Amazonica serves two Colombian desserts Cholados and Obleas. If you don’t know what these are a Cholados is a cross between a frozen dessert, fruit cocktail and a drink. Made with crushed ice, fresh fruit, condensed milk, and a mix of fruits, Colombian syrup and shredded coconut. Now Obleas are wafer like sweet filled with Nutella, Dulce de Leche or Jam.
I tried two Cholados and three Obleas and I was blown away! I had know idea these delicious Colombian street foods existed, now I know!

This is gonna be so amazing.
As he was making it, I was like, my jaw dropped
just because it looks so freaking good.
Mm.
What's up, everyone?
I hope you're all doing great.
This is David Hoffman from David's Been Here
in my beautiful, sunny, hot hometown of Miami, Florida.
And today I'm headed up to Little Haiti to Amazonica.
Amazonica is a very special spot.
This place makes two different types of Colombian desserts.
We have cholaos and we have obleas.
Cholaos are a cross between a frozen dessert,
fruit cocktail, and a drink made with crushed ice,
fresh fruit, condensed milk, a mix of fruits,
Colombian syrup, and shredded coconut.
And obleas are basically wafers
filled with Nutella, dulce de leche, or jam.
I'm super excited.
I've never tried these two desserts before.
I've been to Colombia before.
I've been to Cartagena and the islands,
but I've never made it down to Medellin, Cali, or Bogota.
So let's go up to Amazonica and try some Colombian sweets.
Let's do it.
Amazonica.
I've never been here.
Upper Buena Vista, Miami.
This is really cool.
It's like an open-air restaurant spot.
And here we have it, Amazonica.
Cholaos and obleas.
Amigo.
Hola.
What's up, man?
Pablo?
How are you?
Yes.
David.
Nice to meet you.
Pleasure, nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
My name is Pablo Rodriguez.
We are located in Amazonica right now.
This is in 5030 Northeast 2nd Avenue.
It's in Little Haiti, in Upper Buena Vista, exactly.
This is a typical street food from Colombia.
We sell cholaos, which is shaved ice
mixed with natural fruit puree.
Then we sell obleas, which is a thin, crispy wafer.
We use two, and we put the flavors inside.
We have nine, actually.
So we put it inside like a sandwich.
We also have pan de bonos and acai.
So that's basically our menu.
So cholaos are shaved ice mixed with natural fruit puree.
Then we put some fruits on top.
We have the refreshing ones and the sweet ones.
There are six flavors in total.
Obleas are thin, crispy wafers.
We use two, and we put the flavors inside.
We have nine flavors of obleas.
We're gonna try the tropicality,
which is a kiwi and lychee base.
Then it has some fruits on top,
like pineapple, green apple, lychee, and mint.
We're also gonna try the guava maria,
which is a guava puree.
And then we have vanilla ice on top.
We have guava squares, strawberries, and maria cookies.
And the obleas, we're gonna try the salted caramel pretzel,
which is my favorite.
It has salted caramel.
It has pretzels, whipped cream, and salt.
And then we're gonna try the merengón,
which is our bestseller.
It's actually whipped cream, strawberries,
merengues, and condensed milk.
We're also gonna try the coconela,
which tastes like sneakers.
It's Nutella, coconut, and peanuts.
Our first cholado is the guava maria.
Look at this.
This looks so beautiful.
So basically, what we have in here is maria cookies,
vanilla ice cream, guava puree, strawberry,
guava squares, and arequipe.
This looks so good.
But he was saying that this is like Colombian street food.
So, but obviously desserts.
Oh my God.
This guava with the ice cream and the cookie is fantastic.
Mmm.
So sweet.
It's really refreshing.
I love it.
They put a cookie in here and the strawberries
mixed with the guava and the vanilla.
It's a great blend of flavors.
Really feels like I'm at a tropical destination.
Obviously, we're here in Miami,
so you can't get any more tropical than this.
In other countries, this will be like granitizado.
Like in India, this is like ice cola.
It's shaved ice with all these toppings.
You got vanilla ice cream.
And the best part for me in here is the guava.
The guava chunks.
Mmm.
I'm in love here.
And if you come here, you gotta check out this place.
It's a really cool open air concept.
You have like a bar right here.
You have a tattoo place right here.
You have Fresh First.
This is Kraken Lab.
I've never even seen this place.
I've never been up here to Upper Buena Vista.
My first time.
Really cool experience.
Man, this cookie.
Look at this.
So incredible.
It's really amazing.
The condensed milk.
It always makes these things better.
The mix of flavors.
And here we have the guava chunk.
Really refreshing.
This is a bomb ass chalao.
I've actually never had chalao before.
Guava Maria.
Have to try it.
So the next chalao is called the Tropicality.
Lychee and kiwi puree.
Kiwis, pineapples, lychee, green apple, and mint.
The other one's more sweet.
This one's more of just like a fruit drink.
Oh, and what I love is that this spoon,
I can get my lychees right here.
Mmm.
Oh, I love lychees.
Dig it in.
Right there.
Pineapple with kiwis and lychee mixed together.
Mmm, you can really taste the mint.
Just gotta mix everything together.
I love how refreshing this is.
This is exactly what I need in this super hot Miami weather.
It really is an amazing combination of fruits.
This is the type of drink that you get in the Amazon.
Straight up.
Amazonica, Amazon, that's what they're all about.
All the flavors, the really tropical flavors
from that area of the world.
Oh man.
So this is like, if you're overheating
and you want a really fruity based chalao,
come here and get this.
Tropicality.
All right, so now we have the obleas.
So obleas are basically wafers with toppings inside.
I got three different ones.
I got the merengon, salted caramel, and coconela.
Oh my God, these things look amazing.
Look at this.
What?
Here we have the merengon, look at this.
So it's two wafers.
There's strawberries, whipped cream, and merengue.
Merengues are egg whites with sugar.
This is gonna be amazing.
Ready?
Oh my God.
So it's a little messy,
but I think it's been there for a while.
I love merengue.
With whipped cream and strawberries,
the best combination.
This one's like very sugary.
The way you find it in Colombia is not like this.
It's usually this nutella or arequipa,
which is basically dulce de leche.
It's the plant of the country.
This one's like super sweet.
Oh, that's amazing.
This one I think is gonna be my favorite
because this is the salted caramel.
Salted caramel has crushed pretzels,
whipped cream, and salted caramel.
Look at this.
This one's gonna be so amazing.
As he was making it, I was like, my jaw dropped,
just because it looks so freaking good.
The mix between the salted caramel,
the crushed pretzel, and the whipped cream.
Wow, this is like super sweet.
These are all gonna be sweet.
I mean, this is just how it is.
No, you have one that's a s'more.
This feels like a s'more, though.
Like a salted s'more.
If you're gonna come up here,
you have to try this oblea.
It's so ridiculous.
Oh my God.
Amigo, este es el mejor.
Oh man, it's so good.
It's crunchy, it's sweet, it's filling.
Wow, I'm gonna hold on to this one.
The last one we have is coconela,
which is basically Nutella.
It's Nutella with shredded coconut and peanuts.
Okay, here we go.
I've never had shredded coconut with Nutella before.
That's a bomb combination.
Wow.
It's addicting, man.
Do you like it?
I love it.
If you've been watching my videos,
you know that I grew up with Nutella.
My mom's born in Venezuela, but her family's Italian.
And this is like part of our upbringing.
We would have this with pancakes.
I actually give this to my daughter like every day,
like pancakes with Nutella.
Well, I don't give it to her every day.
She wants it every day,
but I like try to veer away and give her oatmeal.
But wow, this is so amazing.
The crunch right there, look at this.
Me estoy enredando rápido.
I'm going to combine these two together,
see what happens.
I didn't know Colombia had this.
Obleas.
I'm going to fly to Colombia just for this.
This is so ridiculous.
The mix here.
I'm hitting a wall because I had lunch earlier,
but these are so good.
I mean, you have to come up to Upper Buena Vista,
Little Haiti, and come to Amazonica.
Try Cholaos and Obleas.
For me, the Cholaos, my favorite one was the Guava Maria.
That was just amazing because it's not just a fruit drink,
it's like a dessert fruit drink.
Oh man, it was so good.
And of these Obleas, I mean, they were all amazing,
but I have to say the Salted Caramel and the Coconela,
I mean, those are the two outstanding ones.
Salted Caramel is probably my favorite,
like so freaking good, but I just did a combination.
I just put them together and it's like,
buy both, combine them, you won't regret it.
That combination is almost like a s'more right there.
They also have a s'more one if you want a s'more.
A s'more Oblea, amazing.
Next time, next time.
Now you know if you're in Miami,
come up here to Amazonica.
You will love the Colombian street food here.
I didn't even know about this.
I had no idea Colombian street food was this delicious.
Decadent dessert for sure.
