Is This The Best Irish Drink? - Flat White Irish Cocktail
Welcome to booze on the rocks.
My name is David Edwards, and it's great to have you here today.
We're going to make a flat white Irish.
Now this is an interesting little cocktail.
That's not that popular and maybe not so well known outside of Ireland.
However, it's got some unique flavor characteristics.
Now this is my take on it.
And I made a slight variation partially because I didn't want to make vanilla
syrup, so I decided to go with a little bit of Irish mist.
Now this is 35% ABV, and this is sort of a herbal Irish whiskey, much
like Drambuie is a herbal Scotch.
Uh, you need a little bit of coffee.
Look here.
Now I am using some Kahlua.
Now this is going to make this cocktail a little bit sweeter, which is one of
the reasons I chose not to add a vanilla syrup and that's 16% ABV.
You need an Irish cream.
Now I'm using a little bit of Carolins.
This is 17% ABV.
And I'm using some hallmar do, and this is 43% ABV.
This will give us a little bit of smoke.
So we're going to have some interesting flavors.
Now the recipes sometimes call for espresso or strong coffee.
I'm using a hazelnut coffee.
It's just what I have at home that I really like.
And it's going to work well with these flavors.
Now it's a shaken cocktail and we will start with our coffee.
Now we're going to start with a one ounce or 30 mils.
Your second ingredient is going to be your Irish whiskey of choice.
Now, what I'd love you to do is leave a comment down below.
Do I need a different Irish whiskey or Irish cream?
Would you go with a coffee liquor?
That's a little less sweet.
Would you go with the vanilla syrup or would you go with something totally
different, even than the Irish mist.
And you're going to use a full one ounce or 30 mils.
Your next step is your Irish cream.
And for this, you're going to use a three quarters of an
ounce or 22 and a half mils.
Your next step is your coffee liqueur.
Um, this will be a slightly sweeter cocktail because of the ingredients in here.
So it's kind of curious to see how you would adjust it accordingly.
You're going to use the same amount of three quarters of an
ounce or 22 and a half mils.
Now we're going to follow this up with your herbal liqueur, which is not
something I use very often, but it's great.
Um, but you don't need a lot of this because we don't want it to
overpower all the other flavors.
We're going to use a third of an ounce, which is 10 mils.
Your next step is to, of course, shake this with ice.
We are going to fill the glass most of the way with ice.
So just, uh, well, perfect.
Make sure you get a really good seal because when you flip it, you
get to shake it hard with a smile.
And you're going to shake this for a good 10 to 15 seconds.
Now you also want to make sure that you shake it hard because you
really want it to get a good job.
And I actually kind of got sprayed the very first time shake on the
way back, which is one of the reasons why you never want to shake
towards the other person on the bar.
So you're going to pop that off with the strength of a thousand Irish
liqueurs and grab your favorite glass.
Uh, I'm just going to, uh, use my Hawthorne strainer and
I'm going to find strain it.
Oh, darn it.
That's not supposed to happen.
Um, good part is I didn't get the ice in there, but I didn't make a mess.
Oh, well, whatever.
And here we have a gorgeous looking flat Irish.
That's actually kind of separated slightly and given us a nice
little bit of a foamy head here.
You've got a nice iced latte look that is easily looks wise.
8.5 out of 10.
I think it looks good.
Smell wise, I immediately get a little bit of the Irish cream.
This is very good, very easy to drink and very subtle.
I'm going to be honest.
You don't really taste the whiskey at all.
You get a little bit of coffee, a little bit of the Bailey's and
really not much of the Irish mist.
It's just slightly in there giving us a nice little hint of sweetness.
Super easy to drink.
Like I mean, super easy.
You have a few of these, no problem.
Have four of them and you're going to be sitting down pretty good.
Uh, having said that this easily a 9.6 out of 10.
Now, if you like cocktails like this, take a look after the
recipe card right over here or there.
