join us I'm going to check that here we are and oh yes oh yes I can see you I'm
also checking if the I can get into the into into them oh here we go into the

here I am answering to your question especially if you do this is especially
beautiful awesome if you do it the days before Saturday because this gives him
the possibility to actually have a nice little box down here just like this one
with your name and your question so that you're public to the world so if you if
you're curious of any topic if you want to know anything about English just ask
me your questions you can ask them here or you can ask me in the chat box which
I'm actually currently seeing right here so I can see you straight away as soon
as you ask me the questions meanwhile let's begin right so let's begin today
with our first question which is from lolly here we go so um your question is
I don't know the difference between clothes phrase and sentence please could
you explain me that please could you explain that to me
thank you right so you have an extra me that just went in the way and you want
to take it off all right so or either you can say can could you explain me
or even without me actually could you explain please when you could just
playing that please or just could you explain that to me please all right so
this is the way you you build the phrase in English but it is completely normal
because probably you are used to translating your head right and this is
why you built the phrase from French to English now we're going to also I'm
going to help you in the next sessions on telling you or giving you many ways
you can do to stop translating in your head I know how this is a problem for
many people so I'm going to really help you because I'm sure that this is this
will be a lot to you so now back to our question and let's see the difference
between clothes phrase and sentence when you are using those we're talking about
when you're using this those we're talking about grammar okay so this is
like pure grammar thing this means that you can survive without knowing these
three words okay so Lolly don't worry and anybody else don't you guys
worry if you don't know these words because you can survive even without
knowing them anyway as usual to explain my to explain my points I'm gonna use
this beautiful zipper board and of course if you like my if you like what
you're seeing and if you want to have more always remember to Like and
subscribe to this channel because we are here live every single Saturday yes to
help you become more fluent become more to improve your English to become an
English speaker and so if this is your goal this is the place so now we want to
know the what's what are these three words clause phrase and sentence now
usually when we usually referring to a group of words together we usually use
the word phrase this is like a very generic term that we we all use right
whether you know it grammatically or just just by talking okay so for example
this is a phrase the one down here is a phrase and what we say is a phrase but
this is just to convey the meaning but when it comes to grammar when it comes
to the to the difference between these three words then there are some pretty
important differences so a phrase is basically a few words together a phrase
is a few words together at least two at least two words together and you can
have a phrase made of nouns or a phrase made of actions what do I mean by that
well basically a phrase is a word with its own attribute with an attribute that
helps in understanding what what you're talking about so probably I'm pretty
sure you guys are familiar with the word noun and also with the word actions
most of you guys know actions as verbs but they just they're the same thing
all right so when it comes to nouns we can talk for example of this paper how
about that so let's talk about this paper all right paper is a noun right so
you can have a simple phrase if you say the paper all right this is kind of a
simple phrase as if you remember I said that you would need to add an attribute
right so for example let me put it down here we can have a list of attributes
what are attributes usually attributes are adjectives but they can be many
other words attributes are any word that answers to how as in how is the paper
right so of course we can say white right so we can say the white paper the
white paper or we can say this paper can be also with many things on top or maybe
small all right this can be small right small so a noun phrase can be for
example the white small paper the small paper right the small white paper right
or this paper can be maybe can be smooth right or it can be rough smooth is when
it's when it's an oily substance and rough is when it's hard to actually get
your pass your finger across so this paper can be smooth or it can be rough
right so in this case this paper is smooth so we can say the smooth small
white paper all right and this is a phrase now when it comes to actions we
just let's do we can say for example writing right when it comes to when it
comes to action phrases then you can you just need to describe how is the writing
all right so it can be for example writing as an action all right so for
example writing beautifully right how do you do that you just take an attribute
beautiful and you add a little and why at the end of it and this makes it
something that just goes after what the attribute is for okay so you can say
beautiful writing or writing beautifully all right and if you say beautiful
writing we are talking about a noun phrase because we using writing as the
writing so the way you write okay but if you are saying writing beautifully then
writing is an action for example in the phrase I in the close I am writing
beautifully all right I'm not I'm just just an example so let me see if up
until here everything is fine and or there's anything there are any questions
about it okay so no question I guess that everyone is just here with me
listening and probably you guys are maybe interested in understanding what's
a close right well where a close is basically a phrase with a subject right
so in another words in other words not another in other words we can say that a
close is something that begins with a second of a noun then an action and then
and this is the most important part with an open question all right here we
are getting pretty deep all right so just follow me along because this is
gonna be a very interesting thing this is gonna really help you speak more
clearly and put your phrases together more clearly I call it NAO for short and
it stands for now action open question right this is this is what a close is
right what is it a noun a noun can be the paper but it can also be me you it
can be it can be Lolly it can be Irina oh by the way hello Irina welcome with us
sorry I haven't seen you before so it can be any other person that is
watching this video live or maybe it can be you that are watching it as a replay
it can be all of them all of us right and this is the noun part so in this
case is the paper right a is actions right so you have the paper action can
be is right the open question the open question is any question that comes to
your mind that relates to the noun and actions you're using I know you're
probably right now are wondering what I mean by that well an open question is
actually what right so the the paper is what or how right and how we go
attributes so the paper is how where the paper is where or when not very
useful in this occasion but you know it's always an open question the paper
is when okay so let's take well for example and we can say the paper is on
my desk okay and this is a clause a clause is nao nao all right nao is noun
action open question here we go here we go I know it may not be easy it really
depends on how much you are how long actually you've been studying English
already but this is how you build a simple clause and in everyday speak this
is how you how you build a simple phrase okay phrase we said that it's the
general word that we all use every day to refer to any words that we put any
group of words together now a sentence well this is the easiest to understand
guys because a sentence is simply one clause close to another clause right so
for example the paper is on my desk because I need it I know I have to write
this down okay so let me just take another color I wanted black yes black
so let's say the let's let's put some attributes for example let's say the
white the white paper is on my desk because I need it right now can you tell
me which one is the clause which one are actually which ones are the clause in
this phrase as I said phrase is a general term okay but can you tell me
that let me see if you can write it down in the comments down here and meanwhile
as you're writing as you are thinking which are the the clauses that form this
sentence I'm going to answer so let's see if you got it the white paper is on
my desk is the first clause I need it is the second clause and together they form
a sentence now there were because connects the two phrases where where
basically this is the main phrase and this is the explanation but this phase
and for this reason you're going to connect them with the word because this
is very very technical stuff guys as I said in the beginning you don't need to
understand these three words to be able to speak fluent English all right this
is something that you want to learn if you are really interested in this
language if you want to go deep into this language that yes then yes it's
definitely something I recommend you to learn because we're basically especially
if you want to write if you want to become a writer or if you just like
writing and you want to be able to write in good English well this is the base
like to understand what are these and how to use them but the words themselves
ok the words themselves phrase, clause and sentence are not important their use is
important to understand this is important but if you mix these that's
not important all right so this is for you Loli and for Irina and for
whoever else is there by the way I see maybe two I see two questions let me see
so the first is the white paper is on my desk and the second one is I need it
yes Irina well done yes and Loli says it's because a linking word yes that's
right this word because links the two the two I'd say phrases because when
you generally speak about the a group of words together you say the word phrase
but since we are here it's because the two clauses need to have something that
connects it that connects them together right all right so I hope I explained
this to you and and now it's as clear as possible let me know if it's not because
I'm right here to help you out right meanwhile meanwhile hello vibe hub but
no hold on vibe hub right is this how you say this name vibe hub sorry for my
pronunciation but welcome welcome with us and and here we are to go with the
second question which is from Irina welcome Irina I already told you so but
you're welcome double so you're asking around again awake why the a in front
of these words this is a very intelligent question this means you have
been wondering why it looks like these words they cannot have two words in one
why are they composite why they are made of two words and if I guess that
this is the reasoning behind your question because actually if you take
the word around and you take the I you take the a off the word you have the
word round and that's a word the same goes with again right and even again you
take the a off and you have game and then you have awake you take a off and
you have awake so what is this why is it is it for is it this for any word that
begins with an a well I'm here to help you understand so first of all let's go
online because you know that when it comes to words the best place is
actually going online because right here for example we can take the word around
and I'm gonna use the images as usual and then I'm gonna duplicate it and
because I don't remember I'm gonna just go back here we said around again in a
way okay so so this is gonna be again again and this is gonna be awake okay
so let's begin with the first one we have around now if you take around and
you just take the a away you have a round and this is a round shape as you
can see it's very easy to understand the meaning of the word round just by
looking at these pictures round is an attribute and it's used to describe
round shapes just like this one or any other round shape right as you can see
here three circles arrows sorry three circle arrows in a round rotating
circular motion so the motion in this case is round because round is an
attribute right and by the way round rotating circular motion this is a
phrase close no sorry this is a now I mix the terms this is a noun phrase
anyway this is beyond the point probably I'm confusing you so forget it so when
you put the word a when you put the letter a right before it this a goes
this a is a multiplier a most the liar it means that with this a is just like
to say higher it gives more is up and if you say around in fact you're talking
about something that does it's not only round but it it moves around because you
take the image of a round and you multiply it and this is a round right
and the a right before it is just for this reason now again right if you take
the a away you have gain and besides being an awesome cleaning product well
let me put it into into more words well we can say for example to gain and to
gain is an action and to gain is the action of acquiring more right acquiring
more so you may gain weight or may you may lose weight for example you can also
gain muscles you can gain strength you can gain weight just like we said before
or you can gain let me see if there are any other examples here to gain anyway
to increase to become more so you can also gain money for example during your
job what you're doing is gaining money now I don't see any image of that here
but trust me guys so so this is to gain all right and you already are you
already probably familiar with the word again the word again means one more time
and why is it that we are using gain because we have a gain and then we have
another game so you gain twice and this is why again is exactly this one up
thing you want to say one up one up is when you want become better when you do
something to one up the situation to become better to one up to one up is to
increase right to increase of one when you say again this is what you're saying
one up one more time right and as you can see the the gesture I'm using is
exactly the same around sorry again around again right because we are
doubling we are doubling what the word is this case is round in this case is
game and in this case is wake now I'm sure I'm sure you guys are pretty
familiar with the phrase for example I wake up at 7 right so in fact if you
take the a away and you replace it with two we have to wake and of course this
is to wake right rise and shine it's morning again right so this is to wake
now if a person is awake it's because is in that state of mind that he's present
with us so this person is awake right and once again you take the same image
of wake and you double up the meaning you make it more you you make a higher
meaning and this is why it's used for a lot of words really a lot of words let
me see if there's anything in the comments about it so let me see let me
see you guys are commenting on this topic
great explanation thank you the first no no all right all good ah you were
telling me no nothing okay okay so back to us and okay you guys don't know how
many windows I have open at the moment so if you see me gesticulating in a very
confused way it's because I have I don't know maybe 10 windows open right now and
for this reason sometimes I'm a little bit like that anyway there are a lot of
other words just like awake again around in fact I made a little research and I
found this beautiful list that I'm not saying that every word is like that but
it contains many words we can talk about for example the word avoid I don't know
if you guys know this one but the word avoid is one of these words this means
that if we put it here white white okay so and you can see the meaning but you
can also learn another word the word white so let's take the a away and this
is the white I don't know you if you guys are familiar but this is a black
Oh a black hole right a black hole is that part of space completely empty when
there's nothing and because there's nothing there's the void this is the
void this is the nothing right so when you are void something for example if
you avoid maybe avoid studying all right if you avoid studying means that
you don't go there you create an empty space between you and the word studying
right you can also maybe avoid a person you don't particularly like well once
again this is you this is the person you don't particularly like and you create a
void so that you don't encounter that person you don't you don't cross street
with that person and this is to avoid right in fact let's look at these images
here this is exactly what we were talking about right now so you you want
to avoid this place so you go around it okay because you don't want to go here
right so you create a void and you just circumvent you go around it okay so to
create a void and you go around the void so I think you guys are understanding
this image and let me go with another one let's see let's see only apply alien
yeah a line this is an interesting one a line I don't know if you guys know this
word but a line comes from line but not like that but like this and I guess you
don't know you guys know probably what is a line right so this is a line if you
align something but not like this but like this all right if you align
something it means you put it in line so once again you double up on the meaning
of the word line this is very common in many languages in fact if you guys come
from a Latin based language like French like Italian like Spanish all of these
languages have this have this a prefix because it comes from Latin so let me
see if there are any comments about it no comments but I see that Irina says
that it's clarifying awesome I'm very happy for that and Wow guys there's the
list of words that do that act like that is infinite there are a lot take
out the word and this is the last one for today address this is a word I'm
sure you guys know it right address of course where is the dress what is the
address address is the place where you live for example or the place where to
find something right now that you are starting to understand it you're also
seeing that it comes from the word dress this word is nothing but the word dress
and you're like why how actually how in the world what has the word dress to do
with a dress well my friends dress of course is this one right is a piece of
clothing but at the same time it can also be an action right to dress and to
dress is to beautify something to make it more beautiful in fact you cannot not
only can you dress people but you can also dress a cake right you can dress a
well this is a very pretty dress pretty cake but that's not what I meant anyway
or you can dress a salad right you may guys know the word salad dressing the
salad salad dressing is a dressing usually liquid dressing that dresses
the salad right makes it more tasty right or in the case of cake if you
dress a cake make it more beautiful if you if you dress the person you make it
more elegant or maybe not it depends on what you put on the person clearly right
so this is to dress when you go with a dress this is the the place that you
call home is the place that you decide to you decide to be dressed with and
this is a very strange concept I know that but I think it makes you like go
deeper into this word to really understand the meaning your address is
the place you choose to to be dressed with you choose to to to live in that
place that's your address right and so well I mean at least this is beautiful
to me so I hope you liked it now let's go with the next word right and this is
from Audrey hello Audrey welcome with us if you are watching us live or you
may be watching us on the replay you're asking how I use use like I used to take
the bus what a beautiful question this is a great question because I actually
see many students of mine getting this a little mixed up like I see that the word
use because it's so used can cause some confusions right so I'm sure that your
question is also the question of many other people and this is why we are here
to talk about now but this one I need some paper right so I'm gonna turn this
around around right I'm gonna turn this around right and let's begin with the
word use now we can say for example to use right to use is like the ability of
putting something making something available for for something so to
utilize something right so for example you can use a pen right I use pen right
this is easy okay this is very easy but at the same time we also have the past
right so we can say I used a pen I used a pen when yesterday yesterday I used a
pen today I'm using a brush pen right because I want it so this is how you use
use in the in the normal in the normal way but then you can also say that you
are used in other words to be used right now the image is the same utilize but
it's used it's used in in a passive role if you are used you are the one
utilized all right so you are the one that have some kind of that has some
kind of experience so to be used equals to to have experience experience with
something right so for example I am used to speak English it means that I have
experience with speaking English right let me put it as a as an example I'm
used to speak English this is also this also means that you're talking about
your habits right habits so habits my habit is to make breakfast when I wake
up so I can say I'm used to have breakfast when I wake up right so here
you're talking about your habits your current habits and you use this form
like this I am used or generally speaking to be used let me see if so far
so good yeah I think so far so good yes awesome so let's go on let's go on with
it so I'm used to right now the same thing can also be used in the in the
past right so you can say for example I was used right so let's say let's keep
the same phrase okay so I was used to speak English well now what's the
difference well this is now we are talking about a
habit that happened in the past so the topic is still habits okay but this is
in the past and this is in the present all right but the keyword here is the
word habit all right these are habits if you use to be before use you are talking
about habits all right a habit is something you do habitually without even
thinking for example language is something that goes out of habit okay so
this is why you can be used to speak English if you practice it all right if
you practice often guys if you want to be fluent in English you want you have
to practice it okay that's how you become fluent because you create a habit
and this is a habit so you can say I'm used to speak English right and because
you have a job that requires you to speak English then you'll become used to
speak English but then if it's if maybe you don't speak English anymore for a
period of time then if you recall the experience you can say I was used to
speak English and now I I'm not so confident anymore and this is once again
just because of practice alright so I'm used to I was used to but now and this
is how and not but now this is how you get into the confusing part because you
can say because you can use to you can use the past of it without to be yes you
can absolutely you can say I used right and when you say I used you're not
talking about the habit anymore but in here I'm going to write a timeline I'm
going to draw a timeline yeah you're talking about something that you did in
the past in fact this is the present all right so this is the present and here
this is something you did in the past now for example I used to I used to live
in Australia and it's true this is me I used to live in Australia all right this
means that in the past I've been living in Australia I was living in Australia
all right now what happens why why didn't I say I lived in Australia I
because if I said I lived in Australia I'm just talking about a single point in
time but when I'm using I used to we are talking about something that happened a
lot in the time in the past sorry so this is how you use I used to right for
example I can also say I used to have a car and this is also true like right now
I don't I don't know my car it's just the way it is but in the past I used to
have a car why haven't I said simply I had a car because yes I had a car right
in a point in time but when I say that I that I have a car I mean using it you
know I mean driving going around going in and out and this is what you do with
a car for that reason if I only said I had a car it would have been a pretty
useless information but if I say I used to have a car you guys you guys can see
me with your eyes using the car and this is why you say I used to have a car
right I can also tell you for example that maybe a few years ago I used to
live in Italy right so once again I can tell you I lived in Italy this is a
simple information but if I tell you I used to live in Italy I'm giving you
like a sense of time I'm giving you the sense of time that has passed and this
is why I'm using that now this phrase here I used to take the bus this means
that the action of taking the bus was something continuous in time not a one
off now a question you guys may have since I mentioned the word continuous
is why didn't I say I was for example in this phrase here I used to take the bus
hi I was taking the bus but this is because when you use the word used to
you're talking about again a kind of a habit when you say I was taking the bus
you're talking about an action that continues together in time so let me
actually let me just write on top of it because I think it's clearer this way so
this is I used to live in Australia or I used to take the bus okay but and it's
because it happened frequently in the past but if it was like a long streak of
event like the same event when Denny's I was living I was living in Australia
right it really depends on what you want to communicate with it because I can
tell you I'm for example in in 2014 I was living in Australia right that's it
simple as that in 2014 I was living in Australia and I gave you a date and I
told you that during that period of time I was in Australia but if I tell you in
2014 I used to live in Australia and say I'm telling you that the action of
living there was continued in time it wasn't just one action but it was
repeated many times over right so I think I think that at this point this
should be quite clear let me see in the comments
Irina says and why you use I used to live and I was used to live okay so why
so you are asking me what's the difference I guess between I used to
live and I was used to live all right this is often a point of confusion right
if you talk about if you say I was used to live in Australia you're talking
about a habit you don't you're not talking about an action you're talking
about a habit so I was used to live in Australia this is why I like the Sun
and the waves right this is why I like surfing because I was used to live you
know in Australia where surfing is the normal thing right so I'm in the context
of habits but when I say I used to live in Australia I'm in the context of
action right and actually we can do that action versus habits all right so I guess
that this answers your question Irina let me know let me know if it's clear
now so that well actually I can see here that we are at the end of our time
together I can see it I can feel it in my throat I can feel it in my throat
when when I feel that my throat is burning is because we are at the end of
our time together so I love to spend time with you guys and I actually
