Hey guys, welcome back to the channel.
This is MFJJ.
We are building a bow today for Bob Legasa.
We call him legendary.
The legend.
You know the guy who wears the Borat swimsuit at Total Archery Challenge?
We're going to build him a bow today.
It's going to be a Matthews and we're going to be biased.
But I'm going to dig in on Josh and get some tips out of him and we're going to get to
know Bob a little bit more.
Bob's the greatest.
Join us.
All right.
Let's go through what Bob picked out.
You picked this out, right?
I did.
Yeah.
Low Pro Detach.
Yes.
Ooh.
XO.
Engage Leg Limbs.
We're using his old sight, but Ridgelock.
Ridgelock and your old sight now.
This is for 3D shooting.
Yeah.
I like to use a single pin, just dialing and getting exact.
Integrated MX2.
I did switch to this and I am not looking back.
Okay.
Here's the baby.
What color did you order?
Emery.
So these are hard to come by.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Like Josh is the only shop I know of that-
I was amazed at what he has hanging in that wall.
So you went with 29 and a half, huh?
No, that's-
No, 33.
That should be 33.
That's 29 and a half, yo.
What the frick?
I grabbed it all.
I'll be right back.
He had one job.
One J-O-B.
We are going, are you going to Big Sky with us?
Yes, I am.
Okay.
Are you going to tell lots of jokes?
I will.
Are you going to wear the Borat swimsuit at some point?
I don't know about the Borat.
I got to come up with something new.
Something new and fresh?
Yeah.
Good.
That'd be awesome.
You realize we're shooting against, not with, Bodie Turner and Joel Turner.
And we don't like those guys, man, honestly.
Like Joel thinks he knows everything.
Bodie acts like he's all nice, but he's just too-
My goal is to shoot one target better than Bodie.
Like just one out of 40 or whatever it's going to be.
So I can work distraction for you.
See, and that's what I want to bring up is like, I don't think he's ever heard the kind
of stuff that we can talk about.
Look out, Bodie Turner.
We're coming for you.
Hey, he's back.
There's a 33.
Wow.
You had-
There's the mods.
You had one job.
I don't know how to do this and I want to advertise this.
All I had to do, and I wanted to put different serving on anyways, because I wanted to run
halos and my IP4s are just a little, or the halos are just too tight.
Well, I used the halos for about two weeks and it just destroyed my serving.
So all I really needed to do was just get a thinner serving and I've never done serving.
Yeah.
For a standard knock fit, these are fine.
But for like actual lighted knocks that run a little smaller, you have to resurface.
So when I get my next 29 and a half, I order one as a backup bow when I'm making my primary,
I'm going to have Josh, the first thing I'm going to do is redo the center serving.
Yeah.
And it'll make a good video too, because I'm doing one as well, talking about knock fit
and how it should fit.
Fitament.
And so yeah, fitament.
I love saying that word.
That's what I, because I really want to run halos or halos.
This is what a good fit is.
This is what a good fit is not.
Yeah.
You should be able to take a loose knock and move it without it moving your strength.
So if you touch your knock and like your peeps starting to move a little bit when you do
it, that's too tight here.
And you watch that.
See how it's moving?
Yeah.
It's too tight.
Okay.
Right.
It moves, but not enough.
Like it should, this should free float.
So like...
It chewed my serving up like that in just a couple of weeks.
This.
Oh.
So it's still moving a little bit, but not nearly as much.
This is still a little tight.
So this should really be smaller.
We're going to put a new serving on here, get it down a little bit thinner.
Just looking at some of the different knocks that we had, especially with the lighted knocks,
a little bit too tight.
And as Dan was saying, he went through a serving pretty quick when he switched to a different
knock.
Yeah.
So IP fours and fives from 80 are my favorite.
They are a little tight, like Josh said, but fine.
And that's what I like.
And then when I ran the halos, it literally was just a couple of weeks and I started getting
separation and then that's all she wrote.
So that's why I switched out my string.
My string's great.
I just, I probably need to reserve it and I don't know how to do that by hand.
I've seen Josh do it on the machine and I know why he wants to use the machine.
He's literally going to go, he'll go like a, like you're tying in a peep, he'll go around
backside and then mix that sound and done.
It's pretty cool.
What sounds up.
So at some point, and I don't want to be rude to the people who own this company, your servings
too big.
Like it's too big for almost every size of knock that fits on there.
Whatever size of diameter you're using here, drop a size, please.
Pretty please.
That's all I'm saying.
Like you're thinking like 113 to 111, they're using 21 or 25 on here personally.
And I'm going to use 18 and because you're using a lot of knocks, I'm not going to put
a tail under it.
Okay.
Because if you do it really tight with no tail, yeah.
So it's just the diameter of the material.
I just got to find the right spool here.
Give these guys the numbers.
If you are, it's probably like, well, you're like 109 to 113.
I mean, if I'm measuring my own, which I don't know, never, but I like a knock.
The knock is cool.
Yeah.
So one nine to one 10 is real common.
I'm moving into position to learn.
That's all.
You see it there?
I'm sorry.
I'm going to block his view.
Can you see that?
Yes.
Yep.
Okay.
So that's where we started from.
So I'm going to simply go over the top of it.
How many times?
Four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10.
That's pro.
And if you have the right equipment, it's that fast to do a center serving and then
you break it.
You got to redo it.
That's right.
Take two.
What did you just say?
I think this is a super overlooked step is thinking about knock fit a minute.
Nick Fisher really opened my eyes up to it and uh, and then Josh kind of nonchalantly
came in here one day and showed me all this and I was like, Oh wow.
So the details matter and uh, it's pretty cool watching Josh do this right now.
So he's getting it all set up and he's actually feeling tension too on this thing and if you
guys can see at home, look at the color change is what Josh said.
Yeah.
When this machine starts lighter, darker, and once it starts rolling here, it looks
basically black.
Yeah.
But it's not black here.
If you get it tight, it'll turn black.
Time's turn around that track.
I stopped scrolling.
There you go.
That's what you want.
Is that, is that perfect right there?
Or is that too loose?
I got it.
Oh yeah.
With the hip.
No, that's ideal.
Cause you're going to have a soft knot above it and below it and it's not like you can
really turn the knock left and right.
So if you grab it and then you can like do this with it, which Justin would argue he
even likes it like that.
He wants there to be as little resistance as possible.
We kind of go back and forth on that, but that is like a perfect not fit for your larger
knock cause that they are going to be different.
And then you put this on here and it still doesn't move the string when you move it back
and forth because halos are small.
If you were just going to run a halo, I'd even go smaller.
Okay.
Yeah.
But if you're not, if you're going to switch back and forth, that's perfect.
And listen to the big fricking battery.
Carry this bad boy.
What's his holding weight?
It's 10 pounds.
Right now it's peaking at like 59 and a half.
So I have to crank it back up.
Yeah.
Let me go with half right now.
Okay.
I have a shot.
Since it's in here.
That's a good idea.
Starting light.
Check the timing.
Yeah.
Definitely feel it.
Look at how perfect that timing is.
Perfecto.
Right on.
Yeah.
Like you could put a peep on it.
It's perfect.
Must be nice.
All right.
So we need to bring the cams towards the rest or towards the riser with this.
So we're going to decide which one of these cams we're going to move and here's how we're
going to decide.
Run these all the way back to the stops and then see which one of these cams is leaning
more.
And we'll move that one.
What you want is these pointed at each other, like as close to each other as possible.
This is a spot hog laser tool.
This tells you what your cams pointed at the other direction.
All right.
Now I'm on the rubber right now.
So I got to come off it just a little bit.
Now you see it's lining up there.
So this one's actually pretty darn close.
So I check the other side and that one's actually pretty close.
So it's not going to matter which one we move because they're basically the same.
We're just going to have to move one a little bit.
And because these rests are Matthews and they're four of these bows, the rest is already sitting
left to right where you want it.
So you kind of don't want to monkey with it that much.
So if you can avoid moving the rest and move your top hats instead, you're probably better
off and that's enough of a tear.
You're probably going to need to move the top hat.
If you had a tear that's from knock to a point, maybe that much, you can move that
with your rest.
Anything beyond that, you probably need to move the top hat.
So what are you doing?
Removing the top hat from the limb assembly, pocket assembly, and then comparing which
one's which.
Now if you see, there's one line and two line on those and they're all the way away from
the spacer, which means they're the closest to the middle, right?
And then a single line and a double line always go to each other.
So if you lay these down like this, they look the same.
They're a little hard to see because it's all black and it's just cut, but that's how
they identify it.
So we're going to put this one over here and this one over there, and that means we move
20 thousandths this direction with the cam, because there are 20 thousandths minimums.
And then there's three different sizes of these.
And by going from one side to another with each one, rotating them, you can actually
move the cam six different positions.
I want you to know.
Wow.
Just like that.
Pull it.
Yeah, exactly.
Lovely.
Perfect.
Some minor adjustments on my side because we pulled this off my old bow.
It's a single pin slider that I like to use for a 3D shoot.
So I'm going to use this bow for both 3D and elk hunting this year.
Typically I have one bow for each, but this year since I'm getting this so late in the
season or, you know, the start of summer, I want to get dialed and have this ready for
elk season.
I'm liking it so far.
It's quiet.
Yeah.
Quiet.
Guys, I hope you enjoyed that episode.
It's good to see Bob.
He's going to be running for president in 2024, and you're going to see more of him
at TAC.
One of my favorite dudes, Josh, always dropping that knowledge.
I love the guy, and I think he's a wizard, and hopefully you learn more.
We appreciate support.
Smash that sub.
We'll bring you more content.
Separation's in the preparation.
We'll catch you on the next one.
