Who are you? It's an interesting question, right? The typical response would be your name.
Some people may extend their response to state their profession or their position. You will have
people proudly answer, I am the director of a nationwide logistics company. Now, depending on
your culture and which part of the world you're from, others will tell you that they are so and
But you see, when I'm asking who you are, I'm asking a question that only you and God
know the answer to. I'm asking who you really are. Behind the position, behind the profession,
behind your family name, who are you? No one will ever answer and say, my name is Bob.
I'm a struggling Christian. Sometimes I believe and I want to do right. But other times I just
really want to enjoy myself and do whatever I want. No one will ever answer and tell you that
no one will ever be so honest that if you were to ask them who they really are behind closed
doors, they would respond. Hi, my name is Beth, and I'm happily married. But sometimes I struggle
with lustful thoughts about my boss at work. No one will be that honest. So if you won't be
honest with me, if you won't be honest to another person, at least be honest with yourself. Who
are you? You can easily fool the pastor. You may be a deacon or an elder on the church board,
but behind closed doors, you are a man or woman wrestling with fear, with worry,
with adultery, with addiction. Now I say that to tell you this, God knows who you are.
God knows what you do and who you do it with and when you do it. The Bible says in Proverbs 15,
verse three, the eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.
There is nothing hidden. No deed goes unrecorded. No thought goes unmonitored. No action will go
unaccounted for. So my message to you is be careful who you are behind closed doors.
Yes, we see when you step outside of the house with a crisp and expensive suit. We see you in
the office commanding respect. We see you in church even looking like a child of God, but
God sees your heart. God sees past your best outfit. First Samuel 16, verse seven says,
but the Lord said to Samuel, do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature,
because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees. Man looks on the outward
appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. God looks at the heart because that's who you really
are. The people around you might know you as a good worker, a good neighbor, a good Christian
man or woman, but too often, these are all disguises. No one is nearly as good or as
spiritual and holy as they want everyone else to believe. That's the nature of the flesh.
However, be careful who you are behind closed doors. Your public disguise may cover the sins
you commit in the dark, but there is no disguise that can cover the truth from God. He knows you
better than you know yourself. Every single hair on your head is numbered. Before you were formed,
he knew you. Before you loved him, he loved you. We cannot get away from the eyes of God,
and we can do all kinds of shenanigans to impress people, but ultimately none of that really
matters because the one that we need to impress is God. The one who we truly need to be real for
is God. This is not to say you're perfect. No. We all have baggage and dirt that we carry into
our Christian lives, and even as Christians, we give into sin, and that adds more dirt on us,
and it becomes harder for us to reflect God's glory. We all have our flaws indeed. However,
be honest about it to yourself, and let your prayer be, God, here is my weakness.
This is the sin I'm struggling with. Help me. Deliver me. Remove this desire. Set me free from
this bondage. I want you to know that Jesus Christ will take you as you are. You might beat yourself
up about your imperfections, your weaknesses, your shortcomings, but Jesus Christ has given us
an open invitation to come to him. There is nowhere in the Bible that tells you to clean
yourself up, then come to the Lord. We cannot clean ourselves. It's when we accept Jesus Christ
as our Lord and Savior, it's when we yield to the leadership, the conviction of the Holy Spirit,
it's when we do this that we can begin to be cleansed and purified. Regardless of who you are,
and I mean who you are behind closed doors, regardless of what you've done, God sees you
and considers you to be precious, so precious that he sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ,
to die for you, all so that you would not perish. Saints, whatever problem,
whatever bondage you have behind closed doors, take it to Jesus. Expose that sin and that area
to the Lord. Deliverance might not come on day one, but if you would only remain strong in faith,
God will deliver you. God will bring you to a place where you are living free from the
chains of guilt and shame. God will bring you to a place where there is no condemnation from the
enemy. I pray that we would all come to the understanding that the Lord wants us to come
as we are, to come with our deficiencies, our flaws, so that he can take them away.
When you take your problems to Jesus, you will find healing and restoration.
You will find peace and boldness. In Jesus, you will find rest.
Let's clean our houses. It's time to take it all to the foot of the cross.
If you've been hurt or abandoned, and you now cry tears of anger and bitterness as a result,
take it to Jesus. He will mend the broken pieces within you. He will wipe away all the tears.
So let's clean our closets. Let's remove all of the skeletons in the closet. Put out all of the
junk and baggage in your life and give it to the Lord. He will make you whole again. He will dust
you off and cleanse you. He will shine his light over your life and leave you free from a life of
bondage, sin, and oppression. I pray that you would receive this word. I pray that you would
be honest about who you are and expose yourself to the Lord, because it's only Jesus Christ
who can set you free. Saints of God, I really want to encourage you to pray.
I want to impress upon your hearts the importance of being prayerful,
because you cannot be a true believer. You cannot be a Bible-believing Christian
and neglect prayer. If Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the firstborn of the dead,
if he prayed while on earth, if he prayed consistently and frequently,
how can you and I say that we follow him, but choose not to follow his actions? We need to pray.
We actually need to fight to pray. Right now, I want to speak to the person who has a desire to
make their prayer life more effective. I want to speak to the individuals who genuinely want to
pray fervently and passionately. The first thing I want to tell you is that you need the Holy Spirit.
You need to welcome the Holy Spirit. You need to seek to be filled by the Holy Spirit,
and you need to invite him in. Invite him into your prayer closet. The Bible says over in Romans 8
verses 26 through 27, likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know what to
pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Do you see the
importance of the Holy Spirit when it comes to your prayer life? He's the one who helps us in
our weakness, and believe me, a lot of the time we are all too weak to pray, and at times we don't
know what to pray, not outside of the usual requests that we have. But you see, it's the
Holy Ghost who empowers us, and he intercedes for us. Matthew 6 verse 7 says, and when you pray,
do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their
many words. You see, one of the biggest mistakes we can make is to pray without the guidance,
leadership, or influence of the Holy Spirit, because on our own, our prayers will be empty.
They will just be vain repetitions. But when we yield to the Holy Spirit and pray,
he's the one who intercedes for us according to the will of God. The Holy Spirit is the perfect
helper because he's the one who makes our prayers effective. Ephesians 6 verses 17 and 18 say,
and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God,
praying at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication. To that end,
keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
Did you notice how we're told to pray in the Spirit at all times? And so, saints, I want you
to invite the Holy Spirit into your lives. Indeed, invite him into your prayer closet.
And right now, I invite him into this time of prayer with us. Not only do I invite him in with
us, but I ask him to lead us regarding what we are to pray. So let's pray. Father God,
I pray for each and every person under the sound of my voice. I pray for every heart that's crying
out to know you more. God, we ask that you would pour your Spirit out over our lives.
Luke 11 verse 13 says, if you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him? So God,
right now we're asking, fill us with your Holy Spirit. Transform our prayer lives, God.
May we be people who fellowship with the Holy Spirit. May we be people who are under the
guidance and counsel of your Spirit, Lord Jesus. Teach us to pray in the Spirit
so that our prayers may have a sweet aroma to you, Lord. Father, we acknowledge that we need
the Holy Spirit. May he operate in such a mighty way in our lives. Lord, as we read your Word,
I pray that the Holy Spirit would bring understanding to our minds. May he open our
inner ears and our eyes so that we can see the treasure that's in the Word. Lord Jesus,
I pray that the Holy Spirit would bring the Scriptures to life as we read your Word.
And may that very Word pierce through every doubt, every eye of skepticism,
and every anxious mind. God, it's through the power of the Holy Spirit
that we can truly intercede for our families and for our homes. The Holy Spirit's the one
who empowers us to overcome any spiritual opposition that may be hidden in the dark.
Lord, will you please give us more discernment? Open our spiritual eyes so that we can see all
of the devil's attacks, and then we can rebuke and overcome them in Jesus' name.
Your Word says in Ephesians 5 verses 18 through 20,
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery. But be filled with the Spirit,
addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to
the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ. Indeed, Lord, fill us with your Spirit. God, let there be a mighty outpouring
of the Holy Ghost over our lives. Let that outpouring be so strong that it'll bring revival
in our hearts, that it'll bring revival within our families and in our communities that so
desperately need you. And Lord, let the outpouring be so strong that it brings revival across the
Father, don't let us be filled with wickedness or corruption, but let us only be filled by the Holy
Spirit. Lord, we don't want to be filled with envy, drunkenness, lust, or pride. No, no, we only want
your Spirit, Lord. We desire to only be filled by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8 verse 15 says,
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear,
but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba, Father. Thank you,
Abba, Father, for not giving us a spirit of slavery or a spirit of fear, but through your Spirit,
we have been adopted as your children. Holy Spirit, we invite you to operate freely in
our lives, move within our homes, speak to us, minister to us, convict us to repentance,
help us to live righteously and chase righteousness. Galatians 5 verses 16 and 17 say,
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit
are against the flesh. For these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things
you want to do. Lord, give us the strength and the grace to walk in the Spirit
and not to gratify the desires of the flesh. Holy Spirit, empower us and lead us.
And Father, I thank you right now, and I believe by faith that you have heard this prayer.
Father, continue to help us to desire the Holy Spirit, to receive the Holy Spirit,
to walk in the Holy Spirit, help us to be led by the Holy Spirit. May He guide us
not only in our prayers, but in our walk with you each and every day. God, we're so grateful.
We magnify you, and we pray this prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.
There are people out there who battle with many things each and every day. Some people wake up,
and the enemy they face is called depression. Others wake up, and their enemy is worry.
Some will find that the minute they open their eyes, that giant adversary called anxiety or
disease is looking at them straight in the face. These are hidden battles, but perhaps
the underlining force or spirit behind many negative feelings is fear. Fear will cause
someone to be anxious all the time. Fear will displace the joy in someone's life and leave them
dejected, depressed, and feeling hopeless. Fear will magnify the tragedy and blind you to
everything else that is good or everything else that is a blessing from God. You see, fear is more
than just a negative thought. It's more than an emotion. Fear is a spirit. 2 Timothy chapter 1
verse 7 says, For God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self-control.
The Amplified translation elaborates and says, For God did not give us a spirit of timidity
or cowardice or fear, but he has given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and
personal discipline, abilities that result in calm, well-balanced mind and self-control.
Fear is a spirit. The Bible does not say God did not give us a feeling or an emotion called fear.
No, it says he didn't give us a spirit of fear. The spirit of fear lies. The spirit of fear
comes to sabotage your faith and ransack your belief. The spirit of fear is a paralyzing spirit.
The spirit of fear is one of the devil's weapons of choice because of how it can consume the mind
and heart of a person. As children of God, we need to know this and rebuke this spirit from our lives.
In the innermost parts of our hearts, we need to be convicted, persuaded, and sure that God has
given us a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind. Nowhere on that list does it say God gave
us a spirit of fear. So why do so many of us accept it in our lives? Why do we fall victim
to it time and time again? Pray against this spirit and rebuke it from your life, saints.
There is power in the name of Jesus Christ. There is power in the blood of Jesus Christ.
And as children of God, we ought to know this. We ought to come against the spirit by making sure
we are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. We can come against the spirit of fear by making
sure our lives are anchored in God's word and in his promises. As you build your faith,
you block out the spirit of fear. Fear and faith do not mix. They are complete opposites.
So if you'll take just one thing away from my message today, let it be this. God has not given
you a spirit of fear. He has given you a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. So what do you do?
Where do you run to when life puts you through the fire? Well, let me remind you that the Bible
says the Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and he knows those who trust in him.
A day of trouble will come to all of us, but the Bible has told us that there is a refuge.
There is a place to hide when the day of trouble comes, and that place is in God. And when I say
in God, I'm talking about in fellowship with God. Look at everyone who's ever been delivered
from trouble in the Bible. They were delivered because they had a relationship with the Lord.
And when the day of trouble came, they had somewhere to run to. They had someone to call on.
So you may have been fighting the battles of life season after season, and I'm not just talking
about warfare in a single area of your life. No, I'm talking about multiple areas where trouble
has visited you. Areas like your family life, your physical health, or your mental and emotional
health too. All of these different areas may have been under attack at one point or another.
But let me tell you that you can withstand the storm. You can outlast trouble. You can
endure the fire if you stand in Jesus Christ. The joy of the Lord will be your strength.
Now let us pray. Lord, I bless your holy name, and I praise you for your goodness.
I thank you for the many blessings that you have given me. And among all that you have given me,
your word tells me that you have not given me a spirit of fear. I thank you for this word,
King Jesus. It's because of your word that I will not fear. It's because of your word that
I will not be afraid. Should I come face to face with adverse situations, let me not be afraid.
Let me not entertain fear. Should the enemy attempt to use fear as a weapon, I rebuke that
spirit in Jesus name. Should the enemy attempt to discourage and intimidate us with the spirit of
fear, I rebuke that spirit in Jesus name. I thank you for your word in Isaiah chapter
35 verse 4 that says, say to those who have an anxious heart, be strong, fear not, behold,
your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.
Father, I pray in agreement with everyone listening, we receive your word and we will not
be anxious. We will not have anxious hearts. We will not have panic stricken hearts because
the hand of God almighty is over us. The Lord of hosts watches over us. The God of the ages
is our deliverer. And if God is for us, who can be against us? If God is for us,
there is no room for fear. As long as you Lord are with us and for us, fear has been defeated
in our lives. The devil has been defeated and he has no power over us. The strength to overcome
fear, anxiety, and worry comes from you King Jesus. Give us the strength to stand in the face
of opposition and in a world filled with fear and declare that Jesus Christ has not given us a
spirit of fear or a spirit of timidity or cowardice, but he has given us a spirit of power and of love
and of sound judgment and personal discipline. I believe and declare that the Lord has given us
the grace to live a life that is filled with peace and joy with a well-balanced mind and
self-control. Father, your word in Joshua 1 verse 9 says, have I not commanded you? Be strong
and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you
wherever you go. I pray Lord Jesus that you would empower us to stand when the spirit of fear wants
us to fall. Give us strength and courage when the spirit of fear wants us to be weak and afraid.
We are blessed and we rejoice at the knowledge that you Lord God are with us wherever we go.
Lord, we humble ourselves. We submit and surrender to you a mighty God. I pray that you would help us
to set aside self-righteous pride. Help us to set aside any thoughts that tell us that we are
strong in our own strength. Instead, we cast all of our cares, all of our anxieties,
all of our worries and all our concerns. We cast them all to you Lord Jesus.
We cast them to you because you are a God who cares about us with the deepest affection
and you continually watch over us. Your word in First Chronicles 28 verse 20 says,
be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed for the Lord God,
even my God is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you until all the work for the service
of the house of the Lord is finished. May your word be established in our lives. May your word
be the anchor of our lives. We will not fear in Jesus name because you Lord will never leave us
or forsake us. Thank you for hearing this prayer. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Come out from among unbelievers and be separate says the Lord and do not touch what is unclean
and I will graciously receive you and welcome you with favor. Besides this, you know the time
that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep for salvation is nearer to us now than when we
first believed. Look to me and be saved all you ends of the earth for I am God and there is no
other. I have sworn by myself the word has gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not
return that to me every knee shall bow every tongue shall take an oath. Likewise the spirit
helps us in our weakness for we do not know what to pray for as we ought but the spirit himself
intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words and he who searches hearts knows what is
the mind of the spirit because the spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of
God and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God
praying at all times in the spirit with all prayer and supplication to that end
keep alert with all perseverance making supplication for all the saints. Have I not commanded you
be strong and courageous do not be frightened and do not be dismayed for the Lord your God is with
you wherever you go for God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear but he has
given us a spirit of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline abilities that
result in calm well-balanced mind and self-control say to those who have an anxious heart be strong
fear not behold your God will come with vengeance with the recompense of God he will come and save
you be strong and courageous and do it do not be afraid and do not be dismayed for the Lord God
even my God is with you he will not leave you or forsake you until all the work for the service of
the house of the Lord is finished
