WBSM presents the very Richard Show streaming live on wbsm.com and the WBSM app call 508-996-0500
text us using app chat on the WBSM app now the very Richard Show. All righty 108 on this kind
of breezy Monday making way for a really nice day tomorrow going to be in the mid-70s tomorrow
away from the ocean and uh mid to upper 60s right here on the coast so uh not too bad right um all
right a lot of things going on don't want to lose sight of some other things that are happening too
well actually there was something that happened this morning in Massachusetts uh a celebration
of the 20th anniversary of Romney Care remember Romney right remember Mitt Romney and um in Romney
Care and there was an event scheduled today at 10 o'clock at the um at Faneuil Hall Governor
Maura Healey um former Governor Mitt Romney former Governor Deval Patrick legislative leaders
health care policy experts marking the 20th anniversary of Massachusetts landmark health
care reform law at Faneuil Hall in Boston signed into law on April 12 2006 at Faneuil Hall
the legislation expanded access to affordable health coverage for hundreds of thousands of
Massachusetts residents according to a press release from the administration the Healey
administration before the law was enacted nearly 10 percent of residents were uninsured today
Massachusetts has the highest coverage rate in the nation with more than 97 percent of its
residents in choice sounds wonderful right but it's not it really is not as peachy and rosy
as Maura Healey I mean this is another hey look what we've done kind of thing as the democrats uh
clamor and hang on to power here in Massachusetts so um you know what also I found to be quite
interesting not only did Governor Healey Governor Romney Governor Patrick House Speaker Ron Mariano
former Senate President Robert Travolini Chiquita Brooks Lashore who's the former
administrator of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Audrey Morse Gastier
Gastier uh executive director of the Massachusetts Health Connected not only did they all participate
in this big ceremony today 20 years of Romney care um guess who else was there former
Massachusetts Speaker of the House Sal DeMasi now there were three in a row
speakers of the house in Massachusetts that resigned under a cloud of controversy
criminal activity indictments that kind of thing um but one went to prison
Salvador DeMasi Salvador DeMasi almost died in prison he developed cancer
and the state stripped him of his pension his wife fought to try to have the pension restored
and was denied I think a judge uh initially gave it to him and then uh the state supreme
court took it away from him again but Salvador DeMasi has been resuscitated he's alive and well
and uh apparently a um a figure in the democrat party that the democrats are trotting out Maura
Healey taking pictures with Sal DeMasi at Faneuil Hall today do they not have shame there would be
a time when um a convicted criminal corrupt crook like Sal DeMasi would not be seen he would be
banished in Mitt Romney I mean hello uh Mitt Romney rubbing elbows with all the Dems up at
the state house today wow WGBH uh the um public broadcasting uh radio and television here in
Massachusetts reported um did a preview on this event back on the 9th which would have been what
three days ago says on April 12 2006 colonial inspired drummers and a soundtrack of Yankee
Doodle were used to mark the watershed moment the signing of a law making Massachusetts the first
state in the country to require that its residents have health insurance or pay a tax penalty
the law here came to be known as Romney care after the republican governor whose
signature made it official wasn't long after that that Mitt Romney began to run away from
Romney care promise of near universal health coverage attracted one of the collaborators
of that piece of legislation U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy who had been pushing for decades to
expand health care access at the federal level socialized medicine that's what it was called
back then back you know when the truth was the truth back in the 60s and 70s and uh into the
80s we it was called socialized medicine during the bill signing at long last the impossible
dream of health care for all will finally become a reality in our commonwealth and quality care
will truly be available and affordable to each and every man woman and child in our state Kennedy
said at the bill signing Massachusetts still boasts the highest rate of health insurance
coverage in the nation at more than 97 according to GBH well yeah because it's mandatory you gotta
have it or you get fined you gotta have it you know I mean hell we can get compliance with anything
if the you know the state threatens to penalize you if you do not buy health insurance the law
also created the first state-based insurance marketplace the Massachusetts health connector
where people can shop for subsidized plans gee if that's not a recipe for fraud right
but while policymakers celebrate the accomplishments of widespread coverage
they continue to wrestle with that impossible dream of health care that's widely accessible
and affordable says public broadcasting Ashley Blackburn who's the interim executive director
of the Massachusetts advocacy group health care for all says and I quote but what we also know
after two decades of expanding this coverage is that having a health insurance card does not
actually mean you can afford the care you need when you need it these from from the
people that supported this that brought it all about that for GBH the head of the
advocacy group health care for all after two decades of expanding this coverage
having a health insurance card doesn't actually mean you can afford the care
that you need when you need it how many billions of dollars have gone down this rat hole
40 percent of Massachusetts residents reported issues paying for their health care in 2025
and health care expenses grew faster than wages and salaries from 2022 to 2024 according to the
state's center for health information and analysis Massachusetts has the highest family health
insurance premiums of any state in the country and more than one in eight residents are in debt
for medical bills thank you governor Romney thank you Democrats Blackburn said health care for all's
helpline gets daily calls from people who are worried about costs or can't even get in to see
a primary care doctor and I know this to be the truth friend of mine on mass health
senior has very serious health issues had not been or was not able to live on his own anymore
receiving state subsidized care in a facility hadn't seen a doctor in god knows how many years
in August was assigned a mass health doctor primary but had to wait September, October,
November, December, January, February six months for an appointment six months for his first
appointment with his primary care doctor costs aren't just a patient problem Beacon Hill budget
writers are trying to get a handle on unsustainable spending growth in mass health
the state's Medicaid program GBH reports small businesses also say they are struggling to keep
up with providing coverage John Hurst who's president of the retailers association of
Massachusetts told lawmakers just last week that its members in a March survey reported an average
annual premium increase of nearly 14 percent he says Beacon Hill hasn't delivered on promises
he heard in 2006 including that small businesses would be protected to some degree
from the steep costs providing insurance as Hurst sees it a true cost control effort from state
government would either let consumers pick what level of health coverage they want such as whether
they want brand name drugs over generic or emergency only coverage instead of comprehensive
or implement strict pricing rules for hospitals and drug companies until we do one or the other
either put in real regulation or real consumer choice and give them the marketplace power
of choosing what they really need what they want and what they can afford we're going to
continue to have this on affordable medical inflation that hits premium payers and taxpayers
alike Hurst said happy birthday Romneycare that's from the liberal NPR you know shortly after the
Romneycare came in to be 2006 right April 2006 February 2008 the Cato Institute you've heard of
the Cato Institute right he had a piece called lessons from the fall of Romneycare this was 2008
won't read you the whole report it's a bit it's pretty lengthy report you can find it
online it just says the Massachusetts plan was supposed to accomplish two things
achieve universal health insurance coverage while controlling costs as Romney wrote in the
Wall Street Journal every uninsured citizen in Massachusetts will soon have affordable health
insurance and the costs of health care will be reduced in reality the plan has done neither
and they that was recognized less than two years or just about two years no less than two years
after Romneycare took effect Obamacare is just as bad if not worse and by the way the Medicaid
of Medicaid and Medicare system the mass health system in Massachusetts is under investigation
for fraud over overspending waste fraud and abuse and they're celebrating this stuff it's so good
they had to bring out Sal DeMacy to help them celebrate it my goodness sorry quick break 508

with money talks money talks and WBSM brought to you by Whaler Inn and Suites Ryan's Sports Pub
and Billiards Morgan's Cantina and MJ's Pet Training Academy and us because we're pretty
swell people right all right uh so anyway you know speaking about corrupt Democrats we're just
talking about uh Sal DeMasi just a couple of moments ago being uh back in town and uh
being the uh the love child of all the um Democrats up on Beacon Hill today on um um
Romneycare um got a growing list of Democrats calling on fellow House Democrat rep Eric
Swalwell to resign some is uh gone as far some have gone as far as saying that they would vote
to expel Swalwell from Congress you know um Swalwell is of course a Democrat from California
he was um he was the front runner by a long shot for governor that ain't happening he's withdrawn
from the uh from the race accused of sexual misconduct if you haven't heard you know it is
one of the biggest mouths about Epstein and you know everything else and here he is apparently
for a long long time um accused anyway of sexually molesting women including some of his staffers
uh Representatives Ro Khanna of California and uh Eugenia Vindman of Virginia have said Swalwell
should resign from office uh Representative Jay Powell of Washington and Jared Huffman of
California and Teresa Ledger Fernandez of New Mexico have indicated that Swalwell should resign
but if he does not they would vote to kick him out of Congress now they may get the chance because
apparently there are four uh potential expulsion votes scheduled for this week uh Swalwell and um
Tony Gonzalez who is a um a Republican from Texas who has admitted to having an affair with a staff
member who later died by setting herself on fire has decided not to seek re-election
he may be expelled as well so there's uh two of them um also um Sheila Sher-Phyllis McCormick
who's a Democrat from Florida and uh Cory Mills who's a Republican from Florida could also become
a potential targets of expulsion resolutions um McCormick is facing more than five decades in
prison after allegedly funneling more than five million dollars in disaster relief money to her
congressional campaign and her personal lifestyle and Mills a former army combat veteran has faced
a myriad of controversies including allegedly misrepresenting his military service domestic
violence and threatening to release sexually explicit photos of a former girlfriend and yada
yada yada on and on it goes so there could be four expulsion votes this week in the House of
Representatives. 508-996-0500 is the number you're next on WBSM thanks for hanging on. Hey Barry how
are you? Good how are you? Hanging in there you know I'm trying to pay off my taxes now I was told
by Councilor Pereira my tax is going to go up so my gas and electric and my property taxes my
water and sewer and pretty soon we're going to be homeless and who's going to support us?
Wow yeah I'm saying sorry to hear you having a rough time yeah yeah well you know you were
talking about the governors right today's the big it's the big party of the 20th anniversary of uh
Romneycare yeah you know where else is commonalities here? Mitt Romney an outsider came
from Salt Lake City, Utah. Maura Healy born in Maryland but her family moved to New Hampshire
so she was living more in New Hampshire but she's an outsider. Deval Patrick you're none of the
outsider came from Chicago, Illinois. Charlie Baker is from New York and then he ran for governor
guess what else they have in common? I don't know about where Mitt Romney went to college but
uh Healy uh Deval Patrick and uh Charlie Big they all went to Harvard.
You see the connection here? Well yeah there are they they all run in the same group no
question about it yeah and they're all the same uh liberal progressive um ideology yeah absolutely
and and Mitt Romney is no Mitt Romney like to parade himself around as a conservative he's
not a conservative he's a no he's a rhino yeah he's a rhino maverick you know like John McCain
and in that group yeah so he he did his thing and then he got on his plane and got out of here
went back to Salt Lake City, Utah and then and then you know then Pierre Dialecto remember
he was going under the pseudonym uh pat himself on the back until he got caught he was
patting himself bragging about how such a great job Mitt Romney was doing and then he was
unmasked by the media using a pseudonym but uh you know I remember remember William F Buckley
and he said it best he said he'd rather go on the yellow pages close his eyes and run his finger
through the names in the telephone book and pick that person to run for for a public office than
a graduate from Harvard University. Look look how that's done for us and we got also uh Mayor
Mitchell went to Harvard and he look at where we're at 18 million dollar in the hole. You don't
like Harvard do you? Well I don't like uh those that come out of the the ideology it's been
brainwashed yeah and on they go in I'm not saying everybody goes to Harvard is is is a leftist.
You know the other thing here talk about um when you're talking about these all of these people
they're all about the same age uh or within you know they come from a generation um of liberal
Democrats and um you know and again Charlie Baker and Mitt Romney in my view may as well have been
Democrats because Charlie Baker signing the transgender bathroom bill into law here in
Massachusetts at 10 o'clock on a Friday night so you you may as well just toss him right into that
and oh yeah you know not to mention the shutdown yeah under COVID yeah exactly we were shut down
under martial law under Charlie Baker yeah you're absolutely you're absolutely right
hey it's it's absolutely incredible we have outsiders running the state into the ground
not to mention Liz Warren too from Oklahoma well Karen Spilka Karen Spilka is from New York she's
not from Massachusetts and yeah and then Iona Presley too from Chicago Illinois yeah she went
to BU but you know that Michelle Wu is from Chicago Michelle Wu is from Chicago who is
Michelle Wu oh that's right absolutely and guess where she went to school she went to Harvard
you see what's wrong with this absolutely yeah it's the training academy right
yeah it's a training it's the hippies you know back in the day the hippies
they went into university made big bucks brainwashing people on how socialism and
communism is the is better than all the other forms of government and look where we are now
every country that's had socialism communism people were in abject poverty they lost it all
they had no problem no no money no property no possessions everything was taken away but
they're telling all the youth this is the best thing for you and look where we are now
good call my friend I appreciate it good to hear from you 508-996-0500 is the number you're next
then WBSM thanks for hanging on so since Trump's been in office from his self-proposed 25 million
illegal aliens in the country hey good afternoon we've deported can you say good afternoon first
before you start on your your Trump derangement syndrome rant okay good afternoon thank you I
couldn't hear from you my friend you did you have a good weekend I did good okay now that we got that
out of the way yeah go ahead now you can start on your Trump derangement rant go ahead so Trump
said we had 20 uh 25 million illegal aliens in the country uh so far he's deported 2.5 million
that's including self-deported and regular deported so that's 10 percent of his uh illegal
aliens that he did a great job getting out of the country uh the the deficit is trillions of
dollars more the cost of oil has doubled he said that he wasn't going to have any boots
oh the cost the cost of oil the cost of oil is temp is temporary at this point and you know that
you understand that as soon as the shooting stops the the price of oil is going to like collapse
and gasoline prices will collapse as well yeah yeah his presidency is temporary as well but
we're talking about right now right barry so no new boots on the ground that's you know obviously
not happening but the best thing in my opinion that's happened since his presidency is that he
got pro-christian barry richards to tell the pope to shut up i've always told the pope to shut up
i'm not a christian that is great i'm not a catholic you're not then why do you go how do
i'm not a catholic so no wait a minute so you're twisting something here i'm not a catholic but
you know what even if i was or even if i were a catholic i would still tell the pope to shut up
look if you want to if you want to sit there in in papal city and you want to criticize what we
do here in the united states well then you're open to pushback so i mean you can't you can't
have it both ways you can't sit up there on your throne and criticize everybody else and and then
it's a you know some kind of a big issue if we criticize you back he's criticizing a guy who
declared an illegal war on a country so yeah there's no illegal war in the country and you
know that you're not stupid you know that there's no illegal war in a country that's a democrat
talking point that you picked up from chuck schumer or maybe eric swalwell or one of those people
there's no illegal war nobody has declared an illegal war except democrats that's the only
people that have been declared and you know what the same democrats it's funny i went through uh
youtube uh over the weekend and found i don't know how many clips of hillary clinton your babe
talking about how she was going to invade iran if she was elected donald trump won't do it but
i will do it i'll have you know so i mean come on but donald trump said that he wouldn't do it
and he did no he didn't say that donald trump never said that donald trump said and he said
it since the 1980s that and he's been consistent about it iran cannot have a nuclear weapon he's the
only one that's been consistent because you know the democrats said it and now all of a sudden
trump did something about it and now they're all like you oh illegal war illegal war you know trump
honors and remembers the 241 marines that died in 1982 in beirut funded by iran he remembers the
attack on the kobar towers in the in 1996 in which 19 american service people were killed
um do you remember that one that was funded by hezbollah uh that was that was carried out by
hezbollah that was good now back in the days you know the and boy i'll tell you what i've thrown
the the king of the republicans under the bus because you know ronald reagan should have stopped
this in 1982 when it started um and he didn't and he didn't and as a result of that this continued
on for 47 years so the democrats used to have the balls hillary clinton had more balls than
probably most democrats and she said that if she's elected president she's going to invade iran
so now trump invade invades iran stops the nuclear program stops the missile build-up
and and he's committing an illegal war what do you watch tucker carlson or something i i don't
because the media and the democrats are the only ones saying this is an illegal war i
i heard the the u.n uh the head of the u.n the other day praising trump for finally doing this
hey barry no i'm not i didn't mean that i'm sorry i misspoke i didn't mean the u.n and
i meant the uh um the uh the head of nato why why is it that america has to be the one to damn good
question damn good question and we should be asking that because as soon as this is over
we're going to sit down and we're going to re-evaluate our relationship with nato
and we're going to get out of nato i hope we do anyway and we're going to we're going to align
with with people whose values are are closer to us than the folks in uh in in uh in europe
like who well we're gonna well i i can't say i'm not the president of the united states but
what's that nobody who agrees with this nobody barry nobody that agrees with what
with the war in iran i do i agree with it and the majority of the american people agree with it and
you know what the canadians agree with it and they just don't have the balls to do anything
about it starmer agrees with it because he knows that he and his people and london are uh were
targets um you know there's a lot of folks that agree with it that just don't have the guts to
get involved and in the very first hour if you were listening steve very succinctly put it that
the uh the the mayors and the and the uh premiers the not the premiers but the um prime ministers in
european countries are just afraid because their countries have been taken over by muslims and
they're afraid of reprisals at home see the problem is is that once muslims come into the
country they have civilians of that country just like our country so you got to kick them the hell
out just like egypt did you know if they become citizens why would we kick citizens out barry
because if citizens come in they happen to be muslim guess what that's that's not a problem
in and of itself that's not a problem only people like you think it's a problem only people like me
i know i'm horrible ain't i and i even i even criticized the pope oh my god i'm damned for
all tarnation thank you my friend 508 996 996 0500 we're coming right back and we're back in
the miller's yard it's springtime and their true green lawn is thriving their lawn started looking
like a golf course and pj to a golfer started showing up like this pro who's never seen spring
grass this perfect outside of course has to clear the patio furniture and the sandbox
ah perfectly struck true green the easiest way to get a golf course quality lawn don't wait sign up
now at truegreen.com exclusion supply see truegreen.com for details back to barry richard on
wbsm call 508 996 0500 look around you look up here
take time to make time make time to be there all right 147 on a monday afternoon 508 996 0500 i
don't understand how people like the last call or anybody in in general for that matter um can be
upset in ending a war that's been going on for 47 years i mean this is iran 52 american hostages
and held them for 52 years 50 uh for uh 44 weeks remember that for 44 days i'm sorry 52 hostages
for 40 444 days torturing them depriving them of food um keeping them in in in uh dark rooms
and so on and so forth 52 americans for 444 days they slaughtered 241 u.s marines at a barracks
in beirut they blew up the they gave hezbollah the money to blow up the kobar towers in saudi
arabia 96 killing 19 how many other terrorist attacks were there uh you know the coal remember
i remember the incoming missiles at u.s bases in iraq and other places and remember the american
aid workers they were kidnapped young lady i can't recall her name now oh my god i can't
recall her name um i want to say it was kayla i can't i may be wrong though but uh kidnapped and
held and murdered so when after 47 years you know uh we go in and we say look um you're going to get
rid of those nuclear capabilities that you have and what you're going to stop your missile program
that you're threatening uh folks around the globe with that somehow another is considered illegal
why would you why would you side with and defend and be sympathetic to those monsters those animals
why would you it just it makes me sick to think that people could actually feel that way but
it happens 508-996-0500 you're next in wbsm good afternoon hey hey barry you have mentioned eric
starwell yeah you know to to me he's a flying ball i mean i have nothing but dislike for the
guy you know what i mean and um but you know my my point is this uh this hashtag movement uh believe
me uh you have to believe the woman and the man has no voice here and you know you gotta be careful
with that because look at what happened to judge kevin alt yeah uh now now they're doing it to uh
siva cesar chavez this guy was a hero in the hispanic community when he used to say he said
boy that yes you can and now an accusation now they're stripping him from high school
but we're talking about we're talking about decades of allegations against swalwell that
were swept under the rug by the politicians in the house the democrats nancy pelosi they all knew
about these allegations for years and years and years um multiple women we know of at least five
cases now um we know that that he had uh you know fang fang that that was all public there are files
on it um the criminal charge is now being investigated in new york city about another
abuse case uh women are pouring out this is not just a woman like with uh cavanaugh who says well
gee uh this guy uh forced himself on me i don't remember when and i can't remember where and i
don't remember exactly how i mean he's a woman into coming forward with serious allegations and
he has even said himself i'm pulling out of the race i apologize to my friends and family for bad
decisions that i made so i mean you know at that point i think um yeah maybe it's it's time for him
to go and uh in and plan his defense no i i i agree with you but i'm just i'm just trying to
make the point how quickly people are willing to condemn the man if you do you remember the
the the duke lacrosse players that is that were accused of rape yep i mean they destroy those
kids they threw them out of college yeah but i i don't think i gotta hold you for the news here
but i don't think we can compare the duke lacrosse kids to eric swalwell i mean i think where i think
that's a little bit of a stretch i understand what you're saying and i remember uh cavanaugh
very well and what he went through and and others that have been donald trump and others that have
been accused with no evidence and um but this is this is a little bit different we got a bunch of
women now that have come out uh so these are serious enough charges that need to be investigated
i gotta hold you though i gotta get the break and we're coming back after this state in your
