Thanks to Coach Becht for the interview and to the Orlando Storm plus the UFL for giving the Alan Alford Sports Talk Show such an amazing opportunity!
On behalf of the Alan Alford Sports Talk Show, I tremendously appreciate you all!
Speaking of coaches, and you talk great about Jack Plummer,
can you talk about the quarterback coach, Jordan Kitna,
and your decision to go with him,
and what makes him so elite?
Yeah, so, you know, Jordan's dad is John Kitna.
Me and John were together in the AAF.
I mean, me and John were basically like,
hey, when you get a job, I'm hiring you.
When I get a job, I'm hiring you.
Well, I've been getting the jobs,
and I've been trying to hire him,
and John's like, ah, you know, I can't do it now.
You know, I was like, all right,
so whatever, whatever that is.
So now his son, you know, he's like, listen,
but you need to hire my son.
I was like, he told me this last year.
I was like, man, I don't know, you know, he's young,
and, you know, I'm just not, he's like,
I'm telling you, he's like, he's a star, this and that.
I'm like, all right, well, you know, we'll see.
So this year came up, and it was last minute,
and I was like, you know what, man?
Like, I feel real comfortable in my skin being a head coach,
and I'm ready to bring on some young talent,
and Colin and him are two guys,
and Jordan's younger than Colin,
but Jordan is an absolute rock star.
Like, I'm just telling you right now,
if he gets an opportunity to interview
with an NFL team, a college team,
if you don't hire him, I'm telling you, he is super smart.
He gets it, you know, he understands protections,
formations, you know, the guys love him.
I mean, he's in a room with two NFL quarterbacks,
and man, he just works them, and they love him.
So, man, I'm so lucky to have gotten him,
and I should have listened to John maybe sooner,
but we had, you know, we've had great quarterback coaches,
obviously, in the past,
but it was more of a need thing this year,
and I'm glad I made that choice.
You know, I almost went off the cuff
and just got a coordinator new,
and I was like, you know what, we'll just roll with it,
but, you know, I was like, I want to stay around these guys,
him and Colin, we're kind of, you know,
a couple months into learning the system,
and I was like, let's just keep at what we're doing,
and they can sprinkle their touches in,
and they've been incredible.
Like, just get in front of a,
and speaking in front of a team,
they're good, man, they're really good.
I hope I can keep them around a little bit,
or, you know, we'll see what happens,
but, you know, I don't know.
Like, people are only going to know about them
unless they actually speak to them,
call them, reach out, or listen to this,
you know, this video, so,
but they have been fantastic, man.
Jordan's a stud, and it's been an honor to have him.
Man, he's been great.
Always a pleasure, Coach Beck, really appreciate you.
This is Allen from the Allen Alpha Sports Talk Show.
Being that this game did go to sudden death,
is there going to be more of an emphasis this week
to maybe practice more from the eight-yard line
into the end zone, just so that you're at sharp,
just in case it happens again?
Yeah, Allen, we're always doing that.
We're never not prepared for situational football,
so every day, every,
so to quote-unquote Wednesday practice,
which is today, the first of three in your week,
we have a competitive period where it's good against good,
and we work inside the 10,
so we're going from the 10,
excuse me, the two, the five, and the eight.
Allen, we've run tons of those plays,
so, you know, at the end of the day,
our defense balled out.
They looked really good.
Our offense, we got two holds.
Okay, we got stopped
because we didn't come off to the second level
to block a run-through backer, okay,
or it's a walk-in touchdown,
and then, hell, we had to make a tight throw
in the back of the end zone,
and it's just a tick off,
and Hamler just can't get back to pull it in,
so we loved those plays.
We'd run them again and just change up the formation,
and they'd work,
so I don't know if it was more of a lack of preparation
versus just an execution thing.
