In this video I show a step-by-step Crye Precision AVS assembly and walk through my full AVS setup that I run with my SCAR-H.
This guide covers how to build and configure an AVS plate carrier, including harness setup, front panel, placard integration and pouch layout.
Even though this is an Emerson Gear AVS replica, the assembly process is identical — and it’s honestly one of the best plate carriers I’ve used.
King of the plate carriers, Crye Precision AVS is probably the best heavy structural plate
carrier on the market. But it's also a great puzzle set, so it does not come assembled.
You have to assemble it yourself. It's actually quite difficult and confusing at times.
So we're gonna be assembling the AVS and then gonna go through my setup that you might know
from the plate carrier basics video that was released, I think, two weeks ago. So the video
is not sponsored by anyone. It's the replica of the Crye Precision AVS by Emerson Gear.
It was actually a gift from my fiancée, so we can say that she sponsored this video, I guess.
My name is Bart and this is Canal Flannel. So let's start with the greatest puzzle of all,
the AVS assembly. So what makes the AVS unique is the harness system that helps you redistribute the
weight over your body and also works with your back while you're moving. So to assemble that,
you take the back plate first and the two pieces of the harness. So first of all,
it's hella confusing to do. So there are the buckles on the back, so you need to put the
back plate straps through those buckles and attach the harness to the back plate first.
And then you use those straps to attach it to the plate bags. Okay, so we've got one side attached
and now we do this again for the second side. We have our harness attached. So to make it actually
work, we need to put this through the holes here. And then you secure it with the buckle
and you can just inverse this and put the straps. So that's your back plate assembly.
So as you can see, it works. It just works. So that's just gonna work with your body while you're
moving. So now we have to attach the front plate. So on one side it's actually super easy. You just
velcro it in, then you just fix the shoulder. And on the other side we have a buckle. So that's also
easy and quite self-explanatory. Just pass the strap through the buckle and then you velcro it
from the inside of the front bag. Okay, so that's the base of the plate carrier set and done.
Now we're gonna go through my actual setup and attachments piece by piece. I'm just gonna be
adding them and talking about what I use them for and where they came from. So first we've got the
Hussar side extension pouch that I use for radio. It just goes down here with the, well,
radio. So that lives under the camera band, so when you close the vest on top the radio stays
inside close to your body, which is more comfortable than wearing it on the back or
back of the camera band. So front strap is, as you probably remember from the plate carrier video,
proper grid, four row placard, which can take either three 308 mags or four AR mags. I have it
configured for the Scar 8, so three 308 mags. And also it has an admin pouch, so yeah, just admin.
So that attaches to the buckles and serves as the placard for the vest. So next we've got a small
admin pouch. As you know, the AVS has a small admin built-in. It just sucks to open it. It's
actually from proper grid as well. It was not designed for the AVS but it just works. So that
just lives here and gives me a nice zipper pouch for additional admin. So that's all on the front.
So moving on to the side. On the left side I wear a JSTAR. It's a replica from Kutak Gear,
if I remember right. So I'm just gonna mull it in. So the JSTAR on the left side serves as first of
all emergency reload. I have a 308 insert here and also just a general purpose pouch. I usually
just end up carrying grenades in it. So moving to the right hand side. So first of all we're gonna
have the SPIRITUS SPOD and that just goes close to your body to the placard. So that's where we
carry the mags. So I'm just gonna mull it in. So as you know, SPOD, it just works really great with any
kind of magazines. So again just a 308. So next up we've got the GTW Gear general purpose pouch.
I like it a lot because it compresses. So when it's empty it's just very flat and well it can actually
bulk up quite nicely as well. So I can actually put quite a lot in here. So that goes here. And last but not
least, remember about hydration. So we're gonna slap a hydration pouch up here. Alright, so we've got
everything. We've got our water, our spare mag, our placard, our admin, more spare mags and general purpose.
So now let's just get it on us. Alright, so we've got the AVS pretty much done. So I've been using it
for about a year now. I'm generally very happy with it. There is no loose stitching, there is no damage
to the material. It's actually original multicam. It does not shine in night vision when you illuminate it
with infrared. So yeah, overall it's a great carrier. I can wholeheartedly recommend it. Whatever it's
gonna be, Emerson, Shekin or original Crye Precision, you're gonna be very, very happy with AVS.
So thank you for watching. Leave a comment, tell me what kind of plate carriers do you use or think
And yeah, see you next week!
