After a couple week of rain in British Columbia, I finally found a beautiful day to cook a banana bread on dutch oven by the lake.
Kitty, I think we found the best spot for today. Look at the view guys. What?
All right, you want to go see it too? The view is on the other side, don't you?
Let's put your harness and go for a little walk. I think we're going to stay here. It's gorgeous.
Ready to check it out, kitty? There you go. Let's go. What a beautiful place. You like it, kitty?
We're not very far from the main road. Just pull down here and I think it's got some trail that
we can go here to go right on the water. We have our own little trail, kitty. That's awesome.
Oh, what a beautiful place. If people would pack up our garbage, it would be even better. But wow,
my goodness. Guys, we have this whole lake for ourselves. What? Oh, you like it, kitty?
I'm going to do some exercise being back and down those stairs with the firewood
and everything if I make a fire downstairs. You don't mind, kitty?
You're a good climber. There you go. Having fun?
Wait for me. I'm going to need firewood. Probably going to need more than this.
So I'm going to have to go chop some. And we've got chars and jackery in the same time.
And the floor is already dirty with everything. Whatever.
So I don't really have that much time right now, but hopefully it's going to poke up here pretty
soon. And if you didn't watch my previous video, I've come some problem with my main electrical
inside my van, my 2 AGM battery. I just didn't seem to be 100% full. So I'm kind of like,
I have to save my power. So this is an extra battery. This is an extra power, which is great
if I can get as much power from the sun. If my heater at one point, I'm not able to
have it on for some reason because I don't have enough electrical, this I can just plug
an electric blanket and I'm good to go. Especially at this time of year when it's not that cold.
Also, you know, every other thing like charging my camera is always on the jackery
and charging my laptop too as well. And you can charge the jackery, every jackery with
your part of your van, just with the 12 volt cigarette lighter or inside your house if you
do have a house. So today I'm going to try as much as I can to get sun with those two panels.
And hopefully I can charge a little bit more of the jackery. I'm sure the sun's going to focus,
get a big opening here. It's just right now, a little bit behind a cloud, a little bit further.
So hopefully I can get some charge and not having to worry too much about my electrical.
So the plan for today was to get a fire, enjoy this beautiful day. I needed, I really needed to
kind of relax and not, you know, be inside the van with the rain and all this. I'm just
a little bit tired to be honest with you of the rain. It's been, I think we're breaking
some record for November of rain right now. I'm not 100% sure about that fact, but
yeah, we had a lot of rain. So yeah, we're going to bring everything down here. So I'm going to
have to do a couple of travels. So I'm just going to prep everything so I can bring everything in
one time. And Kelly's already like, let's go mom. She's so happy to be outside. It's Kelly's chair,
my chair, bags. So I'm just going to bring a bag to pick up the garbage downstairs so I can grab
this. I think I'm going to put everything in this bag. So I don't like have just one trip to do.
And because I only have like one bundle of wood and I want to cook on a Dutch oven,
I'm going to go grab a couple of branch and things. And one of subscriber give me this,
I think it was last, last June. And it was something on just when, just before the wildfire,
like in British Columbia. And obviously he knew, and I told him I'm not going to use it right away
because we have a big fire ban. But he gave me the saw, which apparently is the most awesome saw.
I'm going to test it out probably today. And yeah, apparently I'm going to be able to cut some
branch and woods, super fast and all that. So it's going to be a little extra. I always like
to have like one bundle that I purchased at the, this one I purchased at the gas station.
And after that, get the rest on my own. Sometimes I find some wood too. So it's always great when
you find some already chopped, already prepped. It's got a little bit downstairs, but it's pretty
wet. And I think the rest of the wood that I'm going to find would be wet. So
I think I'm going to bring some fire starter too, because it's so damp. Even the wood that I got at
the gas station was outside in the little shed, but you can tell it's wet also. All right. All
right. This is going to be, bring it back to the van later on and dispose at the right place,
not in nature. All right. Let's try to make a fire now. All right. This is the fire so far.
Not the greatest. I'm trying to dry a couple of pieces of wood too and make things happen.
And kitty just chilling here. So I just went inside, have a little something to eat because
I didn't eat all day. And I plan on making, well, you know, probably with the title, I plan on making
a banana bread. Yes. I have some banana that really, really needed to get eaten. And I found
a recipe. So I was like, Oh, that would be a good thing to do with Dutch oven, banana bread. But I
really have hard time to raise the temperature of the fire right now. I'm trying to put branch.
So when I put a little bit more of the wet branch, they will dry, you know, and things
will be all right. But right now it's just constant battle. And I'm almost out of the wood that I
purchased. Uh, one log that was kind of waiting, uh, because I was hoping to get to start on the
fire after the Dutch oven, because Dutch oven, you have to cook pretty much just on shark. Like
it's just, it's the fire is pretty much gone. It's just, you raise the temperature and banana bread
need to be on fire for an hour. So I'm going to work a little bit more right now. It's one o'clock
and the sun set, I think at four right now, super early. Uh, so this is why I wanted to do this
this afternoon. And I was hoping for a beautiful sunny day. No, it's been cloudy in my, I just look
at the Jackery and the sorter, and I think I got 2% so far. Uh, not so much, but I guess
2% is better than nothing. Hopefully the sun's going to poke a couple, a little more, more time
and can get a little bit more sorter. Uh, so yeah, I'm going to work on a little bit more on the fire
and eventually let it go so we can just start making the banana bread and hopefully have
nice warm banana bread with chocolate chip.
All right, I made it to where I wanted to go. I want to try to see if I can cut this one here.
See if it's good. Oh yeah. Let's try this. It's pretty longer than I thought. Great. All right.
This is not the best, but we'll see. It cuts so fast. I'm not sure if it's a great,
great tree for that though. Great. Cool. It's got a couple. This is so easy. Thank you so much. I
don't remember your name. I'm going to have to look. It was one of my Patreon. Uh, I'm so bad
I'm so sorry. But I have like a bow saw that I purchased for like $20 and you know what I mean?
It's nothing, nothing major, but just to help me. And I was, to be honest, every time I was
cutting a piece of wood tree was so hard. Like I felt like, Oh my God, I really paid for that fire.
But Oh my God, this is awesome. All right. So I'm going to start the recipe, but they asked for
coconut oil to make the banana bread. Uh, I'm vegan. So you're going to have a
couple of ingredients different that you probably your usual, usual banana bread.
But I do, I thought I had some and I forgot to look, but I'm going to use,
I'm just going to melt some, uh, basil, uh, margarine or they call it butter, uh, vegan butter.
And yeah, that's going to replace my coconut oil. And I'm going to put everything in this bowl
because I don't have any mixing bowl. So I'm going to start with melting the butter.
So I have two very, very ripe banana, which is perfect for banana bread and I have two just
yellow, but we got to make it happen. So they asked for four banana. So I just put the parchment
paper. So because the recipe was asking for it and a second, it's going to be easier for me to
remove the banana bread when it's going to be cooked. So the recipe was just like this,
but I thought I could add on top some chopped walnuts and a little bit more brown sugar on
top too. All right. I look good. So I'm going to put this for 45 minutes. It's going to look after
that. So for those of you wonder what I do when I put the Dutch oven, um, so I try to have like
some log right beside it. Um, so those will keep the Dutch oven warm and I put a couple on top
and because this will stay for a good hour, obviously the charcoal just get weaker and
weaker. And I try to keep a certain temperature, which I try to just guess how it is. Um, so I put
a couple little piece of dry wood that I just made with this log. This is why I kept one.
So I just chopped a couple little pieces, put that on top. So it kind of, kind of like
keep all the warm and yeah, this is what I do and try to not look underneath too much,
try to not lift the, uh, the lid too much. Uh, but yeah, once in a while I do it just to,
just to make sure I don't burn anything. And I turn the Dutch oven couple of times because
some part, sorry, I'm in a smoke right now. Um, some part of the Dutch oven are right beside some
log and on the other side is not like the logs are not that warm or whatever. So I try to just
keep things warm all around. Smells so good. Let me show you. Hold on. I need you. Give me a sec
right now. I got it. Oh my God. It looks so good. Oh, I can't believe it. Okay. So I look a tiny
little burn here. I mean, it's nothing major. That side is a little bit more,
a little bit more soft here, but it seems to be cooked all the way in.
We're gonna like, you know, are good. It is banana bread. Just getting out of the oven.
I'm digging it right away. All right, let's do this. Oh my God.
Oh my God. So the center just, just fine. Just, oh, it's so good.
Oh, it's perfect guys.
And the walnut on top make it really good. A little crunch.
I'm so happy to cook on the Dutch oven now. I'm keep looking at the weather and just hoping
that the day is not going to rain just to get out in the wood and cook with a Dutch oven.
I don't know. I like the challenge and it's nice when it's been like three years that I don't have
like any oven inside my van, inside my car, obviously. So it's nice to be able to cook
some dessert and you know, just cooking some stuff that I usually will do on a regular stove.
So really, really appreciate it. Thank you for joining me guys. I think I'm going to enjoy the
fire and after that, go back inside and start my heater. I think I have just enough battery to have
a couple hours of, of heat tonight. So it would be great. I always get cold. I don't know why after
I have a fire. I think it's so warm when you go inside and it's just like, uh,
so this is what I'm going to do. And thank you Jackery to sponsoring this video.
If you are looking for a battery, a Jackery, I do have a 10% discount. I'm going to leave that,
all the links in the description, but thank you Jackery because right now that I have a little
problem with my main battery, it's nice to have like a second battery. Like the Jackery was kind
of like really independent and I can plug maybe an electric blanket tonight if I get cold in the
middle of the night. And it's really nice to have this and we should get the electrical look after
probably next week. I'm still, I was waiting for an email today, a phone call I should say,
but I'm out of service right now. So I'm going to look at this tomorrow. So yeah, we should have
this to look after probably next week will be great. Uh, right now I seem to not be able to
fully charge my battery. It seems to only be able to get to 80, 85%. So because it's a 2Ah battery,
I cannot drain them more than 60%. So give me just a small amount of battery use, uh, for my,
all my stuff. And, um, I plug all my laptop in my camera, uh, with the Jackery only.
So yeah, it's kind of like two systems, but work great when it works. Uh, so right now I'm just,
yeah, we're going to make that fix and I'm going to enjoy this and, um, probably go for a second,
second piece. Oh, it's so good guys. Seriously. I'm so happy to work. I'm getting pretty good
at the Dutch oven thing. I'm impressed myself. All right, guys, I will see you next time.
