Hello everyone, in today's video I will be showing you how to crochet these super cute
jellyfish keychains. This tutorial is beginner friendly and easy to follow,
so follow along and let's crochet one together step by step. Step one being materials,
you'll need a weight for yarn and a color of your choice. I'm going to be using pink. You
will also need a different color for the stingers here if you choose to add them,
some pink and black yarn for the facial details, a three millimeter crochet hook, some scissors,
a stitch marker, a yarn needle, some stuffing or yarn scraps, and a keyring. Okay, let's begin
making the jellyfish. We're going to start by making a slip knot. After your slip knot is made,
tighten it around your hook. Now that we have our slip knot here, what we're going to do is chain
four. After you chain four, this is what we have, just a little chain of four stitches,
and now we're going to slip stitch into that very first chain we made. So we're going to place our
hook inside of that very first chain, yarn over, pull through that chain and the loop on our hook
to make a slip stitch. What we've made here is a beginner friendly magic ring. We'll be
working all of our stitches inside of the center here. So let's start round one. We're going to
place six single crochet inside of this ring. So let's place our hook inside of the ring,
yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, and that's our first single crochet.
Now we're going to make five more single crochet inside of the ring, but when we do,
we need to make sure we're crocheting on top of this tail here so we can close the ring later.
So what that means is you just place your hook inside of the ring and make sure that that tail
is on top of your hook as well as the round like this, and then proceed making your single crochet
as normal. Now that was our second single crochet of the round. Now we're going to make four more
within that ring, always making sure we're crocheting on top of this tail here. Once you've
placed six single crochet inside of the ring, this is what it should be looking like, and now we're
going to slip stitch into this very first stitch here that we made. So let's place our hook inside
of that very first stitch, and then we're going to yarn over, pull through that stitch, and the loop
on our hook to make a slip stitch, and then chain one. Now at this point we've completed round one.
We're going to take this yarn tail back here and pull on it so we can close up our ring, and it
should close up really nicely like this. Let me explain how we'll work in the round. So we have
our slip stitch and our chain one here. These do not count as stitches within the round, and then we
have our last stitch here of the round right before our slip stitch. This is where we'll end our round,
and then the stitch that we slip stitched into is where we'll begin our rounds. I know that was a
lot of info, but I am going to break it down for you guys. Let's begin round two. We'll be placing
two single crochet in each of the six stitches that we just made. So let's start by placing
our first single crochet in that same stitch that we slip stitched into. Now this is our first stitch
of the round, so we're going to take our stitch marker and mark that stitch, and now what we're
going to do is go back in that very same stitch that we slip stitched into and place another
single crochet in that same stitch. Now what we have here is an increase, which is two single
crochet inside of one stitch, and we'll be doing this all the way around. So we're going to go in
the next stitch and place two single crochet within that next stitch. So this is our first one.
Now we're going to go back in that same stitch and place another single crochet so we can make
an increase, and now we're just going to continue placing increases in every stitch around. Okay you
guys, we're on our last stitch here. As you can see, it's right next to the chain one and slip stitch,
so this is our last stitch. We're going to place our last increase. Now at this point, we should
have a total of 12 stitches going around, so count your stitches and make sure you have 12.
Once you've counted your stitches and you have 12, what we're going to do is skip this slip stitch
and chain one, and we're going to slip stitch into that very first stitch that we made
where our stitch marker is. So we're going to remove our stitch marker and place our hook
inside of that stitch, and we're going to slip stitch and chain one. Let's begin round three.
What we'll be doing is single crochet increase, so let's start by placing our first single crochet
in that same stitch that we slip stitched into. Now we're going to mark that stitch as the first
stitch of the round, and now what we're going to do is make an increase in the next stitch. So we're
going to place two single crochet inside of the next stitch here. This is our first single crochet,
and now we're going to go back in that same stitch and place another single crochet to make an increase.
Now what we have here is single crochet increase, and we're going to continue to do that all the way
around. So let's place one single crochet in the next stitch. After our single crochet, we're going
to make an increase in the next stitch. So we're going to place two single crochets within this
next stitch here, and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around, and
I'll meet you guys at the end. Okay, we're at the end of round three here on our last stitch. As you
can see, the slip stitch and chain one are right beside it, so this will be our last increase.
At this point, we should have a total of 18 stitches going around, so count your stitches
and make sure you have 18. After you count your stitches, what we're going to do is make a slip
stitch in this very first stitch here. So we're going to remove our stitch marker and make a slip
stitch into that first stitch, and then chain one. Let's begin round four. What we'll be doing is
single crochet, single crochet, increase. So let's start by placing our first single crochet in that
same stitch that we slip stitched into. Now this is our first stitch of the round, so we're going
to go ahead and mark it, and now after a single crochet, we're going to place one single crochet
in the next stitch. After we have our set of two single crochets, we're going to go in the next
stitch with an increase. So we're going to place two single crochets within this next stitch here.
Now what we have here is two single crochet and then increase, and now we're going to continue
to do this pattern all the way around. So let's go in the next two stitches with one single crochet.
After we have our set of two single crochet, we're going to make an increase in the next stitch,
and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around, and I'll meet you guys at the
end. Okay, at this point we should have a total of 24 stitches going around, so count your stitches
and make sure you have 24, and once you do, what we're going to do is remove our stitch marker here
and slip stitch into this very first stitch that we made here, and then chain one. Let's begin round
five. What we'll be doing is single crochet, single crochet, single crochet, increase. So let's start
by placing our first single crochet in that same stitch that we slip stitched into. After you place
your first stitch, we're going to go ahead and mark it, and now what we're going to do is place
one single crochet in the next two stitches to complete our set of three single crochet.
Now that we have our set of three single crochet, we're going to increase in the next stitch.
Now what we have here is three single crochet and then increase, and now we're going to continue
this pattern all the way around. So let's place one single crochet in the next three stitches.
After you have your set of three single crochet, we're going to make an increase
in the next stitch, and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around.
Okay, at this point we should have a total of 30 stitches going around, so count your stitches and
make sure you have 30. Once you've counted your stitches, what we're going to do is slip stitch
into that very first stitch that we made, and then chain one. Let's begin rounds six through nine, so
the next four rounds will be the same. What we're going to do is just place one single crochet
all the way around. So let's start by placing our first single crochet in that same stitch that we
slip stitched into, and now we're going to go ahead and mark that stitch. After our single crochet,
we're just going to continue placing one single crochet in each stitch around.
Okay, we're at the end of round six here. We should still have a total of 30 single crochet,
and now we're just going to slip stitch into that very first stitch that we made,
and then chain one, and then continue this pattern for three more rounds.
Let's begin round 10. We should still have a total of 30 single crochet going around,
and now what we're going to do is single crochet, single crochet, single crochet,
decrease. So let's start by placing our first single crochet in the same stitch that we slip
stitched into, and now we're going to go ahead and mark this stitch. After our stitch is marked,
we're going to place one single crochet in the next two stitches. Now that we have our set of
three single crochet here, we're going to decrease using the next two stitches. We'll be using the
invisible decrease method. So what that means is we're just going to go in the front loop of the
stitch, not the whole stitch, but just this front loop here, and then we're going to go in the front
loop of the following stitch. So we have both the front loops on our hook like so, and now we're
going to go in the front loops, yarn over, and then pull through both of the loops on your hook,
and that is an invisible decrease. Now what we have here is three single crochet, decrease, and
we're going to continue that all the way around. So let's place one single crochet in the next
three stitches. Now that we have our set of three single crochet, we're going to make our decrease
here using the next two stitches. Now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around.
Okay, we're at the end of the round here. We should have a total of 24
stitches going around, so count your stitches and make sure you have 24.
Once you've counted your stitches, what we're going to do is slip stitch into that very first
stitch that we made. So we're going to remove our stitch marker here and make a slip stitch
into that very first stitch, and then chain one. Let's begin round 11. What we'll be doing is
single crochet, single crochet, decrease, but in this round we'll only be working in the back
loops. So not the whole stitch, but just the back loop here. Let's start by placing our first single
crochet in that back loop of the stitch that we slip stitched into. It might be a little bit
difficult, but we're just going to go in that back loop and make our first single crochet,
and then we're going to go ahead and mark that stitch as the first stitch of the round.
Now what we're going to do is make a single crochet in the next back loop.
Now that we have our set of two single crochet here, what we're going to do is decrease using
the next two stitches. This decrease will be a little bit different since we're working in the
back loops only, but what we're going to do is just go in the next back loop like that,
and then what we're going to do is yarn over and pull through that back loop.
And now what we're going to do is go in the back loop of the next stitch, yarn over,
pull through. Now we have three loops on our hook, and now we're going to yarn over
and pull through all three loops to make our decrease. Now what we have here is two single
crochet, decrease using the back loops only, and now we're just going to continue this pattern
all the way around. So let's make one single crochet in the next two back loops. Now that
we have our set of two single crochet, we're going to decrease using the next two back loops,
and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around. Okay, at this point we should
have a total of 18 stitches going around, so count your stitches and make sure you have 18.
Once you've counted your stitches, what we're going to do is slip stitch into the back loop
only of that first stitch that we made. So right here we're just going to go in that back loop
and make our slip stitch as normal, and then chain one. Let's start round 12. What we'll be doing
is a single crochet decrease working in the back loops only. So let's start by placing our first
single crochet in that same back loop that we just slip stitched into, and now we're going to go
ahead and mark that stitch as the first stitch of the round. Now that we've done our single crochet,
we're going to make a decrease using the next two back loops. Now what we have here is a single
crochet decrease, and we're going to continue that all the way around. So let's place one single
crochet in that next back loop. After our single crochet, we're going to decrease using the next
two back loops, and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around. Okay,
at this point we should have a total of 12 stitches going around, so count your stitches and make sure
you have 12. Once you've counted your stitches and you have 12, what we're going to do is slip stitch
into the back loop only of that first stitch that we made, and then chain one. At this point, we're
going to begin stuffing our jellyfish here. You want to stuff it generously, but not too much, so the top
is round, but the bottom can still collapse just like this. Let's begin round 13. What we'll be
doing is decreasing all the way around using the back loops only. So let's start with our first
decrease here. We're going to place our hook in that back loop that we just slip stitched into,
yarn over, pull through, and now we're going to go in the next back loop of the next stitch,
yarn over, pull through, and then we have three loops on our hook, and now we're going to yarn over
and pull through all three. And this is our first decrease, so you can mark that stitch if you would
like, but I'm not because my stitch marker is going to get in the way. And now we're just going to
continue decreasing in all of the back loops going around. Okay, at this point, we should have a total
of six stitches going around, and now what we're going to do is slip stitch into that very first
stitch that we made. We can slip stitch into the whole stitch this time, so go through that first
stitch and make a slip stitch. Okay, at this point, we're done with the jellyfish body. Now we're going
to make the tentacles, so what we're going to do is chain 21. After you chain 21, this is what it
should be looking like, and now what we're going to do is skip that first chain that we have from
our hook and go in that second chain from the hook here, and we're going to make a single crochet.
Now that was our first single crochet, and now what we're going to do is single crochet all the
way down this chain, so we're going to do 19 more single crochets. After you've single crochet all
the way down the chain, this is what it should be looking like, and now what we're going to do is
make a slip stitch in the next three stitches. So we're going to go in this next stitch here
and make a slip stitch. Now that was our first slip stitch, and now we're going to make a slip
stitch in the following two stitches. Now what we have here is the tentacle and then three slip
stitches, and now we're going to do this again. So we're going to chain 21. After you chain 21,
you're going to skip that first chain from the hook, and we're going to go in the second chain
from the hook with a single crochet, and now we're just going to continue to single crochet
all the way down this chain. Okay, we've made our second tentacle here, and now what we're going to
do is make a slip stitch into the next three stitches. So let's go in this next stitch here
and make a slip stitch. Now we're going to go in the next stitch and make a slip stitch,
and now at this point we've run out of room on this round, so we're going to transfer to the next
round of front loops that we have here. So what we're going to do is take our hook and we're
going to make a slip stitch right here where the round begins, and we're going to transfer to this
next round of front loops. So what you want to do is take your hook and then you want to pull it up
a little bit so we have a little bit of slack, and now what we're going to do is make a slip stitch
into that very first front loop here, and you can see by giving the yarn some slack,
we were able to transfer to the next round successfully. And now we're just going to
continue the pattern to make our tentacles and then slip stitch into the next three stitches,
and when you run out of room on a round, we're going to transfer to the next round using the
method that we just used right now. We're going to continue this pattern six more times to have a
total of eight tentacles. Okay, when you're on your last tentacle, this is what it should be looking
like, and instead of slip stitching into the next three stitches, we're just going to slip stitch
all the way back to where our seam is right here. So we're just going to make slip stitches
until we reach that seam. Okay, at this point we've slip stitched all the way back to the seam here.
We did that so our piece can be clean in the front and both of the seams will be in the same spot.
Okay, at this point we should have one more round of front loops remaining,
so we're going to transfer to this round of front loops using the method we used
earlier. We're going to go on that first front loop here and make a slip stitch.
After you make your slip stitch, we're going to chain one, and now we're going to begin working
on this round of front loops here. Okay, now what we're going to do is a single crochet,
three double crochet, and then slip stitch. So let's start by placing our first single crochet
in that same stitch that we just slip stitched into, that same front loop. We're going to place
a single crochet. After we place that single crochet, we're going to go ahead and mark it with
our stitch marker, and now what we're going to do is go in the next front loop with three double
crochets. So let's make our first one here. We're going to yarn over, go in that front loop, yarn
over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two. That's our first
double crochet within that front loop, and now what we're going to do is make two more double
crochet all within that same front loop. So we have a total of three double crochet in that front
loop. This is our second one, and now we're going to make our last one. Now we have three double
crochet all within that same front loop, and now what we're going to do is slip stitch into the
next front loop. Now what we have here is single crochet, three double crochet, slip stitch, and now
we're going to continue this all the way around. So let's go in the next front loop with a single
crochet. After our single crochet, we're going to go in the next front loop with three double crochet.
After you place three double crochet in that front loop, we're going to make a slip stitch
into the next front loop, and now we're just going to continue this pattern all the way around.
Okay, once you get all the way around, this is what your piece should be looking like, and now what
we're going to do is just slip stitch into that very first stitch that we made. So just go in
that stitch and make a slip stitch. After you make a slip stitch, chain one, and at this point we're
going to go ahead and cut our yarn off here, leaving kind of a long tail so we can weave it in.
And then pull up your loop, and now we're going to take our yarn needle and that remaining yarn tail
and just go from the bottom of the jellyfish here and come out anywhere you want, just so we can
hide this yarn tail. I'm just going to go across like this, and then come out, pull through,
and then we're going to cut that yarn tail off, split our yarn, and then make a few knots.
And after you make a few knots, you just want to cut it off and tuck it within the piece like so.
Now at this point, the base of the jellyfish is complete. Now we're just going to add the details.
Okay, we're going to start with the stingers here. So you want to take your stinger color
and you want to make a slip knot and then chain 50. After you chain 50, you want to fold it in
half and hold it up to your piece like this and see if you're happy with the length. You could
remove chains or add more chains if you want it longer or shorter. And once you're good with the
length, what we're going to do is just cut our yarn off here, leaving kind of a long tail like so,
and then pull up the loop. And then what we're going to do is just cut these tails a little bit
shorter but not completely off so we still have a little bit of a yarn tail. And then we're going
to take the yarn, split it, tie a couple of knots, and then we're just going to take the ends here
and line them up and snip them off so they create a little stinger. And now we're going to take our
yarn needle and thread the other side through like this and we're going to face the seam back
this way and then we're going to have the face right here in the front. So we're going to take
our yarn needle and go in from the side right here and come out on the other side like this
and pull through with the whole chain. And once you've pulled through with that chain,
just adjust it to make the stingers the same length. And now we're just going to knot and
cut this side to make the stinger on this side. Now that we have our stingers here,
we're going to add the face. So you want to take your yarn needle and your black yarn
and now we're just going to go on round eight, which is if you just go three rounds up like this,
this is round eight and that's where we'll be placing our eyes. So what you want to do is take
your yarn needle and we're going to go from under the jellyfish like this and we're going to come
out under round eight where you want your first eye to be. So we're just going to come up from
under that round like so and pull through with our yarn. And now what we're going to do is go on top
of that round and come out where our yarn is sticking out of right here and then we're going
pull through and as you can see that creates a little line and now we're going to do that again.
So we're going to go on top of that round and come out where the yarn is sticking out of,
pull through and that's going to create our first little eye here. And now what we're going to do
is count four stitches to the left. So one, two, three, four and this is where we're going to place
our other eye. So what we're going to do is place our yarn needle where our yarn is sticking out of
and go four stitches to the left and then we're going to come out and pull through with our yarn
and that makes our first little eye there. And now we're just going to do the same process we did
with this eye to make the other eye on this side. Once you've placed your other eye we're just going
to go where our yarn tail is sticking out of with our yarn needle and come out where we originally
started at the bottom here. And then you just want to take these two tails and knot them and cut them
and tuck them within the piece. Now we've placed the eyes now we're going to place the blush. So
you want to take your needle and your pink yarn and we're going to place the blush one stitch away
below the eye right here. So we're going to go from under the jellyfish like this and then we're
going to come out one stitch away below the eye right here like so. And then pull through with
your yarn and now what we're going to do is just go one stitch to the right like so and then we're
going to come out one stitch away below the eye on the other side. So right here we're going to place
our yarn needle there and then pull through with our yarn and that's going to make our blush on
the other side as you can see. And now what we're going to do is go one stitch to the left right here
with our yarn needle and then we're going to come out where we originally started down here
and then pull through with our yarn and that's going to complete our blush on this side. And now
all we need to do is take these yarn tails down here and knot them and cut them. Okay now we're
going to make this jellyfish a keychain. So you want to take your keyring and you want to take
your yarn needle with the color that matches your jellyfish and now what we're going to do is go
from under the jellyfish like this and we're going to come out on either side of round one here
and then pull through with your yarn. So now we have our yarn sticking out of the side of round
one and now what we're going to do is take our yarn needle and go through that bottom loop
of the keyring like this. So the keyring is on that yarn on top of round one and now what we're
going to do is place our yarn needle on the other side of round one like this and come out right here
where our yarn is sticking out of and pull through. And as you can see that has our keyring
at the top of the jellyfish and now we're just going to continue doing that until you feel the
keychain is secure and once you feel it is we're just going to go on this side of round one and
come out where we originally started at the bottom of the jellyfish and then knot and cut these tails
down here and that is our completed jellyfish. If you guys enjoyed today's tutorial be sure to
