Gold for us was not only a precious metal but a symbol of perfection and divinity or alchemy.
My father and Mr. Manuel Cuanco decided to work together in this quest to create the
Philippine Gold and Salsi Pearl. It's actually a very magical process. It starts with love,
meaning to be able to breed the oysters to nurture them in order for them to have the
best chance to produce the most beautiful pearls. It also finishes with love and passion of the
goldsmith or the designer, putting this pearl on a pedestal. This notion of care, of nurturing,
which is really intrinsic with pearl farming, really helps us to help work together with
nature to create this Gold and Salsi Pearl. And maybe if we were in a different country,
it might be very difficult or a very different story.
The true essence of the Filipino is also inside this pearl. When it comes to designing pearl
jewelry or working around the pearl, the pearl itself has a lot of volume. So in terms of a
designer, you really have to think about how to recreate the space around the pearl. In jewel
myth, the colors blue and gold represents that symbiotic relationship between nature being the
blue and gold being the metal. As humans, we should be working together with nature to create
items of beauty. What we're really trying to create is an art piece or an artwork of timeless
beauty. That's really what fine jewelry is. It's when it comes to life.
