My adventures on my first day in Kuwait continued well into the night as my boy Yousef and I headed back out to grab some dinner! Come along with us as we enjoy some incredible Kuwaiti kebabs and tea at Traditional Café Shemaimry in Kuwait City, Kuwait!
Local Tour Kuwait: http://localtourkuwait.com/
We started our night at Al Shaheed Park, which was dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the war. It’s a green belt that will go around Kuwait City and has the skyline right behind it. They’re not finished building it, though! It was a nice, breezy evening. There are also cafés and restaurants nearby.
The park is very well-kept and has lots of benches everywhere, as well as fountains and ponds. There were lots of people walking, jogging, and working out. You can see the entire Kuwait City skyline from there. It’s really beautiful!
We were getting hungry, so we headed over to Traditional Café Shemaimry, which is an open-air café and teahouse that overlooks Kuwait Bay. It was built in 1979 and is a popular place for Kuwaiti people to gather and talk about politics and other topics. The restaurant is named after the owner who lost his life in 1985 due to a bomb blast where the restaurant now stands. They changed the name to the owner’s name after that. There’s tons of history there and it’s an iconic restaurant.
Along the way, I realized just how big Kuwait is! The restaurant looked really close on the map, but it still took us ten minutes to get there by car. Once there, we ordered a plate of four kebabs, plus a dish consisting of bread with meat inside. It cost us 2 Kuwaiti dinar. You then get two tokens, which you give to the guys who start putting together your order.
Our order also came with some greens. We sat on the far left, where it was well-lit. It was much cooler out there. In the kitchen, it was boiling hot! There were lots of cats hanging around!
We had some amazing-looking kebabs, regular bread, bread stuffed with minced meat. The bread stuffed with minced meat was really tasty and also contained onions, herbs, and spices. It was crispy and smoky on the outside and the mincemeat filling was spread throughout!
Then, I grabbed some of the other bread and had tried some of the kebabs with it. I couldn’t get enough of the spices in these Kuwaiti kebabs. They were so good! Then, I went for some of the herbs, and then back to the kebabs. I wrapped some herbs in the bread with the kebabs, which was even better! It was incredible! Yousef was on a diet, so he’d barely eaten all day, but he was finally eating!
The kebabs were so good, I didn’t even need bread with them. I rolled more kebabs up with the herbs. The juices from the kebabs soaked into the bread. As we ate, the cats continued to clamor around us. I felt bad for them because they wanted the food, but I couldn’t feed them.
These were the best kebabs in Kuwait! They were amazing!
Then, we had some nice tea with no sugar. It was really hot and similar to Moroccan tea, except Moroccan tea has mint and this one didn’t.
From there, we drove to the tallest tower in Kuwait, Al Hamra Tower. It was lit up in purple and yellow and is in the middle of the downtown area. It’s also the tallest carved concrete skyscraper in the world at 414 meters tall. It’s beautiful and has a giant LED screen and fountains outside.
If you’d like to explore Kuwait, I recommend hiring Local Tour Kuwait to show you around. Yousef was super friendly and knowledgeable and made my time in Kuwait an awesome experience I will never forget!

Kuwaiti kebabs, oh man delicious. I'm just in love with this. You like it? It's too good.
Good evening everyone, this is David Hoffman from David's been here in beautiful Kuwait City, Kuwait
I'm here with my boy Yosef from Local Tours Kuwait, and we're here at this beautiful park. What's the name of this park?
and he was telling me basically this is dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the war
yeah and it's a green belt it goes right around Kuwait City as you can see the skyline is right
behind us it's really nice right now it's breezy the sun has gone down and over here to the right
we also have restaurants we have cafes and they're still building it it hasn't really
been finished they keep extending it it's going to basically go around the entire city
and today what we're doing is we're going to explore the park and then we're going to go eat
some delicious kebabs. Kuwaiti kebabs. I'm going to love them right? Yeah sure. And where's the place?
What is it called? Shmeimri. Shmeimri. Yeah Shmeimri. Okay so basically he was telling me where the
place is a bomb hit during the war and then the person died and that's his name Shmeimri right?
Yeah family name Shmeimri. Family name yeah okay perfect so let's go eat. You ready? Let's go.
This is a very well-kept park there's benches everywhere so you can just walk sit down as
right now people are jogging people are walking i guess they're going up and down the entire thing
so i think around half an hour do the whole thing right now yeah half an hour
oh lots of lights here lights with rocks we have the sound like like a waterfall here a spring
oh wow so you have a little pond here i mean the skyline here is ridiculous you can see the entire
skyline so you have Al Hamza. Al Hamra. Al Hamra. What's the next one? The next one's for like a
bank MBK. MBK? Bank of Kuwait. That one? No that one. And this one? What's this one? The biggest one.
Like offices you know? The offices? Yeah they call this one Tijariyya. This one Mazaya you know?
Okay. Offices. Too many. Too many companies. Yeah too many companies. We walked for about 10 minutes and we
ran into this area where they have like a green space on the right like a nice path and people
are jogging speed walking working out i mean a lot of people working out right now i mean it's
basically what people do here and then over here everybody is walking to the restaurants and the
cafes which are very end and i think that's it for us i mean we're gonna just walk back to the car
go straight to eat i mean we're really really hungry it's getting late it's already 8 30 at night
but i really love this park i mean beautiful spot
my friend kebabs? Kebabs yeah i like kebabs. It's funny because when you think about Kuwait you think
it's small dude that was right here on the map and it still took us 10 minutes it's big Kuwait's big
this is it? This restaurant? Yeah but this is a play games for kids. Oh it's a play games for kids okay
okay i was gonna say what is this an amusement park?
So we just ordered a plate of four kebabs and then we also got something
with bread with like meat inside right? Yeah. And then what they do is it costs two thousand
no it costs two. 2KD. Sorry 2KD and then and they gave us these two coins so we have to give these
coins to these guys right here yeah and then they start to order right?
All right guys so here we go our kebab feast. Oh it's hot is the bread? No it's ice yeah that's
oh my god and then what's this? Oh there's some veg? Great okay there's so many cats here what's
happening here? They're swimming there. I know i know but hey step away from the vehicle.
So this restaurant is basically open air and then we're sitting here on the far left lots of light
here we went to the kitchen we saw how they made the kebabs also the bread it's really crazy it's
so hot in there it's like super super super duper hot i mean i got super close and it was like on
fire he flips bread like four times five times then it's done the kebabs took two minutes
really really hot fire all fresh all fresh look at this so we have inside here we have the kebabs
oh my god where are they wow look at that it's amazing dude this is incredible so we have
the kebabs here oh hot hot then here we have the bread let's open this up the cats are like
smelling the food and they're all over us hey out of here whoa so there's the bread great so the
bread's stuffed with like minced meat right yeah all right my friend how do we do this how do we
start so yeah it starts from the ice oh my god scared me dude here you go here's a piece
oh like that yeah oh it's double oh wow the mincemeat throughout
yeah a lot of like onions and herbs and that was the spice right
it's spice oh i love how crispy is on the outside a little smoky yeah just put on the grill
they're gonna eat all this oh it's so good wow the crunch
and what about the herbs what do we do the herbs so cut okay
so just break a piece like this one hand yeah
one hand and get a piece of that yeah okay good like that that's it yeah
wow man kawaii kebabs oh man delicious whoa what spices are in here you got some
some herbs so what do we do mix it with the crab you can yeah it's nice but
so i'm thinking just doing this first right bring it up then putting it here
grab me some herbs throw some herbs into it oh that's good try to use my one hand but
how is this way better love the herbs i'm on diet i told you
you're on diet yeah this guy hasn't eaten all day it's a wrap piece
love the charcoal this is phenomenal as well but mixing this herbs into it so good
my friend he's on a super diet he lost 500 pounds
he lost a few pounds but i love doing this
this kebab is so delicious dude i don't even need bread i'll eat it alone grab a bunch of the herbs
right roll this guy up actually more right put it up completely like that look at that
this is straight up kuwaiti taco so good and what i like about it is that
all the juices from the kebab have like been like absorbed by the bread
my friend i don't know what you're why you're missing on this so good
i feel sad for the man i really do but what am i supposed to do i can't beat him
i'm just in love with this you like it it's too good wow wow wow what delicious kebab
i think this is probably the best kebab in kuwait yeah one of the best yeah one of the best yeah
i have too many good kebabs too many good kebabs dude i thought you're going to take me to the
best okay i'm gonna have one last bite of this and i'm done i'm done like everyone have another
taste and it's always good you know i know i think they're amazing all right so next up we're trying
some delicious tea nice black tea no sugar oh it's good so let me explain to you guys a little
bit about this place so this is basically like an open air cafe slash tea house where you know
kuwaitis would come relax talk about politics you know come have tea and that's basically it was
built in 1979 there's many of them and in 1985 this one got hit by a bomb so like a terrorist attack
hit this one and it killed the owner and many other people died as well and because of that
they changed the name to the owner's name right and uh yeah i mean that's sort of the history of
it also the bear cross is a mall and that also was bombed a little later yeah 2000 yeah incredible
so i mean a lot of history here in terms of you know the wars that have happened i mean that's
before the the war with iraq in the 80s um so yeah i mean it's a really i guess it's a really
iconic place uh that you should come the beef kebabs are amazing like really amazing the food's
fantastic love it and this tea is really good too my friend yeah it's good that's good it's good i
can drink tea all day man there's one thing you'll do a lot here smoke shisha and drink tea
you drink this every day every day every day yeah multiple times a day
i like it when it's from 50 degree 50 degree yeah 50 degree yeah with tea oh my god
50 degree tea or 50 degree outside no outside with tea oh my god oh my god so like it's like
crazy hot and then tea see that's what i don't care about the east you guys love like hot hot
with hot it's so crazy yeah like in like in the like china stuff like hot soup with hot weather
like you're boiling and you're having soup now it's good
it's similar to to moroccan tea but moroccan tea has mint this one doesn't have mint
so that was an amazing meal we're gonna actually go right now to the tallest
tower in kuwait alhamra alhamra alhamra it's right there lit up and like this purple with
yellow it's gorgeous it's in the center of kuwait city downtown which is right in front of us
dude how tall is that 300 meters more yeah i know it's also near the hotel
yeah and here we have the alhamra tower the tallest skyscraper in kuwait it is the tallest
carved concrete carved skyscraper in the world 13 tallest tower in the world 414 meters high
i think it's 1358 feet high it is beautiful it's actually a huge lcd screen right here
so you can see but that is the tower i love it it is a gorgeous building i highly suggest coming
here you can stay here they have a hotel but you know i wanted this to see it from outside
look at that thing incredible and they have a fountain right here it's like a fountain show
whoa look at this fountain show guys and so our night has come to an end we started off in that
beautiful green space love that spot nice park then we went over and had some of the best kebabs
in kuwait they were really fantastic oh man i love mixing the bread with some of the greens
