Hey everybody, it's Pam at the Paper Outpost and here we are in the new year and maybe you've got
some of this laying around. This is packing that comes in boxes. It gets delivered to your house.
Maybe you've got a bunch of it. Let's see if we can do something with it. I come across this
stuff all the time. I get a lot of stuff from Amazon and it's honestly in the Amazon boxes a lot
but it's perfectly good. Delivered free to your door crafting supplies which we all love.
So here we go. All right, so I had a few ideas with this and I'm going to see if I can do this.
Let me just back up. I need some elbow room for this but I'd like to make this into a
small journal. Mine is very long. I don't know if I'm going to need all of it. It's
maybe a little taller than I need. Do I need to maybe fold it in half?
So I'm thinking, remember I'm going to make a small journal and this is going to be
everything. We're going to make the signature pages, the cover, like everything, the basic
structure from this. So like I said, mine is very, very, very long. You might not have this much but
I don't think we're going to use the whole thing so that's okay. So I'm going to grab,
where did I just put it? Where? Where? Oh, where? Oh, hang on. So I'm going to use a crafting,
hang on. There we go. Crafting knife and ruler. And to get started here I think it's going to be
the easiest way to do it. I might use my guillotine cutter. And just so you know,
this is probably going to be about just shy of six inches tall so it's going to be a smaller journal.
Um, let me see, maybe I don't even need to cut that out. Maybe I can fold that
and that can become part of the cover. That would be kind of cool. All right, I'm going to try to do
minimal effort but maximum, maximum reward. Where did my glue stick go? Oh, I know where it is. Hold
on. Okay, so I've grabbed all my glues. Here's my glue stick. Let me stick this down. Wait,
getting a different idea. Is that the best way to fold it or should I make a middle fold?
All right, rethinking something. It's already got wrinkles so that's okay. Maybe I'll even
want to wrinkle it up more. I'm not sure yet but let me maybe do a tube fold instead. And a tube
fold is this. And that way the tops and the bottoms have finished seams. I kind of like that
idea. That's gonna go well for us here. Let's see. It's a little tricky to keep everything.
Maybe I will cut this off. I like that idea of folding it in but it's a little bit much at this
point so cut it off there. This is either gonna work or it's not. Let's see what happens. All
right, this is me just goofing around with a lot of paper. Okay, I think these pretty much meet in
the middle so let's see. Let's see. We'll get it started. If it goes awry, as sometimes things do
in the paper crafting world, we can always start again because we have more paper. Okay, so here
we go. And I like the idea of the the torn edge showing there because it's sort of a rustic theme.
I need real scissors. It seems like everything I own is dull right now because I've just used
it so much so I'm not very good at sharpening anything. Maybe something like that. We can always
cover it up, right? That's right. So let's just do that. Let's glue this all down. All right,
a nice good solid glue stick will take care of that. Okay, so now we have that. I'm just
gonna keep doing this a little further down the pipe. I need enough of this to make pages.
If I don't get it, I don't even know how this is gonna work in my mind,
but I think it, I think it is. So stay tuned. Let's see what happens to the,
um, what do you call this? Wrapping paper? Stuffing papers? Or like craft paper? Okay,
that's going well. Okay, so we can do a little more of that down the middle. Okay, that's good.
All right, and I like the wrinkles. I don't want it to be too perfect.
We may end up covering all this. We may not. I don't know. Hmm. Yeah, I'm thinking maybe I
shouldn't have done that, but because it might not work with pages, but it's all good. Let's
just see what happens. Let's keep going. Let's not interrupt the creative flow here. This is
great. I've got 75 feet of good stuff. I don't even remember what came in it. Probably a,
like a small thing, like a tube of mascara or something like that. You know how they,
they always put so much wrapping and everything, which as a crafter is a blessing.
All right. Okay, so now I've just, I've, I've altered what I'm doing in my brain. This happens
all the time when I'm crafting and feel free to do that yourself. It is allowed. It's not illegal
and good things can come of it. I think I'm going to just make the cover first
and then the signatures. Yeah, that's what I was going to do. I was going to do this
whole accordion thing, but I think, I think this is a better idea. Okay. So let me
just cut this off and out of this, we're going to build the cover. I mean, I think
this is going to be a very simple concept. This is going to be, this is what we're going to do.
We're going to go like this. We're going to put it to the center. It's going to get a little thicker
because I want my cover to be a little bit thicker. All right. And then I think we're
going to go like this and then we're going to go like this. Don't you love it when somebody like
hasn't fully thought through something, but they're showing you anyway. I mean, do you get
frustrated or do you like to know exactly what you're doing in and out and be, be off with you
to other directors? Yeah, you're probably on the wrong channel. Um, it's okay though. So sometimes
everything is prethought and then sometimes we wing it. So now I have a thicker cover.
So I guess I'm just going to go ahead and glue that down because I'm okay with that. I can live
with that. I just put some glue on here. I think it's going to be fine. Yeah. Lots of glue, lots
of glue, more glue. And when you think you don't have enough glue, you pull out some more glue.
Okay. So let's see how that goes. And I like, I love the crinkly sound of,
and feel of craft paper. I think there's something ultra cool about it. It's a, I mean,
I'm familiar with it from grocery bags, like grocery store, grocery bags back in the day. Yes.
Back in the day. Okay. So then we were going to go like that. Okay. So let's do that. That hasn't
yet. Okay. I'm getting other ideas, but I want to stay. I'm going to stick with this idea. Don't,
don't run all over. Don't be a goose, Pam. Like just stay focused and glue this together. Okay.
Is that open? Is that open? No, I don't know why I folded that one down. Okay. So now I have a cover
of relative substance. I mean, it makes a nice little booklet, we shall say, but I would like
to reinforce this. So I think what I'm going to do, I'm going to take some more of this.
Okay. It's just going to tear a nice piece. Yeah, that's good. Oh, it didn't tear right.
Gosh, darn it. That's okay. It's going to be fine. And then I think I'm gonna do tube design.
All right. Try and get it even Pam. All right. Tube design. And then, you know what? Let's fold
that in. Get a little nail. Fold it. And then fold it again and see what we have. Okay. I can
fold this in. What I'm making is a thickness to a spine. That's what I'm doing. That's the goal.
I don't know if this is really going to work. I'm trying it. It's like I'm doing this.
That's kind of cool. Maybe I don't want to put that on yet because I want to put my signatures
in first. Yeah, put that over there. So we may reinforce this. I think we will need to reinforce
this. I do want to put something structurally here. I think that would be very good idea.
And since I'm working with this, why don't I use some of this? So I'm back over here
getting some more of this. I think I want to, yeah, bridge it. You know what I mean? Give it
some extra oomph. All right. Yeah, I think we got to do this. All right. Something like that.
There. I feel good about that. So that is actually going to be the inside. That's the plan.
All right. So let me cut this straight as I can. It's not that straight. I'm going to use that as
the top and this bottom. I think I cut it too short now. That's okay. That's okay. It's a
little short. It's going to be on the inside. That's all right. Yeah, I think that's good.
So let's glue this down. Let's seal this puppy up. Am I on? I hope so. Yep. Okay. Oh, I can't
tell you how many times I've been yabbering away and the camera's not even on. Yeah, that's right.
So let's see how we're doing. Did you have a nice new year? Oh, um, I hope you did. I hope
you had good time. You know, however you spent it. Lots of celebration or just nice, quiet,
peaceful time. It's all good. It is. It's all good. Um, maybe you had some crafting time.
Yeah, that'd be nice. All right. This is a very basic construct and this idea came from a very
old journal that I found along the way. It was probably in the late 1800s and somebody had made
one handmade a journal and they used some paper like this brown wrapping paper. That's what it's
called. And, um, they sewed it, hand sewed it. I thought it was really cool and it was little
girls and it was just, I thought, oh my gosh, she was on the, you know, making a junk journal even
before junk journals were invented. It was pretty cool when people actually used what they had.
All right. There we go. Okay. So I bridged the gap. Okay. So we're going for rustic. Remember,
rustic is good right now. Rustic is good. That's what we're telling ourselves. Okay. That's kind of
cool. I like that a lot. All right. So now we need to build some pages. So let me move our, our,
our glue. Did something come up? Maybe I needed more glue. Well, apparently I needed more glue.
Let me do it and put some more glue in there. You want more glue? I'll give you more glue.
I made a tube. Okay. Unbeknownst to self. Okay. There we go. Oh, that's lovely. Isn't it? Okay.
This could be like a nice little jotting notebook or something like that. That would be very fun.
Now, if I use the brown paper, you could still write on brown. It doesn't, you know, I mean,
you'll see, you'll see pen. Let's see. I'm demonstrating what pen looks like on brown
paper. So you can still write on it. You see that? Yeah. Yeah. My lighting's not very good
right now. Later at night. Okay. So we have that and then, um, okay. So I'm going to attempt to
make some pages for this. Now this measuring is about six inches tall. So a smidge smaller than
six inches would be awesome. Now to get this, we have to unravel it because it's raveled.
Have you ever seen anything that's raveled? Because we unravel things a lot, but do we ever
ravel things? I don't, I'm sure I've raveled things without knowing it. I can't get this
apart. Somebody help me. Um, I'm just going to cut these off. It's unruly at this point. Okay.
We don't want unruly. We want unraveled. It's different. Okay. Maybe I need to start at the
other end. Here we go. That's the problem. This is where everything comes together or apart.
Okay. Now what happens if I fold it in half? It's still too big, right? I think that's taller
than six inches. It's actually not bad. It's a smidge taller. All right. I think that's what
I'm going to do. I'm just going to fold the whole thing in half and I'll deal with the excess.
All right. Let the magic happen. Okay. Top here. There we go.
Maybe I should use some paper clips or clamps. That feels like a smart thing to do. Pam,
why don't you do that? You've got like a whole thing of them sitting here.
Why not use that paper clips, little bulldog clips, whatever you got handy just to keep
everybody in line. These two top pieces, the same length. Okay. There we go. All right.
All right. Not bad. Not bad. Getting more of those? Yep. I got a few more.
All right. That's okay. I can fix that. There's a little tear in it and we're making things.
All right. Okay. Okay. All right. All right. Now we're going to fold it over itself.
I'm actually going to make a few pages here. Let's see. It's not going to be a huge book.
It's going to be a little booklet with a few pages. That's all we're asking. A few pages.
All right. Here we go. Fold that. Make that nice and flush. I'm going to fold it again
to about... I don't need it anymore. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. We'll see you
later. Okay. There we go. Now I think I'm going to trim this so it's even here. I didn't get the
back page. Oh, I didn't get the back page. Okie dokie. There. Okay. I got the back page. All right.
Now for my next trick, I've got a lot of pages. Now let's see. If I fold it over,
it's still too wide. Okay. So how can I get it? I could do it in thirds. I'm going to do it in
thirds. I'm going to cut the edges. I could do that. Let me see if I can do that. Something
like this. Yeah. That's not bad. Okay. I'm going to have to trim it shorter. A little bit shorter.
It's okay though. Yeah. I think that's it. That's not bad because what I'm going to do is I'm going
to cut off the edges. That's going to make it narrower. The whole thing's going to slide this
way and I'll just trim the top. Maybe I'll trim the top now before everything goes, you know,
awry and get the old bone folder to get some serious creasing in here because it's going to
make it easier to cut. All right. So, all right. This in my mind work in reality, you know,
we will find out. Okay. I'm going to put that like that. I guess I'm going to square it up.
That would be small, square it up, meaning follow a line this way, follow a line that way,
and then follow the line straight here. So yep. We cut a straight line, which is make sure that
no. It sure little took us over there. Okay. That's better. Let's realign right there.
There. Okay. Here we go. It's a little thick, so I'm going slow. My little knife is somewhat
sharp. It's not bad. Probably pretty soon I need to get to the next blade. It'll be easier. Okay.
So that wasn't too bad. Now I've done that. Now don't cut that side pan because then there's
holding everything together. I have freed all these edges, so that's good. But there's some
bottoms that are connected and there may be some tops. I don't know. Are there tops? Not so much.
Lots of bottoms. So these bottoms, they have to go. Okay. So let's square it off. And again,
we're going to align the line. Double check over here. Make sure everybody is square
and then align our line here. And then we're going to cut.
This is where we just hope. This is called the hoping part. I hope this works. Yeah, this is
dull. All right. I'll just be here for an hour cutting this. That's okay. Nope. It's not cutting
straight. Okay. I need to let go. Don't move though. Don't move. I'm going to break this off
and get a pair of pliers. I'm looking away, which I should wear goggles and run and hide,
but I'm not. Yeah. Okay. And yes, I know there's a thingy on here, but this is a thingy so that
you can come and break it off some way. It never works for me. So I do it that way. All right.
Yeah. It was really important I got that little thingy back on, right? Because I'll never use it.
Okay. There we go. Let's try this again. Okay. We're all running amok. Now this should cut like
butter, like it does on TV, right? Like, okay, you're getting too knife. Come along here.
Push firmly. Go slow. I'm able to get closer. Yeah. So you can almost cut through everything.
Yeah. If you're having difficulty cutting with anything, it's usually a dull blade.
So once you get your sharp blade, be very mindful you don't lose an appendage.
Okay. There we go. So we have a nice set of pages. I don't know how many. It's that many.
Okay. Let's see if it fits. Knot will adjust it. Okay. It did slide in. It pretty much fits. I
think when I sew it in, it'll fit. Yeah. And I'm going to take the easy way out of this.
Okay. I'm going to be like easy with it. So I'm going to take this. I'm just going to find the
middle. It's here somewhere. Almost there. And I'm there. Okay. This is a, it's a probably a good
idea to do this. Yep. I want to be like that little rustic girl and sew it in. Maybe I should
just do that because it's fun and easy. And you're thinking, no, no, not sewing. But I'm going to say,
hey, we probably already have a big eyed needle. So all we really need is some embroidery floss.
So let's go digging for that. Here's some. Here's some now. I found some. And I think black would
be cool. I think I want to test the black to see if it's okay. And it's probably vintage and
sometimes they, they lose their integrity. They're, they just fall apart. That's the easiest
way to say that. It just falls apart. So you want, you want to kind of do this just to make sure it's
still strong. This one seems to still be strong, but it's very old. I could tell by the, the
wrapping on it. Oh, it's 2001. I think that might not be the year that might be something else.
Okay. I'm thinking maybe I'll get a sharper one and maybe I can go right through the paper. Let's
see if I can. If I go right through the paper, that's great. Sometimes you can have sharper ends.
Hang on. These are not bad. Let me try one of these. All right. Let's see if I can poke through that. If I
can't poke through that, I'll, I'll figure it away. Let's do the old three hole pamphlet stitch, right?
Okay. That might be a little tricky. Maybe I am getting through it, but you know what? Let me just
use this guy. When in doubt, pull out the Crop-A-Dile 2 Big Bite. And I'm just going to make, well, I do
need to match them on here. Don't I? What I should do, I'm going to put everything in here.
That's what I'm going to do. Look at me go now. This is getting really fancy. Putting everything
in here. Clamp it down on all. You got it. You got to stay solid though. Stay solid. Stay together.
Okay. Good. Make sure everybody's where they're supposed to be.
Let's just clamp the bejeebers. This is the technique called clamp the bejeebers.
And if I can't run around, we got a good chance at harnessing this little filly. All right. There
we go. So now I, this is the cover. These are the pages. I know it's hard to tell the difference,
but I think it's good. And, um, I have now recovered my, uh, let me make sure it folds
right. Everybody's doing well. Yep. Everybody's doing well. Okay. Uh, so now everything's together.
I can come in here and punch with the Crop-A-Dile 2 Big Bite. I'm going to use the 1.8. It's a
smaller hole punch, sliding it in. And I really, it doesn't matter where I do it as long as I do
it in the crease. So I go about inch down, somewhat in the middle. You can measure. And then
about an, oops, don't rip the paper pan, an inch up. You know, approximating there. We don't get
all excited about things like that. No, we don't. No, you can. It's all right. Go ahead. Um, all
right. Okay. There's a little glue stick. Let's just get rid of you. With the magic of a pair
of scissors, it's some kind of gluey thing on there from the wrapping. And now, okay, I'm going
to try this. Okay. If I get it, great. Oh, did I get, no, I, okay. So I wrapped, I saw this on,
I saw this on YouTube somewhere. One of those, you know, the hacks to do this and that, all these
hacks. It said, fold this like, like to a point. And then you lay, even your multi-thread,
stick it out a little bit, like really close, like real close. I don't know if it was sticking
out or not. I don't think so. Cause you gotta get it through the needle eye. Where's the needle?
There it is. Okay. And then you take this, I guess you pull it in. You don't want it sticking
out. You just take that whole device, shove it through. And then basically you can like tear
this away, but your thread is like, look at that. Okay. The video was worth it just for that.
That is a stolen hack, people. I got it from somewhere else. I have no idea where, but um,
one, two, three times the height of your journal is usually the amount you need. And normally,
yeah, but normally I go through this way. Let's try it this way. I'm going to go from the back.
I know this is changing all the rules. One. Okay. Then go to the top and the bottom. And
this is going to make the little tail come out on the back instead of on the inside. You can do it
either way. I'm just showing you an alternative since we always do the other one. This might be
a little fun to see something different. Okay, here we go. So I've got, let me even up these.
Okay. That's pretty good. So I want them on both sides. One here, one here. Here's the bridge.
Here's your angel wings. Your angel wings are on the east sides of the bridge. Pull snug,
but not tearing. And then tie a little knot left over right, whatever that was,
and then right over left. So now you got to do it the weird way. It feels weird.
Okay. All right. All right. So here we go. I think I'm just going to tie a little
bowski for now. Okay. That's good. All right. So that's cute. I can take all this off
and everything should be there. There we have a journal. I mean, that's how quickly it can be
done with just some of this stuff. You know what I mean? And you could do the faux leather on this
paper first if you wanted to do that. But I just thought this is kind of a fun, cute, quick little
way to get a journal rolling. And wouldn't this be fun if you could like log your, whatever you
log in these things. Um, I'm not sure. Um, let me, I need to do a repair job. There's a tear here
and I like to use, um, I think it looks kind of cool. A little piece of, you know, decorative
washi tape. Just kind of like this one says good thinking, good thinking to use washi tape right
there. It's kind of just pretty and ornate. Yeah. So now that little repairs, we have any other
little repairs. If I was really good at keeping my clamping down, everything would be perfectly
even, but it's not bad. Honestly, on a good day, not bad. So we've got that, get that, get that,
and we have the back and then you can decorate it any way you like. So anyway, yes, we can have fun
with this stuff and you can make stuff with it. You can make a little booklet, a little,
I don't know, um, an address book. Um, do they make address books anymore? I don't know. Um,
you could make it a little, um, place to put pictures or notes or, you know, all sorts of fun
things. So there you go. Let me find Mr. You Know Who. Are you here? No. I have to go get him. I'll
be back. Wish me luck. Okay. Guess who I wrangled? Yes. This one needed a little wrangling.
Hello everybody. My name is Sunshine Junior Cup Pup Reporter and I have been wrangled. Yes,
I have been wrangled with the best of them. Okay. There was a little bit of chasing,
not much. And then there was yielding by Sunshine. Sunshine gave in, um, and because
I like to do my pup dates and my mom says it's pup date time. I kind of, I yield quickly. I'm like,
oh, you can't get me. Can't get me. Ha ha mom. And then all of a sudden, oh, okay. You got me.
Yeah. But I let her get me. I do. I let her get me. And then I come over and I do my pup date.
So, um, yeah, I write on the fly so things don't go awry. It's what I do. Yeah. So I am an ad
living pup date reporter, um, on the fly. So, uh, you were wrangled. Yes. Let's get back to it. I,
I, I was wrangled. I was compliant and I was, um, willing. I was a willing,
I was a willing wrangled pup and all as well. And, um, so, uh, okay. What do I look like with
no ears? I have no ears. What am I? I would say, identify this animal. It's a baby harbor seal.
No, it's an otter. No, it's a, uh, uh, an earless rabbit. We don't know what this is. It could be a
cat. It's often mistaken for a cat. I know really everybody. Okay. So it's not that bad. Is it? Why
don't you just have a little snooze while we're all here? Okay. I'm just going to zone out. You
take it away, mom. Oh, so don't forget everybody right now, uh, for your enjoyment, I have a
