Noryangjin Fish Market is PACKED with the BEST Seafood in Seoul and this was probably the BIGGEST seafood meal we have ever had including a MASSIVE Tiger Prawn, Scallops and more!
What's up and welcome, we're Luke and Sabrina with ChopsterTravel.com.
And today we are at the largest fish market in Seoul, South Korea, Noryangjin.
Let's go.
So as I said, this is the largest fish market here in Seoul, South Korea.
And today we picked out a few things we want to try, including Korean sashimi, known as
So I think we found a spot that we can try the live octopus sanakji, so we're gonna try
to order one.
Okay, I think this is a good spot.
It's going to be my first time trying this.
Oh, just, uh, just want to get one, right?
Just one.
Oh, that's a big one.
Big, uh.
Two small ones?
Okay.
Okay, we just ordered up our sanakji live octopus and we're getting some gochujang,
red pepper, Korean red pepper sauce.
Uh, kamsahamnida.
Alright, let's uh, let's try this out.
Okay, we've ordered up the sanakji, the live octopus, and it is just wriggling away and
those little suckers are really, really sticky.
And she's also giving it to us with some gochujang sauce.
So this is going to be my first time trying this ever.
I'm going to smother that in some of the red pepper sauce and try it out.
Actually, maybe I better get a piece that's moving.
Like this piece.
Oh yeah, look at that.
Oh!
It's so sticky.
Look at that.
Alright, let's try it.
Yeah, it's pretty good actually.
It doesn't have much of a flavor.
Very, very faint seafood flavor.
And it has a kind of like firm, rubbery texture.
And then dipped in that red pepper sauce, it's not actually very spicy.
A little bit sweet.
Mmm, I like it.
The texture is really nice actually.
But, it's definitely a mind over matter kind of food.
Because it is still squirming like crazy.
And those suction cups are just sticking to each other.
Mmm.
It's pretty good.
Okay, let's try this baby octopus out.
That's a good texture.
Tastes really fresh.
Really fresh.
Okay, so that baby octopus was really good.
And now we are on the hunt for a good deal on some hoei, which is Korean sashimi.
Okay, so I think we found a spot to get some hoei.
And we're going to order a halibut, which is kind of like a flat fish.
So I think this looks like a good spot here.
And this is the fish that we want right here.
So much, so much.
The fish that we're going to get right here.
This is a halibut, flat fish.
Okay, so she just finished slicing up our halibut, hoei, raw fish.
And it looks really good.
A little pricey.
It was 30 US dollars, 30,000 won.
So, but it looks really good.
I guess we're going to have to find somewhere to sit down and eat this.
But, yeah, let's look around.
So we've got our big plate of hoei here, all the sliced up raw fish.
And she also actually gave us the rest of the fish.
Everything that wasn't cut into hoei.
So that's in here.
And we will take that upstairs later to hopefully make into a nice spicy soup.
So let's open this up and try it out.
Okay, so I'm going to open this up and pull a piece out.
She actually didn't give us any chopsticks.
So I'm just going to have to use my hand.
But, oh man, that looks really good.
Let's grab this piece right here.
And she served it with the gochujang, Korean red pepper sauce.
So get a little bit of that.
Oh, yeah.
Let's try that.
That is awesome.
Extremely, like, firm.
Because in Korea, they prefer to eat their raw fish fresh.
Like, kill the fish and then eat it.
In Japan, they like to age the meat a little bit.
And it gives it a nice, like, firm texture this way.
Oh, man, that's really good.
Okay, so we're actually just sitting outside the market right now,
which isn't the nicest place, but we just wanted to have a quick taste
before we went inside the restaurant.
So let's try this piece here.
Okay, we're ready.
Mmm.
That's really fresh.
Really good.
So we've had a couple of snacks,
and now we're actually going to buy some seafood
to take to one of the restaurants.
So there's many restaurants here, and you can buy the seafood
and then take it upstairs and pay a little bit extra,
and they will cook it for you.
So I think we're going to get some shellfish now.
How about one of these massive tiger prawns here?
Check that out.
Huge.
It's almost like the size of a lobster.
This?
Yeah.
How much?
I'm going to hopefully do a little bit of bargaining
because I expect this is going to be pretty expensive, actually.
Okay.
And it's...
How do you mean?
Ordered up some scallops and a massive tiger prawn.
Three scallops and a tiger prawn.
We're going to see what the price is.
For three scallops and a massive tiger prawn.
Restaurant?
Restaurant.
So we're inside the restaurant on the outskirts of the market now,
and we just ordered up a Korean seafood feast.
So in the back here, she has our scallops
and our giant tiger prawn cooking.
We have our hoi here, and we're just waiting for her to bring it out.
We're really excited.
Okay, all of our food has arrived.
We have a Korean seafood feast here,
and I'm going to walk you through some of the dishes we ordered.
So the first one is this boiling away,
this red-hot looking soup,
and that is maeuntang, they called it.
And it is basically just everything that was left from that halibut
that she cut up into hoi
and thrown into a soup mixed with lots of veggies,
kimchi, I'm sure, lots of different things.
Then over here, we have our massive tiger prawn barbecued.
And just check that out.
That is so meaty.
Oh, man.
This just all smells so good.
And then, of course, we've got our hoi that we already sampled.
And then over here, we have scallops, a ton of scallops.
We've got four of them, and those are looking good, too.
We got them barbecued.
It looks like some butter and some...
Oh, man, I'm not even sure.
We're going to have to taste it.
And then, of course, all the complimentary side dishes,
the kimchi, we've got some leaves, perilla leaves,
and lettuce for wraps,
different sauces, some chilis,
all kinds of things.
So let's dig into this.
So it's a hard decision to pick what I want to eat first,
but I think I'm going to go for one of the scallops over here.
And this is looking like a juicy guy.
Oh, man.
So I think I'm just going to one bite this, no sauce or anything.
Let's try that out just by itself.
Oh, yeah.
It's a little bit of seafood flavor,
a little bit salty from the butter,
and just natural seafood-y goodness.
Oh, man.
We are going in for a piece of the giant prawn now.
All right, I'm going to dip it in some sauce over here.
Here we go.
This has a lot of sesame oil in it.
This is probably the biggest prawn we've ever seen in our lives.
That was a really meaty bite.
Really good.
No Korean seafood feast is complete without some soju.
So we're going to have some.
Cheers.
Time to try this tiger prawn,
barbecued massive tiger prawn.
Big chunk of meat here.
Oh, man, that is so meaty.
I'm going to dip this in this sauce.
Looks like a ton of garlic,
some gochujang,
green peppers,
and tons of sesame oil.
Let's try that.
With that sesame oil,
it's almost like a little bit nutty.
And that is such a meaty prawn.
Wow.
It's almost like a lobster, really.
Let's chase that with a piece of kimchi.
Can't get enough of the kimchi here in Seoul.
Okay, so I'm going to try this maeuntang,
which is the rest of the halibut fish that we ordered
in a red spicy broth
with tons of vegetables on top.
So let's try to get that.
It's not very easy.
There's a ton of veggies,
a little bit of broth,
and oh, there's also a ton of,
check that out,
a ton of bean sprouts in there as well.
And you can see the fish underneath there.
There, I got a big piece of the fish.
And we'll try that.
It looks like it's going to be hot.
Yeah.
A little bit spicy.
Definitely a strong, like, red pepper flavor.
And it's got a little bit of a fishy flavor
from the seafood in there.
And let's try a piece of that fish too.
Oh, man.
So soft.
Ridiculously soft.
To completely absorb that Korean red broth.
Oh, man.
So I'm actually going to make a wrap here.
First, I need a piece of lettuce.
Then I'm going to go in for a piece of the sashimi,
or should I say hoi.
Dip it in a little soy sauce.
Then I'm going to add garlic
for good luck.
And then a piece of kimchi.
Oh, that's a big one.
Maybe a smaller piece.
Then what you got to do is wrap it up
and you got to take it as a one bite.
So here we go.
So much flavor.
So fresh.
Okay, you guys got to check this out.
This is ridiculous.
I just removed all the meat from that tiger prawn.
That is just straight meat.
Look at that.
That's pure meat.
It's like a hot dog.
Okay, I'm going to try it.
Oh, such a firm texture.
Very subtle seafood flavor.
And naturally buttery.
Oh man, that is delicious.
Okay, just finished off with our
massive Korean seafood feast
and our tour of the Noryangjin Fish Market
here in Seoul.
Such a good time and so much good food.
And we did mention earlier,
but I just want to note again,
there is a new location,
which is right here.
And the workers in the old location
have been kind of reluctant
to move to the new location.
So we aren't going to visit that today,
but maybe you can
if you have the time when you visit.
So I hope you enjoyed this video.
If you did, make sure to give it a thumbs up.
