The Arctic Circle is one of the two polar circles and the most northerly of the five major circles of latitude as shown on maps of Earth. It marks the northernmost point at which the center of the noon sun is just visible on the December solstice and the southernmost point at which the center of the midnight sun is just visible on the June solstice. The region north of this circle is known as the Arctic, and the zone just to the south is called the Northern Temperate Zone.
As seen from the Arctic, the Sun is above the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year (and therefore visible at midnight) and below the horizon for 24 continuous hours at least once per year (and therefore not visible at noon). This is also true in the Antarctic region, south of the equivalent Antarctic Circle.
Only about four million peoplelive north of the Arctic Circle because of the climate; nonetheless, some areas have been settled for thousands of years by indigenous peoples, who today make up 10% of the region's population. The largest communities north of the Arctic Circle are situated in Russia, Norway and one in Sweden: Murmansk (population 295,374), Norilsk (178,018), Tromsø (75,638), Vorkuta (58,133), Bodø (52,357), Harstad (24,703) and Kiruna (22,841). Rovaniemi (62,667) in Finland is the largest settlement in the immediate vicinity of the Arctic Circle, lying 6 km (4 mi) south of the line. Salekhard (51,186) in Russia is the only city in the world located directly on the Arctic Circle.
Kirkenes is a town in Sør-Varanger Municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, in the far northeastern part of Norway. The town lies on a peninsula along the Bøkfjorden, an arm of the large Varangerfjorden. The main church for Kirkenes is Kirkenes Church, located in the Haganes area of the town. Kirkenes is located just a few kilometres from the Norway-Russia border.
Although Kirkenes is the Norwegian town closest to the Russian border, Vardø to its north is located further east in Norway.

Kirkenes day three. I woke up in my little hut in a snow hotel. The bed, guys, is extremely
comfortable. It took ages to kick myself out of it, but it's 8 30 and it's time to have breakfast.
Of course, I'm taking you with me. Let's find out what's for breakfast in snow hotel.
Here you can buy some local souvenirs. Super cool. And it's also the place for breakfast.
How cool! So cute and cozy. Look, guys, almost in about a few weeks time the sun will finally
start appearing from that mount. For the first time people will see it in 2022. It must be such
a cool feeling to spend months in all darkness. But a good thing about it that after that you
will have several months with a daylight 24-7. I'm seriously thinking about going to Arctic
Circle again this summer. If you like this idea, please support me in the comments down below.
Tell me what would you like to see in Arctic Circle summertime and what activities I can
do 24-7. Please let me know in the comments down below. By the way, don't forget to smash that
like button if you enjoy this video. It will motivate me more to film something similar to
this one in the future. Consider subscribing to my channel. Also more cool things are yet to come.
10 a.m in Kirkenes at the very end of December. This is how much daylight it gets. Nothing lighter.
That's it for two hours. In two hours it's gonna be dark again. In this part of the Arctic Circle
the sun starts getting up at the very end of January. Starting from the last weeks of January
people here finally get their sunlight and at least it's not too cold today. Minus 13 Celsius.
Piece of cake. The third day in Kirkenes. The third day in Kirkenes. Still didn't manage to see
any northern lights. The northern lights strongly depend on weather condition.
In other words, if it's cloudy or if it's snowing like now you're not gonna see them. Unfortunately.
So when you're planning your trip to the Arctic Circle do not put to see the northern lights as
your major goal for coming. There are so many other activities to do here. You can do some
dog sledding, rent a snowmobile, undo some other activities and the northern light take them as a
bonus. If you see them good. If you don't you will still have some great time at the Arctic Circle.
Almost forgot. Vital advice for those of you guys who are planning to go to the Arctic Circle
winter time. Make sure you're taking with you your snowboarding or skiing gloves. Those ones
they're fine but when they get wet it's not the nicest feelings of all. And also make sure that
you will take some heating pads to put inside your gloves. It will keep your hands much warmer
especially when it's minus 20. And also talking about snowboarding and skiing gear. Take your
goggles with you when you go for activities like husky, dog sledding and also snowmobile. Your
snowboarding goggles will help you a lot. And also don't forget your neck warmer. When it's minus 13
it's absolutely fine. You don't really need it. But when it's minus 20 believe me your life will be
much better like this. You will keep your face warm. Take it. About filming equipment in the Arctic Circle
especially winter time. You need to have a special gear for filming at night. Sony ZV1 doesn't work
when it's getting dark. GoPro action camera gets super cold and the battery lasts for maybe for 10
minutes. I was using mainly iPhone. That was my camera number one. But if you have a specific
gear to film things during night time that's awesome. That's what's going to help you a lot.
You can also do dog sledding here. But as I did it already in Tromso in February this year I decided
to skip this activity and proceed with other ones. But I will be happy to show you the doggies though.
This is the dog yard. This is where the doggies live. Hello, Mr. Husky. Oh, Mr. Husky is so shy!
Mr. Husky! No, he doesn't want to talk to me. All right. This is the slate for Husky tour. One person
usually standing there and one person sitting there. Yes, I remember this bit I was told about
in Russia. Husky, all these Siberian dogs, the only part of their bodies which is getting cold
is their nose. That's why they can sleep on the snow. But when they sleep on the snow they need
to cover their nose. And I love these little fireplaces. There are several of those around
hotel areas and you can just spend some time over there getting a little bit warmer. Open fire,
reindeer skins. How romantic this is! Super warm, actually. Minus 21. My nose is totally red.
I'm a Rudolph. Two hours later. I will show you Husky puppies. Yes, they're little puppies.
Husky puppies. Hello, guys. Hello, little Husky. Oh, hello, hello. Today the weather is minus 21 Celsius
and I have my crab safari today as well at one. It's going to be dark, but I will try to film
as much as I can. And again, to go crab safari you need to change your clothes entirely. So,
I have my neck warmer on top of that. I'm putting my balaclava. Again, it's minus 21 Celsius
and you are good to go. And this is how it starts. Crab safari. And this is the gigantic
slate which will take us to the fjord for this crab fishing. Gigantic slate.
We are going to the fjord to crab safari and it's getting dark. Wow. 1 p.m.
And basically they are killing the fish and the crabs that are from this area
and therefore when you eat the king crab you're actually saving this environment. Let's give it
a try. It's my first time I'm having crab this way. Oh, wow. And this is the crab we just fished.
That's all mine, guys. That's how much we caught. I'm the hungriest person in the world.
Night number two. And tonight for dinner we have the starter, the same traditional bread,
homemade bread with a local butter, leek and potato soup as the first course. This is so
interesting. It's the first time I see an apple in leek and potato soup. Apple. Okay. The second
course is arctic chow. It's the fish coming from salmon family and some people might taste it.
Let's find out how good it is. And for the dessert we have a pie with rybap. What's really,
really good about that place as well, it has a great wi-fi. Guys, I tried to work here. I managed
to upload all the videos I needed for YouTube, which means that you cannot just have some
fantastic arctic rest here, but also you can carry on with your working activities. If you want to
join me for my next year arctic expedition, please drop me a comment below or contact me
directly via Instagram. Well, we can do something together. I would love some other bloggers to join
me in my little trips. Let me know if you're interested. An amazing thing about snow hotel
in Kirkenes is that you have a choice between a warm cabin and an actual ice hotel. Warm cabin
I already showed you in my previous video, but what about this guy? It's an actual ice hotel
made of real snow. I'm not staying myself in it this time, because I already had this experience
in February and you can see it with this video. I showed everything exactly the same principle,
works exactly the same way, but I will show you what's happening inside. Let's step in.
This one is definitely larger than the one I've been in Tromsø dorms. It has 13 rooms,
but the same principle, it has to be built from scratch every single year. It's all made of ice
and snow. The temperature is here stays minus four Celsius and this is the exact temperature
you have to sleep with. If you're curious how cold it feels to stay in an ice hotel, well,
easy option, just put your hat in your own fridge. It's going to be the same minus four,
minus five degrees Celsius.
Yes, this hotel is definitely bigger. You even have a reception here,
and Mr. Bear will check you in on arrival. You even have a porter here,
so you can ask the penguin to take care of your luggage.
I found real roses in this ice hotel. That's a really cool touch. They're frozen,
but smell so nice. It's time to check in and check our room, guys. Let's go. That's the room.
And this is the room where you're supposed to spend the night. Minus four degrees Celsius
and you will have your pillow, real mattress with bedsheet, skin and also you will be sleeping in
that sleeping bag. That's pretty much it. Simple. It's a little bit creepy though.
You're waking up and you see that face on the wall looking at you.
It's a little bit hard though. Shall we check some other rooms?
They all have different decorations. I like this one much more, guys. Yeah, let me show you.
Oh my god, it has an actual fireplace. Fireplace in an ice hotel. Cool. Also,
it has a massive bed for four people. Four people at once. Yeah, it's a party bed. Party bed.
It has a fireplace and two windows. Look how cool this is. Wow.
Oh my god, it's all of here. All of it's here. I love this picture. That would be my favorite
one. Obviously, it's all made of ice, but I have no idea how they made this effect
on the pictures on the ice using some snow.
Okay, this hotel, it has a toilet. It has a bathroom right here.
And a toilet paper.
It's a little bit frozen though. Yes, super cool. This is Ice Cinema.
That's a nice bar where you can have a drink in daytime.
The only northern lights I've seen so far in three days are those ones. The only little issue
I personally had with Snow Hotel in Kirkenes was a hairdryer. As a female, guys, winter time,
it was really complicated to use this device to dry my hair with this machine.
So, Snow Hotel in Kirkenes. Let's talk. I had a package for two nights with breakfast and
dinner included. The overall price was 10 000 Norwegian kuna, which is equivalent to 1 000
pounds. Euros, dollars are here. What else was included? Dog sledding, husky dog sledding and
also king crab fishing. Snowshoeing you can do for free. Snowshoes are displayed right outside
the cabins and you can take them any time of the day or rather night. Thank you so much,
guys, for spending my second day in a Snow Hotel in Kirkenes in the Arctic Circle of Norway with me.
I hope you enjoyed it. If you did, please hit that like button. Also, if you would like to
stay in Ice Hotel, this one, it's Snow Hotel. Again, no promotion, but still I will drop you
the link in the description to this video. Stay tuned, stay safe, be happy and get ready to travel
to Norway. Love you a lot. See you later, guys. Bye. Bye for now.
