The visitors then with Denmark they kicked off against the Serbs winning 3-1 at home
with their talisman Pernilla Harder scoring a 82nd goal for a country in that game
followed by a 1-1 draw against Italy. It wasn't quite 100% and they'll be liable to throw her in
if they find themselves in trouble this evening. Tony Gustafsson though is confident that
the younger players are ready to shoulder the responsibility during this last year.
Here he is, Jakob Mikkelsen, a five-year-old from McClunder in Denmark who started life
as a junior and a youth coach before taking over the reins at school back in.
Had a brief spell as coach for the Tanzania by Tergesen. Good start this from Sweden,
Oh so close to taking the lead inside one minute here in Gothenburg. It's quite a chilly evening
at about 7-8 degrees, light rainfall hasn't deterred the home side who were so close there.
Some of the players already celebrated. To get the one under control was Nelhage
from the United States, an Olympic gold in London as that one's fired in. Powerful header away
across to a corner, keep the pressure on that's a decent ball in as well and they can't get it
clear. Sixes and sevens and Sweden go close again. The home crowd liking what they're seeing here,
lovely little layoff, they could be in again.
Oh bobbling around in the penalty area and not for the first time Sweden.
Conway traffic, another home back, Arsenal right back on the charge and there's the opener.
Well there's a certain logic to that. Sweden hit the fronts through Monika Yusuba, the 22-year-old.
First goal for her country and it came after a long period of Swedish pressure.
Lovely little flick that opened up for a good work there. Jutta Nelhage,
so she came from an offside position and the flag does go up. She's caught the wrong side there.
Out on that far side, quickly filling the box, a firm challenge. 19 years of age Bella Anderson,
a lot of responsibility resting on her shoulders. She's up against one of the best in the
world. Nelhage quickly realising the situation. He writes and it comes from Gale to the back stick
and a decent connection and hooked over the bar. Well that's the best chance thus far for Denmark.
Decent delivery from Gale and a free header. It's a decent ball in and it's back off the post
and that's the second time Sweden have hit the woodwork. This time Black Stenius,
the unfortunate striker. Usually good quality delivery from her which is the case again and
a free header. A little push in the back but I don't think the referee spotted and that's a good
goal. She's done well there. Is this the chance? It certainly is and no prizes for guessing the
scorer. She does it again. Goal number 83 for Pernilla Harden. The 33 year old Bayern Munich
striker who's having a great season has struck for Denmark who dragged themselves level here
in Gothenburg. They're so well there to win that duel and there's the cool finish.
This is over the halfway line. Earlier ball in this time. Run through. Can she keep it in? She
can't. She looks to take on Yusuba. It's the ball in again then and this is now
and here come Denmark. Growing in confidence all the time. There's an effort just off target from
Wengs. It's support from her club mates Holmbeck and that's a good ball in from her again
and that's what I mean about the quality on the final ball from Holmbeck. Great ball in.
No one poaching it. Long range effort blocked by Balasage. Picking up the pieces is Yusuba.
Sends that in. Was curling dangerously. I don't think that was the intention. She was just trying.
It's not a bad ball. Schroeder will get there and knocks it back inside and there's still
a chance here. Off the line. Should be a corner. Great awareness there from the
defender. Looked as though the attack might have been over. Great work here.
Decent ball in and Blastienius not connecting but teammate Holmbeck did and Sweden had to be dealt
with and was by Farge. It's that long range effort. Yusuba looking to play the one-two. Gets it back
from Schroeder. It's not over yet. Now the ball is over the bar. On a weaker foot this time.
Nice header down to Blastienius. Takes a step around. Oh and just wide of the post.
Did everything right. Steena Blastienius. That left-footed effort.
Just curls wide of the uprights. Lovely little touch here to set herself up.
How close was that? What a possession for Denmark. Given away. You see what she was trying.
Schroeder just shaping up to try and curl that one. Reedy finally finds its way to Blastienius.
No real oomph. Schroeder. Blastienius continues her run. Unless you fancy it. She's gonna have a go.
Lovely little flick from Yusuba. Great ball into the back post. Surely great block. Farge,
I think it was, who got there. Sweden once again going close. Andersson chips that one in.
Happily youngster Andersson. Knocked into the back stick. Only half cleared and decent effort.
Certainly got the power, if not the direction. Schroeder. Involved again here or will she? No.
The ball goes in early. Something that Jakob Mikkelsen was quick to point out. Oh and it's
off the post. I thought that was going to creep in. Denmark going so close to snatching it.
10 minutes left in the squads. That's right on top of the keeper. Andersson again right on top
of the keeper. Denmark just happy to knock that long when they could be in here. And they're
through. Denmark with a golden opportunity and they've taken the lead and it's the substitutes.
Janne Thomsen comes up with her 11th goal for Denmark and what an important goal that could
prove to be. Well they've weathered the storm since that goal from Yusuba. Sweden have had
plenty of opportunities to say they hit the woodwork twice. They left themselves
open at the back. Just less than three minutes. Here they are. Rolfo with the head up.
Straight at T scored.
