Hey guys! Welcome to the River and Wilder Show and Ultra Show!
Today, we've come to the river to catch a salmon.
Sorry river, this time of year the salmon are in the ocean.
Well, what are these things then?
Um, those look like tadpoles. This is a salmon.
Well, I want to catch one of those. Excellent, to catch a salmon
you'll need to join me out here in San Juan Bay, Port Renfrew.
We'll get the downriggers out and see if we can't get you hooked up to some
west coast monsters. Watch until the end
to see if we can land the big one.
That's huge! Get away from the boat.
Wakey wakey! Who's gonna catch the biggest one? Me! Me! Me!
I have the most experience. I think I'm gonna catch the biggest fish.
You're gonna catch a little minnow. You can't catch me.
Whoever carries the most stuff gets to catch the first fish. How about that?
What? Ow! Ow! Ow! What is wrong with you?
I'm gonna win the challenge. I'm carrying the most food. See?
Where's the cooler? I gave it to mom.
Uh, dad took us to the wrong wharf. Who knew there were two wharfs in this tiny
little town? Take two everybody. Oh wow, you're all
ready to go.
Hey guys, it's me, River. This is our guide,
Brent. He's one of the best in the business
and he runs Pacific Pro Charters. He's sort of like a professional monster
catcher.
Archer, you're not gonna fish? You're gonna hang out in here?
Wow, it does look cozy in here. Okay boys, so when I give you a rod, the fish
is gonna be pulling pretty hard. The big thing is you want to keep your
tip up. Rod up, rod up. You want it real, real, real.
I'm going to tell you to let go of the reel and it's going to start taking line
out and that's the fish running away. Now when the fish comes close, I'm about
to net the fish. I want you to keep that rod tip as high as you can
and lift back as high as you can. Lift that rod up, lift it up, lift it up.
All right, you got it? Yeah. So we're headed out on the open ocean
and the conditions look perfect for monster catching.
First, we'll bait the hook. Right there, it's an anchovy. You see that? There's no
barbs there. You've got to pinch them. Then add a
flasher to get their attention. We'll put the bait and the flasher in the
water and clip it to this, the downrigger, because the salmon we're
fishing for can be as deep as 200 feet. So the line with the lure and flasher
is pulled down by the downrigger to just the right depth
and when a fish bites, Brent pulls the line free
and sets the hook. Fish on. Dad decided he should go first.
I mean, he is an expert, right?
What did I do wrong, Wilder? You reeled it in too fast.
Yeah. Did I make a mistake? Who knows? It's okay, Brent. You can be honest
with us. No, you messed up.
Oh, fish on. Typically, you reel in one fish at a time,
but let's follow the three of us and see who gets the big one
in the boat. Wilder's is coming in a little too easy.
Oh, it's just the little guy. I caught a big one. It was only that big.
Whoa, mine's feeling pretty big. This might take a while.
It's not ready yet. Oh, Dad's is looking good too.
Mine's putting up a fight. Oh, it's close.
I see it. But close doesn't mean much when it comes to salmon.
Whoa, he ran back out again. Okay, I've got some more work to do and
with Brent's guidance, I was able to get it back to the boat.
That is the biggest fish I've ever caught. Good job, big guy.
How's the arm, sore? How do you feel, River?
Awesome. Oh yeah, it's a keeper and it weighs in at about 15 pounds.
Covered in fish. That's a success right there. Dad's is
putting up a real fight. You'll want to run.
He's not done yet. He's going to turn around and probably go. Whoa, this must be
a big one. That's what I was talking about. He's not ready yet.
I lost all the ground. I gotta reel some more.
You've got this, Dad.
This is gonna be a good dinner. Nice, 16 pounds.
Hey guys, it's me, Wilder. I think I'm cursed.
I can only catch a little fish.
Yep, the little guy's like me.
Not big. Am I doing something wrong? Number four, buddy. You're on fire.
Okay, this has to be the big one. Uh, no.
Oh, I'll never get it. We'll get you one, don't worry.
Hey guys, it's me, Archer.
Maybe my dance will bring Wilder good luck.
Or maybe Wilder needs some food. I was talking about sandwiches.
How's your sandwich, Archer? Good.
Okay, Wilder, there's only time for one more fish.
So it's your turn for the big one. Yep, I'm gonna tie this one for you.
Oh, this looks good.
Whoa, look at it go.
Go, go, go, go, go.
That is actually neat.
It went at least half a mile out.
Oh, yes, it's a flasher.
Whoa!
What is that?
Oh, that was good.
Okay, now reel up, lift up.
Nope, let go.
Lift it up, lift it up.
Come on, Wilder, you can do it.
Reel up, move back, move back.
Yes, yes, yes.
Cookie ball.
Wilder did it, and it's huge.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
What'd I say?
I was gonna tie you one up.
That is the biggest fish I've ever caught.
I can't believe I caught this.
That's a nice fish.
18 pounds.
That is a beauty.
That was the best day I've ever had.
You guys did awesome today.
I can't believe I caught this fish.
Dinner time for us.
We're back at the hovel.
And Brent's cleaning up the fish.
We're taking this to the restaurant for dinner.
Fish fry for five, please.
Frying up that salmon for you, buddy.
Man, can these guys cook.
Oh, yeah.
Let's take a look at that one there.
Dad, we have some fleece blankets.
That is a lot of fish.
Isn't it?
How is it, River?
It's good, it's good, it's good, it's good.
You gotta be like...
