Join me as I spend the day trying some of the best cheap eats in London 🇬🇧
From budget street food to hidden gems and affordable spots locals love, I’m exploring where you can eat well in London without spending a fortune.
London is known for being expensive… but are there actually good cheap eats that are worth it?
If you’re visiting London or just looking for affordable food spots that actually taste amazing, this video will help you decide what’s worth your money.
Hello foodies, today we're doing cheap eats in London
and all of these places are going to be under £10.
Now you might be asking, foodie how is that possible?
Well, come along and find out. Let's go.
Foodies, let's start with a cheap brekkie at Rise and Dine.
Let's go in and have a traditional English breakfast.
I have to say the interior is absolutely crazy.
It's like proper old English diner.
The even little details on the window sills are thought about.
They're so cool.
I don't know, I just love like these kind of like old style diners.
They do have a bakery section at the back
but their breakfast items are quite cheap.
I can't really get that menu which I wanted because it's got sausage in it.
Traditional British breakfasts, they come with pork.
So I'm going to get the veggie option though.
They have a set for veggie option which is for £8.49.
Let's grab that.
Foodies, I do want to say the main breakfast they have,
the classic brekkie, that set menu one is actually £7.99
and they have everything in it.
Honestly, everything that you look for in a full English breakfast
which is smoked bacon, sausage, eggs, beans, tomato, mushroom,
chips and hash browns and bread on toast.
If you tell me to say that again, I won't be able to.
I'll probably mess it up.
They look good.
I don't see anything above a tenner actually, the whole menu.
Just pan it around, nothing's more than a tenner.
Foodies, this is picture perfect.
If I've ever seen an English breakfast looking anything better than this, I'll be lying.
But we're going to go through what they have.
Veggie sausages, the beans on the bottom, two eggs, fried,
hash browns, mushroom on the bottom, tomatoes, toast.
What else do you want?
That's all.
Honestly, I feel so bad even digging into it.
All right, let's taste sausages first.
You usually get like black pudding.
Yeah, you get black pudding, you get your bacon.
I don't have that, unfortunately.
But you could get it for even cheaper than what I got my veggie for.
It's amazing.
Got a nice bite to it.
The beans are perfectly cooked.
I mean, you can't ever go wrong with English breakfast before.
Got some ketchup on the side.
Put some ketchup there.
Dip it in there.
It's such a good crunch.
Inside is so soft.
This is the greatest start to the day.
So substantial.
Literally hits to the heart.
Honestly, my British heart is quivering right now.
I'm so happy.
Foodies, how do you like your tea?
Which one do you prefer?
I'm just going to pan it to you.
I prefer the one on the bottom second one.
It's such a great way to start with a cheap and cheerful breakfast.
So let's go to our next location.
Foodies, of course, the next place is going to be a fish and chips place
because you can't go to London and not get fish and chips.
This place has an offer at lunchtime.
So it's from 12 to 2.
And they have a cod and fish for £6.
And it looks like this.
Look at that.
Oh, that's a big one.
I wasn't expecting that.
All right, let's have a taste.
Foodies, I forgot to mention, by the way, this is Johnny's Fish and Chips.
Look, every time I go to places, I always forget where I am.
I always assume you guys already know.
But basically, I wasn't expecting this much of a portion.
That's a lot of chips.
And that is a big portion of a fish, you know.
Look, I got the dad and the son or the mum and the daughter.
I don't know which one you would say.
That's actually pretty crispy on the outside.
I'm going to say like, look at that.
That is delicious.
I need some vinegar or something.
Maybe I need ketchup.
That's what I need.
Dip the son.
That's a bit weird to say, but that's delicious, man.
I still can't believe £6.
I think we're like 30, 20 minutes away from Central, actually, with the bus.
The outside is really, really crispy.
It's got a really nice batter on the outside.
The inside is really flaky.
That cod is delicious.
It has a really nice taste.
You know, when I was talking about that fish and chips taste from a chippy,
it has that taste.
It really does.
And it tasted so good.
I'm going to taste the chips as well.
The chips is just an ordinary chippy chips.
Chippy chips.
Some ketchup on there.
Oh yeah, that's good.
I don't know why I didn't show a cross-section.
The inside is so soft.
So oily.
So good.
That is a good fish and chips.
Basically, the classic.
Can't believe, yeah, I got two pieces of cod.
A big chunk of chips on the side for £6.
You know what?
This is redemption from Borough Market, guys.
The fact that I paid £6.95 in Borough Market for a mediocre fish and chips
was crazy already on my behalf.
I'm going to enjoy this meal so much.
3D is right next to Elephant and Castle Station.
Literally across the road is this place right behind me.
The Striandina or something like that.
It's a Latin market inside.
Basically, you can get all your Latin goods.
It isn't part of the list, but basically, we saw this sign over here.
They're selling six pieces of Buenuelos.
Let me try again.
They're selling Buenuelos for £5 and they look big.
They're like big balls and they fry them.
We're going to try them out.
This is where the Latin food is.
So we just want to pop in and get something like a little snack
before we get the actual food.
But we do have another place to go to in Elephant and Castle,
which is literally like a seven-minute walk from here.
If you're like me, if you walk really slow like a tortoise.
All right, let's open up.
Look at that.
That is hefty, by the way.
They're huge.
It's almost like a tennis ball shape, the best way I can explain it.
Very crispy on the outside.
I feel like it's going to taste like a Nigerian puffer.
I mean, puffers are much smaller, but this one would do some damage to someone.
I mean, it is crispy.
I mean, you can make a dent, obviously, but you know.
Wow, so airy.
I think brekkie.
It's not sweet, though, but it's very airy, very soft on the inside.
Look at that.
That is perfect.
It's almost like cakey texture, but no sweetness to it.
The outside is a little bit chewy, almost like a mochi-esque sort of.
This will be good, yeah, if you get like a condensed milk or something
or like a sweet syrup or something on top of this.
That would be so good.
It would be amazing with a breakfast.
If you get tea with this and a bit of like maple syrup or something.
This is really good, though.
This is a great breakfast item.
Five pounds for six of these big, huge donut balls that are called
buenelos.
This is a proper local spot, by the way.
There is a restaurant at the back that I saw.
Market area at the front.
There's also a really nice bakery section at the very front.
They have this really nice custard donut that I had my eyes on,
but I feel like I'm being a bit greedy, so I'm going to stop myself.
But they do have a lot of donuts and lots of pastries and stuff going on there.
So definitely check this place out.
It's under ten pounds.
It's actually under...
Majority of things that I saw is actually under five pounds.
I'm challenging myself to the max today.
Food is...
Honestly, before we even get to the actual place, I find so many good deals.
Charred chicken.
And this place has a three pound wrap.
Mate, I just saw someone grabbing for lunch and people actually waiting for the wrap.
It actually looks pretty good.
I saw the man loading up with lots of chicken.
Three pounds for a wrap.
Mate, can't even get from one place to another for three pounds.
Food is...
We're here at Shawarma Hut and this place does the sickest meal set I've ever seen.
A very neat set, as I would call it.
And they make it for 4.99.
So it comes with this set here and they have the chicken shawarma.
The chips and the pickles on the side.
And you also get a drink but I got water because...
Yeah, it's a long day today.
But you can basically pick any drink that you want.
Any soft drinks you want.
We're gonna taste it.
But it honestly looks piled.
Like there's a pile of chips over here.
That looks very good.
Let's open it up.
By the way Foodies, this place, his owner doesn't make any profits out of his business.
He does it for the local community.
But it looks...
Oh my god.
That looks so good.
These are two offers by the way.
I mean, I got the lunch offer but there's also an evening offer.
Lunch offer also is from 11.30 to 5 p.m.
Mate, what lunch is that?
People having like some snacks in between.
But there's also an evening offer which is for 5.99.
That's from 5 to 11 p.m.
And basically you can get a boneless chicken with chips and salad as well.
And then drink next to it.
Which is also a very neat offer.
I can see a lot of chicken in there.
Lots of sauce.
Tomatoes.
Cucumbers.
Let's go.
That's so juicy.
I like that a lot.
That chicken inside is so juicy.
So nicely seasoned.
The garlic sauce, the tum that they use inside of it is so delicious.
Tomato and lettuce creates that nice crunch and nice freshness inside of it.
It's so so good.
The bread is nice and soft.
I don't really taste the bread too much because honestly it's so stuffed.
All I taste is chicken in my mouth.
I'm not complaining.
Let's have a little chips.
Nice chips too.
That is crispy and so soft on inside.
Did I really pay 4.99 for all of this?
That's crazy.
Because I worked around here every day.
You've seen me coming here.
You've seen me lining up every lunchtime.
Find me sitting in this place, eating some shawarma and getting fat.
Everything is house made.
It is, yeah.
Everything is made here by the way.
So everything is fresh.
There's no shortcuts used basically.
Alright foodies, I'm going to tell you this.
This is making me so sad.
I was trying to get a small pizza the other day from my local chicken and chips shop.
And Bosman said it's 7.99.
Mate, when I was a kid, I used to pay 1.99 for that.
So to think that you could pay a little small pizza for 7.99
but a whole meal for 4.99 says a lot about London already.
This would at least cost in central London, we're talking, maybe like 15, 16 pounds.
It's that good.
It's really good.
The quality is amazing.
Bread has got oil on it.
I really thought about how delicious this is going to taste.
But it's a very addicting taste.
When you have a bite, you want to have another bite.
Let's get some garlic, put it on the side.
Let's get some of that chilli as well and put it on there.
And he's bringing another one.
Thank you so much.
What is this one?
This is made by the whole herbals, aloo oil and little chilli.
Alright, perfect.
Thank you so much.
Let's use this one as well.
So this is the chilli one.
I mean, look at that though.
That's a rainbow in its own.
Let's have a big bite.
How can something get better?
What the hell?
Really good.
Thank you so much.
Those sauces elevated it.
So if it was a 10, it's now 100.
You know what sauce I taste the most though?
That chilli one.
It looks like a peri-peri sauce a little bit.
But basically, it's got like vinegary chilli and it's got a little bit of kick to it.
My expectations were very low, but this has 100% surpassed my expectations.
This is so, so good.
Let's finish this off because I definitely can finish this off
and go to our next location, which is another British classic.
Foodies, we're here at the G. Kelly
and this place was established by George Kelly.
And that was in 1938.
I need to actually check that, you know.
I might be saying that wrong.
I got it wrong.
It's 1939.
So it's almost going to be about...
91 years?
93?
80.
Oh, I was way off.
89 years.
Something like that.
I'll put it on the screen.
Maths is not my greatest thingamajig.
And since then, they've been serving up pie mash and liquor.
Now, liquor is not the liquor you're talking about.
It's not alcoholic.
It's this saucy gravy with parsley in it.
It's very jiggly.
And I feel like if you haven't had pie and mash, you haven't been to London.
That's how I feel like.
This is a British classic.
And what you do is basically you flip it over like so.
You just open up.
And inside, there should be some mincemeat.
Oh, look at that.
That is dark.
And then you get this.
The chili vinegar.
And you pour it in.
And then a bit of salt.
A bit of pepper.
And then you close it up just like this.
I've done a good job.
I'm so proud of myself.
I haven't had pie and mash since the oldest restaurants in London video.
Why?
No.
It's really good.
Listen to me.
If you've had it since primary or secondary school, you'll love this.
Oh, bloody bready as well.
The mashed potato is so creamy.
So smooth.
The pie itself is a little bit doughy on the bottom.
Which it should be.
Because it's been sitting on the liquor for a while.
But not like the off-putting doughiness.
The bottom is quite crunchy.
Like if I turn it over, it's still got that crunch to it.
As you can see, it's very flaky.
The inside is really delicious.
It's really simple to be fair.
It's just a bit of like mincemeat.
What brings everything together is the liquor.
That liquor is so, so creamy.
For some people, it might be off-putting because it looks very gloopy.
But that's how it's meant to be.
There is one more thing they do on the menu.
And that is jellied eel.
Every single Pie & Mash place does jellied eel.
If you haven't watched the oldest restaurants in London, you should watch it.
I did try a jellied eel there.
But I'm not about to try one here.
Because I don't like it.
I mean that, I would agree with the Americans.
That's prison food.
Eel.
Like literally eel.
Yeah.
I am also going to get something for myself.
I'm a sweet tooth.
No, it's for me.
But I can always get extra, right?
And that is apple crumble foodies.
Because honestly, this dessert, I love it.
And also, this is for my own entertainment, to be fair.
But it is quite cheap as well.
It's like 3.90, I think.
That's how much I paid.
Let's put the custard on it.
So that's the crumble on there.
Apple inside on the bottom.
Then pour the custard.
Why does our thing never look aesthetic?
It just looks gloopy.
Look at that.
What the hell?
The crumble is so nice and crumbly.
You get that nice bite.
It's almost like a biscuit.
On the bottom, the apple is really sweet.
But it's got that slight like sourish taste as well.
That comes from like a natural, when you cook the apple.
That's really delicious.
The custard, no words.
I'm gonna leave it there.
It's creamy.
It's amazing.
I love it.
I love custard.
I need me time.
So go away.
I said go away.
Foodies, we came to Porterford.
And these people have been here since...
Oh my god.
Have a good day, mate.
And these guys have been here since 1983.
And they do one of the best sandwiches.
I haven't come here before.
But my friends have told me to check this place out.
It's more of a like corporate area.
And you can see there's a nice view.
Foodies, the view here is crazy.
Look at that.
That's so pretty.
And they usually do like beef sandwiches, pork sandwiches and chicken sandwiches.
And I got this baguette chicken sandwich for £8.
I know comparing this to the last place we went to,
it's a little bit more pricier technically.
We just paid £5.99 for a whole meal.
And this is just the baguette.
But this place is right next to St Paul's.
Which is a very, very posh and expensive area.
They are butchers.
And so everything is fresh.
They make everything on the day.
And they finish off.
I came really late.
So there's only like a tiny bit of things left.
But I do want to taste the baguette.
So it's crispy, nice baguette on the outside.
And then stuffed with chicken thighs.
That is delicious.
What the hell?
The chicken is quite tender.
It is gone a little bit dry.
And that's just because...
Solely because I'm very late.
I'm not gonna lie.
If I came quite early,
I'm sure this would have been right out of the grill.
But just the way it is,
it is so smoky on the outside.
You can see like there's a bit of char on there.
Very, very tender.
It's got this lovely like sweetness to it.
I feel like they've used a little bit of barbecue sauce on it.
That's definitely been marinated.
But that is delicious.
You can taste the quality.
But the bread is absolutely delicious as well.
A little fluffy on the inside.
Baguette crunchiness on the outside.
Foodies, this is the one I was going for.
It's the Loaded Dirty Potatoes Chili Cheesecake.
And Jalapeno Sour Cream Salsa.
And a can of drink which was £8.50.
That's what I was going for.
But I was a little bit late for it.
So if you come early,
earlier than me,
then you can definitely get yourself a nice...
Yeah, within this area £8.50 is literally a bargain.
Foodies, we're here at Eco Pizza,
which is right behind me.
And this place does inexpensive pizzas
for even less than £5.
Let's go in and check it out.
Let's see if it's worth it.
This is marinara and it's £3.95.
It's just got tomato sauce on it and some oregano.
I'm going to put some chili oil on it as well,
just to make it a little bit more seasoned.
It's really thin crust though.
And it looks really good.
The bottom, perfectly cooked.
Very nice and crispy.
That's actually pretty good.
I would say that's pretty substantial.
They didn't skip on the tomato sauce or anything.
But I feel like it's a little bit too sour for my liking.
I feel like the tomato sauce could have been
more sweeter than more sour.
It's a little bit one-dimensional.
There is no cheese on it.
So it's not going to make an Italian person happy.
The margherita pizza, that was like £7.50 or something.
I'm sure that would have been better.
If I was looking for a snack, midnight snack,
I think this will be it.
But if I was looking for an actual meal,
I wouldn't go for this one.
Foodies, this is the last location, Italia Uno.
Where are you pointing?
I don't know.
Where are you pointing for that show?
Foodies, this is the last location
and it's Italia Uno.
This might be the cheapest Italian restaurant.
And we're going to go taste some pasta.
Foodies, we sat outside because the inside is quite dark.
I have to say it has a very interesting aesthetic to it.
I could tell it's old place.
Like it's a bit run down to be fair.
And I feel like it's a little bit messy inside.
I feel like that adds to the charm of a place.
Like I like a little bit run down.
If that makes sense, like I know that's a bit weird.
I'm just going to assume that because it's run down,
the food is going to taste better.
By the way, this is central side.
So I'm quite surprised.
We are like five minutes walk-ish.
If you count me in, I would say 10 minutes
from Warren Street Station, which is pretty much central.
By the way, there's a Turkish flag there.
Just quickly point it out.
Goodbye.
Foodies, this is what it looks like.
It does look like something I make at home.
I might have just done it like in two minutes.
We can't judge until we eat it.
So let's have a taste.
It looks really creamy though.
It's got a lot of parmesan on top of it.
And let's taste the creamy part first.
It smells good to be fair.
It's really good.
What the hell?
Okay, I'll say the way it is.
It's definitely not something I'll make at home.
It's better.
That pasta is really creamy, really nice and flavoured.
And then the parmesan on top,
it creates that nice saltiness to come through.
And the pasta is quite al dente as well.
So it's not like overcooked.
Let's also taste the bolognese side.
Oh, it's good.
You shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
The bolognese side is very tomatoey and very, very fresh.
Like I can taste like, not sour.
No, they definitely used fresh tomatoes in there
because there's no like sour taste going on.
Like the seasoning they used is absolutely well balanced.
I don't need to add anything to it.
The creamy pasta side though, that's my favourite.
Because look at that.
I mean, that's dripping with sauce.
So this is actually a good portion in my eyes.
I feel like if you eat this, you'll be full.
And if you are agreed, like a cameraman mind,
and you want two, still not too bad to be fair.
It's like £11.80.
What is it then?
What in the mess? £10.80?
No, it's not.
£5.40 times two.
That's what I said.
I said £10.80.
We're done.
Like people telling words.
It's the end of today foodies.
And we did cheap pizza in London, which were under £10.
If you like this video, please like and subscribe.
And I'll see you in the next one.
Bye.
