You always say you'll do better and you never do.
You never listen to me.
I do listen.
So dating in Vietnam, is it getting easier, harder or is it the same?
And I think I have a pretty good insight and take on this
being in a relationship with a Vietnamese woman for a while now.
So I would say it is getting harder to date in Vietnam.
I know a lot of people will say Vietnam is so easy to date.
You can come here from your western country and pick anybody you want
and you'll be very successful.
I'm here to tell you that it's not that easy.
It takes time.
It takes effort.
You can't expect to just land here in Vietnam, pick anyone you want, fall in love.
And that's the end of it because
it's getting much harder than where it was in the past.
And you have to realize that Vietnam isn't really a poor country anymore.
You might say that back in the 1960s, 70s when it was really reeling from the effects
of the Vietnam War or here they call it the American War
or the Second Indochina War.
And people back then, they were very desperate.
And back then, marriage and being in a relationship was really a necessity for survival.
But now that the country is developing, the women here have more options.
They don't have to marry or be in a relationship just to survive.
People back in those days, they had large families.
You know, even families of like six or more children are not unheard of.
But here in 2026, especially in large cities like where I am right now, Ho Chi Minh City,
the average age of first marriage I was reading is above 30 now.
So it's not as clear cut and dry as it was before where
you will fall in love very quickly and get married because the women here,
they have more options for them.
They have more options to meet people.
They're more educated and they have greater economic mobility.
And that really goes for much of the world too as the world develops and progresses.
I find that around the world, people have reported the same things.
It's hard to meet a woman who's really to settle down for someone who's
has less resources and has less ability than them because in general,
women like to marry up for the status and the economic value.
They rarely tend to marry down or be in a relationship with someone who's less
capable than they are.
And that's really a threat for the modern world because if people don't marry,
they don't have children, then the world never really improves.
How can we sustain the human race if women aren't really settling for
people who they seem lower than they are or who will develop a meaningful life with them?
So that's one part of the equation how Vietnam is developing now and developing really fast.
I think it is the fastest developing country in Southeast Asia.
Now, that's not to say that it's impossible to find someone here.
I mean, I did, but it just takes time and effort.
You really have to get to know the people.
Don't just jump straight in into a relationship here or expect to attract someone that
you want really much because that's not really how it works here.
You really have to take your time to get to know them as a person.
You need to really vet them and make sure they love you for who you are.
I've heard of stories of women who would get into relationships with people,
and then after a few months, they get married, and then all of a sudden,
they take everything the guy has or half of what the guy has.
So you really have to do your due diligence here.
Like with any marriage, really, you really have to make sure the woman really
loves you for who you are and not because of your status or because of your money.
Because it's actually very risky to enter into a marriage
and you don't want to end up marrying the wrong person.
Now, in terms of Vietnamese women in general, I find that they are very family-oriented.
If you're someone who values a woman to be very independent and not really worry too much about
their family, then I think it's going to be very difficult for you.
Because here in Vietnam, they place a large value on their family and the family structure.
To them, family is very important to them.
And if you just ignore their family and don't care about their mother or father or siblings,
what they think of you, then you're going to be in a world of hurt.
And it's really important to really get to know their family because
I've even heard of stories of people being in relationships with Vietnamese women for like
many years, three years, and then all of a sudden, the family says,
you know what, daughter? I'd much rather you prefer to date a Vietnamese guy rather than
this foreigner or this westerner. I think it's better for you. And sadly enough,
the relationship ends. So you really have to know the family, make sure that
the woman is really, really into you and doesn't want to do that because family is very important.
The woman will listen to their parents and you need to make sure you respect them.
Every year during the Tet holiday, the Vietnamese New Year, it's their most important holiday,
many people will go back to their family's hometown and celebrate with them. That's a
very important holiday and if you don't respect it or ignore what their family thinks of you, then
you're going to be in a rude awakening. So Vietnamese women really value family.
Another thing that Vietnamese women value are your looks too. Let's just face it,
many women are into a guy's looks. You have to really do your part, stay fit, don't expect to
just come here dressing sloppy and having like, I don't know, a big, big belly and expect to attract
the woman you want because you really have to put work into yourself and make sure you're the
best version of yourself that you can be to attract the person that you want. So they may
not say it, but Vietnamese women really value looks. And sometimes the looks, they can't be
changed, I agree. I think me being Asian or having an ethnic Asian background really helped
me in this regard in Vietnam. I know that in most cultures, people like to stick with their own type
or their own kind and even though I'm not Vietnamese, I still am a Chinese American.
So I think that's a plus for me. But I've known people who are white, black, Hispanic,
they've had success with Vietnamese women as well. But you do have to be attractive. You do have to
be the best version of yourself that you can be and you have to be sincere. You can't lie to people.
You can't pretend to be someone you're not. And the woman will really see you for who you are.
They're not dumb. So those are the tips and tricks that I have for dating in Vietnam and
why I think Vietnam is getting harder to date and meet someone. Just if you decide to do it,
you really take the time to get to know the person. I know that it's not as easy as it used to be
because Vietnam is really developing at a quick rate. It might be easier to date in the provinces
of Vietnam in the countryside where they don't have as many opportunities as they do here
in the big city. And that really goes for many countries throughout the world. I've heard that
people find much more success in the countryside where there aren't many economic opportunities
compared to the city. But I hope you enjoy this video. Vietnam's getting harder to date but it's
not impossible and I still find it much easier than back in the United States. Hope you enjoyed
it. Hit that like button. Subscribe. I'll talk to you next time. Bye.
