Without challenge, victory would feel empty. Think about it.
If everything came easily, nothing would feel earned.
If there were no struggles, there would be no pride in overcoming them.
The difficult moments are what gives meaning to the beautiful ones.
Long nights make the sunrise feel different. The failures make success feel real.
Even the hardest truths of life, loss, change, the passing of time,
reminds us that every moment matters. Because when something is fragile,
when it can disappear, you begin to value it.
So the struggle you wish had never happened
are often the same ones that make the victories worth remembering.
Nobody cares if you don't feel motivated. None of that matters.
You're never going to win if you don't learn this.
He said, if you're stuck on a problem, start by writing the problem.
And there's something about writing out the problem that will help you see the next step.
And then if you just write the next step, it'll help you see the step after it.
And eventually, before you know it, the problem is solved.
As I got older, I started to realize that this applies to almost everything.
If you feel stuck, if you feel unmotivated, if you feel like you can't do the thing,
if you just find the minimum viable action, the simplest thing that you can do today,
that will give you the momentum to eventually feel motivated and complete the whole task.
It's not that motivation causes action. It's actually the effect.
It's the other way around. Action is what causes motivation.
So if you're feeling unmotivated,
the trick isn't to go get inspired or to go get somebody to push you.
The trick is to find a way to take action, any action,
to do something, and then the motivation will naturally follow.
The first thing we need before confidence is courage.
Because once we show ourselves we can do something,
or that something is working, and we start building momentum,
that's where confidence comes in.
Confidence is knowing that we can do something, but we don't know that ahead of time.
What makes one person a champion and the other one not?
Champions are broken. They lack something everyone else has,
which is an off button. They just don't stop.
I'm unbeatable. I can't be beaten. It's impossible.
You condemn me. You can damage me. You're never, ever going to beat me.
The odds are stacked against me. I won anyway.
Winning has a price.
So I know when my opponent is asleep, I'm out there four or five in the morning working.
Let's drive the will.
There's certain people that grow up with a tremendous hunger.
Champions find a way to make it happen.
But I got the will to win.
I can be scared and carry on.
Both fear and faith demand you to believe in something that you never saw.
You have to be the champion before you become the champion.
You got to be him before you become him.
But the truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness.
The mentality of greatness. There are no breaks.
You want to become best. You want to become champion.
Who cares if you're a pirate or not? Nobody cares about you.
Champion mentality.
Winning isn't once what I thought it was.
I found it to be much more complex than our traditional definitions of success.
And my three questions are, what do you want?
How badly do you want it?
And how much are you willing to suffer?
I want to be the best, Bill.
Fine.
How badly do you want it?
The best pay a big price.
Nothing's ever going to be given to you.
Everything's going to be earned.
If you don't go out there and put in the work, you don't go out and put in the effort.
One, you're not going to get the results.
But two, more importantly, you don't deserve it.
You didn't even earn it.
Five or six years, I went every single day without missing a single day.
I was in the water on Christmas, birthday, holidays, everything.
It didn't matter.
And the thought process behind that was,
when you take a day off, it takes you two days to get back to where you were.
So when somebody is taking off on a Sunday,
they're not back in Tuesday from where they were on Saturday.
So I have that many days ahead of them.
I was putting all of that, we would call it putting it in the bank.
We were storing all of this good work that we were doing,
this hard work that we were doing, continuous hard work.
And it was going to pay off at some point.
You guys have no idea.
When you're hurt, how do you feel?
You lay down, right?
You take a second, you go, you know, you take your vitamins, you do your thing.
When I'm hurt, but I love it.
I love that feeling because it's real.
That's the most realest feeling that you could ever have is being in pain
because everything else, happiness could be fake, crying could be fake,
but pain, that's real.
Pain in your muscles and aching and just then go on and go on and go on.
And this last two or three or four repetitions,
that's what makes actually the muscle then grow.
And that divides them, one from a champion and one from not being a champion.
If you can go through this pain period, you make it to be a champion.
If you can't go through, forget it.
And that's what most people lack, is having the guts.
The guts to go in and just say, I go through and I don't care what happens.
But to be great, Monday on top of Tuesday,
Tuesday on top of Wednesday, Wednesday on top of Thursday,
Thursday on top of Friday, Friday on top of Saturday, Sunday.
That's not all, that's not all, that's not all, that's not all.
And true greatness is always evolving.
I trained Kobe Bryant for nine years.
For nine years, every single time I saw him, I told him we don't have time.
Every single day, I wish I was wrong.
I wish I was wrong.
So whatever your it is, go get it now.
Go get it now.
When I seen that Bentley at the boxing gym and I seen that diamond Rolex,
I said, I want that.
And I knew what it took.
I know people don't usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats.
I'm inspired by the greats.
I'm inspired by the greats here tonight.
I'm as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis
as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps.
And I want to be up there.
Without you or with you, there is always going to be champions.
With your name, this is your choice.
You want to put your name there?
Okay, work hard.
No?
Bye-bye.
If you give up on your dreams, if you give up on your dreams, what do you have left?
When you grow up comfortably and in comfort and in peace and happiness and all those things,
and that will produce a very balanced person and a good person.
But it will not create the will and the determination and the hunger
that you need to be the best in the world.
I feel to be at the pinnacle of any game.
In any, whatever you do, you've got to be a little bit gone to it.
You're not all there.
You've got to be almost insane to your craft.
Not a lot of people can understand that.
On one given night, if you worked hard enough, if you dream big enough,
you sacrifice enough, you just work yourself to the bone.
No matter what you had, what you didn't have.
No matter what people had told you, didn't tell you.
And you were ready to behave like a champion on one given night and make the world fair.
Whether it's a world champion boxer, a basketball player, a track star, a horse, even animals.
What made him the world champion was that he seemed to, at the right time,
when the pressure's down, at the last few yards, he can get that lead.
He's got enough left to make it.
My last fight, the fight was even up until the last round.
But I had something that he didn't have.
A champion is just one who can come out at the last minute and close the show.
There's no stopping a man that knows he's right and just keeps on coming.
There's a distinct difference between a champion and someone who's just good.
Someone that's good sits there and thinks to himself,
I've given everything I have.
Hopefully, I can get through the 12th round.
A champion, he sits in that corner while all these people are talking to him.
He got here, all he's thinking about is, I have to find what I haven't given.
It's that mentality that truly separates the champions from the motherfuckers who are just good.
What I found is that winning doesn't happen on show day.
It happens from early mornings, painful workouts, long cardio sessions, and hungry nights.
It happens in those moments of fear we all have when faced with a difficult goal,
and then more so what you make of that fear.
It happens in every second of every day before you win.
People, Earth, I need to say something.
Listen to me.
I hope every one of you behind the screens or on this arena
can feel this level of happiness just one time in your life.
I hope all of you can feel how happy I am just one time in your life.
But guess what?
You'll never feel this level of happiness if you don't go for something.
Whatever you're pursuing in the world, whether it's tennis, sports, or anything else,
I feel that I have the power to create my own destiny.
I try to visualize every single thing in my life.
Not only believe it, but really feel it with every cell in my body.
Be in the present moment.
Forget about what happened in the past.
Future is something that is just going to happen.
But if you want a better future, you create it.
They're going to tell you you can do it.
They're going to knock you down and doubt you.
But guess what?
The only person you need to achieve anything in this life is yourself.
If you can see it here and you have the courage enough to speak it, it will happen.
And have your hand lifted and be called champion of the world.
There's people that would die for that.
People that are running after their dream know they're going to have hard times.
They keep on running because they're staying within themselves.
Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, and maybe not the next month.
Only one thing is true.
I will be champion one day.
I promise.
Now, regret.
That's a different kind of pain.
It's not about what you've lost.
It's about what you didn't do.
It's about the chances you didn't take.
The opportunities you missed.
The words you wish you could go back and say.
And regret has a way of eating at you.
Of whispering in your ear.
You should have done more.
You should have been better.
You should have known.
But here's the truth about regret.
It's a teacher.
It's not here to punish you.
It's here to guide you.
Regret shows you where you went wrong.
Not to torment you, but to help you do better next time.
To help you grow.
To help you make sure that the next time you're faced with a choice,
you don't hesitate.
You don't let fear hold you back.
You don't let life pass you by.
The key to overcoming regret isn't to forget it.
It's to learn from it.
To use it.
As fuel to become a better version of yourself.
To look at the things you wish you'd done differently.
And ask yourself.
What can I do today to make sure I don't feel this way tomorrow?
Regret can be a weight.
Or it can be a spark.
The choice is yours.
But hers where loss and regret meet.
They both remind us of how fleeting life is.
How quickly things can change.
How easily time can slip away.
And that reminder?
It's a gift.
Because when you faced loss.
When you felt regret.
You know how precious this life is.
You know how important it is to hold on to the people and moments that matter.
You know how vital it is to live fully.
To love deeply.
To leave nothing unsaid.
The way forward isn't to pretend the pain isn't there.
It's not to push it down or try to outrun it.
The way forward is to face it.
To sit with it.
To let it teach you what it's here to teach.
And then when you're ready.
To take a step forward.
Not because the pain is gone.
It may never fully leave.
But because you've decided that it's not going to control you.
Healing isn't about forgetting.
It's about integrating.
It's about taking the lessons from your loss.
From your regret.
And letting them become a part of who you are.
It's about using that pain to build something new.
Something stronger.
Something meaningful.
And if you're wondering how to take that first step.
Let me tell you this.
Start small.
You don't have to have it all figured out.
You don't have to have all the answers.
Just take one step.
Maybe it's reaching out to someone you care about.
And telling them what they mean to you.
Maybe it's taking a chance on something you've been afraid to do.
Maybe it's simply getting out of bed in the morning.
And deciding that today you're going to try.
Because that's all you can do.
Trying.
And as long as you're trying.
As long as you're moving.
You're not stuck.
You're not defeated.
You're not defined by your loss or your regret.
You're defined by what you do next.
And what you do next.
That's up to you.
You need to understand that for 90% of the journey.
You will not see the port.
But you can trust that if you do the right actions.
You'll eventually get there.
And it's the same thing with life.
You must understand that most of the time.
You won't see the fruit of your labor for an extended period of time.
But then once you hit the 99%.
You begin to see the port of destination.
The port of arrival.
And then you catch the second wind to maximize on the momentum.
For 99% of the journey.
Where most of you guys are at right now.
You will not see the port of destination.
But you must trust it.
But what if things work out.
And everything turns out better than you imagined.
What if things change.
Life has a funny way of unfolding sometimes.
So don't give up.
Wake up every single day.
Knowing that you're one step away from success.
Anything is possible if you're willing to work for it.
Just stick with it a little longer.
What do you have to lose?
Study yourself.
Make yourself better.
Don't worry about what anybody else is doing.
Learn from it.
Don't change who you are to become somebody else.
Think about the time that you spend in your life.
Trying to be somebody you're not.
If you put that time and effort and energy.
Into being who you were.
And who you are.
How much farther along would you be in life?
Six months.
You got six months left in the year.
Why don't you take those six months.
And donate that time to your future self.
Why don't you commit to something.
That you're going to thank yourself for doing.
Six months from today.
Because when January 1st rolls around.
You can either be six months closer to your goals.
Or you can be exactly where you are right now.
If not a little further away.
You can either get to January 1st.
And be so pissed off about what you did the previous six months.
That you feel like you have to change your whole personality.
With a whole list of resolutions.
Or you can get to January 1st.
And have things be going so well.
That you feel like you don't have to change anything at all.
Consistency compounds.
When consistency compounds.
You get a good life.
Many times people want to rush.
They want to accelerate the journey.
But they don't understand that the journey is lifelong.
There is no end goal.
There is no end destination.
You are in this journey.
From the moment you were born until you die.
So today is just another what brick that you're laying.
To build your ideal house.
What's that deep rooted reason?
So when fear shows up.
When failure shows up.
When haters show up.
When the numbers ain't going right show up.
What's going to keep you committed?
What's going to keep you consistent?
You've been consistent in a lot of stuff in life.
Are you trying to say that you can't be consistent in something that you love?
You can't be consistent at your dreams?
You can't be consistent in something that means the world to you?
You've been consistent at the wrong things.
You've been consistent at pleasing people.
You've been consistent at working for somebody else.
And you're telling me you can't bring that same energy to what you called to do?
Come on.
I'm gonna tell you this bro.
There is no getting out of the work.
There's no shortcuts.
There is no easy route.
And there is no quick fix to becoming the greatest version of yourself.
The longer that you avoid the hard work.
The more comfortable you get in life.
You stay comfortable in the depression.
Stay comfortable in the situation that you're in right now.
Because when you're comfortable you lose motivation.
You lose focus.
You lose sight of your goals.
You lose sight of where you want to be at in life.
You have the ability to make those changes.
There is no difference between you and successful people.
The difference is what they do.
Your life is created by what you do.
Your daily habits.
Your daily habits determine what your life is going to look like.
Who you surround yourself with determines what your life is going to look like.
If tomorrow wouldn't promise, what would you give for today?
Forget everything else.
Forget that there was any sunlight left.
What would you spend today?
Think about it.
We get one opportunity in life.
One chance in life.
To do whatever you're going to do.
To lay your foundation.
To make whatever move you're going to make.
Whatever legacy you're going to leave.
Leave your legacy.
And inspire people.
We're the ones that's coming down with the
the ambulance.
Nobody can judge us.
The ambulance is between you and you.
Ambulance ain't got nothing to do with nobody else.
Pain of discipline or the pain of regret.
Go for the discipline because it weighs ounces.
The regret weighs tons.
95% of our decisions are made by how you feel in the moment.
And that is the problem.
Do you feel like making that cold call?
No you don't.
Do you feel like doing that third set of reps?
No you don't.
And if you accept the fact that you may never feel ready.
And you may never feel motivated.
And you may never feel courageous.
And that's okay.
But you can still push yourself forward.
As you start to see yourself becoming the person that takes action.
Guess what happens?
You build the skill of confidence and courage.
You think that everything the mind tells you, I need to follow.
That means freedom.
No.
For us it's the other way around.
To learn and not follow what the mind tells you.
This is the first step towards freedom.
You have to constantly rewrite your book every day of your life.
These are conversations I have with myself.
And I say it everywhere I go.
The most important conversation when you have it yourself.
You live with it every single day.
But most of our conversations are not the right ones.
They're not the ones that are going to push us to the place we need to go.
They're the ones that are going to keep us sitting in that toxic environment.
That you've helped create.
And everybody else helped to create.
And you just live in it.
And that conversation just plays in your head.
That becomes you.
Working on yourself.
Talking to yourself.
That's so very important.
Overcoming the negative conversation.
That inner dialogue that's going on all the time.
All the time.
Even when you don't want it to be there.
You can't stop yourself right now from thinking.
You can't do it.
It's going on.
And so learning how to empower yourself.
Part of doing that is standing up to yourself.
You get scared sometimes.
Your mind will go blank on you.
Some people you will allow to unnerve you.
And you wonder, what's wrong with me?
I'm not crazy.
That's why you've got to learn to make a conscious,
deliberate, determined effort to stand up inside yourself.
Working on yourself.
Watching that inner dialogue.
It will determine the quality of your life.
You cannot grow.
You cannot mature.
You cannot get better.
You can't become anything of value to yourself.
Or to anyone else.
If you shut the door to regrets.
Now you don't let regrets drag you down.
You don't let them destroy you.
All right, I've talked about this before.
You don't let the man that you used to be.
Destroy the man that you are today.
Or the man that you're trying to be today.
All right.
But balanced regret is what helps you become a better man.
Unbalanced guilt is what destroys you.
Unbalanced guilt of who you were.
And what you were in the past.
Or today.
Destroys you.
Balanced, open-eyed, thoughtful regret.
Of core decisions you made in the past.
It's what helps you build and become better.
And become stronger.
That is that check valve.
That helps you not make that decision again.
Make a promise and keep it every single day of your life.
And you will no longer be afraid of yourself.
The fear only comes from uncertainty.
And if you don't know what to expect from you.
That's what gets you in trouble.
If you're a thoughtful person with strong intention.
It probably feels like everyone's against you.
So you better get on your own team.
So you don't feel alone.
When you're on your own team keeping the promises.
You will sacrifice a lot.
But I will tell you from experience.
That the sacrifice is worth every single moment.
Once you realize you don't have to bear the emptiness.
That consumes all too much of this world.
What kind of permission do you need?
To do the thing that you and I both know you really want to do.
The thing that not everyone is going to approve of.
But you know you're meant to do.
What kind of permission do you need to get up and get after it?
Yes there's some risk.
Mostly just a bruised ego.
But you know what's a hell of a lot worse than that?
Living with the regret of inaction.
Knowing the thing that you need to do.
The scary steps that you have to take.
To grow into the person that you know you want to be.
And doing nothing.
So if you need it.
This is your permission slip.
Go do what you need to do.
It says life is not linear.
It's cyclical.
Accepting this allows us to flow with the process.
Instead of resisting it like we just said.
Understand that life is cyclical.
You are going to move in cycles as an individual right?
So don't get so emotionally attached.
To the seasons where everything feels good.
That you think that that's how your whole life should be forever.
Because the moment it isn't that.
You're going to feel like everything's hitting the fan.
Something's wrong.
You're doing something wrong.
You're going to internalize that and identify with that.
Just because you don't feel good.
Doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.
Just because things are difficult.
Does not mean you're going the wrong direction.
No it's a part of moving in the right direction.
And you have to be willing to embrace those times.
Understanding they're serving a greater purpose.
You have to remind yourself of this.
Understand it is serving a greater purpose.
This is part of the journey.
And it will not last forever.
And so many people they need to have a 5k.
A 10k.
I need to have a course in front of me.
I need to have something in front of me.
For me to get my ass up and do some ----.
And that used to be me.
And nowadays you know for the past 20 something years.
I don't need a purpose.
And people miss out on this man.
The purpose.
We're all looking for this golden purpose.
Is it this?
Is it that?
Is it my family?
The purpose is you.
This worrying thing.
It's the one part of my life.
That if I could go back I would fix.
Even the things I've worried about in my life.
When they actually happened.
They weren't as bad in my body and in my mind.
As they were when I was worrying about them.
And when you worry about it.
You experience it hundreds of times.
Your mind doesn't know the difference.
Between this thing you think is going to happen.
And something that really happens.
And so the turmoil you're putting your body through.
And the debilitating effect it's having on your current circumstances.
I actually believe.
That this is one of the most debilitating things you can do.
For your physical health.
Not just your mental health.
And what happens.
Interrupt the pattern.
Go change your physiology.
Do something to change your state.
It's taking everything from your life.
It's taking your joy.
Your passion.
Your peace.
Your energy.
Your focus.
Your determination.
Your resourcefulness.
So please stop.
And I'm talking to me as much as I'm talking to you.
Give yourself a gift of controlling that imagination of yours.
That beautiful mind of yours.
Sometimes it's not about the things you need to do.
That make us successful.
It's the things we need to stop doing.
That hold us back.
And I'll tell you right now.
Those weak habits.
They got to break.
Your mindset has to be reshaped.
You have to believe the odds are beatable.
Even when people say it's impossible.
That's what I call faith.
And I'm going to tell you right now.
That's what it's going to take.
24, 7, 365.
You got to live it.
Breathe it.
Be it.
Every single day.
You got a concrete challenge that gets in the way.
And remember.
It's more about what you do.
And less about what you say.
So if your life couldn't say one word.
What would your life speak?
Would it still say you about that life?
Would it still say you about conquering your struggle?
Creating new peaks?
Would it still say you about getting the most out of your life?
Every moment matters.
Especially when you realize.
Over 150,000 people die every night.
That's 55 million people a year.
Ain't none of this promise.
Ain't none of this guarantee.
So the question I'll leave you with is this.
When you fight your last fight.
When you breathe your last breath.
If this was your last year.
What's the legacy that you're going to leave?
Get up and go live your dreams.
Make the world respect your greatness.
Make this year your year.
It all starts with you.
