I went camping alone on a hill overlooking the sea. Join me in immersing in the beautiful sunset, deafening sounds of the crickets, and stunning views of the straits of Malacca. The morning after followed gracefully with a meditative drip coffee making session, and a nourishing oriental breakfast.
Hello, how is it going guys? Welcome back to the channel. I am at an incredible location.
This is a campsite on a hilltop with a view of the ocean. The name of the campsite is Skyring
campsite located in Batu Fahat, Johor. It is my first time in this campsite and in fact,
it is my first time camping in Johor. It feels good to be here. My car is over there. That is
the gate to this campsite. It's not a very big campsite, just a small plot but it sure is
beautiful. That is the Malacca Straits and the sun would be setting here. So let's hope for a
sunset later in the evening. My car is over there at the car park. Vehicles are not allowed in so
I'm not going to car camp today. I'm just going to use a ground tent with a ground sheet below
and a flysheet above. Just like good old times. It's actually pretty warm. There's a lot of
mosquitoes here. Let's get this done as fast as possible.
I have forgotten how sweaty it can get when setting up a ground tent system but
it always feels good. Guilty pleasure. Best feeling ever. It is a pretty little campsite.
It's not big. I think this is the main campground and there's another slightly higher campground
over there but I think that can only fit one or two tents and over here maybe about five.
Yeah it's kind of small but I kind of like it. Looks like a forest over there
and I think this is Tanjung Minyak Beku village of Batu Pahat and beyond that is the ocean
and that's the Malacca Straits. Oh and there's actually a graveyard over here.
Look at the beautiful tree over here. Rubbish bins provided and you've got a wash area
with a view and five toilets. They're all squat toilets and every squat toilet comes with a shower.
I think this is what they meant when they said answering nature's call.
It's a gated guarded campsite and cars are not allowed in the campground so
the parking spots are there and there's also a buddhist temple up there. So Skyrim campsite
as the name suggests it is exclusively for those who are Skyrim gamers and to enter this compound
you will need to enter a secret code to actually unlock the gate and it is Fus Ro Dah.
Oh just kidding guys. Oh my god no it's not exclusive. Anyone can come.
What a bad joke Jun. What a bad joke. Campers also have the option to pitch their tent up here
up a flight of stairs. Not bad at all but surely there are more mosquitoes here
so I think I'm pretty good down there.
Time to cook dinner with a view. So I am cooking. Oh the water is boiled. I'm gonna cook
instant kimchi noodles and since I have this new toy which is a boiler cum steamer, I'm going to
steam some edamame along with that and then boil an egg while I steam the edamame. Yep sounds good.
Sunset was short-lived but absolutely beautiful. Dinner is served. Instant kimchi
noodles with boiled eggs and lobster steaks and steamed edamame. Done with dinner. I've also washed
the dishes. Time for a little dessert. Temperature has definitely come down. When I came at 3 or 4
p.m, wow it was hot. For those of you who would like to come to this campsite, oh sorry for
flashing you guys. Yeah if you're thinking of coming, I think the best time to come would be
after 5 p.m so that it's not too hot when setting up camp. Taking into account that you'll be able
to set up camp before sunset because you really want to sit down and enjoy the sunset here. It's
really beautiful. Don't forget your mosquito repellent because the mosquitoes here can get
quite crazy between 5 to 7 plus p.m. But now the temperature is really nice and there's no
more mosquitoes. It's really peaceful and quiet here. Really lovely here. Okay time to clean
myself up with a cold refreshing night shower and then I'll head to bed. Morning. I had quite a
sleep last night. I was just tossing and turning, tossing and turning. But nonetheless,
it is a beautiful morning. The weather is great. The birds are singing. It's time for coffee.
As you can tell, I have some new toys. So I'm making the switch from french press coffee
to filter coffee. And that is for health reasons. This filter paper essentially is able to filter
out more things, especially molecules which causes high cholesterol. So yeah, this is what I found
out online. I may be wrong. But you know, apart from health reasons, this is very meditative as
well. It's a really pretty place. I could sit here for hours and from here you can see
some greenery over here. Although there's a graveyard right in front of me,
but it kind of lends itself to a sense of calm, a sense of peace.
Yeah, and just watching those cars crawling on those tiny roads. And further on is the ocean.
It's the Malacca Straits. And I can see a few ships just slowly cruising by.
And beyond that, it's supposed to be the horizon. But the border between the ocean and sky
is blurred. It almost feels like the ocean and the sky are one and the same.
They are just one entity. It's amazing, isn't it? You know, many people have asked me,
hey June, don't you ever get bored solo camping? And I always don't know how to answer the question.
I mean, it just baffles me how one can get bored when camping alone. I mean,
when I wake up in the morning at camp, I could just spend an entire hour just
immersing in the morning scene, just listening to the birds, breathing in the fresh air,
do a little bit of filming, and an entire hour is gone. And then I spend another entire hour
making coffee, sipping on my coffee, just enjoying the scenery.
And then I spend another entire hour making breakfast and eating breakfast.
And then another entire hour just relaxing and maybe do a little reading.
So trust me, being bored is the least of my worries. No more coffee, it's time to make breakfast.
By the way, just to show you guys another new toy of mine. This is a stainless steel pot
from Fire Maple. I mean, this is essentially just a very simple pot.
Stainless steel with 1.2 liter capacity. You could boil water in here, you can cook rice,
cook noodles, cook pasta, basically anything in here. And they've also got a steamer tray and
this really excites me because it opens up a whole new world of options for what I can cook at camp.
And so it goes up here, you can put some water in here, bring it to a boil and it steams up your
food. And it's got this lid with a locking mechanism. Amazing. And the handle is great.
It doesn't burn your hand when you pick it up on the fire. And they also got this
handle which you can just directly put it over a campfire with a branch or a lock.
Amazing. So this was literally love at first sight for me because it is so simple and humble looking
yet very practical and functional. So I'm gonna be cooking steamed dumplings, siu mai. I'm gonna
transfer these into the steamer tray and put it there later. And then with the siu mai, I'm gonna
have mixed veggie with fish cake and egg drop soup. Yep, a very oriental menu this morning.
Let's get started.
Breakfast is served. Steamed siu mai
and mixed veggie egg drop soup.
Soup is actually pretty good. It may look clear and tasteless but it's quite flavorful.
I'm using this soup powder. Rempah soup powder that contains coriander, fennel, white pepper,
cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, star anise. All the good stuff. Really nourishing.
Let's try the siu mai. My siu mai is butchered.
Still good. Spotted a few monkeys on that tree just next to camp. They've got grayish black hair
but the face is white. And this morning I actually heard them and they did sound like gibbon.
In Malay we call it unke. But I'm not sure.
Amazing. I hope they don't steal my food.
And done with packing. I wish packing up was as easy as just a few snaps of the fingers.
But well, it is blazing hot right now. I just didn't want to let you guys sit through the whole
process. I guess this is the end of the video. I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. Despite
getting roasted, I had a pretty good time. And on the final note, never ever forget to take
your trash with you or put it in the bins provided. Really really important. And you
