas powered engines. They go for, I don't know.
Probably, yeah, 900 bucks. If they're running, they probably get 12, 1500 bucks for them,
something like that. I'm saying that's where the vibrator must be coming in. That thing's
not loose. I mean, not locked up. Yeah. And then you add water. You can add water up here
for compaction. And then what they usually come with is a steel brush and you take it and you get
all the surface rust off of it. And that helps the... Well, these are Tufts operators. It didn't
come with a seat. They just... Back in the day. Yeah, they... We're men, we're men. We're men,
we're men. Chain driven. Yeah. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Let me see if I can open this thing up and
see. It's got the forward and reverse. Oh, it's got a... It's cool outside. Yeah. Yeah, I know,
right? Oh, this is not hinged, it's got bolts on it. Let me grab a wrench and just take this
off just so we can see underneath it, don't you? Yeah. Might as well, huh? Might as well.
This International here, I don't know what size it is,
but you know, International made a lot and a lot of trucks that haven't.
That ain't gonna happen.
Sometimes you just gotta be a macho man, you know what I mean?
That's your favorite band, I believe.
I like the construction work.
Who's your favorite? The Indian.
What was the other ones? I said police officer. Yeah, what was that? Police officer,
Indian, construction worker. How many were they, five?
I can't remember.
There's more than three. Oh. Because they could do YMCA.
And they had... Seems like there was a dude in a brown outfit.
That was Indian. No, he had a headdress on. Okay. He had like a brown...
I don't know, leave a comment. You got a poster hanging up.
All right, that's the gearbox. Yeah, obviously chain driven like we said. This drives this.
This is going forward and reverse, I'm sure. There's your brakes.
Yeah. It's got a clutch brake system on it.
The output shaft there turns this, which turns that. Yep, there you go. And it's not locked up.
Amazing. Yeah, it's pretty cool, isn't it?
Seriously, you could take that engine off right here and replace it with one of those Harbor
Freight Predator engines on it. Predator. You know what I mean? Yeah. And you'd have a sucker
up and running again. You think? Yeah. That's pretty neat. I don't know if I've ever seen one
of these. I wonder where the vibrator mechanism was, all in here or something. Oh, like to turn
on? Yeah. Well, there's some... Oh, that's the water outlet. Yeah. This might be the cheap
version. Where it might be a compactor. No, it says vibrator on the front. Okay. Yeah.
Well, that's going to happen back here. Well, and it had the offset
cam or whatever that goes through the drum. Yeah. All right.
Cool. Let's see what this thing is. Oh, that's where you pour the water in there. Yeah.
Well, that's a little low, ain't it? Just a tick low. Just peaky. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, this thing's
cool. But we're not here to see this. We're here to see that dump truck. That's right. Yeah. So,
let's go take a look at that L9000. All right. Cool. No longer allowed to climb on anything,
Wiley. Oh, mercy. I got to take care of my friend. He's got that invisible fire.
Help me, Tom Cruise. Oh, man. Would you slide that other one out? Oh, yeah.
Oh, we need to back up just a tad now. I'll back up some. Wiley, it's almost like you're doing
surgery on this, you know? It makes me think about that. The last time I was in for surgery,
the doctor was like, relax, David. It's just a small surgery. I was like, I'm not David.
And he goes, I know I am. That makes you feel real good before the doctor lays it to you,
you know what I mean? You look for a cap?
Not a battery. Do what? That battery.
Well, I hope we can crawl. I had to crawl in through the passenger side.
And? Your point. Now I'm telling you, remember we hooked up the batteries wrong in the
Deuce and a Half the first time in a video that we did recently? People were like, did you not
hear us screaming through the TV? You're putting the batteries on wrong. We did. We just thought
we was right. That's right. We appreciate you guys making those type of comments. These obviously are
hooked up right, right now. No fire. So no Sparky. Old Sparky didn't come through for us here.
Once these four right here don't spin it. Yeah. We're in trouble, aren't we? Yeah.
We might ought to go. If this don't work, we'll go to the descriptions and see if I missed. Oh,
it had a locked up engine. Oh yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. The description should be able
should reveal that. Well, yeah, we'll see how you described it and people will know when you buy
something, you better come check it out. Yeah. Not saying that everybody's dishonest, but
you miss things when it sets up a while. I mean, for real, you do. Owners don't know.
Yeah. And, you know, I mean, heaven forbid somebody tell you something that they're doing,
you know, like, okay, well, it's got this problem or don't have this problem. And then the person
gets home and it has a problem. Well, that may have happened on the way home. You know what I
mean? Yeah. That stuff happens, man. But this is going to fire up because it's got the old
rattle can, the old Earl Schaub $99 paint job on it.
All right, Hank. All right. Let me crawl up in the passenger side. You're up.
Wiley. Hey. Let me crawl on the passenger side of my best friend's ride.
All right, here we go. Ready, Freddy? Is there some type of emergency something another
that we're not seeing? All right, here we go. Ready?
It might be the starter.
He says it's got a new starter in it, but some of those aftermarket starters sometimes are bad.
I don't smell any smoke. I don't either. Yeah, this is nuts. Wiley, we, well, first of all,
we've had some bad luck. Let's look up the description.
I PM'd you this information, didn't I? I think it's you using those technical terms,
PM. Do you preventative maintenance to me? Postmortem.
Wiley. Look at that. Oh, sold. Yeah. Now, that's happened since Friday. Yeah. Yeah,
because you told me about it Friday. We're filming this on a Monday.
Let's see what it says in the description, shall we? You got better eyes than a cat.
1984 Ford L9000 15-yard dump. I believe it has a big cam Cummins. It does smoke some when it's
cranked for a bit. The bed works as it should. It does have air operator release for gate.
Ask him $5,000. Needs batteries. It has a new starter. Then the guy's phone number. Well,
it definitely has a new starter. It does have a new starter, and it does have an air release
for the gate. It does have a big cam. Looks like it needs more than batteries though,
because we got four on it. Yeah. I wonder if he tried to start it since the batteries.
I mean, since the starter. I wonder if he put a starter on it because it was doing this.
Oh yeah. He thought the starter was bad. He said the engine locked up. Impossible, huh?
Because I'm telling you Hank, that ain't budging. That bottom crank isn't. No.
Did I say? Yeah. Well, I figured it was, I knew it was jinx when I fell out the dang thing.
I think, well it's Halloween. I bet you when them goblins throw me out.
All right. So don't, evidently it sold. Yeah. Well, probably got an offer on it. He put it up
for sale. The guy probably come do a final inspection on it, make sure it runs. And then
may or may not buy it. Yeah. I mean, you know, that's what I'm saying. You just don't never know
till you come, till you get here. You never know. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. But one thing we can do
while we're here, there's that. You want a screwdriver? No, I ain't gonna mess. I'm not
gonna mess with it. Okay. I don't want to mess up that starter, but that is a brand new starter.
I think he's got more trouble and I'm not saying the thing ain't just stuck.
Yeah. I don't know how long it's been. Well, to be honest with you, once I seen the big red
sold letters on there. Yeah. Somebody else's isn't it? That's right. It's somebody else's issues.
All right. Well, just be careful when you're buying stuff on Marketplace. That's right.
Not that the sellers are evil. Nah. Or misleading. You have the opportunity to go look. Yeah, that's
right. Yeah, definitely. Go look. We're not trying to say negative things of the dude at all. I mean,
he just, maybe he didn't know or maybe whatever. Just the message or the lesson learned in this
video is to make sure you check things out before you buy it. Well, actually, I thought we could
FEMET run and FEMET dump and drive him some buyers to him. That's why I thought,
well, we might can send him, you know, five or six people that watch us. One of those might work.
We might could drive one of them to him. And you know, I've been,
seriously, I've been in a market for a dump truck and this was in my price range.
Right. It would have been a little too big for my needs, but the price range was good.
And you know, if it would have dumped, it probably would have been worth having at the farm.
You know, we should pick out four or five Marketplace machines and go. Yeah. Go see how
the descriptions are and see what they are to them. That's a good idea. You guys leave a comment if
you think it's a good idea. We'll do a series on Facebook Marketplace descriptions. Yeah. You know
what I mean? How accurate is this description on Marketplace? Yeah. We might make a lot of
people mad if we did that. We're just the owners. Just the owner. That's the only potential madness
I could see out of it. Well, I mean, hey, listen, you need to be honest. Well, they are. Yeah. They
are. He put that starter on here thinking that that's what the trouble was. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I didn't imply that it was this dude's. Okay. All right. Well, listen, we're going to get out of here and
we're going to wrap this one up because this one is not, this one is not. Hey, and if you've
seen this one on Marketplace before we got here, let us know too that you had seen this earlier.
Yeah. Leave a comment for that too. So check out our next video. I'm going to give you a preview of
the next video that we're releasing here on Hamiltonville Farms. So make sure you turn your
