I recently was hired by a company in the UK to produce two videos in Boston and Rhode Island. The production team that joined me during my trip was Zach (videographer) and Graeme (creative director) who are from London.
During those six days I learned a lot of London Slang so I decided to make a video about it. Here are the London Slang words and their meanings.
1. Peak - There’s a tube strike again this weekend, it’s so peak. 2. Bossman - Four thigh pieces bossman. How’s business? 3. Lock Arff - Road get lock arff. 4. Mandem - The tandem are rolling out tonight. 5. Madting - The finale of Breaking Bad was madting. 6. Roadman - Does he think he’s a roadmap or something? 7. What am I meant to say?
different than most places in the States. It's a whole different world from
Great Britain and I know you guys are telling me that in London now they have
all these different words that we're using so I have a list so I'm gonna go
through it maybe and you tell me what you think, how you use it. So let's go
first with peak. Peak. Peak. How do you use peak?
Something like you've peaked too much. So if someone's too drunk you're like oh he's
peaked. Okay so I get it. Mate you've peaked. It's nice. Yeah? Yeah.
You're peaking. You're peaking. Okay. No we don't say that but yeah.
You peaked. Yeah. The way they're using it is like four thigh pieces boss man.
How's business? So like boss man just means like what's up boss? Oh yeah yeah. No we don't say boss man.
We say boss. Alright boss? Alright boss. Cheers boss. How you doing boss?
So there's more boss. Yeah. The next one's called lock off. Lock off.
Lock off. So how do you? Mate skip. I've no idea. Skip. No idea. Skip lock off.
Okay next one. Man dem. Mad ting. Man dem. Man dem. Man dem.
Ropey. Mad dem. Ropey? What does it mean man? Let me read it.
The madness over. So what is it? What is it?
No you don't know? So if you're going out and you're like oh the mad dem are
rolling out tonight it means the dodgy guys. You don't want to hang out with them.
Dodgy. Yeah. Bit dodgy. That's another English word. Dodgy. Dodgy.
Do you know that? No we don't use dodgy. I just heard it so much. It's dodgy.
Alright the next one's mad ting. Mad ting. It's a mad ting man.
Mad ting. So if you're just something crazy so it's a mad thing. It's a mad ting.
Mad ting. It's a mad ting. Mad ting. I knew that. Yep. So what is a road man?
A road man is someone who jacks you. It's more of a road man. Maintains the traffic.
Starts to do the roads. Maintain the roads. It's more of a. It's like I think. It's like
you know you guys have ice road truckers. Yep. It's more like that but British style.
So a road man is somebody who like drives trucks. Yeah yeah. On the road.
Okay what about pang? Pang. Not peg. What? Pang. Pang. Pang.
What is pang? It's like. How can I say it? So someone walks by and they're looking good.
Good cheese. You know. They're pang cheese. You're looking pang. Looking good cheese.
So yeah pang is more of. This is what I think. I think it's taking over the word sick.
Okay. So instead of sick it's pang. I gotta do another one. Blower. Blower.
What the f*** is blower? Blower.
Depends. No no no. It says your mom's on the blower.
Oh your mom's on the blower. Your mom's on the phone. Oh because it's blowing up. That's what
it is. Yeah. Because it keeps saying car so it's called blower. No yeah. I should have known that.
I did as well. Lit. The party's lit. It's going off. Pretty much. It's like a really good party.
It's lit. It's like awesome. Awesome. Say again. Dench. Dench. Dench is from a grime term.
Oh no it's like yeah there's kids from the streets. He's dench. He's part of us now.
Dench. He's dench. I would never understand that. Anything else you want to add? I don't know.
What do you want me to say? I can say. Just tell us. Well how would you speak with your friends like
in slang? Hello. How are you? I'm good thanks. Good day. Crumpets and tea. Good day.
Top of the morning for you. I'm Kit Harington. I'm Jon Snow now. I'm the king of the north. Jon Snow.
Do you know what happened with the dragons? Hey Carlos. Carlos. Did you hear what happened?
Yeah you saw what happened with the wall. King of the north. So he hasn't seen Game of Thrones
the ending but we're going to tell him right now. No. Yes. The wall is second down.
Don't ruin it for everybody. Khaleesi over Emilia. Emilia change your name.
Khaleesi. Like seriously? Seriously and go blonde. Yeah she'd be so hot blonde.
I'll just spill your drink. I'm sorry. My wife can murder me. I don't have a wife.
