Welcome back, welcome back to the show.
Hey friends, how are you?
I know you're in New York shooting a movie and you brought the great weather.
It's because of you.
Yeah.
Yes, it is.
This is like so aggressive, this weather.
Yeah, it's interesting, right?
It just came out of nowhere and just like...
It's so oppressive.
You know?
I don't know what to wear, what's going on, because last week was 30.
I know, because you look at the app every day and you're like, what is it going to be?
But you told me you like 30, 40 degrees.
My sweet spot, everybody has their temperature they thrive in.
Yes.
Mine is between 30 and 40 degrees.
How is that possible?
You're a California girl.
No, it just speaks to me.
I think it's because I'm a California girl.
It gives you a little edge.
Yeah.
You know?
Seasons.
It's a cycle of life.
I feel my death and then my rebirth.
Oh my God, wow.
That's so deep.
It's very, you know, it's like in your body.
It's in the root of your soul.
Yes.
What movie are you doing?
Can you tell us any details?
I'm doing a movie with Stephen Merchant.
I love Stephen Merchant.
He's so great.
He's so funny, man.
He's so funny.
Gosh.
He's so great.
So, yeah, I'm doing a film here with him.
I don't know the name of it yet.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
Perfect.
Yeah.
When you have a name, you have to come back and tell us.
Let you guys know.
Because you took a little break from acting, then you came back with this giant movie,
Back in Action.
Back in Action, one of Netflix's biggest movies of the year.
Congratulations.
Thank you.
Fantastic.
Thank you.
Broke records.
And now I heard rumor that maybe you're going to be back voicing Princess Fiona?
I am.
Yes.
A new Shrek movie.
You're doing the fifth Shrek.
Yes.
Can you believe it?
That's fantastic.
It's like two decades.
What's that?
Oh.
Great.
I forgot about that.
I'm no longer Princess Fiona.
Yeah, you're Queen Fiona.
You will address me as such.
Sorry.
I apologize.
I scolded a lot on my show tonight.
But I was going to ask you, do kids come up and freak out when they hear your voice at
the grocery store or something?
You know, it's really funny because parents are the ones who are like, honey, this is
Princess Fiona.
She does the voice for Princess Fiona.
And one time this little girl, she just looked at me and burst into tears.
Why?
She just started crying, bawling her eyes out.
And her mom's like, I'm so sorry.
I'm like, I really don't take it personally.
I would cry if I found out the voice.
They don't quite understand.
So I always tell parents, like, don't tell them.
Don't tell them.
You know, it's like Santa Claus.
Right?
Yeah.
But you do everything.
You do romantic comedies.
You do animation.
You do dramas.
Is there a genre that you haven't done that you want to do?
What's your dream job?
I think, um, you know what?
I've always wanted to do?
What?
Like, a season on FNL.
Like, a full season on FNL.
Like, from the beginning to the end.
Like, just become a cast member on.
Drew and I talked about it, like, 20 years ago.
But, like, doing a full season as a cast member on FNL would be so much fun.
I think the first time I met you was when you hosted FNL.
Yeah, yeah.
And you were fantastic.
It was so much fun.
I mean, I wouldn't host.
I'd be like, you know.
Just a cast member.
Ooh, Lauren.
Lauren!
We like this.
We so like this.
The audience likes this idea.
But I'm so tired now.
I don't think I could do it.
No, you could.
Please.
And, by the way, congrats on your wine, by the way.
Thank you.
Avaline is crushing.
Thank you.
I get it.
Yeah.
I buy it all the time.
But also, you send them to me as gifts.
Yeah.
Very nice of you.
You're welcome.
You know I like it.
Yeah.
I reciprocate because I get the avocado box.
Avocado toast.
No, but I love it so much.
But it's tough to have a wine take off.
And you put so much work into it.
And it's delicious.
And congrats.
And I always pretend like I know what I'm talking about.
Because I have all your wines at the house.
Oh, yeah.
I can see.
Yeah.
I need more vocabulary.
You know, I mean, look.
You could talk about the body of the wine.
You could talk about the palate.
Yes.
You know, where it hits you on the palate.
Oh, that's a good one.
The front of your palate.
Mid-palate.
Oh, this is hitting me.
Back of your palate.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You know?
Oh, my God.
That's fantastic.
I do love that.
Are you learning so much about it in the whole scene?
Yeah.
I mean, winemaking is a science.
It is.
It's amazing.
It's just, it's chemistry.
Yeah.
You know?
It's just, you do one thing, you get one result.
You do another thing, you get another.
And it's just sort of mad scientists.
But the winemakers are so incredible.
Well, congrats on this.
It's your fifth birthday.
So happy birthday to Amelie.
Thank you.
Great, great, great wine.
I love it.
But let's talk your new movie.
Okay.
Outcome is the name of the movie.
It's very funny.
It's also very intense.
It's co-written by Jonah Hill, our buddy.
And directed by Jonah Hill, who we love.
We love.
How do we set up what the movie is and who you play?
Keanu plays a character that's, his character is a movie star.
Oh.
Named Reef Hawk.
Yeah, great name.
And it's a great name.
Reef Hawk.
And he's going through this, something happens where he's
basically gets a phone call that is life changing, that could
really hurt his career.
Yeah.
And I play, along with Matt Bomer, his best friend.
Oh, he's so good.
I know, Matt's incredible.
Yeah, he crushes him.
We play his best friends since before he was a star.
Like, he was a child star.
Yeah.
But we've known him since he was a young teen.
So you can talk.
So we've been in it our whole lives together, basically.
These characters are loosely based on Jonah's real friends.
Yes, actually, completely.
So Ezra Woods, who also was one of the writers on it,
is Matt Bomer's character.
And mine is Kyle Applebaum, who is Kyle Applebaum,
who is like Jonah's friend.
It's not your first time working with Keanu.
It's not.
No, I worked with Keanu.
You did a movie called Stealing Minnesota back in 1996.
Come on.
Look at this.
Do you remember your first impression?
That was my fourth film.
And I was working with Keanu Reeves.
And I was so green.
I was literally like,
oh my God, please don't remember that we were together 30 years ago.
Even though I've seen him since.
I'm like, please don't remember.
Did he remember?
He did.
Isn't that so crazy?
What did he say?
He was like, hey, I remember you did that.
You know what?
Keanu's just a lovely human being.
He's exactly the same.
Still hits the three shot.
We play basketball together.
He's got a great three pointer.
And I'm up to dunking now.
Oh, wow.
Congratulations.
It's good to see you guys.
We didn't get out on the court together.
It's just like old times.
It's magic.
It's fun to watch.
I want to show everyone a clip.
Here's Cameron Diaz in Outcome.
Take a look at this.
How are you going to frame the five years thing?
Also, I should literally be a famous ass interviewer.
Even when I'm fake interviewing, I'm like incredible at it.
Incredible.
Thank you.
So what are you going to say about the five years thing?
Well, I was thinking I was going to say
I've been working since I was six and needed a break
and that I needed to find out who I was away from all this.
I love that.
That works, totally.
I won't say that I was hiding a heroin addiction from the public
and that my best friends from high school
and my insane lawyer helped me cover it up for years
so no one ever found out.
That is a really smart omission.
A strong omission.
No admish.
You're going to be amazing, babe.
You got this.
Yeah, I'm very lucky to have you two.
That's a good omission, not admish.
Do something fun after the break.
Stick around, everybody.
