Hey everyone, welcome to my new tutorial.
Today we are going to create this product animation and I came up with this little fun
blender keyboard so I really hope you will enjoy this one and if you do, please don't
forget to leave that like and if you're new around here, hit that subscribe.
Let's now jump into empty blender file and first of all, let's select the light and the
cube, we don't need them, press X and delete and now we'll create that fun little keyboard
so we need to figure out the keyboard layout and their sizing and you know, the spacing
between them so let's press shift A, add a plane, now let's press 7 on numpad for a top
view, you can see now this is 2x2 and we want 3x2 for the keys but I will do 2 more rows
and 2 more columns and you will see why just in a second.
So let's tab into the edit mode and let's press S and scale this 2.5 times on the X
axis so press X and 2.5 and confirm and now S then Y and let's do just 2, confirm so this
will be now 5 to 4 and we can now press ctrl R and increase number of cuts to 3 here, right
click to release and press ctrl R again and do the same thing here but with the 4 cuts,
confirm and release and now press 3 for face select, select all the faces and press ctrl
B to bevel and create the gaps in between the keys, something like this should be enough
and now since we were in the face select, these are already selected so just press X
and delete faces and now we can just select the top row, hold shift, select the bottom
one and the sides too, press X and delete.
Now the way I did it is because if I had only this plane right here and did these bevels,
the keys on the sides would be smaller a little bit so this way I'm sure they are the same
size so now let's press A to select all and E to extrude, something like this and press
period on the keyboard and switch to individual origins or you can do it right here and press
S and scale them inside and now let's press ctrl R here and increase number of cuts to
2, left click and right click to release and do the same thing for all of these.
Now press 3 for face select, hold shift and select these faces and press G then Z and
move them inside.
Now I want to connect these two to create this little space bar but I did them separately
because I wanted this slope on the sides to be the same so let's just select these faces,
press ctrl plus and press X and delete vertices and now we can just press 2 for edge select,
alt click this loop, hold alt and shift, select the loop on the other side and press ctrl
E and bridge edge loops.
Now let's make sure normals are correct so press A and shift N to recalculate them and
let's finish with the rest on the keyboards.
If you feel like this is too fast for you or you don't understand some core concepts
make sure to check out my courses, I carefully designed them to take you from beginner skills
through low poly illustration all the way to full character illustration, textured environments
and much more and I build the courses as creative projects each with its own style and every
time there's a new technique or something needs explaining we stop for a while and you
get an in-depth explanation but in the end you still get a full project result so if
you're interested please check out the link in the description.
So tab out, let's press shift A, we'll add a plane, let's press 7 on a numpad for top
view, tab into the grid mode and let's scale this up a little bit, maybe even more, we
can create like a little trim there later and then press S then X and do the same thing
here and now let's extrude this, like that and now press 3 for face select, alt click
this loop, let's press 7 on a numpad again and let's press alt E and extrude faces along
normals and let's do something like this and now we can select the middle one and press
E and extrude it inside, like that and let's make sure the normals are correct again so
press A and shift N and now alt click this loop inside, press shift D to duplicate, right
click to release in place, P and enter to separate the selection, tab out, select that
new object, tab into the edit mode, press A and let's look from the top by pressing
7 on a numpad and let's press alt E and extrude along normals and let's create a trim like
this, okay, again A and shift N to recalculate, alt click this top loop, press G then Z and
move it up slightly and now we can create kind of a little slope so tab out, hold shift,
select this object right here, press 3 for side view, tab into the edit mode, let's enable
x-ray view, go for vertex select by pressing 1 and select all of these vertices and press
ctrl shift and alt and S and then press Y to switch the axis and we can slope it and
we can slope it like this, okay, tab out and let's disable the x-ray view and later I will
move these up but I will leave them like this for now, let's just add some bevels so go
to the modifiers panel and let's add bevel modifier, increase number of segments, reduce
the amount a little bit like this and go to geometry and switch method to arc and now
click here and choose copy to select it, that will transfer the same thing, we can go a
little bit lower on the amount so now you can hold alt while dragging this and that
will change it for both modifiers and we can hold alt and increase number of segments to
3 and now just in the shading hold alt key and enable harden normals, right click and
shade smooth and now select the keys, let's add the bevel modifier here as well, increase
the segments to 2, reduce the amount like this and press ctrl 2 to add subdivision surface
modifier, right click and shade smooth and of course we can make them a little bit larger
now so tab into the edit mode, press alt S and then S for even scaling and inflate them
a little bit like this, maybe even more, ok I think this will be enough so tab out and
now just parent everything to the main object so hold shift, parent it here, ctrl P and choose
object and now press shift A, add a plane and that will be our background so scale it
up and now let's look from the camera by pressing 0 on an armpit and we can press N to show
side panel and go to the view settings and enable camera to 3d view so now if you use
your viewport controls you can rotate the camera and let's do a view like this here
ok and let's disable this and now we can press ctrl B and limit the render preview only for
camera bounds, go to render settings, enable cycles, I will switch to GPU, enable some
denoising and switch to GPU denoising and for the animation something like 128 should
be ok and now let's press shift A and we'll add a light, choose area light and just press
G then Z, move it up, make it a little bit larger so this will be just the basic light
so we can see what we are doing and hold Z and go to render preview so now we can make
the light a little bit stronger here so let's do something like 150 or maybe even 500 should
be ok and now let's play with the materials and I quickly made the texture with all the
letters I want to use here, you can find the link in the description along with the
blender logo so you can download those and follow along so let me just expand this part
right here and we'll switch this to UV editor and now here let's expand one more window
and there'll be the shader editor like this, we can press N to collapse this and press
N in the main viewport to collapse that one as well and first of all let's do some unwrapping
so select the keys, tab into the edit mode and press P and separate by loose part, that'll
separate each of them into a new object so now we can tab out and these four are the
same so we can select them by holding shift, right click and set origin to geometry, that'll
set the origin point to the middle of them so now we can press CTRL L and link the object
data so they are now linked, if I choose to edit some of them all of them will be affected
so now we can unwrap just one so let's press 7 on our armpit for top view, tab into the
edit mode and press U and choose project from view and you should get something like this
here so now let's tab out and let's go to the material settings and let's create a new
material and we'll call this key and here in the editor let's press shift A and let's
do texture and image texture and I'll just open my keyboard image here and connect the
color, tab back into the edit mode so we can see the texture right there and now we can
just select this, scale it up and move it here so we get the desired result, something
like this is ok and now we can tab out, select these three and go object, relations, make
single user, object and data and that will separate them again so we did the UV mapping
and now we just need to modify it so I will select this one here, tab into the edit mode
and press G then X here in the UV editor and just move it to the side here like that, tab
out, do the same here and additionally press G then Y and move it down, tab out, select
the last one and press G then Y and move it down here and this will be a little bit more
centered like this to the side, ok, something like that and now let's select this one here,
tab into the edit mode, press A and U, project from view again and now we'll create a new
material there as well, let's call it space and let's press Shift A here, add image texture
and let's add the logo and connect to color and again tab back in and you will see the
preview here, select all here in the UV and press S, sometimes when it's not square you
need to unwrap it again so let's press U and project from view and you will see the shape
is a little bit different now so make sure you unwrap sometimes after plugging in the
texture, ok, I really like this and now here we'll switch this from repeat to clip and
tab out and this is a transparent image so we'll need to use its alpha channel so let's
move this to the side, let's press Shift A and we'll go color and mix color and plug
the alpha in the factor and here we'll plug this into B and A change to the white color
and that will make it seamless like this so that's for the color of that key and now let's
take care of the rest so let's select this one and you can see all of them have the same
key material so we can edit just one and it will change everywhere so let's press Shift
A and we'll do the same color, mix color and plug the factor here this time and now we
can just change the colors of the letters and color of the keys so you can do them dark,
you can do them colored, whatever you like, whatever works for you, I really like just
the subtle gray dark keys like this and then for the Alt key I want to do something different
so there will be different material but before I do I want to give some texture here because
this is too smooth so let's press Shift A here and let's go texture and noise texture
and to make sure all the shortcuts are working go edit, preferences, add-ons and search for
Wrangler and just activate the Node Wrangler, close the preferences and now if you hold
Ctrl and Shift and click the noise texture you will see the preview here so now let's
just increase the scale to something like 100 or maybe even 200 something really small
and now let's press Shift A and we'll add a bump node so vector bump and we'll plug
this to height and this to normal so now if we Ctrl Shift click the principle shader again
you will see the normal texture, the noise in action but this is too rough so probably
we'll need to modify the strength to something like 0.1 something really subtle or maybe
something like 0.2 so it's visible but it's not like dominant and now that the material
is finished we can of course play with the roughness here make them a little bit more
glossy but I think I like it at 0.5 we can select the Alt key, duplicate this material
and just change the color here to orange and it should work nicely maybe a little bit darker
and maybe less rough okay so that's for the keys I don't think we need to add the noise
to the white one it wouldn't be visible anyway so let's take care of the rest of the scene
so let's select the background create a new material let's call this BG and now I will
the noise texture again so let's press Shift A and create the noise texture Ctrl Shift and
click the texture for preview and now let's press Shift A and we'll add a ramp, color ramp
and plug it right here so it connects between your viewer and the noise texture and you can
now start to modify this make it a little bit more compressed so these will be like
specs and now we can play with the scale so we can make this really dense and I think the
specs need to be a little bit more subtle something like this you can see you can really
play with the position and the proximity of these color ramp controls so this will be our mask
so first of all let's press Shift A and let's add mixed color again let's plug this to factor
and first of all we'll change the background to black and the specs to something like brass
or something like that now let's hold Ctrl and Shift and select the principal again
plug this here and additionally we'll take this mask and plug it into metallic and the specs are
now metallic but it's not very visible because you need to take this and plug it into roughness as
but this will be flipped so let's move this to the side so let's press Shift A let's go color
and invert color and plug it right here where the roughness goes and now this is invert so
we just need to bring this a little bit closer so we get rid of that edge now you have these glossy
metallic specs there and we can play with the color brightness here and now let's select the
and we'll do the same material here but we'll duplicate it and basically just change the scale
and the distribution of these specs so we can do something like this and maybe make them a little
bit more sparse i think it looks really nice and now just select this part create a new material
let's go all the way black and reduce the roughness to almost zero and now it's time
to just select these three let's press three for a side view press G then Z and move them up a
little bit so we match that slope there yeah basically that's our you know little funky
keyboard so let's press zero on an armpit for a camera view and now we can play with some lighting
so we can select this area light press G and Shift Z to move it around and move it a little bit
backwards and let's make it stronger something like 1500 and now you can see the metallic
specs really kick in and start to make all those reflections you can even plug in HDRI if you want
and now i will just duplicate this and create more reflections and more highlights and make this a
little bit weaker something like 500 and maybe do one on the other side as well so i'm just pressing
Shift D to duplicate and then Shift Z to lock to X and Y axis and move to the side like this
and i'm looking for this reflection for example you can see as i'm moving the light
the reflection appears on the surface and i'm looking for those and of course the shadows
on those to be nice as well but i think this works just fine and i really like this so let's
animate this a little bit so i will hold Z go to solid view and i don't think we need shader
and uv edit anymore so let's collapse those let's expand the timeline here and i want to have two
cameras two camera shots and some moving lights and the idea behind the animation is that this
keyboard you know is made out of the transformation keys for blender S for scale R for rotation and so
on so i want to kind of show some of these transformation on this keyboard so on the
frame let's select the S key let's press N for the side panel go to the item menu and right click
and insert single keyframe on the Z axis here and now move to frame 10 let's press G then Z
move this down like this right click and insert single keyframe and now select this one and press
Shift D and duplicate it to like frame 5 so this will be the key press and of course we can play
with the curve so now in the timeline press ctrl tab to switch the curve editor select all
and press period on a numpad to focus in on the animation so now we can click this here press V
and choose to and switch to free so we can edit these handles separately and make this more steep
and now here we want this we want to make this more smooth so the movement will be
steep in the beginning and then the release will be a little bit slower there so something like
this and we'll reuse this animation for the rest of the keys so when you press S
the whole keyboard should like start scaling so select that one and now on the frame 12 let's say
let's right click and insert keyframe on scale we need to do all of them X and Y and Z
and now move to frame 30 let's click and drag so we select all of them and rewrite them all at once
to something like 1.2 right click and insert keyframes and now again we'll play with the
timing and curves so this is too slow um so let's select all these keyframes because if you expand
you will see there are three tracks so press V and choose free and now we'll drag the selection
around these handles and we can modify all of these at once and make it more steep here as well
or you can select this and press T and choose something like bounce they'll make it a little
bit more funky and i really like that so let's select this one and bring it closer so it's like
more sudden okay and now we'll animate the alt S which is like reset for the scale
so select the S key and just select all of the keyframes here and press shift D
and X and duplicate along X axis so you'll see this will happen again but now we want the alt
key there so let's select the alt key hold shift select the S and let's press ctrl L and we'll link
the animation data so now they would be animated the same way but now we can select the alt key
and go object relations make single user object animation that will separate it again so now we
can just select these in the beginning press X and delete them and move these around so first of all
we'll move the key back into place so let's press one for a front view here in the viewport
and here in the timeline press G then Y and move this down so we'll see the animation will shift
lower and now we have the same animation so we just need to shift things around a little bit
and we'll need to play this a little bit sooner so press G then X here in the timeline
and move it sooner and it will need to stay there so let's move to frame like 32
and let's right click and insert single keyframe here let's move to frame 33 and do the same thing
there right click and insert single keyframe and now we can select that one make sure you are not
selecting the handle select this by holding shift and the last one and press G then X and we can
move this further away so basically it will hold the S will happen and then it will release maybe
it can release a little bit sooner like that and then the scale should reset like here so let's
select the keyboard again so now we'll just duplicate some of these but again make sure
you are dragging the selection around the keyframe so you're selecting all the channels
and press shift D then X and move it here and now do the same thing here press shift D and X
and move it right there and now drag selection here and press T and choose bounce interpolation
so they'll bounce back again so now this is what we have here and now i want to do like a
you know quick rotation after the key press R so again we'll transfer the animation let's select R
hold shift select the S and we'll press ctrl L link animation data and then hit R and again
object relations make single user and object animation and you can right click and add to
quick favorites so then i can just press Q and choose object animation and it will happen now
i will select all of this in the beginning press X delete keyframes and then just press G then X
and move all of this a little bit later like this and after pressing R the rotation will happen so
select this right click on the Z rotation and insert single keyframe and we'll move like
30 frames or so and let's do 360 rotation here right click and insert single keyframe you can
see this will be quite steep because the units are degrees and you can either normalize this
so you will see the same range from zero to one or you can choose to disable these
and select all and focus on your animation with the period on a numpad whatever you prefer and i
want to do like really steep quick rotation but i want to like charge it up a little bit before
so i will go down a notch and then bring this closer so it will kind of go to the one side
and then rotate um maybe we can do this less steep like that okay and now basically we just
need to animate um some camera so we can select it and i will go to the output settings and
go for some final resolution like 1600 to 1200 press G then X twice to move this closer a little
bit and then switch the frame rate to 30 and finally modify the length of the animation
because we don't need all 240 frames so as it finishes with the rotation i think 140 should be
okay so let's do that right here and then it will start again and to make this a little bit more
dynamic we can do like camera movements here so let's press G then X move the camera a little bit
here right click and insert single keyframe for the X location and now move to frame let's say 80
press G then X and move it here right click and insert single keyframe and press A and now you
can see by default um this is bezier so we can press T and choose linear interpolation so it
will be one constant smooth movement and then i want to switch camera like on frame 70 in the
half of the animation so on the frame one with the camera selected let's press CTRL tab here
to go back to the timeline and we can press CTRL B and that will create a camera marker here you
can do it also in the marker bind camera to markers and now if you move to frame 70 you
can press SHIFT A create another camera press ALT R to reset it press G then Z move it up
and now in the timeline press CTRL B and that will set the camera for this marker so the scene
will automatically switch between those cameras as you go and now for this camera let's bring it
higher up i want to do some subtle movement here as well so press G then Y move it up
and right click and insert single keyframe on the Y location and now move to frame 140
press G then Y and move it down and right click and insert single keyframe here and again i'll
press A in the timeline and T and linear interpolation so it moves constantly so now
let's preview our animation here okay i really like that um so finally we can add some you know
lighting effects and as the camera pans around we can do like quick flyby of the light so let's
press SHIFT A we'll do another area light press G then Z move it up maybe a little bit closer
and now let's switch this to rectangle and let's do like a light strip like this let's do like 500
and maybe let's color this a little bit like that and press G then X and move it away
right click and insert single keyframe for the X location and now i think around frame 120
it should be it should be on the other side so press G then X move it here right click and
insert single keyframe and here we can leave the bezier we can maybe even make it steeper
if you wish um you can like bring these handles closer so there's a little bit more action in
the flyby and now we preview this i really like that but i think one more flash of the light
would look great here let's duplicate this i will just here in the timeline press G then Y
and move these frames higher up so it just goes a little bit later and now there will be two of
those so yeah this type of lighting effects are really important when you're trying to show off
and in general reflections are the things you should be looking for when you try to present
you know some piece of device or something like that so let's now just go to the render settings
and final setup let's enable motion blur and in the output settings let's modify this to ffmpeg
and let's switch to mp4 encoding and just pick your folder right here go render render animation
wait out your frames and your animation should be ready and basically now you can maybe make a
larger keyboard if you want you can do different kind of device you can do maybe a smartphone
like this but with similar setup camera movements lighting and things like that the transformation
so i really hope you enjoyed this one and again if you did please leave that like and if you're
around here hit that subscribe thank you all for watching have a wonderful day
