David’s Been Here is traveling through South Africa in search of the top destinations and most memorable experiences. In this travel clip, David brings us to the Kwena Lodge inside the Gondwana Game Reserve. Only 4 hours from Cape Town and a half hour from Mossel Bay, this conveniently located 11,000-hectare reserve is a fantastic place to catch some of the region’s most iconic animals. Kwena Lodge can accommodate all sorts of travelers with their 13 huts (suitable for two) and 13 villas (four to eight people), so no matter what size of group visiting, there’s bound to be room for all. For those looking to go on safari, Kwena offers game drives (where everything from the Big 5 to Endangered Black Rhinos & Cape Mountain Zebras can be spotted) as well as game walks and junior ranger programs (perfect for children.) With a moderate climate for most of the year, beaches, shark cage diving and other big attractions just nearby, Kwena Lodge/Gondwana Game Reserve is an unforgettable experience and convenient stop off for anyone traveling through South Africa.

Welcome to Gondwana Game Reserve, an 11,000 hectare reserve about four hours east of Cape
Town and about half an hour west of Muscle Bay.
There's two different types of lodges here.
The Quena Huts, which is where we are right now, there's 13 of them and this is mainly
for couples.
They also have 13 villas that have two, three, and four bedrooms and that's best for families.
A few of the different animals you can see here are the Big Five, the Endangered Black
Rhino, and the Endangered Cape Mountain Zebra.
Now here's some more information about the hotel from the manager.
Hi, my name is Michelle.
I'm the manager at Gondwana Game Reserve.
It is 27,000 acres, which is 11,000 hectares, and it is a famous reserve in the Western
Cape.
We are about five to seven kilometers out of Muscle Bay and we're about a four-hour
drive from Cape Town, so it's nice and easy accessible.
We also have the Big Five.
Everyone says Big Five, but I suppose with a leopard, you never quite know where the
leopards are because they're quite elusive and they jump from farm to farm.
Basically have two different types of accommodation.
We've got the huts, which are for two people, and there are 13 huts.
We've also got the villas, which are more basically houses, and they are luxury villas
which have either two bedrooms, three bedrooms, or four bedrooms.
They can sleep either four people or up to eight people at a time.
It's quite nice for families, the villas, because then you can do self-catering as well
if you'd like to, and over Christmas time we have quite a lot of people coming with
families.
The weather's quite moderate here.
We do have a couple of weeks in the month, in the year, that are a bit chilly, but generally
it's quite a nice moderate climate, and in summer it doesn't get too hot.
It gets between 27 and 32.
The convenience of our lodge being just four hours from Cape Town, it also offers, we have
beaches really close by, we have shark cave diving which is nearby as well, which is great.
What we do here is we do game walks as well, and we also do a junior ranger program, which
is quite nice for families who come with young children.
They get taken out, they can go fishing, they can do nature world walks, learn about birds,
make walking sticks, learn about the flowers and the fauna here as well.
They get given little backpacks, and they get given a certificate when they leave, which
is quite a nice family experience.
