My team of course is the best team, Chelsea.
Oh no, what was it, Liverpool?
This is where we go over all of our lines.
This bus was actually made by Travis Barker.
And this room was actually made for the bed to go up,
he could set up his drum set.
Aloha everyone, it's Makua,
and I want to invite you to come and check out our bus on the road.
What's up guys, it's Makua.
I'm here with G-Love on tour, 10th anniversary, Lemonade Tour.
We got an awesome bus.
I want to invite you guys inside to check it out and see how we live on the road.
This is Jimmy Messer right here, producer, guitarist, extraordinaire.
One of the guys that believed in me from the beginning
when I was laying on his couch, all blown out, couldn't even move.
And he said, if you're serious, I'm going to match you minute for minute.
And now we're here today on the road and we'll see what happens.
In the back here, we got Mr. Luke Benchivengo, the little drummer boy.
And he's the one that sets up this bus.
All the technical stuff, the PlayStations, the TVs.
I mean, I even got him right here studying and making sure he knows exactly what we do
and how to do it.
And so these TVs run 24 hours a day and it's only me on TV.
They have to study and make sure they learn the protocol and how to do it.
So like I said, 24 hours a day, they're watching, I'm talking.
And we could put the football game on.
Football game, I don't know, maybe it's going to be a hard sell today.
But my boy Ryan Vandermark is on the bills right now.
They're in the playoffs and we're going to go and support him.
So yeah, you can change this.
And they got lucky for today.
Lucky the boys are playing.
I want to introduce you guys to Kaz.
This is our tour manager, the man that really keeps the operation going on the road.
And it's such a blessing to have this guy on the road with me
because not only does he keep our operations going,
but if anything wants to go down,
I know this man will be back to back with me all the way through whatever happens.
And I really appreciate this guy being on tour.
I also appreciate all these other guys just as much too, just so you know.
So I just wanted to make it a little more private in here for you folks.
So Jim, you want to hit the switch and close up that front door?
Of course.
You want the curtains?
No, we're good like this.
Thank you.
So we got three TVs, as you can see in the front lounge.
Gaming, movies, TV shows, football games.
And of course, me.
We've been playing a lot of EA Sports FC, which is a soccer game.
My team, of course, is the best team, Chelsea.
Oh no, what was it, Liverpool?
I don't even know what my team is.
That's how good I am at it.
But if you go on my YouTube, I smoked Luke and that's all that really matters.
But gaming, like I said, football games, TV shows.
I mean, what are your guys' teams?
What do you guys like to play?
The real rivalry is right here.
This is a non-stop.
I smoked Elijah twice this morning.
You guys are playing like the greatest hits, right?
I was Arsenal.
Good team.
He was some bullshit team.
Manchester, baby.
Let's go.
I don't get involved in these matters.
Yeah, my daughter would know soccer a lot better than me.
I just make like I'm pressing buttons.
I press all the buttons and somehow it works out.
So that's one thing.
It's better to be lucky than good.
Remember that.
Well, right here we got our little galley.
Of course, it's coffee on coffee.
Jimmy, you know what?
In fact, Jimmy's going to make us a coffee while we're filming this right now.
While I take you through this.
It's my official capacity.
This is official barista right here.
We got all the, you know, amenities.
Of course, we got to get the Momofuku chili crunch.
Without that, I don't know, life's not the same.
Local roaster.
Where was that?
St. Louis.
Right here we got two refrigerators.
So we got one right here.
That's what they drink.
That kind of stuff.
And we got some other stuff in here.
Of course, the beers for the beer drinkers.
And there's a freezer down there.
I'm not sure if there's anything in there.
Some fruits.
In the front galley, of course, we got the table, the work table, the planning table.
This is where we go over all of our lines.
But I'm a sober guy, so I can joke about it.
But yeah, this really plays a big role.
There's not that many seats when we're on the road.
And there were a lot of people coming through.
We want to make sure that we utilize all the space.
Business goes down, phone calls, meetings, whatever it is.
The boys got to bust out the printer, print, set list, I mean, merch.
All that stuff goes down right here.
So our little meeting space.
So our bus, when we're going down the road, is usually a lot smaller.
There's a little alley here.
Right now, we got the slides popped out.
We're blessed to have two slides.
One in the front and one in the back, which I'll show you later.
But right now, this thing slides out, turns into a fully functioning meeting room, guest room.
You know, after the shows, we might invite some people on here, have some fun,
show them the bus as well, entertain some family and friends.
And it's great to have a bus that actually slides out in two places.
So that's kind of really the breakdown of how this goes up front.
I'm also Luke's trash guy.
Which as you can see, I live with a bunch of, you know, a few children on here.
Just like at home, I always got to tell them to take out the trash.
And I thought they would have done that by now.
But hey, you know, stranger things have happened.
I'm just playing.
We got our humidifier here.
I am a chronic asthmatic my whole life.
Since I was a child, I couldn't breathe.
I was in the hospital nine months out of the year.
So in these dry climates, you know, I come from Hawaii where it's a lot more humid and
moisture in the air.
So I like to keep that going 24 hours a day.
Keeps me feeling better.
Keeps me more able to breathe and keeps the asthma at bay in these drier conditions.
So I really appreciate the boys for always keeping this going.
In this cabinet right here, coffee mugs.
Oh, see that?
The greatest letter ever written.
That's right.
I got yours.
I got one of those too.
There you go.
Jimmy, we're going to make one for all the boys right now, you know.
Anytime you're on tour with us...
Try to keep the germs to their own host.
Well, anytime you're on tour and a part of our show, we like to create ohana.
And with all the crazy stuff that's going on in the world, I like people to forget,
you know, the outside world and really feel a part of something different.
I want them to feel part of our ohana.
And every one of you that are out there that come to our shows, we're ohana forever.
And I really appreciate the love and support for everybody coming on.
That's why one of the big messages behind what we do is to bring everybody together
and feel part of something that's greater than themselves.
And we want to create that ohana spirit.
So thank you guys always for the love and support on the road.
So as you all know, for the snack eaters, we got the snack jar.
Chips, seaweed, protein powder.
I don't think you can call these protein bars.
Not really, but some more chips.
And yeah, some of you out there that are snackers, we got the snack jar for y'all.
So right here, moving on a little more back, we got our climate control,
which is very temperamental.
And we love her all our hearts.
So please bless us with staying nice and even minded,
kind of like my guitar player, very calm and even minded.
Of course, everybody's favorite spot, the bathroom.
There is one rule on the road, and I'm sure you guys heard this before.
And I'm going to say it straight.
You cannot take a ---- on the bus.
Not on this bus anyway.
Come on back.
We got the bunk room.
Yeah, thou shall not ----.
We're here in the middle of the bus, the bunk room.
We're blessed to have these super clean, nice bunks that they take care of so well.
Well, these bunks are pretty special.
There's only six bunks.
A lot of buses have 12 bunks.
These bunks turn into apartment style bunks.
You can make them bigger and smaller depending on how many people you got on the bus.
So right now, we only got five of us on here.
So four bunks are being used, stretched out.
They got nice Tempur-Pedic mattresses for the boys.
Air vents and all the good stuff for the boys to be comfortable.
That's one thing I really like to stress on the road,
especially when I'm on tour, is that everybody's comfortable.
Everybody's feeling good and healthy.
There's a healthy, happy band, jams, amazing.
So I like to take care of the boys and get them as much rest as they can.
So now that you guys have seen the rest of the bus, it's time to jump into my room,
the master suite, which is just like I said, a master suite.
I mean, big bed, big old queen size bed, another bathroom.
We have a shower in this room, which is used as a closet
because we don't have as much space for everybody's stuff.
So we like to put it in there.
We use this makeshift closet, makeshift shower.
You know, it doubles just in case it gets cold on the road
and any one of us need to wash off, we can jump in there and wash off.
I got another refrigerator right here.
Of course, you already know what time it is.
Oh, Monster Energy time, baby, always.
So I got some chicken in here, chicken, sweet potatoes and broccoli.
I always hear, oh, it's so hard to eat clean on the road.
I always gain weight on the road, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
It ain't hard when you make the choice to be conscious about what you eat.
I got some organic raw cheese in here, some guacamole, a bunch of waters, some sodas,
a magic black bag that I'm sure all of you would like to look into.
But it's like the black book.
If you know, you know.
Oh, I'll move on to a little closet here with my show clothes, some of the stuff, some jackets,
some of the boys, you know, hanging up some pants, some heated jackets in here.
Up here in the northern part of the country, it gets really cold.
So I got some leathers and some Aloha shirts to wear on stage.
A little show clothes drawer.
Check this drawer out.
You're going to like this one.
This is where I keep all of my supplements, papaya enzymes.
I got oregano oil.
I mean, you name it.
All the turmeric, CoQ10, everything for the joints.
Because, you know, at the end of the day, if the Eddie Aikau big wave surfing championship
goes off, I have to leave tour for a few days, fly back to Hawaii, win another big wave title,
and then come back on tour.
So I got to keep my health on point.
I got to keep myself training and make sure that I'm conscious about that.
Because those waves are really, really big and I got to do what I got to do.
So moving on back, I got one more TV here.
Check this out.
So that's four TVs all together.
This one's pretty bright when it goes on.
Some more watching live performances.
I like to lay down at night and watch some of the greats do their thing because
you want to study what the greatest ever did.
And for me, I like to watch a lot of live performances,
a lot of the great guys, how they get into it.
Because sometimes for me, personally, it's not about what I see or hear.
It's what I feel through their performances, that energy that they bring.
I like to emulate that and make my own version of what some of the greatest ever did.
So that's why I got it done surfing.
And we're going to do that in music too.
Pillows are very important to me.
All nice, down, soft pillows.
Of course, a few thick blankets because it gets cold.
And back here, we got some more storage space, some remotes, some more towels.
And some more towels back here.
You know how it is.
Some of these venues, their towels are pretty skimpy.
So I like to bring my own towels.
I mean, pretty standard back here in the bathroom.
This is my travel case.
Keep my skin fresh, my teeth brushed, my body clean.
And yeah, it's fairly straightforward.
This bus, Once Upon a Time, it's a special bus.
This bed actually folds up.
You can set up a drum set and all of this stuff in here.
We use it on our days off to record.
We're actually in the process of finishing my first full-length album.
And this bus was actually made by Travis Barker.
And this room was actually made for the bed to go up.
You can set up his drum set in here and jam and all that stuff.
So mahalo, brother, brother Travis out there for making such an awesome bus
that we love and appreciate.
And I want to say thank you to you guys for coming in
and checking out Life on the Road with Makua.
Aloha.
