Today you'll join me in setting up one of the rarest and most beautiful fish I've ever kept, the Channa aristonei. It's a fish rarely seen in aquariums, with stunning color changes and captivating behavior. In this video, I'll not only show you the setup from scratch, but I'll also explain why this fish is so special, how its color change occurred, and what details I considered to create a habitat that truly does it justice.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to a new video where we will have a montage
new for a fish I haven't introduced to you yet, and which today is one of my favorites
Del Fishroom. I present to you my Chana Aristonei, commonly known as Chana Red Mosaic,
It has nothing to do with red, because look at those stunning blues it shows us.
It is undoubtedly considered one of the most colorful and exotic snakehead fishes.
What we can find here is a pleasure for me to present to you today in one of my aquariums
del fishroom. But before I continue telling you about this species, I ask you to pause for a moment
In the video, go to the comments section and leave your suggestion for a name for it.
since together with Luciana I'm sure it will be one of the most iconic fish on the channel.
And since you've left your comment, I'll tell you that I found it difficult to keep one of these fish.
since they are usually hard to obtain and, in addition, are not that easy to care for
difference from other species. I acquired two of them about four months ago.
Both had already reached about 15 cm in length, meaning they were already fairly large and definitely not
se were nothing like what they had seen a moment ago in the introduction, lacking color and being
they were very apathetic. This is completely normal with this type of fish and that is why
They are also often underestimated; one wouldn't think a fish that arrived in this state would end up like this.
The truth is, the change is brutal, and here the meme "if you didn't want me" applies perfectly.
When you see me like this, don't look for me when I'm like this. Anyway, my intention is that you could have
both living together in the same aquarium, hoping they were a male and a female, although here
It was harder because big ones had already arrived, unlike, for example, the andrao, which were still coming.
I showed in one of the previous videos that they grew up together from a very young age. Here.
The dynamics are different. I placed both of them in a 300-liter aquarium that was divided by
a grid intended so that they could see each other and gradually become accustomed to one another
Over time. Once a week, I would remove the grille and observe its behavior,
However, the outcome was not as expected; one would attack the other, and I had to separate them.
Again with the grid. I repeated this process several times without success. It should be noted that this is
They must always be monitored; you cannot leave them like this and walk away, as they could hurt themselves.
severely. In the end, according to what I saw, I understood that they might not be compatible despite
because they appear to be a male and a female, just look at the striking difference in colors there
Hey, there's one that's more royal blue and the other is more turquoise—anyone would think
What is a male and a female, but not necessarily so, and after this I decided to leave her the one
It's royal blue to a friend, and I'll keep the other one, which is the one you'll see in this video and for which
We're going to do today's assembly. This little girl is already quite spoiled and has
An excellent attitude, in fact, it took him a good while to develop the attitude you're seeing on screen.
It's approaching, it's very active, this didn't happen overnight, and also the color,
Right now she looks really blue and really pretty, but when she arrived, she was like this.
In fact, this is a shot from the first few days in my aquariums; it's a very, very big change.
but with good care, it gradually gained more confidence until today, when it's practically
It's like an aquatic dog, and after chatting a bit about her, we'll get started.
With the assembly, but first I'll take it out of the aquarium where it was, because we're going to work right here.
I'll assemble it and temporarily place it elsewhere while we carry out all the necessary changes.
This aquarium is 300 liters and will be his permanent home; it measures one meter twenty by fifty by
Fifty, and here we're going to recall a bit about when we first started the channel because I'll be using black vinyl
and a dark substrate just like the origins of Acoblox, how many of you here are still following me from back then
So when I had the irises and the valisneria, I wanted to do it like this so it's a bit different.
from the most recent setups, where we've always used sand around 20-30 and slightly frozen vinyls,
but mainly because, from my point of view, this fish stands out much more in such a composition,
dark. We began the assembly with the substrate; this time I'll be using Zikem's Florid, which despite
It's not a nutrient substrate per se, but it gives me the touch I'm looking for—making it appear dark.
It doesn't look as uniform as the sand from Imagitarium I've used before, and it's the color that
I need it. I took six of the largest sacks, four normal ones, and two of the sand type. The
The lamp I am going to use is a 120W RGB controllable Wick Aqua Z400 Pro lamp with app control, and it is
hung from a structure integrated into the rack. The filter is a Fluval 407 that was already present.
It's been working for a while; in fact, this little one had already been here for about a month with these roots.
It was fine, but I already needed a definitive house. After the substrate, we will place
The roots. I already had these ones saved over here; I gave them a quick pass with the grinder.
To clean them very well. I use a lot of applewood because it's a type of wood that's very easy to obtain.
It's national and has very cool shapes. These were already submerged, so they won't float.
You know this is the most time-consuming part of putting together a new montage.
The arrangement of decorative elements. I never really plan them; I always improvise.
At the moment, I'm gradually finding their form as the assembly progresses. In the meantime also
I took the opportunity to give the substrate a good rinse. And after the roots, I placed
rocks. These are called Elephant Skin, and it's a kit I bought a while ago and had been keeping stored. It's
It's a pity that the rocks are very similar in size and small, and I felt some were missing.
bigger ones, but anyway it doesn't matter; I placed them where the roots ended and these
They look very pretty and natural. It should be noted that this design is intended to have
shaded areas, hiding spots, and everything else so our Chana feels as comfortable as possible
Right. Well, that's how the arrangement ended up with the rocks and roots like that.
Now let's move on to the plants. Here I'm going to use only Anubias. These large ones were sent to me by Softish.
They're from the Trópica brand. They're stunning, and I'd already been looking for them somewhere for a while.
a place in one of my arrangements. They obtain them under the name Anubia Barteri var. Caladifolia...
Cala de... it will now appear on screen. I'll leave their details in the description.
Racks if you'd like to acquire some anubias like these. I tied them with some plastic ties.
The aquarium is full of black spots, and exactly what I told you happened. It's extremely cloudy.
You can't see what's inside well; even La Llorona might show up around here.
So let's let it clear up a bit because it's scary here.
The next morning we were feeling better, and we could finally see what we were doing.
I kept placing more Anubias into the gaps, gluing some of them with a tiny drop of gel cyanoacrylate.
By the way, I'm not going to put plants in the substrate here because this species is quite well
excavates and makes burrows, just like most chinchillas, so it's likely
I would uproot everything that's buried; there won't be any Vallisneria here, nor cryptocoines, nor anything like that.
That is why I chose only epiphytic plants, which are the ones that grow on trunks and roots.
just like the anubias. I had a very good number of small anubias that were just right
I was going to use these in this setup, but they were just lying around, they didn't even have power.
Well, anyway, it's time to put them to use here. I've finished attaching the plants.
but as it progressed, I ended up liking the edit less and less, in fact, I didn't even record the next part anymore
Ended it because I didn't like how it turned out when I took a photo of it; I felt it lacked shape.
I didn't like how the large anubias looked, nor did I like the small ones, in the end,
It didn't make sense to me at all, it didn't convince me in the slightest, I tried to convince myself that it did.
that the setup was fine, that maybe with a few adjustments everything would change
but the truth is I had that thorn in my side and I was never going to get rid of it, so I decided to make
I did it all over again—I removed all the roots, separated the plants, took away the rocks, everything.
And look there—there's Chana watching as I destroyed her entire setup, which was already ready.
Well, okay, I'll try again, and at least now I have a clearer idea in mind of what I want.
It occurred to me that having this type of root with these forms, large-leafed anubias and anubias
Small ones, I can do something that simulates a kind of tree, so I started arranging the roots from
In the middle, going toward the sides, I had to cut some because they were sticking out of the aquarium, and you know how it is
You shouldn't leave a chana's aquarium uncovered because they tend to be somewhat jump-prone.
so it ended up looking somewhat like a bonfire. I secured the wood very tightly with straps.
black plastic, you won't even notice them when the plants and everything else are in place,
apart from getting lost with the black vinyl. And once the wood was securely fastened,
I added some smaller pieces to better integrate the entire assembly.
I did glue these with cyanophylate, but before that I placed some rocks that are
different from those of the previous assembly, this one is known as petrified wood.
The ones I have are very flat, but I felt they could give a prettier touch than the others.
so I placed them beneath where the roots ended, at various points of different
The sizes were right, and once they were all in place, I finally nailed the wood very well.
And this is how the structure ended up, already with the rocks and roots.
Yes, it really does look like a little fire, but wait a moment—now comes the best part.
why did we start incorporating the plants? The larger anubias at the top,
like simulating the tree's leaves, it was actually quite good—finally, it didn't even look like a tree anymore.
But that was the idea. I tied them with the plastic fans, not too tightly so as not to damage them.
just enough so the chana doesn't move them, because these scrawny ones are way too much
By squeezing through the gaps, they can manage to dislodge some plants if they are not securely held.
If you look closely, you can see a bit of glue at the joints of some wood pieces.
The ideal way to prevent this from being visible is to do it before the cyanoacrylate hardens,
a little dust from the same wood needs to be sprinkled to connect everything and prevent it from
See there, the white part. But anyway, it doesn't matter; it will be covered up later by the anubias.
It's something over there that I'm telling you about, because if it's not visible properly, that white glue will be covered anyway.
Now let's move on to all the little anubias. I glued them one by one using gel cyanoacrylate.
Just a tiny drop, and we keep the anubia pressed against the wood so it sticks to
Just a few seconds, falls and done. This part was super slow and easy, I spent about three hours on it.
doing it. Even by wanting to open the glue all the way to my teeth and lips, I got stuck, don't do it
So, friends, don't try to uncork a bottle of cyanoacrylate that you've already opened with your teeth
Why might this happen? Anyway, I added a few smaller roots below to complement it.
Those that look like little red ones, but over time will gradually darken.
And after a little while of attaching all the anubias, this is the result.
It looks suspicious, so let's make a cut to see how it turned out the next day.
Caray, what a difference from the previous edit. I really liked this one quite a bit. Besides
The bottom part of the roots has tunnels where my chana can fit inside.
even in places where hardly any light reaches, which is extremely important for them.
If you're making an enclosure for a chinchilla, make sure it has hiding spots and shaded areas.
I glued the anubias as best I could, and I took my time placing them so they'd all look good.
the best possible way, and also so that the cyanoacrylate doesn't show, that's good,
If we get very demanding, we might just barely make out some tiny spots over there.
But it doesn't matter; over time they will be covered, no problem.
I think, in general, they ended up being very well attached.
I was also experimenting with the lamp's settings, so in the upcoming shots
If there are color variations, it's because I've been adjusting the settings.
especially the greens and the reds.
Well, that was already quite a lot, hehe haha, and now we're finally going to put in our fish, which has been waiting for us already.
Well, obviously she's not waiting for us, she doesn't care about this.
but at least so that it's in its final aquarium.
And now, finally, comes the moment we've all been waiting for,
We are going to incorporate our fish into its final aquarium.
But first, let's measure the temperature of both aquariums to make sure they don't vary much.
It didn't change; both were at 21.5, which is a perfect temperature for this type of chana.
What is a cold water chana?
We caught it, and now you're going inside for real.
I mean, why should I tell you how much it stands out in the aquarium?
It is more than evident.
He was exploring for a while, slipped into the hiding spots I made for him, climbed up to get some air,
After a while, I already had quite a bit of confidence,
Even as I brought my hand closer, she also came, just as she did at the beginning of the video.
And this is what I was telling you about this girl, that she adapts very quickly,
but not because this species is like this,
only because she is already accustomed to all the handling done in the fish room,
to me, to the water we use, to the environment, to everything.
That's why it hardly takes any time at all for it to adapt when I move it from one aquarium to another.
Notice that with the chanas I have a little finger movement I make,
that for them is like food,
So when I make this move, they already know I'm going to feed them.
Well, right now I'm not going to feed you.
I'm going to wait until the next day, but it's something I wanted to show you.
We're going to make a cut and show you how it looks the next day,
because the water was still slightly cloudy
And our Chana just joined half an hour ago.
So I cut it and see you the next day.
The next day she was already completely adapted to her new home,
He had been outside the whole time and was already waiting for his food.
So we tossed it an insect, which is its main diet and what I feed all the others.
Many people don't have chanas because they don't want to give them insects.
and to a certain extent I understand it because
Who would want a cockroach breeder in their house?
It's not something ordinary, although in my defense, they're not the kind of cockroaches you find in the sink drain.
Obviously they are special cockroaches.
These are widely used for reptiles; they do not climb, fly, or bite.
They are not radioactive; they are among the most noble, so to speak.
and even those that are the most nutritious are considered dubious,
These are the ones they're watching on screen, and these are the ones I feed my chicks with.
Well, I'm not exactly trying to convince them anyway.
Let them have their cockroach breeder and their hag.
Well, what I'm getting at is that these aren't that problematic.
like other species of cockroaches used as live food.
Now, they don't necessarily have to give them insects,
Yes, indeed, it's one of the best things one can give them.
There is no doubt about that, but they can also eat fresh shrimp,
fish, dry food for carnivorous fish
There are a lot of things they can give you that will nourish you very well.
and with which they can maintain them in the long term.
It grabs whatever falls into the water.
It's so hungry that even if a little guy shows up, it'll eat him, because it's kind of desperate.
With the trust he has in me, everything's fine with him now.
In fact, almost, almost I can take her out of the aquarium and she'll eat out of the water.
My dear, she was sitting with us at the Christmas dinner.
Well, anyway, what I'm getting at is that she's a girl who eats everything.
not like Miss Luciana, for example
It's a creature that only wants to eat cockroaches and refuses anything else.
This one is truly very special.
Another interesting thing about her is that she's already developed quite a heavy temperament.
Of course, since it has already reached adulthood, just bring my hand close and see how it opens.
as if saying, "Get away from there because it's going to go badly for you,"
So I don't even put my hand into the aquarium anymore
because I know he's going to do something to me, and it won't necessarily be something good,
so well and well,
A small update on Lucianita, who is doing well in Ocona.
I've never seen this with her until just a little while ago.
Now I'm going to tell you some interesting things about this girl in particular,
It was discovered in 2020 and is endemic to Meghalaya.
Meghalaya is a state in northeastern India.
and it is famous for being one of the rainiest places on the planet,
It's full of jungles, rivers, waterfalls, and caves; that place is a paradise.
And these we can find in nature
in streams with exceptionally clear water and a slow current,
but especially at cool temperatures,
since this chana is considered a type of cold water,
Just like the Chana Pardalis I've already shown you in other videos,
This is called Maya.
She's a female for a change; all the chickens I have are females.
and both share characteristics,
In fact, both are also from Meghalaya.
They are cold water, similar in size.
And in fact, the coloring is more or less the same.
although this one is much more colorful, definitely.
Now when I say this is a cold-water girl
It is because in their natural habitat,
The water is usually between 16 and 22 degrees on average.
And in winter, it can drop even as low as 10 degrees.
And in summer, there can be peaks that rarely exceed 25,
that's why in aquariums the constant heat above 26
And it can stress her, it will turn off her color
and it will affect their behavior in the long term.
While at lower temperatures it will remain active,
healthy and with those incredibly beautiful blue colors.
Now this is the complicated part of its maintenance,
In summer, I remove the glass covers and install grilles with a fan.
for the same reason that it is a relatively new species,
There isn't that much information about it either.
but anyway,
We have what is necessary to keep it well in the long term
And well, I've already introduced you to this wonderful little hen
yes, she is a female
So I hope you already have a name for her
And by the way, I'm also sharing the final lamp configuration,
It's going to be at 20% because they're all just Anubias.
and the lamp is 120 watts,
So with this, it is more than sufficient.
Besides the fact that Chana doesn't like very bright light.
Remember that you can purchase this and other models directly from us.

everything necessary so that they don't struggle in any way,
So, information in the description.
Friends, these fish are incredible,
No reason at all, they're currently among my favorites.
I have so many for no reason at all,
They are the fish with which I've been able to connect in a certain way.
those who give me the least work in every sense
They hardly get dirty,
the development they have over time,
the interaction,
in the end, there are many factors that have undoubtedly made
become a symbol for the channel,
so nothing,
Let's leave the video here for now,
Stay tuned for upcoming montage videos,
because right now the feed room has been completely renovated in every aspect,
I think this year is going to be the best one the channel has ever had, and that's it.
Now yes,
We'll leave the video here.
Receive a big hug from me, and see you in the next video.
