PRO Sommelier Reviews TRADER JOE’S Cheapest Wines!!
Welcome back, YouTube.
This is Andrew, the wine wizard with whiskey.
Today, we're gonna be tasting seven different wines
from Trader Joe's and giving them thumbs up and thumbs down.
We know that they can make excellent tica masala,
but can they make a good bottle of wine?
We're getting into it.
Esmeral, vino verde, white wine from Portugal.
This bottle comes at you for $4.99.
That's a rare feat to find a bottle of wine.
This day and age, I feel like an old man saying that.
Back in my day.
I open it, it has some spritzy spritz.
Probably gonna be really refreshing.
Very bright, very kind of savory.
Definitely a lot of spritz.
It tastes almost like a semi-sparkling wine.
As soon as it hit my palate, it went.
I didn't get a ton of flavor, just a lot of gushing CO2.
It's fun, it's light-hearted.
I think you could probably crush this on the beach, maybe.
Wow, I'm a fan.
For $4.99, it's actually not super sweet.
It's refreshing.
I'm a fan.
This is the second wine.
Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, $5.99.
Man, that's a banger of a price.
This smells like pog juice,
if you guys have ever had pog juice.
What is that, passion fruit, orange, and guava.
There's some nice, subtle, kind of herbal, grassy hints, too.
I don't get the cat piss that I did
with the normal New Zealand sauvy bees.
I wish you guys could smell this.
I wish there was smell-o-vision.
That should be a thing.
Elon, work on it.
That is a super solid Sauvignon Blanc for $5.99.
That's awesome.
I would buy that in a heartbeat for $5.99.
Stock up, buy a case.
We're off to a good start here, Trader Joe's.
That's a thumbs up.
Opaline Pinot Noir, Brut Rose.
This is a product of France.
What you look for in a champagne or sparkling wine,
you want a duck fart.
Smells a little sulfur-y.
There's a little, like, roadside tar action.
It's not an endearing quality.
I'm gonna say no.
It's like a pretty package.
They should've focused on what was inside
the beautiful packaging.
It's rough.
Friends, this is $9.99.
That's a thumbs down for me.
We've got Corvallia Zinfandel.
This comes in at $9.99.
Smells pretty lush.
It's definitely on the riper, richer side.
It's not sweet.
That's a solid, respectable little Zinfandel.
It's just kind of a juicy, jammy style of wine,
so I recommend giving it a try.
So we are on to number five.
This is a Cabernet Syrah Blend, 2024 Vintage, $5.99.
It's a blend, 50% Syrah, 50% Cabernet.
You get some of the kind of, like,
funky, earthy, savoriness of the Syrah.
A little bit of the dark fruits from the Cab.
Some plum and cassis, bit of drizzle of dark chocolate.
That's nice.
It's fun.
It's not, like, serious.
Super juicy on the palate.
$5.99.
♪ Maison Marmalade ♪
It just sounds sexy.
It looks sexy, and it tastes pretty good.
For $5.99, grab a case.
Thumbs up.
Diamond Reserve, Rutherford.
That is a premier growing region in Napa.
$19.99 for a Rutherford Napa Valley Cab.
Napa fruit is absorbently expensive.
It has such a recognition of that region,
I would say, in the $30 to $40 range.
I hope that it's amazing,
because I'm gonna drive to Trader Joe's and stock up.
It's very simple-fruited.
More red fruit.
There's some kind of, like, loamy earth elements to it.
Doesn't really have that quintessential Napa Valley Cab.
Especially Rutherford doesn't have
that distinctive characteristic
that I always associate with Hawaiians.
It's a little underwhelming.
Even for a Cab, it's, like, very dumbed down.
There's not a lot of structure there.
There's not a lot of tannins.
And the body is very bid.
I'm gonna say that this is a no-go.
I've wanted to like this so much
because it is a rarity
to find a Rutherford AVA Cab for that price.
But now we know why.
I am so excited.
This is what put Trader Joe's on the map.
Charles Shaw.
It doesn't have it in the name,
but everybody knows this.
This is synonymous.
Charles Shaw is the legendary two-buck chuck.
Legendary, legendary in the wine world.
And then inflation hit.
Go away, inflation.
We want our two-buck chuck back.
This actually came in at $3.49.
You can't call it two-buck chuck anymore.
What are you calling it?
Charles Shaw?
That's not sexy.
Now what that wine is gonna deliver for $3.49,
it's gonna get you drunk.
There's like a little bit of, like, candied cherry.
Almost like a Robitussin.
I think they might need a couple of more
spoonful of sugars to make this medicine go down.
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
But honestly, for $3.49, I don't know what you expect.
It's drinkable.
I feel like it's gonna give you a headache.
I feel like you're gonna have regrets.
You know what?
This might be the perfect wine for sangria.
I think it actually would be really good sangria wine.
For $3.49, would I drink it on its own?
No.
For me, this is a thumbs down.
But for, like, America,
this could be a symbolic wine for America.
Thumbs up, America.
So I am kind of left reeling
through this experience of tasting Trader Joe's wine.
There were some wins, definitely.
There were some, like, some surprises.
There were also some heart-wrenching disappointment.
I think overall, there's some value to be had
at Trader Joe's, especially for the price point.
You know, get curious.
My favorite for the price point
would have to be this little guy.
I think it was $5.99, Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah.
It drinks like something that's, like, maybe $20.
And then as far as on the white side,
that New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for $5.99 as well.
Pillar juice.
Hope you guys learned something like I did.
Next time you guys are in Trader Joe's,
give the wines a try.
I think it's well worth it,
especially for the price point.
We'll catch you on the next video.
