What's going on everyone welcome to the shop. Today we are hopefully going to jam out on some
unboxings but before I do that come over here. I've been building arrows and getting ready pretty
much non-stop. I got a bow we've been setting up all day today. I'm trying to get it all dialed
but I figured since I'm going to get probably tons of questions about this because I'm mixing
it up a little bit this year. Hunting arrows this wise I'm running an Easton Axis 300 spine
laser heat vanes with lighted nocks again this year because it is way more fun to watch lighted
nocks go through deer. So decided to do that this year but today what we're going to be doing
is we're going to be unboxing this bad boy right here. Fresh off the press Lancaster Archery Supply.
Alrighty so good things do come in small packages and we're going to see if that is true
in this scenario. We have the PXS Target Deluxe Kit from Specialty Archery. It is a new peep
that they came out with that has adjustable apertures, adjustable lenses, clear lenses,
and clarifiers. So I have I have the full kit here so what we're going to do today is we're
going to run through it set it up and kind of explain and maybe explain why you would even want
this this peep. If you're a hunter you know why would you want this or your target archer why you
want this. So we're going to dive right in and see what this is all about. Okay so pretty much we have
just the peep right here the PXS Target peep in black. I really don't know if there's other colors
or not and then this is the deluxe kit which it looks like there are one two three four or five
different aperture sizes and then five different clarifier colors which are like different it's
similar to like um like eyeglasses different prescriptions and stuff. So let's go ahead and
open up the peep. This is a similar system to a peep that I ran a lot that the Hansky peep
but it's just another option. Right off the bat it looks pretty dang clean. I apologize my hands
are very dirty right now and I have washed them about 5,000 times but I've been modifying stuff
and using glue and all sorts of stuff so my hands are pretty nasty right now so I apologize.
Okay so next we're going to open up the full kit here and what you get is this little box
oh they even label them for you so 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 3 and that must be all of your
different levels of your clarifiers and then these oh wow so it looks like you don't even need
a tool or anything because it has this little grippy part and you take your actual peep looks
like you just spin it in oh wow that's pretty cool no tools required threads are a little sticky
nice so pretty much what I'm doing here is this peep has no aperture in it at all right now
and all of these are different size apertures which are just different diameters of the hole
that you look through so you can see like that one's super small and then this one yeah that
one's quite big so let's just take one let's see if I can actually fit it in there are threads there
threads are just really tight really really tight there you go that's just how you switch
out apertures super oh wow oh I can't get that out now that was just in there tight these threads
are not they're just really really really snug they work good they're just snug okay so we have
a peep we have all these different size apertures and when you get a full kit like this it allows
you to mess around with it especially if you're like a 3d archer or really any type of archer but
what your vision is your most important part so the peep actually controls a lot of your vision
and like how you see the target the clearness the brightness obviously so by using different
types of apertures different type of clarifiers also it really makes your your sight picture
incredibly incredibly different so by just having a full kit like what I've done is I just ran
through every every single scenario and basically you find what is best for you and everyone's a
little bit different too because everyone's eyesight is a little bit different so like if
this works for one person it might not work for for this person over here so we have all
these different sizes right here and there is an incredibly incredibly small lens and I think what
you do is in the little aperture there's like a little cradle right there and I think you just
just got catapulted all right we're back folks don't do what I just did so this thing is pretty
finicky you got to kind of like pinch it in there we go so basically that's your end product right
there so that actually is kind of nice that that sits right in there compared to like other types
of peeps or it just kind of floats around which is not terrible but it's like sits right in there
and it's easy for installation so now we have our peep sight this is all by hand and just twist that
right in nice so there you have it that is how you install that so now what we can do is we can
run through any sort of combination of I mean literally there's five different apertures five
different lenses so math was out there how many different combinations is that and as you go
through so a 0.5 just off the top of my head 0.5 clarifier is going to be like the blurriest and
then a three is going to just be like insanely clear but the more the more clear you go through
the clarifiers the blurry or your paint gets and for certain people a lot of like weird things can
happen like a three is just so so crisp and clear and so like much magnification and powerful
that it like can throw a lot of people off so a lot of people land actually like right in the
middle middle of the road where their pin is a little bit blurry in there and then what they're
seeing like the target is pretty clear but there's still a little bit of blurriness left to it if you
go to one extreme to the next sometimes you can deal with a lot of crazy stuff but let's go ahead
put this in the bow and actually see um see what we're seeing and kind of see how easy it is to
install all right so what i'm going to do is i'm actually going to put it inside of a bow
and hold on there we go and uh i have a trx 38 here it doesn't have a peep sight in it
kind of retired it because i have a new one sitting over there that i still have to set up
for a bow build um but it's a great bow we can put a peep in it and i'm going to kind of show
how i tie my peep so it'll be probably 20 30 40 different ways you can tie a peep all sorts of
knots um this is just how i do it and i've liked it so with this being 38 inches axle axle also
i'm probably gonna try the 37 degree angle um we'll run with that also with the specialty peep
you're gonna look through um the the piece you like screw into the front you don't want to look
through it backwards although i really don't know if that would matter too much but you look through
the the little piece you screw in um a lot of people always ask why this little fuzzy thing
is there and that is the factory divider of like the string middle so i always just leave that in
there unless i take it out for whatever reason but a lot of my bows i just keep it in there and
for this instance i have another one right here which was middle middle of the string sometimes
if you like lose the center of the string i don't think it actually would mess up too much
if you just like count them and it's not actually the two strands but
anyways um let's see how this fits in here so that would be the 37
should be fine i'm actually gonna pull it back yeah so you want the peep kind of like
you know level and parallel with the ground that looks pretty good right there it's a little
crooked but that should be fine but if i was shooting like a 20 like a hunting bow pretty
much you would want a 45 degree angle because it's just a shorter shorter bow okay so you can
much use any type of serving material for for peep sight it really doesn't matter it's not as
sensitive as like the actual serving so i just i don't even know what kind this is right here
just some bcy stuff and the first thing you always want to do is before you shoot it you cannot shoot
a peep sight i've heard of guys like it can like launch in and bouncing off the wall or hitting
them in the eye they can be dangerous so before you shoot a bow you have to just put some simple
knots around it so i just do like the basic knot like the over underhand knot or whatever they call
if i can get it lined up with you just tie on top once get it snug tie on the bottom
get snug go back up to the top do one more and then you're gonna do what's a square knot
so whatever way you just did do the opposite just tighten it down kind of like cinches down
on each other you can either cut that or burn it or you can just burn it touch it and really you
could shoot it like this a lot of people do shoot it like this you're just more prone to your peep
moving because right now i just you know moved you 20 yards literally if you shot that so a lot of
times if you're in a tournament or hunting situation and you bump your peep on something
and or your whole sight tapes like two three yards off and you don't know why a lot of times
peep sight can be off actually missed a deer because when peep sight was moved and what you
can do is you take a little sharpie and you mark little lines on your string one on each side and
if it does get moved you'll see it and you can move it right back that's actually what happened
in the field i saw that it was moved moved it right back and that was fine so now we're going
to do our tops and our bottoms there's a couple ways you can do this i'll do one i'll do i'll do
it each way i guess all the time so if you have a bow press i recommend putting like a little bit
of tension on it so you can get these even tighter or like you can get them tighter together there's
a little bit of slop in it so you can just get as tight to the peep as you can because the tighter
to the peep you can get the less it's going to move one on the bottom and it's okay if it's not
tight on that first one after two or three more it's all going to tighten up
literally what you do is you just go top bottom top bottom top bottom pretty much for as you
know as long as you want you don't want to go crazy long but i'd say a good you know 10 8 to 10
is definitely adequate six if you're feeling risky and it looks clean this way too it's a
little bit bulkier like it's a bulkier knot compared to some other ways especially if you're
not using a super skinny serving it works good i will say it is a little bit more prone to slip
like on the scale of like slippiness because there's no actual like threading inside of the
string or anything when you start threading inside the string it's incredibly hard to move
but this is this is just like the quick and dirty easy way to do it
um so again just keep going over and under so there we go call that good enough so we're
gonna do a square knot again so just go the opposite way your previous knot cinches down
to your lighter that was a lot i shouldn't have done that much if you want it like super precise
i'd recommend cutting it and then burning it because i took off a little too much there but
no big deal so there you go this is the really the easiest fastest way to do this
and uh but now we'll do we'll do the top a different way that's even just so clean like
they just stack right next to each other looks cool um i don't know the names of all these knots
i just know them so uh don't quote me on anything um this next one is the same way that how you do
serving so what you're going to do first is you're going to thread your tag in through the
little hole in the peep here and you're just going to lay it down and you just do like the complete
opposite if you're on the other side put a little bit of tension on the string again and you're
doing a couple wraps around you literally like can do it kind of loose because until you get going
you really can't get much tension and what i actually like to do is i like to do a couple
wraps and then like scooch it all a little higher so i'll actually go like that scooch it and then
pull on your long end get a little tight then you can put some tension on the string and you can go
really crazy on this and be super tight and precise or you can do it kind of fast but pretty much what
you're doing is you're just wrapping this just one next to the other just want to make sure it's
lined up right to the next one you don't want to go over obviously you don't want to go like over
one accidentally but pretty much you're burying this little tag end you're laying it down and
you're just burying it and that's what i was saying earlier like this one it's complete is
very hard you can see that one's like bulged out a little bit because that's where it came up
through the string and what you can do now is wherever my knife is you actually cut that tag
end and you're just going to keep burying it in there so again like length is all subject to
change there's really no correct way to do that all right so we got a decent amount right here
and i do like to do these a little bit longer than these um like half hitch knots i don't know why i
so now what you're going to do is you're going to essentially like make a make a mini version
what we just did off to the side and cinch it back down on itself so i'm coming up in the bottom
right now you're going to lay over your tag end on top and then you're going to come back through
underneath like that circle you just made and you're going to do that about i don't know six
seven eight times and what's that what that is doing is you're prepping to make like a little
cinch on itself so once you have those wraps right there and you can be kind of loose about it
you're actually going to lay this tag end on this string and you're always going to want to make
sure you keep tension onto the serving you just made so now what i like to do is just kind of
press down on that little tag end you're going to start to wrap you kind of have to hold it there
for a second you're going to wrap onto that little tag that you just created and as you
wrap on the right it unravels on the left so pretty much you just have this loop of string
that you're going to cinch down on top of each other you just want to make sure you got like
constant pressure and once you get all the way to the end you're literally just going to have this
tag end type loop dealio and this is the tag and you're going to have this loop so you're going to
grab the tag end and you're going to pull on the tag loop's going to get smaller make sure you keep
pressure so you all the way there and then you pull and cinch it down then you're going to take
your knife leave a little bit you can burn this you don't have to burn it really you can cut it
short because it's buried in there there you go that's how you do it super easy um and really
there's no right way to do this um this knot works just as good as this knot um like i said
though this one i mean if you if you really ream on it there is potential you can move it
one other little trick i like to do is i'll take a piece of serving material
and then i'll wrap it on the bottom side right here i'll get tension on it i'll actually pull
my serving see how hard that that's barely moving there we go i actually pull my serving
up tighter to my peep because again like the tighter you get to the peep just the less room
your peeps going to get the more tension it's going to have um so yeah there's two quick ways
you can you can tie on your peep and you can literally do this at home um and it's super easy
so um real quick i wanted to touch on why you would want one of these like a higher end peep
for hunting um as we continue like hunters just keep like evolving getting better and more
technical and everything quarter inch peep is no longer really like the solution if you want to get
better the bigger your peep is people always say like like better light low light whitetail hunting
which is semi true but that's just so much room for error a peep system like this it allows you
to have all different types of apertures you can play with them and actually run still a very small
peep while hunting um so if you're if you're a hunter and you're like a bow hunting setup and
you're trying to get better definitely don't look past getting a higher quality peep messing with
apertures i don't necessarily run a clarifier or a verifier while hunting um just because it's like
another variable another lens but different size peeps are very very important but anyways that's
the unboxing for today kind of how to set it up make sure to check out lancasterarchery.com for
